All That Glitters Tuesday 4

All That Glitters

Welcome to Tuesday 4 where we keep alive the weekly meme started by our good Blogging friend Toni Taddeo. I think she would be pleased to see people joining in.
I confess that I have not been doing these weekly Tuesday 4 memes...but today I just wanted to join in the fun with the rest of our friends.  We all need a little more glitter and sparkle in our lives these days. So here are the questions

Let's talk about all that Glitters!

1. Everyone has a birth stone and a birth flower.
What are yours?
Sapphire, the birthstone of September, is most desired in its pure, rich blue color but is present in almost every color including pink, yellow and green. In the Middle Ages the gem was believed to protect those close to you from harm and also represented loyalty and trust.
Wow! I didn't know that about the Sapphire.  I do have several pieces of jewelry with sapphires in them. One is a ring that my hubby gave me that is actually quite dark blue, almost black, and it looks a lot like the Princess Di ring. (Or is it Kate Middleton's ring?)  However, my wrinkled fingers don't look anything like Princess Di's hands did, I'm sure.
aster
September. September's birth flower is the aster which is said to represent both love and daintiness. The flowers are also associated with wisdom, valour and faith, making them a great choice for dear friends and family members.
I think I like that flower. Would love to have more wisdom, valour, and faith in these days of such turbulence.

2. Gold glitters and California is the Golden State. What is your
state called?  The Sunshine State, and we do live up to our name

3. "All that glitters is not gold' goes the old saying.
Do you have a favorite saying or biblical verse you will share with us?
"Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised."
Proverbs 31:30 NKJV

. 4.Glittery greeting cards or plain?
Which is your preference?
Well, I think the glittery cards are beautiful, but like others have said already, the glitter tends to get all over everything and makes a mess, so from that standpoint, I guess the non-glittery type are best.   I just love to receive cards, and won't complain if someone sends me one with glitter at all!  Sometimes we need to add a little sparkle to our lives!

  4. Lovely.. thanks for joining. Toni would be so happy to see you doing it!
Interesting side note you might like: In Hebrew the verse goes (I'm transliterating so..) sheker ha chan , hevel ha yofi. (Chan.. like cane and the root of my name..Chana(sounds like Hanna) meaning grace)
Sheker is a lie.. Yofi means beauty. But the interesting thing is HEVEL.. it means worthless. Hevel is the actual name of Abel in the bible. I find that so sad.

  5. Florida really is the sunshine state. I used to love heading out to go somewhere first thing in the morning when we lived there. The sky would be so blue and the air seemed clearer somehow. It always put me in the best mood!

  11. I enjoyed your answers. I too am a September girl. I have a sapphire ring. I actually have worn a birthstone ring since I was 8 years old. I have had 3 different ones. My mother bought my current one when I married and I have had it on ever since. Sapphires are definitely the prettiest. My daughter was born in September so she will get those sapphires one day.

  13. These were great, Pam. My birthstone is emerald, flower is Lily of the Valley, and Texas state motto is Friendship. I try to avoid cards with glitter, I usually look more for the message, but, as you say, if someone sends me a glittery card, I will be happy for their thinking of me. And your ring looks beautiful on your hand.

  14. Pam: My birthstone is Aquemarine (March). I have had several inexpensive birthstone rings in my life. My birth flower is the daffodil or the jonquil. My State nickname is "The Hoosier State." I like cards; the glittery ones are nice but can be a mess. One time, my grandmother sent our son a postcard from Florida that said, "The Sunshine State" He was only about six then. He was convinced it never rained in Florida. Wouldn't believe it did.

  15. Oh I love, love, love your ring. I happen to love sapphires though it isn't my birthstone. I also like the dark blue ones like you have. I own a sapphire ring also but it looks rather different. My real birthstone is emerald and I can't afford that one. Besides I like sapphire better :-). My flower is the Lily of the Valley. I'm not sure I've ever seen a Lily of the Valley in real life but I do remember the song "He's the Lily of the Valley...." and I like it a lot. My province is called "Beautiful British Columbia" and we are very blessed with lots of geographic variety, 4 seasons and plenty of natural beauty. My favourite bible verse is one inscribed in my first bible, Proverbs 3:5-6. I equally like glittery cards and plain cards. If I receive a card I am blessed because around here people have not bothered to send many cards since the popularity of email (even that is very dated) and the increased postage costs. Have a wonderful weekend. xx
