Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!
What Do You See Outside YOUR Open Window Today?
Remember: "When God closes a door, He always opens a window!" You never know what might be out there waiting for you!

Thursday Thankfulness and Friday Foto Friends
So, I know you are all waiting to hear about our trip to see this movie yesterday:
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
I figured sharing that movie trailer above would be the best way to tell you about the movie! To say it was good would be a great understatement. I went through so many emotions during that movie...laughter, sadness, joy, and tears that I just couldn't hold back...yeah...I loved it. The characters are still with me today in my mind and I wish I could watch it again. I did watch an older version of the story that was filmed in 1983, but it just didn't have the pizazz and raw emotion of this movie. So yes, I would recommend it if it is showing in your area. I did see that you could buy it on Amazon, and it will probably be on TV before long if you want to wait.
One thing that was said in the middle of the movie just totally blew me away...remember when I talked about "break a leg" HERE in my previous post? Well, lo! and behold! That very statement was quoted in the movie, and I was so surprised because I had just been talking about that exact thing that morning! That was so funny when I heard it I almost spit out my popcorn! LOL.
But I am getting ahead of myself...Here's the theater...
And here's the lobby/concession area. Everything is self-serve and you have to check yourself out using a debit or credit card, although I think there was one machine that would take cash.
Here we are, all excited and getting our popcorn and drinks and getting ready to go inside. Thankfully there was a kind person who worked there who saw that we were unfamiliar with the routine, and so she took extra time to show us where everything was. We were most appreciative. I told her that I hadn't been to a movie in a theater since the Titanic sank, and she looked at me as if I was crazy. But it's true. That's the last movie I saw in a Theater, and that was in late 1997! Yeah, that long ago! No wonder I was as excited as a little kid let out of school...
And would you look at this? They had reclining seats with places to hold your drink cups!
That's my popcorn! It was so good!!
And yes, I did recline, those are my feet you see sticking up. And no, it wasn't crowded at all. We went to a matinee' on a Wednesday afternoon, so we almost had the place to ourselves!
Here's hubby and me settling into our seats. I won't tell you that hubby was so comfortable in his recliner that he literally slept through a good portion of the movie. At least he didn't snore. LOL.
And here's Rose and Benton next to us. We were so glad they were with us to navigate us through all these new-fangled things! Yep, I don't get out much, and this was more fun than I've had in a long time!
Afterwards we went to Culver's for supper, and I had the shrimp dinner, and it was SO good!
So I asked myself during and after this movie why I was so touched by it, and why did it mean so much to me? Several things...
1. I loved how the true story of Christmas and Jesus' birth was brought out in this movie. They didn't just gloss over it and make it stay in the background. It was the central core of the movie...the re-telling of the birth of Christ in such a way that a child (and children) who had never heard the story before could grasp it and take it into their own minds and hearts and identify with the main "characters" in Jesus' nativity.
2. I identified with the mother in the movie who ended up directing the Christmas pageant. I've been there and done that several times, and those were some of my happiest (and hardest and most tiring but rewarding) memories of my life. Especially when I was able to direct a pageant that my own children participated in so many years ago...Oh yes! This brought back those kinds of memories that brought tears of joy to my eyes.
3. Seeing how this very dysfunctional family brought out the worst and the best feelings of the high and mighty folks of the church and community, and how in the end the people were brought to their feet in applause, and perhaps figuratively to their knees in repentance for how they had previously treated this family. It made me look at myself and my attitude towards those who may not always meet "my standards" for living, but for whom Jesus came to earth to save for eternal life with Him.
4. To see the redemption of these children as they came face to face with Jesus, the babe in the manger, and realized that He came to earth because He loved them...He was the gift to the whole world, and His birth literally changed their lives.
Yes, this movie touched my heart on a lot of different levels that I am still sorting out today. Was it worth the time and money and effort to go sit and watch this movie? Oh yes! It was truly "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever"!!
So here's some of the beauty we saw on the way home as the sun was setting in the west across the St. John's River...
This is the "skyline" of the city of Palatka, which is the city closest to our little town.
Isaiah 9:6-7 NKJV
6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
This little experience has helped set the tone for the Christmas season for me. Now I can't wait to get started on getting ready for Christmas...but I will still wait until after Thanksgiving to start decorating! I can only handle one thing at a time!
I’ll have to look to see if it’s playing in my area. Sounds like a movie we would enjoy. Your theater is like ours or is it, my theater is like yours? Anyway are your loungers heated? It makes it very hard not to fall asleep! Boy you really haven’t been to the movies in a long time! That’s amazing. We go about 4 times a year if it’s a movie that fits our standards. We always try to go to Christian movies to support them. If people don’t go, they won’t get the backing they need. My husband is adamant about supporting good clean Christian movies! There aren’t that many! ☹️
True, there aren't that many. This one was good and we enjoyed it. My hubby isn't really into movies that much, hence that's why it's been so long since we've been to one. Plus, we have to travel about an hour to get to a theater. And judging by the fact that he slept through most of the movie, I doubt we'll be going to another one anytime soon. LOL. But we still had fun!
I will be blogging about the movie too and the book which I read to my classes for 30 years. Yes, it is a very Jesus book and I was grateful that I was able to read it all those years. I suppose I would get in trouble these days. The book was always well received and the movie was true to the book and done exceptionally well. I got in the car and texted the kids to run to it. I think one of the grandsons is too young, but the others are not. I told them it would be one to buy down the road for yearly watching. IT was a 10 plus.
Oh, I am so happy to hear that you read this book to your classes in school! You are the BEST kind of teacher to have! I am glad you were able to do that in public school without a problem. It's so sad what they are reading in public schools today, anything goes it seems, EXCEPT anything that might be about Jesus! Oh, I do hope your kids will go see it. I think this could become a new Christmas season favorite!
I will check out the movie! Thanks for the great review and I loved seeing your photos at the theater! Your sunset photos are beautiful. On to the weekend! xo
You're right! It was an A-MAZ-ING movie. I think I already told you that our pastor had preview tickets and we went with them and saw it before it opened in the theaters. (We also had reclining seats, isn't that the neatest thing ever?) I really think this was one of the best movies we've ever watched. We laughed and we cried and were annoyed at the "high and mighty" people. So good! I hope everyone sees it this Christmas and I'm glad you felt the same about it as I did. Blessings and hugs, Betsy
Meh...not impressed. Movies are pablum for the masses, they are designed to distract the peasants from the fact that they are being fleeced by banks, corporations and military industrial complex.
Since you are an anonymous commenter, I have no idea who this is. Me thinks you are feeling a bit of "Bah Humbug"! LOL. This movie just might brighten your spirits a bit! But maybe wait until it comes on TV. It might be best to not get mixed up with the masses of peasants out there who are actually enjoying the movie! I hope you have a lovely day anyway, wherever and whoever you are!
I would love to see it and am sure it will show up on Netflix, I will wait for the free version. Bob would not watch it and in 40 years of marriage, I have been to 3 movie theaters. the last one was The Passion, our church bought the entire theater and we could all go for free, that was in 2004. I went once with my son, and once bob went with me because my work place bought the entire 5 screen theater for the afternoon as our annual picnic. that was 2003. families could pick one of five movies and all food was free, hotdogs included. We like different movies, and both of us do not like crowds or theaters, we like our 65 inch screen at home. I hope it shows up on Netflix or Prime soon. I did watch the trailer. God's sunset was the cherry on top of your day out. I would love those reclining seats. IF I were a RICH I would have a 100 inch screen in a room with reclining chairs in my home.
Yes, I am hoping it will become one of the new Christmas classics on TV. I would compare it to the popular "A Christmas Story", except this movie actually tells the real Christmas story, which makes it much more meaningful and has some depth to it. And yes, the reclining seats were great! Almost as nice as being in your own living room with your own TV. Don't think my house would fit a 100 inch screen TV however. We'd have to sit in the next room to be able to keep from straining our necks to see it. LOL.
I can hardly wait to see this! (I may have to break down and buy it to watch on Christmas Eve.) Chuckling at your concessions experience, because the same thing happened to us last year. Fortunately, we also had a friendly clerk come out and demonstrate ... and no-one else was around. UNfortunately, our theater doesn't have those whizz-bang fancy seats and holders. So glad you all enjoyed the day!
This sounds like the "Best Movie Ever," Pamela! I'm so glad you all enjoyed it and thank you for sharing what you took away from the story, too. Anything that turns our hearts and minds toward Jesus is worth our time and attention. Thank you, dear friend!
Pam: At one time, several years ago, our church had a drama team. For two years in a row, we performed "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever", I assisted the director and her husband both years and the last year, I had to stand in for a "Church Lady" who go sick. I knew the lines of the character down pat. Yes, it was a lot of work. However, it was a fun time. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
Wow! Now I am impressed with that!! I was wondering if churches had ever actually performed this for their Christmas program! That is A-MAZ-ING!! I would love to see our church kids do this. I may have to put a bug in the ear of the ones in charge of our children's ministry to consider for next year! Peace and blessings to you and yours too! Happy Thanksgiving!
The EPIC theater you went to looks just like the one we have here and yes, those ticket kiosks are a challenge! We, too, had to have an employee help us navigate the payment for our tickets. I hear ya!
I think I read the book years ago, Linda, and glad you and your family went to the movie and enjoyed it. Hopefully, it will be online maybe for next Christmas. Right now, we are watching quite a few Hallmark movies that are new to Netflix. Some are older, but that's no problem as they are all new to me, since we don't have cable or the Hallmark channel. You all looked happy at the outing and if it does come online, John may be able to see what he missed.
I was going to holler at you if you all came into Ocala and didn't tell us, but then you mentioned St. Johns River, LOL. ANYWAYS, wishing you a beautiful day my friend. I simply haven't had time to look at the house next to you, not that he wants to move--but a new house would be nice. smiles
Thank you for visiting here today. I would love for you to sign my guestbook and let me know you stopped by. I always enjoy reading your comments and words of encouragement! May you be blessed as you go on your way. Please come back and visit again soon.
I have heard only good things about this movie..maybe we will actually go to a theater and see it. Its been years since we were in one too.
