Here it is late Friday evening...and I am just getting around to posting this! Most of you won't see it until Saturday, so we could call it Saturday Foto Friends instead! LOL. I really don't have a lot of great photos this week that I haven't already shown, so this will just be a mish mash of stuff from around the house and Still Waters Pond. Let's see, where shall I begin?
How about with this Red Shouldered Hawk that was sitting up in a tree overlooking the pond this afternoon? He was watching for something to have for supper I bet!
Sorry he is hiding his face behind that little branch...I was kind of at a distance and really couldn't see him that well, so I just started taking pictures, trying not to call too much attention to myself so he would stay put.
I think he knows I'm there anyway...
Right after this he took off flying across the pond and that was that...
Speaking of across the pond...one day this week we were driving around on a road on the other side of the pond, and it used to always be so full of brush and trees, etc., that you couldn't tell there was a pond there. But someone recently bought that lot and cleared away the brush so now you can actually see the pond and walk down to it, and so of course that's what I did! This gives you a different view of the pond from the other side and also the back side of the two islands that are in the pond...
Years ago someone had built a pier over to that island and then beyond it onto the other island that is closer to our house.
It crossed over this canal to that island...
And there is what is left of it...it isn't functional anymore...I would not dare to try to walk on it. I did kayak under it a few times back when I was strong enough to kayak around the pond. Maybe I can find one of those pictures of under that dock...
Here are a few pictures from a couple of years ago when I was able to make that trip around the pond in the kayak...and here I am getting ready to go under that old dock...
We must always remember to stop and "smell the water lilies" along the way...
This is looking up from underneath the dock...I was a lot braver a few years ago than I am today...not sure I'd do that again now, but then again...maybe I might...I do miss going out in the kayak...it was so peaceful out there...
There were the Cat tails along the way...
And here I am...I made it around the pond and lived to tell about it, and brought home a lily to prove it! Again, this was a few years ago...I need to rebuild my strength in my arms before I venture out like that again anytime soon...
Now, back to the present...I was trying to see if you could see our house from the other side of the pond, and thankfully you cannot! At least not from this vantage point. The islands tend to block the view...
And this is the view of that old dock from the shore, the way it looks now: Kind of like the bridge to nowhere! Or, a bridge too far, or something profound like that...
And here is an added bonus! These aerial views of Still Waters Pond were taken from a real estate series of photos via drone! This gives you a pretty good idea of where the islands are:
That is our house to the left above, and pretty much in the center of the photo below, next to the pond:
Our house on right side of photo next to pond:
This one shows our shed, down on the left:
And again, that is our house down on the bottom center. You can see the highway on the other side of the trees to the left, and a business on the far side, top of photo. Because of that highway, our pond is not as quiet and tranquil as one would believe from my photos, but we've learned to just tune out the noise and enjoy the beauty, and listen for the songs of the birds instead...it's a good lesson to learn in order to have peace in the midst of the noise of the world...
Hope you enjoyed this bird's eye view of Still Waters Pond!
Here's the only other picture I took today of our turtles sunning themselves out on the little marsh island:
And we had a lovely sunrise yesterday morning...
I picked what I call "Fairy Flowers" in the yard yesterday...little tiny wildflowers that are popping up everywhere!!
And so I decided the fairies needed to come out and enjoy them as a centerpiece...
The view from both sides...
Last night our "kids" came over and we made spaghetti for supper, and they were "delighted" with this little fairy garden on the table. My kids humor me a lot you might say...
And Lily Grace was getting ready for Valentine's Day...she sent out a few Valentine's Cards to some special friends...
Lily Grace says to send you all a great big hug and Happy Valentine's Day (week ahead!) too.
Today's verse on my little devotional book says:
"The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer's feet,
and He will make me walk on my high hills." Habakkuk 3:19
Notice that says "high HILLS", not "high heels". LOL. I think most of us are past the age of wearing High heels... And I love that this verse reminds us that God is our strength...and He will give us the strength we need to walk on whatever "high hills" may come before us...and even into the deep valleys on the other side of those hills. God is with us...our ever present help in every situation. May we always remember that no matter what obstacles are in our path. And who knows? Maybe I'll get that strength I need to make it around the pond again soon. That is my goal...as God gives me His strength day by day.
Okay folks, that's it for tonight! Have a blessed and beautiful weekend!
I really liked the other views of your pond. You are fortunate to have such a big property plus a pond. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debby. The pond doesn't belong to us, although we are really the only ones who actually enjoy it. I named it "Still Waters Pond", but no one else knows that either, except all of my friends here in blogland! LOL. You won't find that name on any map. I hope you have a lovely weekend too!
DeleteWow, what a great post. I love the photo of you sitting in your kayak, how fun! When I was a young girl I borrowed a rowboat and rowed onto this small lake that was filled with water lilies in bloom and ever since that day I have been head over heels in love with water lilies. When we look at creation we can certainly marvel at our marvelous creator. Keep enjoying life my dear friend and God bless you.
ReplyDeleteConnie :)
Thank you, Connie. Yes, I love the water lilies too, except our little pond is sometimes a bit overwhelmed with too many of them and not enough water to paddle through! Even the geese get a little frustrated trying to swim through them all. But even so, I am thankful they have such beauty and I am not complaining. God made everything beautiful for us to enjoy!! Thank you for your visit today. It is always a pleasure to hear from you! Have a wonderful weekend!
DeleteI always love all your pictures and those aerial photos are awesome. Now I have a better understanding of where the islands are. Love the turtles and also the fairy flowers and your table decoration with fairies and flowers. Hope you have a wonderful weekend and that you will get stronger and stronger and me too.
ReplyDeleteYou get such wonderful shots of the different birds near you. They are so fun to see.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the drone shots. I'd say you have the prime location there. We had a drone shot of our area last summer, but we have so many trees that it's hard to see where we live. Still fun to see though! Here's the post I put up with it if you want to see it:

Oooo, that image of the water lily -- and its reflection -- is exquisite! The 'bridge to nowhere' sure gave me pause. Sometimes, for no particular reason, certain images make me stop what I'm doing to stare and let my mind wander. I can envision that one hanging in an art gallery!
ReplyDeleteThose drone shots are so interesting. I knew you were near a busy road, but not that close! And businesses, too! I can't see any sidewalks, so walking alongside might be a dangerous undertaking?
Your Valentines table is so whimsical. Big hugs to Lily Grace!
I just saw your message via email that you said your comment wasn't showing up. Not sure why it didn't. I've set my comments to go ahead and approve without me having to see them first, but for some reason I still had to approve yours! Crazy! Oh well, at least we found it! Glad you liked the "bridge to nowhere" pic. I find things like that mind jogging too. Could be the beginning of a new book... Take care my friend. And yes, there are sidewalks out along the highway beside the pond on that side. I'm just very thankful for those trees and pray they never cut them down!!! I might have to move if they do!!
DeleteCool aerial views of y'alls home! I wanna do that with ours. For now Google Maps has to suffice. I had no idea you had so many neighbors.
ReplyDeleteRed Shouldered Hawks are nesting all around us. We were out driving the neighborhood yesterday and startled a Cooper's Hawk trying to get a Bluebird! I don't usually interfere with God's creation but this time I saved the Bluebird. "Go get a House Finch or sumthin' fella! We've got plenty of those!", I shouted at him. Like he understood. LOL
Hope your day and weekend are blessed. I'm going to go shopping later. Steve is at a local Gun Show and I feel the Dollar Tree is calling me ... LOL xx
We may have neighbors on some sides, but our best neighbors are back here in the pond. That is where I spend most of my time looking and being "neighborly". LOL. Glad you saved the Bluebird. The hawks can go find something else to eat. I agree! Enjoy your Dollar Tree spree. I did that a couple of days ago. Had to get some Valentines for my sweeties. It was fun. Take care and enjoy your weekend.
DeleteI really loved the aerial views. It put the pond and it's location and size into perspective. It's much bigger than I thought. I like how the homes are spaced apart. It give lots of privacy to the areas. I like your fairy garden and it looks likke Lily Grace does too
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
The aerial views were a great touch, Pamela. It certainly gives a whole new perspective on where you live and the size of Still Waters Pond. Thanks for sharing this point of view as well as all your other wonderful photos. I do remember your post about kayaking around the pond. May God give more strength to you and your arms so you can do it again.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
How FUN to see your sweet pond from the same view your bird friends see it!! Thanks for sharing those photos with us, Pam!! I really like your fairy garden centerpiece on your table! Lily Grace looks ready for Valentine's Day!! Happy weekend!!
ReplyDeleteWow !-- you found ALOT of sprigs of fairy flowers!!--- they are so sweet and dainty! I'm waiting on them here-- none yet. Love all your pictures today, especially the water LILY GRACE ones, LOL. you're so cute in that kayak holding the big bloom! Enjoyed the aerial views--- that's so cool! Beautiful nature God has created for us and so many amazing creatures live in and next to your pond, I love seeing them and I know you do too. Lily Grace is so pretty in her fancy dress, looks like she is headed to a fun party. And I love the fairy garden on the table! Hugs!! Enjoy your weekend! The spaghetti sounds so good--- I've been craving it and we bought all the makings for it last night at the grocery, I'm making a big batch of my homemade sauce with meat in the crockpot maybe tomorrow or a day this week.debbi at debbisfrontporch-- not anonymous LOL

ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear from you! I've been missing you. Thank you for writing!! Lily Grace sends her love to you and Tracie and AmyBelle and Tansi and everyone!!
DeletePam: I am glad to see the area where you live via the drone pictures. I love to see the parts of Still Waters Pond. It is a beautiful place. I love the message of Habakkuk 3:19. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy the photos of your pond. I would never get tired of looking out at that view. I especially liked the arial photos you shared. They surprised me! There's an awful lot of buildings nearby and I've always imagined it being a bit more isolated. The fairy garden on the table is adorable!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post. I love your memories of kayaking around the pond, your fairy flowers and everything in between. And of course all the nature pics. Just lovely. Diana
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh, so happy to see precious Lily Grace! Enjoy this early springtime, Lily Grace! We had snow! Brrrr. I love the photos of the pond, and you were so brave to go in a kayak and especially to go UNDER the pier! I went under a pier also when I lived on Whidbey Island. My kayaking days are over, lol. The drone shot really lets the lay of the land be seen; what a lovely setting. I just hope --- no alligators!!! Love the fairies and their flower bouquets. "Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these."
ReplyDeleteIt is always nice to see Lily Grace and I bet the kids had a few things to say about your fairy display, grin. Wishing you a beautiful Valentines Day.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun photos! You live in a peaceful place (even if the highway noise is louder than you like).
ReplyDeleteLove the fairy flowers.
Yes, I'm in the crowd of women who no longer wear high heels.... (smile)
ReplyDeleteThose pictures taken from the drone are fascinating!
