Friday Foto Friends is Here Again!

It's time for Friday Fotos, Friends!  It's been kind of a busy week and yet not really that busy, but for some reason I just haven't had much time to spend here in Blogland or on Facebook. I think I've kind of been burned out by all the hype going on and just needed to pull away and focus on more calming and peaceful things.  It seems like many of us are suffering the same kinds of feelings and we need to allow ourselves to escape for a spell for sanity's sake.  So here are a few random photos from the week:

The baby Tufted Titmouses have flown the coop, left the nest, disappeared...I'm sure their parents have taken them to someplace of safety to teach them to fly and survive on their own.  But this was the scene at their house this morning...looks like they moved out in the early hours and left behind some of their nesting materials...
I will keep a watch out for them to see if they show up at the bird feeders with the parents anytime soon.

Speaking of showing up at the bird feeders, we have had a LOT of Blue Jays flying around and showing up at the bird feeders this week. Seems like another new family has moved into the neighborhood...

And here's another new youngster who discovered the secret bird feeder on my window.  Only a few privileged birds have discovered it, and this young Cardinal is one...she stayed there quite a while feasting on the seeds while none of the others knew where she was...   There are a lot of very young Cardinals out there, and I think she was hoping they wouldn't discover her secret stash.

This is right in front of my desk and computer, and I just sat here and watched and enjoyed the show.

Thursday morning I decided to take another ride around the pond in the kayak.  I know, it's hard to see me way out there. I need to teach my hubby how to use the zoom feature on the phone/camera...but you get the idea...It was a gorgeous morning.

And while I was paddling around, I spied this beautiful male Wood Duck in the pond.
But he promptly flew away as soon as he caught wind of me sneaking up on him.

So I just had to concentrate of taking pictures of all the other beauty around me as I paddled about:
See the bee in the lily above? I had to be careful as most every lily had a bee in it! But I guess that is a good sign! The honey bees seem to be alive and well here on Still Waters Pond!

This Pickerel Weed was really blooming even better this week, so I tried to get a little closer to get a good picture.

Did you notice what I did NOT notice until I put this picture on the computer?
Yes, that is a dragonfly right there beside the flower...and he stayed there for both pictures.
Now I wish I had zoomed in a little closer to get a better look at him, but this was good enough.
I guess he gets the prize for being the best photo bomber of the day!

I wanted you to see how pretty this location is where that Pickerel Week is growing, right under a lovely maple tree along the shore. The sun was really bright so the lighting isn't the best, but it was such a pretty spot and a very pleasant place.

Oh, I managed to pull up two water lilies today without tipping myself over! (and without getting stung by the bees!)

Now, here is another story from the week.
We were watching this beautiful Great White Egret fishing in the pond one day.
She was busily watching for a fish to catch and being ever so patient.

And then this Great Blue Heron flew in nearby and started fishing in the pond for his lunch as well.

All of a sudden the heron caught this fish! He did it so quickly we barely saw his head go down to snatch it from the water:

And then he sat there and devoured that fish whole...right down the gullet.

Well, we looked back over at the Egret, and she had this very jealous look on her face as she watched the heron catch that fish and eat it right in front of her! It was as if she was saying, "The nerve of him catching that fish in my pond and not even offering me a bite!"

As soon as the heron finished his meal, he moved on to other places looking for his next snack.

And what was so funny was this egret hurried right over to that same spot where she saw the heron catch that fish and started fishing there herself! Isn't that just like us?
We see someone else has better "luck" than we do with life and we get jealous and want to do exactly what they did to be successful.

But sometimes that just doesn't work out like we hope it will.  We weren't all meant to be herons. "Keeping up with the "Herons" in life isn't always such a good idea.

Maybe we should learn from these messages:

Matthew 6:33-34
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,
and all these things shall be added to you.
34.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about its own things.
Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

Matthew 7:7-11
7.  "Ask, and it will be given to you;
Seek and you will find;
Knock, and it will be opened to you.
8.  For everyone who asks receives,
and he who seeks finds,
and to him who knocks it will be opened.
9.  Or what man is there among you who,
if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
10.  Or if he asks for a fish,
will he give him a serpent?
11.  If you then, being evil,
know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will your Father who is in heaven
give good things to those who ask Him!"

I hope you are having a good week and that God is taking good care of you!  It's been a long few months, but God has taken very good care of us. I am very thankful for the ways He watches over us and our loved ones.

Have a blessed day and weekend friends!

  1. Lovely photos. Isn't it fun doing all the bird watching at your place? I wish I could sit there and watch along with you. The photos are a good substitute. I liked your story of the heron and the egret. The bird behavior does indeed mimic humans at their baser levels. Have a wonderful Friday Pamela.

    1. I wish you could come and sit here with me too. We'd have such fun! Yes, I think I love to watch the birds so much because they do remind me of ourselves. I especially love to see how diligent and committed the parents are in taking care of their young. That has always made a big impression on me! And also that many birds are committed to their same partner for life! That is also amazing!! Hope you have a blessed weekend!

  2. Loved the photos...just like a morning walk in nature. Just what I needed because it's too darn .to go for a walk here today. I know Blue Jays are noisy and bossy, but they are my favorite. I just love their color. So much life to see in the pond since it filled up! Have a blessed Friday and weekend!

    1. it's too muggy to go for a walk. I don't know why it wiped that part out. LOL

    2. I knew what you meant. And yes, the Blue Jays are noisy but they are beautiful. They usually don't spend that much time at the bird feeders, but since there are so many young ones I guess they see that as an easy "fast food" for the kiddos. LOL. And yes, it is too muggy here today as well. Already in the 80's at 8 am.! Gonna be a hot one! Have a blessed day and stay cool! Hope your pool arrives soon!

    1. You are so welcome, Martha. I believe that is what God has placed me here in this location for these days..."Beside the Still Waters" isn't just for me alone...it is to share with others so we can all breathe some fresh air and PEACE during these days of much turmoil. God bless you my friend. Keep looking up!

  4. I read the Egret and Heron story out loud to my hubby and we had a laugh! Always looking for that better fishing hole! And a good story for life. Love seeing all the pretty flowers blooming after we finally got some rain a week or so ago. Enjoy your day and your adventures!

    1. Thank you, Diane! Yes, it was comical to see the real "green with envy" look in that Egret's eyes when that Heron just plopped right down and caught a fish just like that! The Egret had been there forever watching and waiting and getting nothing! It reminds me of Jesus telling the disciples to "cast your nets on the other side of the boat", and they caught so many fish they couldn't haul it all in! LOL. Hope your eye is better by now and that you are feeling better. Although today is rather hot and sticky to go out. We've been out for our walk already and had to come back home to our cool AC house! Blessings to you and yours.

    1. Thank you, Linda! I am glad you enjoy it. I hope that it is a pleasant alternative to what is happening in the world these days. That is my desire...to see the beauty in each day as God displays it for us to enjoy. We just have to look for it. There's always bad stuff to see, but this is so much more relaxing for our souls! My old body and spirit can only stand so much stress! LOL.

  6. Pamela, your photos are amazing. I never would have noticed the dragonfly. The water lilies are so pretty. Now, tell me, did you still have a rope attached to the kayak when you were out there in the midst of those lilies? That is a little scary to me and I would never get in a boat alone on any body of water. What a brave lady you are. All your pictures are so good. I really think your new location has even more to photograph than your old.

    1. Thank you Nonnie. I totally missed the dragonfly too, until looking here. I was thrilled! No, I no longer use the rope as it only goes a short distance and I want to explore around the whole pond. I do wear a life jacket, and this pond is not really deep, although I would not want to fall in as the bottom is quite mucky yucky, so I am very careful, believe me!!I am enjoying all the bird life here on the pond, but I do miss our deer and bears. Honest! But these are much safer critters to watch! LOL.

  7. As always, I love your pictures of Still Water Pond. I also live to hear your stories about what you find and how you can relate them to the scripture and life as a Christian.

    Have a great weekend.

  8. Oh wow! I love the flowers and insects, but the bird story is the winner for me. Nature is so fascinating to watch. God has created each creature uniquely , just like us as humans.

    1. Thank you, Ruth. It was so funny to see the look on that egret's face when the heron got that fish. I mean, I could truly read his mind! Hmmm, when I can read the mind of a bird, that's something. LOL. Not sure what, but it's something! Have a blessed day.

  13. Oh, what awesome pictures! Made me wish I were right there with you enjoying the peacefulness. We too love to watch the birds at our feeders, and my DH mentioned just yesterday that we must have every bluejay in the county!!! Right now a family of woodpeckers is eating us out of house & home. I have never seen water lilies up close (like your photo)...had no idea they were so pretty. And yes, I will be so very thankful when (if ever) our country can be restored to peace and good health. I am praying constantly over our situation as I am sure you are too. Oh, and I loved the story about the herons:) We occasionally get one by our pond too but I never get a close look at them. Hope you have a lovely (and peaceful) weekend.

    1. Thank you, Cheri. Come on down anytime! We can sit out by the pond and watch the birds go fishing. Sure beats anything you can find on TV these days! Yes, I am constantly praying as well. We are living in very strange and sad times. And yet there is still much good happening when we take the time to look for it. May your weekend be blessed and peaceful too!

And the water lilies you were able to bring home -- such a beautiful white!

    1. Thank you, Barbara! It really was comical to see the look on that Egret's face when the Heron caught that fish. That was hilarious. I am glad I caught it on camera! And the water lilies are so pretty right now. I am enjoying them open and close up at night, even after picking them! (for a couple of days and then they close up and die.) Have a blessed and beautiful Father's Day weekend.
