Monday Monday, Birds, People, and Blessings!

Happy Monday morning everyone!  I hope you have had a peaceful and blessed weekend.  Ours was somewhat busy, but all good. I'll start out with a few pictures from Still Waters Pond of a Brown Thrasher that landed in a tree and visited for a few minutes. We don't get to see them very often, and normally they are on the ground, "thrashing about" in the bushes and weeds, looking for a good meal. But this one decided to land in a tree to say hello, so here he is:

The Brown Thrasher

The weekend started out with one incident that wasn't so great.  We went over to our son and DIL's house to check on things since they are on vacation, and as we stepped out the front door a very long black snake slithered across the step just as my hubby was about to step down on the step. When he saw the snake he leaped across the step and almost knocked me down as I was in front of him headed for the gate. This all happened very fast, as you can imagine, and left us both a bit breathless at being taken by surprise.  We recovered from the "shock" and headed on home.  It wasn't until a day later that my hubby realized that he must have either pulled a muscle or pinched a nerve in his lower back when he made that giant leap.  And so for the rest of the weekend he was pretty much in pain, using ice packs and/or the heating pad and taking anti-inflammatory meds.  Thankfully today as I write this he is starting to feel better, but still hasn't totally recovered. We are just very thankful that he didn't fall or actually knock me down in the process either. It could have been much worse.  We are very thankful.

On Saturday I had the privilege of attending and helping out at a baby shower at our church.  This was actually a kind of a "mission project", as this dear sweet family does not attend our church, but they are the neighbors of one of our members, and she wanted to help them out.  They are a blended family and between them already have 8 children, and this baby will make #9!

I know...they look so young to have so many children...but I must tell you they are the sweetest couple, and the three youngest children, all boys, came along with them, and they were so well behaved and precious.  The new baby is a girl, and she is expected to make her arrival in a couple of weeks.

Some of our thoughtful ladies also brought gifts for these children to help entertain them while Mommie opened her presents.  That was a very smart idea!

I was very pleased so see that there were many wonderful gifts, including this adorable Care Bear Tricycle, made with diapers, bottles, booties, onesies, and various other necessities for a new baby.

It was nice that we already knew the baby was a girl, so gift buying was much easier!

I hope we get to see the baby dressed in this precious little blue dress!!

This is my friend Norma, who planned the shower and is always looking for ways to reach out to our community and help children and families.  She is a blessing to all of us.

Here's a picture that hubby took of me before I left for the shower. I don't get to wear my flowered summer skirt very often, but felt like a baby shower was a perfect opportunity!

On Sunday morning hubby made it to Sunday School to teach our Adult Sunday School class, but was hurting so bad in his back that he really wanted to go home as he knew trying to sit still in a pew for an hour was going to be very painful. So we came back home and took it easy the rest of the day.
Thankfully, our son Scott came home to visit (and do his laundry, LOL), and he grilled some hamburgers for lunch. That was a real treat!
Scott's grilled hamburgers (or anything he grills) are always the best!!

This is little out of the sequence of events, but on Friday our "kids" Noah and Dawn came back from Maine after being up there for a couple of weeks.  They had originally planned to come back down here to work, but after a lot of consideration they have realized that they are better off back in Maine where they have more connections and opportunities.  We are going to miss them, but are so very thankful for the time we had together while they were here.

I would appreciate your prayers for them as they begin a new chapter in their lives.
Their time here was hopefully a new beginning in many deeper aspects, and this verse from
Philippians 1:6 really speaks to that hope and promise:

I found this song by Steve Green that also speaks to that promise.
I am dedicating this song to Noah and Dawn with a prayer for their future:

Lyrics

He who began a good work in you
He who began a good work in you
Will be faithful to complete it
He'll be faithful to complete it
He who started the work
Will be faithful to complete it in you

If the struggle you're facing
Is slowly replacing
Your hope with despair
Or the process is long
And you're losing your song
In the night
You can be sure
That the Lord has His hand on you
Safe and secure
He will never abandon you
You are His treasure
And He finds His pleasure in you

He who began a good work in you
He who began a good work in you
Will be faithful to complete it
He'll be faithful to complete it
He who started the work
Will be faithful to complete it in you
He who began a good work in you
He who began a good work in you
Will be faithful to complete it
He'll be faithful to complete it
He who started the work
Will be faithful to complete it in you

Well, that's about it for today. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.

Numbers 6:24-26

24 “The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
26 The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.”
Amen.

  1. OH! A baby girl with all those big brothers! 💕 😄

    Your skirt is beautiful.

"It could have been much worse."

Yes! But all he got was a pulled muscle because he jumped out of the way! Yikes.

  2. I know it was hard to say goodbye to Noah, but yet, they are probably right about the connections to get started. I know that having them to visit was such a blessing.
It is crazy how just what seems like a simple move can set us back after a certain age. I know 60 was a marker for both myself and hubby. The littlest thing can cost a lot in having to rest and take Aleve:)
The shower was a lovely idea and that is what the church should be doing. It always feels good to do something to help out.

  3. Oh dear, that could have been a nasty fall. So sorry John hurt his back, sure hope he continues to get better. The shower was such a nice thing to do, the mother-to-be looked very appreciative. AND, the pictures of the thrasher were great. You must have a very good camera.

  4. I'm so glad you both didn't fall and I hope your husband's back will be better really soon. Love the thrasher pictures. And what a sweet shower for that new baby girl coming. I love that song by Steve Green. It's been awhile since I've heard it. Hope you have a great week Pam.

  5. Thank goodness for John's quick reflexes .... that the both of you weren't badly hurt. Me, I'm so clumsy, I'd have probably stepped on that snake all the while having a heart attack. Praying he finds comfort from the pain real soon. Oh, I love your church's outreach; those children are adorable. That's a surprise about Noah and Dawn. At least they got to sample the states while young; and years from now they won't look back and say, "What if?" Blessings!

  6. Sorry to hear about your husbands injury and I hope it clears up quickly. Good thing he had quick reactions though as even so called harmless snakes can bite and do damage. I really don't know one bird from the other but I do like seeing photos or them and better yet seeing them in person. I am sorry to hear your grandkids are going back to Maine. I know you were so happy to have them around. I hope it works out for them the way they want it too.

  7. Oh dear Pam! I will pray for sure for your hubby as that could have been a horrific! What a blessing you all were to this precious couple and what a wonderful way to reach out to the community. ALL churches need to do more of this and reach out. Will pray for Noah and Dawn too. Claiming that verse with you over their lives Pam. Our God sure can do more than we could ever fathom! I pray that your week is wonderful in every way and glad that you enjoyed some grilled burgers! YUM! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  8. I'm so glad that John's pulled muscle wasn't worse and that you weren't hurt in the snake incident, Pamela. Hope he will mend quickly! But I am sad to hear that Noah and Dawn are moving back up north, and away from you. I do know you have treasured the time you all have had together. I know I've dragged my feet about ordering those pillows, but I'm still interested. Does she have a website for her creations? Let me know when you have a chance, my friend.
    Have a blessed week!

    1. Oh my goodness! I'd forgotten about your pillows. Right now she has a Facebook page, but I know you aren't on FB anymore. 'The Dawn of Design". However, she has had an ETSY sight in the past and is talking about getting it going again. I know she would be very happy to make the pillows for you and I will let her know you are still interested and maybe we can work something out for you to contact her directly. Thank you, Martha.

  9. I am sorry your hubby hurt his back jumping over the snake! Goodness, that had to get the adrenaline flowing! Black Racers are actually good to have around because they eat mice and other vermin but are not aggressive to humans (unless stepped on!!). Hope he is feeling better each day! I am so sad that your grandkids have decided to go back to Maine but I know you all enjoyed having them with you these past months! I wish them all the best! Hugs!!

  10. Hi Norma! My, she looks like a wonderful sister in Christ! Such a huge smile. Every church needs to have at least one Norma. (My opinion.)
I'm so glad that neither you or your Hubby was hurt seriously, but I'm really sorry that he's still hurting. I know neither one of you would miss church unless he was really in pain. Poory guy.
I'm sorry your kids are heading back up to Maine. I know how much you enjoyed having them there with you. But you're right, you've planted a seed in them and now I hope they find a church home that will help them grow in their faith. I'm going to pray for that to happen.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  11. Love the skirt. Pretty colors.
I hope John's back heals soon. He needs to rest and take care of himself.
Our Brown Thrasher's have been AWOL this year. I don't know why they're not nesting on our property. We usually see a lot of 'em. Also haven't seen any Towhee's (Pipilo). There are usually bunches of them under our feeders. Very odd. Butterflies are missing too. Hmmmm ...
    Blessings. xx

    1. I've never had Towhees around our feeders, but I do hear them in the woods where we walk. They don't always come out where I can see them, but I definitely hear them, so I know they are still there. Butterflies are getting pretty active now. Give them time...they may be slow in getting to you!

  16. I'm late in blog reading, Pam, as we were out of state visiting family. Sorry to read about the snake scare and John's pulled muscle. All best wishes to Noah and Dawn on the decision to remain in New England. It was wonderful to read about and see that young family about to welcome a new baby.
