This will be kind of a rambling post of pictures, thoughts and concerns...

A Juvenile Cardinal enjoying his supper |
I honestly don't know what to write these days. Our country has gone crazy. And if you watch any news at all, you are already painfully aware of this. Our blogs are places where we can retreat away from the world for a little while, and enjoy some time among "friends", sharing things that we enjoy doing, places we've been, words of hope and encouragement that God has given us to pass on to others.

Right now the "news" is so dismal, there is only one thing I can do...and that is pray for our nation, our President, our government, our police officers and soldiers on the front line trying to maintain order in a world of chaos. Pray...and commit all of this to the Lord, for without Him we can do nothing.

Here is one good piece of advice that we read this morning in our devotions...and it stuck with me. It comes from 2 Peter 3: 15-18.
"15. And consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation--
as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,
16. as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things,
in which are some things hard to understand,
which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction,
as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.
17. You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand,
beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness,
being led away with the error of the wicked;
18. but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory both now and forever.
Amen."

Neighborhood Kitty, watching the birds at the bird feeder, and thinking about "supper". But not gonna happen on my watch! |
Sometimes we get so caught up in the things that are happening around us that it is easy to lose sight of the real issue and the bigger picture of what God may be trying to teach us. If you hear something being said often enough from the media and from people in high places, it almost becomes a "law" to us...even though it may be totally incorrect and against our beliefs. But if it is told to us often enough, we may begin to go along with the "crowd" and with popular thought, regardless of whether or not it is really true or in keeping with the truth of God's Word.
Without intention, I believe I was just describing "propaganda"...here is the definition according to Wikipedia:
"Propaganda is communication that is used primarily to influence an audience and further an agenda, which may not be objective and may be presenting facts selectively to encourage a particular synthesis or perception, or using loaded language to produce an emotional rather than a rational response to the information that is presented.[2] Propaganda is often associated with material prepared by governments, but activist groups, companies, religious organizations, the media, and individuals can also produce propaganda. In today's world, we are being bombarded with propaganda from every outlet. Social media is one of the biggest methods being utilized to spread messages of hate and false information. Therefore, it is even more important than ever that we stay in God's Word as much as possible...and pull away from the influence of the media and the world whenever we can. Take a walk, read a good book, take a ride (but don't turn on the radio or read your cell phone). Turn off social media for a while and take a good break from it. Call a friend and be a good listener and encourager. I love reading what my friends write here in "blogland", and I look forward to your posts each day.
I hope you've enjoyed these pictures from around my side of the pond that were interspersed among my rambling thoughts today.

Gloxinia has two blooms!! |
Friends, we just really need to pray for one another! We are all hurting in one way or another...and we need each other! And as we see the day approaching for the return of the Lord, we are going to need each other's encouragement and prayers all the more. Thank you for being here. You are each a special part of my day...even if I don't always get around to reading everyone's posts until a day late...I look forward to catching up with you. May God bless you each and everyone, and give you peace. Amen.

Young Cardinal Says Good Night! |
Good Evening Pam, I am finally able to comment again. I know it is important to stay up to date on news but I limit myself to tv and radio. I don't think it is healthy to watch the images of horror and listen to propaganda over and over. I enjoy prayer time early in the morning beside my window and again while walking down our quiet street while enjoying the beauty all around. Like you, I am grateful for my blog friends and the encouragement we offer one another. I enjoyed your photos very much. Have a pleasant night.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mildred. I think we are all seeking our places of peace and calm during these difficult days. I am so glad that you are able to get out and walk and enjoy your beautiful neighborhood. God has blessed you with such a lovely place to live. And I am thankful that you are back here again with us!! I truly missed you.
DeleteI just finished sharing with my Renewed Widows Fellowship that it is so important that we keep on praising God, even during difficult times. I know this is easier said than done. We still do have so much to praise Him for. Psalm 103:2-5 were the verses we were looking at. (NIV) 2 Praise the LORD, my soul,
ReplyDeleteand forget not all his benefits—
3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Be encouraged my friend.
Psalm 103 is one of my favorites. When we spend more time praising the Lord, we are less prone to fall into despair. Thank you for these powerful words.
DeleteGood night Cardinal. The news is awful but I spent time outside taking some photos. Sleep well.
ReplyDeleteAnd I loved seeing your happy pictures. I love your back screen door and your beach roses! Thank you for sharing those on FB. Right now I think we all just need calm and beauty to soothe our troubled souls.
DeleteAmen, Pamela. It is chaos worldwide. And I am very happy with your blog, which points in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Aritha. I appreciate your thoughts from across the seas. I am sorry that I have not been as faithful to you, and I will try to do better. It's been a strange year. God bless you and take care and may you live in peace. Amen.
DeleteWhat a good post with excellent advice. It's a hard time and all of the events and deaths over the past few months has made me feel very sad this week. But I am praying that we can come together and I know God is with us through every trying time. Sweet hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe that sorrow is stealing over all of us as we watch these events unfold around us. But if that sorrow drives us to our knees in prayer for our country, then it has done a good thing. We need the fellowship of one another more and more these days. Thank you for being here, my friend! Blessings to you and yours.
DeleteWe need to double our prayer life for each other and this great country. I enjoyed the pictures here.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. Yes, I believe these situations are driving many of us to our knees and our "prayer closets" more and more. So thankful for good friends here who agree together in prayer. Thank you!
DeleteYes, Pamela, we must continue to pray for one another and for our troubled nation. Like you, I've decided to post things and situations NOT related to the ongoing tribulations, because we all need a break from it, just as you gave us in these lovely photos and scripture here. May God get us through these times and make us stronger and more faithful to Him.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Thank you, Martha. Yes, we need to remember that there is still a wonderful world out there as well, and people who need the Lord and who need an uplifting word and our prayers. We need to encourage one another and help us all to see the brighter side of this life...which comes through knowing Christ as our Lord and Savior. He gives us the peace we need to get through our days. Thank you for being that special kind of friend.
DeleteI love your photos and those velvety purple gloxinias are gorgeous! I agree that if we just stay away from the media and scroll past the hate on Facebook, life feels better. So very sad.
ReplyDeleteI want to know enough to pray wisely. I limit my news time but probably not enough. History does repeat itself to some extent. Love the pictures of the cardinal.
ReplyDeleteLast evening, our church had drive-through communion. This was the third one the church has had. This was the first one I could go to. I noticed on the front doors of the church were two signs, each telling that the church was closed due to the CoviD 19 restrictions. On the middle of the page were these words,"God is in contol." At the bottom of each page were the words telling us to "Be Safe (or Be Blessed)," We have to remember that God is in Control, even at times it migh not look like it. Peace and blessings.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these words, Pam. Things are scary for sure, however, God didn't give us a spirit of fear and perfect love casts out fear...
ReplyDeleteThere's so much going on spiritually--far more than we can see--yet we can pray (spiritual warfare) as we walk the narrow path.
Love and blessings!
