Hello and Happy Sunday! It's a beautiful spring day here on Still Waters Pond, and I've got some wonderful news to share...you've been waiting to hear this, and I am happy that I can finally show you the brand spanking new baby Sand Hill Crane Colts, "Spring" and "Trumpet". 😍 The first one to be born was named Spring, because he/she was born on the eve of the "Vernal Equinox" (Spring), and the other came a couple of days later, and I had promised to name it after a President because the eggs were first laid in the nest on President's Day, so I decided on the name "Trumpet". One of our blogging friends actually suggested that name, and I thank you, Debbi, from "Debbi's Front Porch" for the suggestion. I think it is a fitting name in honor or our current 47th President, and also because these cranes sound like a loud trumpet when they call! I can't tell which is which at this point, because they are growing so rapidly that you really can't tell them apart. Spring may be a bit bigger than Trumpet because she/he was born a few days earlier.
Regardless of their names or anything else, let's just enjoy the cuteness, shall we?
So without further adieu, here they are:
Speaking of cuteness...here's our adopted kitties, "Blackie Sue" and "Sunshine", soaking up some warm afternoon sunshine. Yes, I changed the name of Blackie to Blackie Sue, because it appears she's a girl, and it also appears that she may be expecting some kittens...time will tell...things could get very interesting around here...
Thankfully they are not at all interested in the new baby Cranes, because I think they are smart enough to know better than to go near those babies with those ever present parents around. You don't want to ever make a Sand Hill Crane parent angry at you for going near their babies!!So, I hope you enjoyed seeing these sweet babies! I'm sure there will be a lot more photos to come in the coming days and weeks as we watch them grow at the speed of lightning!
Meanwhile, what else is going on? Here's the video of our church service/choir from this morning. The choir was singing a wonderful medley of songs, "My Jesus I Love Thee", "I Love You Lord", and "Oh How I Love Jesus". You might enjoy singing along with these beautiful songs. The Pastor's sermon from Genesis 3 is quite good too. If you want to know if I am singing in the choir, yes, I am the one behind the microphone that you can't see very well. LOL. But that's okay...I was singing for the Lord, and that is what matters most.
Let's see, what else? Yesterday we went to the "Deep Creek" Farmer's Market because our son Benton had a booth there selling the wooden planter boxes that he builds. He had a record setting day for sales, and that was a real blessing!! God is so good! These are just a few of the items he makes and sells:
Deuteronomy 31:8 NKJV
8 And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you.
Song by Don Moen ‧ 1993
Lyrics
God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way
Oh, God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way
By a roadway in the wilderness, He'll lead me
Rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and earth will fade but His Word will still remain
And He will do something new today
Oh, God will make a way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way
Yes, he will, he will make a way for you

Oh, Spring and Trumpet are adorable ... and I love their names!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Benton's creations are taking off. (Did you get my e-mail about the chick-nic tables?) Wishing you both a wonderful evening and most blessed new week!
I did see a picture of those chick-nic tables! What a cute idea! Not sure if that would sell here or not, but it sure is cute. You never know what some people will buy! LOL. Hope you are having a happy Monday morning now!
DeleteThe baby cranes are so cute and I think the names are perfect!
ReplyDeleteYou had some good songs at church today. I haven't heard the song God will make a way for some time. It goes well with the message we had at church about God being involved in the details of our lives to complete His plans.
I'm glad Benton had such a good day at the market. His products look very well made!
Thank you, Mari! I'm glad that God is getting that message out to all of us...He is in control and He will make a way when we think there is no other way. We are so blessed to be His children! Have a wonderful day.
DeleteAwesome news that Benton had good sales!! I love seeing the colts and the proud parents!! Great names!! Blackie Sue looks content and so does Sunshine! It makes me happy to see old buildings being renovated!! They deserve respect and a second chance!! Have a blessed week ahead, Pam!! Love to all!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri! I still hope you are wrong about "Blackie Sue" being in the family way, but time will tell. I'm not sure I'm ready to be a kitten grandparent. LOL. But yes, she and Sunshine are quite content here, although they both seem to want to come inside and we are just not ready for that... And yes, I am excited about the old Brush Store being renovated. I wish they could restore it to be a store again, but that probably won't happen. But at least they are saving the building. Hope you get those tomatoes planted soon!!
DeleteHi Pamela, I enjoyed reading your post and the chicks are so cute! I like all the stuff your son makes, especially that plantersshelf or potting shelf. I like the music of Don Moen. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. I wish I could ship you a potting shelf! But it would cost more to ship it than to make it! LOL. Hope you have a lovely week too.
DeleteI love the way the sun is outlining the colts with gold, they are just adorable and so sweet. I would be hanging out watching them all the time... if this keeps up you will have a whole flock of cranes and a yard full of cats... your brood is growing quickly.
ReplyDeleteyour choir sounds so good and like the ones from daddy's churches in my childhood.
There's still a house available next door...on the pond...just saying... and you could attend our little church and sing in the choir too if you want!
DeleteI am now officially in cuteness overload, Pamela! Those Sand Hill babies warm my heart, and I love the names you have given to each of them. Perfect! I always enjoy catching up on all your news and feel so privileged to be a part of your world through blogging. Have a blessed week!
ReplyDeleteYes and amen to God making a way every day.
ReplyDeleteYour choir singing Oh How I Love Jesus brought back a sweet memory for me.
When our younger son was very little before bedtime Mark used to sit on my lap and we would sing several songs. He loved to sing that song and we would have to sing it multiple times each night. When it came to the end of the song that says "Because He first loved me..Mark would add me..me..me and tap his little heart. Thanks for bringing back that tender memory.
Sue
Those babies are adorable.
ReplyDeleteHi Pamela! Those baby cranes are just darling. What a blessing that they have made a home there by your Still Waters Pond. Your son is so talented in woodworking. I can see several things I would have purchased if I lived close and could have gone to that farmer's market. It's always nice to see what you've been up to. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI love those baby cranes! They are so cute!
ReplyDeleteYour son's woodworking is great. If I lived closer, I'd buy one of those boxes.
Hooray for two healthy babies; I love their names! So much joy-I'm so glad to read your blog!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness how cute are those babies. The kitties look very happy! :) I have a new blog post, *I started a new blog https://ginabeanzbloglife.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI hope you will stop by both! I always love your blogs
Pam, I enjoyed watching the video of your choir singing the medley of songs. I'm sure it was a sweet sweet sound to God's ears. And how delightful it must be to have those little baby cranes in your yard and pond. The names are too cute, too. My apologies for probably being confusing in my last comment (which is on the post after this one). I momentarily thought you were in Canada - hence the reference to cranes that flew over our spot in Indiana in January. Nevermind me. Maybe we'll see Spring and Trumpet flying over one day. I wonder, do they grow quickly enough to migrate north the same year?
ReplyDeleteHi Becki! Thank you for your kind words. Re: the baby cranes...these particular cranes do not migrate north each year. These are the families that stay here year round, and this same couple stays here and raises their babies each year and comes back and nests in the same general spot on our pond each year. The "Colts" stay with them until they are about 10 months old, and then they are pretty much forced out on their own and the parents get ready to start a new family. We've lived in this house (Florida!) for almost 6 years, and we've watched these cranes nesting at least 3 of those years. They may have done it earlier and we just weren't paying that much attention. Sometimes their nest is behind the island so we can't see it regularly, like this year. I've had to take extra walks around the pond to watch them on the nest, but now that the babies are here they bring them around to our yard every day to look for food. It's so much fun to watch them grow.
