Friday Foto Friends At Last!

Last night I struggled for several hours trying to write a post for today, but Blogger would not upload my pictures.  I restarted my computer, cleaned out the temporary files, did all kinds of things that others said online might help, but to no avail as of bedtime last night.  So I came in here this morning with my cup of tea and sat down and said, Okay, Lord, it's now or never!  And guess what! It's finally working again! Thank YOU, Lord, and thank you, Blogger, for fixing whatever needed fixing!  And so I will start out with this picture, which is currently for sale in our Dixie Cottage store, but it originated from our dear blogging friend Barbara, over at Sweet Tea and Sandals.  Yes, this is one of her beautiful cross-stitched creations.  If you read Barbara's blog, you will know that she has been merging her home with her new hubby's home, and so she has been purging many of her things, including many signs and other decorative items.  A few weeks ago she and Gary brought many items to Dixie Cottage to be sold on consignment, and I must say that her items have been very popular!  This is one of them, and I am thinking I may just have to purchase this one for myself:

It was sitting on this beautiful hutch in the store, but now that hutch has been sold, so it is looking for a new place to sit.  Actually several of the items on this hutch came from Barbara, and now they are scattered about in other locations as well waiting to go to their new forever homes:

Dixie Cottage is becoming more and more interesting as we find new and "old" treasures to sell. Someone actually donated this very old Singer Sewing machine for us to sell.  We aren't really an antique store, but we do a lot of re-purposing and perhaps someone just might see the potential in this lovely antique and take it home with them. It is missing its treadle and wheel, but there is actually a little motor tucked in a drawer that apparently can still be attached and used if someone knows how to do it.
Oh, that sign on the top that says "Sewing~ Plain or Fancy"...well that was one of Barbara's signs, and a dear lady who says she has her own "She-Shed" where she does her sewing, wanted that sign for in there.  And the "Happiness is Homemade" also came from Barbara, and is still waiting for its new home.

Barbara used to do a lot of quilting and this is another of her creations:

This is just a simple little sign in a frame, which happens to be a favorite benediction of mine as I remember it being said in our youth group at the close of every service when I was a teen...we would join hands criss-crossed in a circle and say this before we departed...

anyway...I love this little sign and have placed it on a table just inside the store where it will actually greet people as they enter:

Another of my favorite signs that came from Barbara is the one below that says
"I've Reached the Age Where Happy Hour Is Taking a Nap".  I've been debating on taking that one home and hanging it above our bed...lol.

Oh, one more, well actually there are two in this picture...the "Grateful, Thankful, Blessed" sign has already been sold to a grateful, thankful, and blessed customer.  The other one,
"Good Food, Good Friends, Good Times" is still waiting for just the right person to come along and snatch it up.

There are more lovely items from Barbara in our store, and many have already been sold, but there are still some waiting for their new homes.  Thank you, Barbara, for sharing your creations and lovely items with us...and the world!

Now, moving right along to other things...

We have several other very creative vendors at Dixie Cottage, and this particular lady has very interesting and eclectic items for sale that she creates, repurposes, restores...
This adorable child's rocking chair was sold the first day it arrived, to a couple of grandparents who wanted it for their granddaughter!  How very sweet!!

This little accessory table has been painted with much love and is waiting for just the right person to come and fall in love with it and take it home!

And now we have a new vendor who does pottery, and she brought in a few pieces to see how they will sell...

These are just some samples of what she does! Very unique and beautiful!

I really didn't intend for this post to be all about Dixie Cottage, but since that is where I spend most of my time these days, that is what I have to take pictures of!  However, yesterday hubby and I had a day all to ourselves and we decided to do something different.  We went out to breakfast at a little cafe' in the neighboring city of Palatka, called "Magnolia Cafe'".
Of course I took some pictures:

We had visited there a few years ago (before Covid), but then they closed down during the pandemic and actually during that time totally remodeled the whole place and only reopened a short time ago. If you click on that link, you will see what it looked like then, and also the menu from 2019.  I didn't take a picture of the menu yesterday, but I should have...the prices were half again more and we were in shock, and if we hadn't have been so hungry we might have just gotten up and left, but we decided to go ahead and splurge just this once...

Our water came in that beautiful green bottle! And I loved the clear glass tea cup...

I don't get out much...I've never seen a water bottle like this before:

Oh, we were surprised to see that they also have a squirrel mascot in their cafe'! I wonder if he's related to our Skippy at Dixie Cottage?

The food might have been expensive, but they certainly gave us more than enough to eat!

Hubby had the French Toast, and those blueberries in whipped cream were supposed to go on top, but he gave them to me and I ate most of them. The whipped cream was definitely home-made, and was VERY good. I couldn't eat it all, however.

This is my plate, and that strawberry jelly on top of my toast is homemade also.  After looking back at my previous post from this place, it looks like I had the same thing, except there was no bacon with this one. I hate to think how much it would have cost to add it! LOL. And actually there was so much food here that I took home half of it, which would be enough for another full meal. So I guess I can't complain too much about the price. Next time maybe we'll order one meal and split it!  (If there IS a next time! LOL).
It really was good and we enjoyed it very much, even if it did cost us about double what we normally would spend for breakfast!

You may not appreciate these pictures of the bathroom, but it really was so pretty in there I had to take a picture. That floor is gorgeous...and I guess the higher prices are paying for the "gold" grab bar and gilded mirror...LOL.

Okay, moving right along...
Next door to the restaurant is this store, "Urban Farmhouse", which is very much like our own Dixie Cottage.  As a matter of fact, if you read that previous link I shared with you from 2019, you will see that we visited there at that time as well, and back then our son actually was a vendor in this store, selling some of his custom made console tables and other items he had painted.  As time went by our son and his wife were able to buy their own store over in St. Augustine, (Dixie Cottage), and the rest is history.  And so  this is kind of where he got his start and got the idea for this type of store...

Urban Farmhouse was still closed after we finished our breakfast, so all I could do was peek inside the windows, so please excuse the reflections in some of these pictures:

They have a lot of similar items that we have, but they have been in business a lot longer and have a lot more stuff crowded in a small space.  It is a very interesting and unique store as well, and I would have loved to have gotten inside to see a few more things up close.  Maybe I will go back another day when they are open.  Yes, we are kind of in competition with them now, but they are 15 miles away and in a whole different kind of community, and so we both serve our communities well.

I love that sign below:  "I Love You Like Biscuits and Gravy"....you'd have to be southern to understand it. LOL.

Okay, that's enough of that!  I hope you've enjoyed "window shopping" with me today! LOL.

Thinking of "windows", I thought about this Bible Verse that I've heard many times before, and somehow I just felt like I needed to share it with you:

"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it."
Malachi 3:10

Actually, I commend to your reading the whole third chapter of Malachi to get the full meaning of this verse, but this one has always stuck out at me because God has used it in our lives over the years in special ways. When we give of our own substance, hearts, and lives to the service of the Lord, He always blesses us exactly as this verse says He will...He "opens the windows of heaven and pours out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it..."  I can attest to this that it is true...blessings beyond measure...not so much of monetary value, but everlasting value that does not perish.  Something to ponder today as we go about our business.

Happy Friday, Friends!!

  1. Well the store seems to have really taken off and I hope it becomes a huge smash hit. It's nice when you go into a restaurant or business and the bathroom is nice. So I get why you took the photos. Its not the usual by any means.
I think eating out is important even with increased prices. Not only does it keep small business alive but it is important to get out and be served a little too. I keep prayers up that prices, gas etc can be taken down. It's all artificial anyway. We finally have sunshine after 6 days of rain and high wind. 12 inches of rain here but still not enough which is amazing. I the East Coast has seen the last of the hurricanes and tropical storms. Gosh, parts of NJ are still recovering from Sandy! Have a great Friday.

    1. Ha Ha, I am glad you appreciated my bathroom photos. It was so pretty in there I just couldn't help myself! LOL. The lower part of the walls were a deep hunter green, and the floor was a beautiful black and white tile pattern that I've never seen before. It was "elegant". Oh, I am glad you are finally getting some sunshine after the storm. We've had a beautiful fall like week here after the storm of last week. It's been really nice, and I know it's been a big help for those south of us who are trying to clean up and restore their lives, which is going to take a long time, I'm afraid. I hope you have a blessed and beautiful weekend.

  2. What a beautiful post, Pam! We too have found that that verse in Malachi is so very true!

    1. Oh, yes! Those of us in "ministry" know its value, don't we? As a matter of fact, when my husband made the decision to go to seminary, and it was going to be a huge step of faith for us to move far away from home to go, with three young children, and no real visible means of support, the dean of the school quoted the portion of that verse about "try Me now in this, and see if I won't open the windows of heaven..."etc. and that has stuck in my heart and mind ever since. God has truly poured out His blessings on us throughout the years as a result of our taking that step of faith to follow Him no matter what. I hope you have a blessed and beautiful weekend.

  3. What a great bushel of blessings, Pam! I'll have one of those ... and one of those ... and that over there! (The 'Relax and Accept the Crazy' sign is calling my name, but I don't suppose they ship?) Your breakfast looks and sounds so good! That's my favorite meal of the day. Lately, I've noticed the astronomical increase in ordinary restaurant fare. Somedays it doesn't even seem worth it.

Oh! Before I forget, I had that very same experience as you last night, not getting my pictures to load. I tried all sorts of trouble-shooting, even copying and trying to paste. Then, where you click on the little icon to insert pictures? Instead of selecting the top default (from computer) I clicked on the one right below (photos) and that seemed to do the trick. Lucky!
    Have a blessed day!

    1. Come on down and pick up anything you want!! WE could ship if you want to pay the high shipping costs. Kind of takes away the joy of the good bargain when the shipping has to be so high. That along with the high cost of fuel, food, and everything else these days...Oh well, such is life. We have to enjoy what we can while we can! Oh, thank you for the idea about clicking on the "photos" button instead of the other. I will try that next time I have a problem. It seems to be working fine now, and others were experiencing the same thing, so I guess it was a blogger issue and not just me. Hope your day is blessed too!

  4. WOW! Lots and lots of interesting things in the shop..and the food--oh my! I thought that little rocking chair was a Time Out chair at first. So cute. I can see why the grandparents picked it up. I had a little pink Time Out chair when the girls were little and spent a lot of time at my house. It actually had a little battery powered clock that you set to ding when the time was up. lol. xo Diana

    1. Oh, the time out chair sounds really cute, and with a timer, that's a good idea! I don't think this couple had a "time out chair" in mind when they bought it. They sounded more like they just wanted something special for their granddaughter at their vacation cottage on the river. They were really thrilled with it. I loved it too but don't have any little girls to sit in it, except my dolls. Ha ha, I was just thinking, I can imaging your granddaughters, if they were anything like their grandmother, they probably needed the "time out chair' a lot! LOL. Ha Ha! Just kidding...well, maybe not. LOL. Love ya!

  6. I enjoyed all the photos - I have that same biscuits and gravy sign and I’m not southern! But my dad and his family were so I was brought up here in California with many of my dad’s Tennessee upbringing. One thing my dad wanted me to learn was how to cook using cast iron and biscuits and pan gravy! Oh and pinto beans- my grandma would call a pot of beans, a “mess of beans” When I start thinking about it, I do have a lot of Tennessee type cooking and recipes that were handed down. Like my grandma’s fodder beans or leather britches!

    Nice post!

    1. Oh my, what are "fodder beans or leather britches"? I guess that must be a Tennessee thing...never heard of them. But yes, the cast iron skillet is best for sausage gravy and biscuits. And I do love pinto beans, but I must confess I mostly just use the canned variety these days. We just can't eat up a "mess of beans" in a timely manner, just the two of us. A little too much for my digestive system... Anyway, I'd love to hear what your grandma's fodder beans and leather britches are! Do tell...

  7. I had the same problem with blogger last night, too! Glad they fixed it!
What a beautiful and blessed visit here with you this morning! I would so love to visit your shop! SO so full of good things!

That food was as delicious looking as it was expensive! I understand that with everything costing more, they must charge more. Louis Dean and I went to a Mexican food restaurant recently that was pretty pricey and we ordered one meal and split it - it was the perfect amount with no leftovers!

What a blessing you are to me!

    1. Oh, Linda, what a sweet thing to say. You are a blessing to me and to all of us who know you here in blogland! I look forward to your posts, although I think I am a bit behind right now. I need to get caught up! Working at the store in the mornings kind of curtails some of my reading and writing time so I get behind. Oh, I would love it if you could come and visit our shop! I would love to visit YOUR "shop"...I see the things in your home and think that would make a lovely place to "shop". You are so very talented and creative. Wish you were closer so you could "create" some things for us to sell in our store!! Meanwhile, I hope you have a blessed and wonderful weekend.

  8. Barbara is so talented, isn't she? I'm so glad y'all can feature some of her creations at Dixie Cottage, Pamela. And the food? Yes, I would have had to take some home, too. Danny and I often choose to split something when we eat out precisely because the portions are too big for just one person.
    Blessings!

    1. Yes, Barbara is a very talented and creative person, and a wonderful friend to know. We have been blessed with so many wonderful people here in our little blogland world. Oh, that breakfast was very good and I did eat the remainder yesterday morning for breakfast. It was still good. Next time, if there is a next time to go to that place, we will split a meal for certain!! Although my hubby doesn't like the same things I like when it comes to omelettes, etc. I like lots of veggies in mine, and he just likes his eggs plain. LOL. Have a wonderful day.

  9. I just love prowling around shops like these! Dixie Cottage would be my very first atop and then if I had any money left, I'd go to another one. The cross stitch is beautiful! My very first sewing machine when I was a teenager was my Aunt Laura's treadle Singer in a cabinet just like that! I wish I still had it but that thing was so heavy! I hope your weekend is lovely.

  10. I am so glad I finally got to visit the Dixie Cottage! Barb's creations are lovely and will all sell, I'm sure! Did her bench sell yet? I looked at it more than once (your picture of it). Your breakfasts both look delicious! It does cost a small fortune to eat out these days but we deserve a treat now and then so go and enjoy it again! It is nice that you can take half home for another meal. Happy weekend, Pam! Love & hugs!

    1. Good Morning, Terri...We are glad you got to visit us at Dixie Cottage too, and that you spent some time with us at Still Waters Pond and our church, etc. That was a fun day! We have another Agape Lunch today...if you hurry you might make it! LOL! Re: Barb's bench...it is still available. I love it and hope it sells soon or I may be tempted to bring it home with me. That's how I feel about just about everything she brought up to sell! They have all been a welcome addition to our store, and I wish I could replace them as they sell because they have been so well received. Thank you again for visiting us here...I do hope you will come again whenever you can, and maybe we can get Barb and Linda to come too! Have a blessed day today. I must get cooking on whatever I am bringing to the potluck!

  11. It was nice to see all the new things at Dixie Cottage, Pam. I also paid a visit to Barbara’s blog and read several of her recent posts. It was so nice that you and John were able to meet up with her and Gary recently.

    1. Thank you, "Beatrice". Maybe someday you all can come back down to Florida and pay us a visit! That would be a lot of fun. I'm glad you also "met" Barbara over at her blog. Her life is in a bit of transition right now, but she is one of the dearest people I've been blessed to meet...and her new hubby Gary is really sweet. They only live about an hour from us, so we hope to meet again sometime. Take care and enjoy your autumn leaf walk today! I hope you have pleasant weather for it.

  12. I've never tried chocolate gravy and biscuits, nor do I think it would be something that I would want to try. LOL. Somehow that just doesn't sound right to me. LOL. But biscuits and gravy here in the south usually means sausage gravy, which is a milk gravy with bits of cooked sausage in it poured over biscuits...now that IS good! I cook the sausage first and crumble it up (patties), and then after draining off the grease, add flour to the pan and then milk and the crumbled sausage and cook till the gravy is thickened. Add pepper for some extra flavor. It is a southern staple for breakfast! LOL.

  13. I really wish I lived nearby to go into the store. The items are just so beautiful. I have a Singer machine just like that one. My grandfather was a tailor and he used it for that.
Thank you for sharing all of these photos.
