Tuesday 4 and More

Here it is the first day of March already!!! Where did February go?  I guess it is "Gone with the Wind"!
As I turned the page on my calendar, I see this lady working in her garden already.  The cat is sleeping in the wheelbarrow, and the Robin is sitting in the tree, probably laughing at the cat and saying "He can't get me!"

I would  love to have a garden shed like this, but I probably wouldn't fill it with gardening things...that would be my sister's shed. (Especially since it has daffodils around it, her favorite flower!)  I just would like to have my own "she-shed" to "play in".  Maybe I could be inspired to do more gardening...or maybe inspired to make it a painting or writing studio...who knows?

Anyway, seeing that lazy cat reminds me that we've had a very "active cat" in our yard lately, stalking our birds every morning. He loves to lay under the birdfeeder and just wait and see if any birds dare to come that close to him.  I keep trying to shoo him away, but he just gets up and saunters toward me, meowing as if we know each other and we should be friends!  Well, I do like cats, but not neighborhood cats who have no business in my yard preying on my birdies.  I won't be mean to him, so don't worry, but I really don't want him there.  I'm not sure who he belongs to or even if he does belong to anyone. He just kind of wanders around the neighborhood, but he looks well fed and healthy, so someone must be taking care of him. I would just prefer that he didn't wander into my yard and under my birdfeeders!  Okay, rant over! LOL.

March Weather or Not!

Welcome back to another Tuesday 4 in honor of Toni Taddeo it's founder.

They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.
Sometimes it is the reverse. March has a
lot of happenings like March 1st the start of Mardi Gras, the 13th is Daylight Savings Time, the Ides of March on the 15th, St Patrick's Day on the 17th, the first day of Spring on the 20th this year March 29-31 are the "borrowing days" when weather is traditionally rough or stormy.

1. Do you celebrate Mardi Gras or St. Patrick's Day and how do you celebrate them?
I have never celebrated Mardi Gras nor have I ever been to New Orleans. Doesn't sound like something I would enjoy much.  But now St. Patrick's Day is a little different.  We always are certain to wear something green so we don't get "pinched"...and although I don't always cook any corned beef and cabbage on that day, I certainly won't turn it down if offered.

2. Do you decorate for the spring in any way at all?

Yes, I do decorate for spring. I usually put a spring wreath on the front door and some kind of spring flowers on the table and around the kitchen area.  For St. Patrick's Day I like to have a little extra "green" in the decorations.  And I bring out my little Madame Alexander dolls from Ireland to add to the decor.

And last year was the first time we had Lily Grace to add to the festivities...

Of course I also decorate for Easter as we get a little closer to it, but since that isn't until April, we will save that for later.

3. Daylight savings time doesn't make the day longer. Experts say it puts kids heath at risk as well as contribute to heart problems for adults. Arizona and Hawaii don't change times. It began as "war time" so war workers in WW2 could come home in the light. What about you though? Are you happy to see it return or not?

I really am not too thrilled with the time change each spring and fall. It always takes me more than a week for my body time clock to make the adjustments. However, I do enjoy the longer hours of daylight in the summer. It gives us more time to take evening walks when it isn't quite as hot, or do some yard work after supper. But that's about the only good thing about it that I can see. I'd be just as happy if they left it alone.

4. How has the weather been in your neck of the woods as March approaches. What would be your ideal for weather?

Well, this past week was beautiful. Cooler mornings and warm, sunny afternoons, but not too humid or hot yet.  Today was different...cloudy and chilly and we finally got some much needed rain. It will be a little cooler tomorrow, and then I think it will warm up again as the week progresses. Here in Florida March can be a little mixture of everything...rainy, chilly, warm, sunny...and yes, it is usually windy too.
My ideal weather would be 50's-60's in the morning, and 70's up to 80 in the afternoon, with sunshine and breezes and low humidity. But we can't leave out the rain. Our flowers and trees and grass and even Still Waters Pond depend upon the rain to grow and be healthy!

Speaking of Still Waters Pond...on Sunday morning I woke up early in the morning feeling extremely dizzy. So dizzy that I literally got a little sick to my tummy, so I had to stay home from church. I went back to bed and slept a while longer, laying very still to keep the room from spinning around.  Finally when I woke up again I was not quite so dizzy thankfully, and I managed to get up and have a cup of tea and went and sat in  a recliner in front of the glass doors looking out over the pond. It was kind of a foggy morning, and it was as if God orchestrated the birds to put on a show for me so I could enjoy sitting there watching them.  Here's a few pictures that I managed to take.

Yes, the bluebirds were very actively working on building their nest in the bird house...
Well, Mr. Bluebird was standing guard while Mrs. Bluebird was busily building the nest...

The Ring Necked Ducks were swimming and bobbing up and down in the water, having a great time. Thankfully they were closer to shore where I could see them a bit better:

The female is the brown one on the left, and the male is the black and white one on the right.

There are lots and lots of these little birds...is this a warbler of some kind? Please tell me if you know:

Oh, there's a striking pose by Mr. Bluebird:

He is a handsome fellow, isn't he?

Mr. Squirrel was resting in the tree for a while, but usually he was chasing his brothers (or sisters) around through the trees and then also raiding the birdfeeders every chance he could:

Now, I am assuming these are Goldfinches in their winter plumage, which is not as bright as their spring and summer colors. But then again, I'm not sure. If you know for sure what these are, please tell me:

Mr. Red Bellied Woodpecker came knocking...

And playing "peek-a-boo"...

There were two of them, but I am not sure which is which:

And last but not least, Mr. Cardinal came calling too...Isn't he gorgeous against the foggy and diamond studded  background?

Yes, I thought this was a marvelous display of beauty from God's creation...just for me!  What a blessing. I certainly started feeling better after watching these lovely creatures...

Then I listened to our choir singing "Heaven Came Down and Glory Filled My Soul", which we pre-recorded last week, followed by our Pastor's Sermon from Luke 9:28-36, on the "Transfiguration of Christ":

I felt like "heaven came down" and filled my soul with God's glory as I watched the birds and thought about how much He loves us.  Here's the words to the song if you want to sing along:

"O what a wonderful, wonderful day, day I will never forget
After I’d wandered in darkness away, Jesus my Savior I met
O what a tender, compassionate friend, He met the need of my heart
Shadows dispelling, with joy I am telling, He made all the darkness depart!

Heaven came down and glory filled my soul. When at the cross the Savior made me whole.
My sins were washed away, and my night was turned to day.
Heaven came down and glory filled by soul!

Born of the Spirit with life from above, into God’s family divine
Justified fully thro’ Calvary’s love, O what a standing is mine
And the transaction so quickly was made when as a sinner I came
Took of the offer of grace He did proffer
He saved me, O praise His dear name!

Heaven came down and glory filled my soul. When at the cross the Savior made me whole.
My sins were washed away, and my night was turned to day.
Heaven came down and glory filled by soul!

Now I’ve a hope that will surely endure after the passing of time
I have a future in heaven for sure, there is those mansions sublime.
And it’s because of that wonderful day when at the cross I believed
Riches eternal and blessings supernal
From His precious hand I received.

Heaven came down and glory filled my soul. When at the cross the Savior made me whole.
My sins were washed away, and my night was turned to day.
Heaven came down and glory filled by soul!"

I hope you enjoyed this visit today, and that you also enjoyed watching the birds with me. What a joy and blessing.  And yes, I am feeling mostly better, but I think I have some sinusitis or something of that nature brought on by allergies and the pollen, which is becoming quite "active" right now, both pine pollen and oak pollen, among many others.   So I am taking allergy medicine and trying to stay indoors away from the pollen as much as possible.  That is one of the downsides of spring here in Florida, but without the pollen, there would be no lovely trees, flowers, grasses, etc., so we have to take the good with the bad.

Okay, now, please go over to "Tuesday 4" and see who else has something to share. Happy Springtime!

    1. Yes, pollen season is a bit messy, with yellow pine pollen all over everything outside. If you are allergic, be sure to stock up on your allergy meds. I take a "loratidine", (which is generic for Claritin) each day, and it helps. I am feeling better...not dizzy at least, thank the Lord! Maybe by the time you get here the pollen will be gone so you have time to get re-acclimated before next spring! Happy March 1st! It won't be long now!!!

  2. I love your bird photos. They are all so colourful. What a wonderful display for you when you weren't feeling well. I haven't been feeling well for a few days myself (dizzy, nauseated and just not too good). The symptoms haven't been constant and I'm feeling better. Take care Pamela. Hugs.xx

    1. Thank you, Penny. I am sorry to hear that you are also dizzy, etc. Do you have allergies? The dizziness brought on the nausea for me, and my sinuses are being affected by the pollen, I am sure. I take an allergy medication every day and that seems to be helping. I do hope you are feeling better and that it is something that can be easily treated. Praying for you. (((Hugs)))

  3. The pollen is beginning to hit here also. Achoo!
I have been watching a pair of bluebirds nesting somewhere in the side yard, but I have not found exactly where yet. I think it is some muscadine vines.
I hope you are feeling much better now!

    1. Oh, how wonderful that you have some Bluebirds too! Maybe you should consider putting up a birdhouse where you can watch them...maybe before next spring since they seem to have already found a place for this year. They are such fun to watch. Yes, I am feeling better...just having to deal with seasonal allergies I guess. Hope you have a wonderful week.

  4. Your illness certainly does sound like allergies, Pamela. We aren't quite there yet here in Georgia, but certainly will be soon with spring upon us. Get to feeling better!
Yes, I do believe those are goldfinches in the photos, all of which are stunning! Birds are so much fun to watch, aren't they? I do hope that visiting cat minds his manners, too.
    Blessings!

    1. The birds have been very active today as well. They have been so much fun to watch. I think quite a few are migrating birds who are passing through on their way back up north, so be watching for them to head your way soon! Yes, the cat mostly just sits and watches, but should some poor little birdie be caught unaware on the ground, I would be quite unhappy with that cat! I guess I need to mind my own business and let nature mind its business too. LOL. Take care and have a wonderful day.

  5. Pam: Thanks to you, I realized that Daylight Savings time is mid-March rather than early March, at least this year. I don't especially like the change-over. It takes me longer than a week to adjust. Last November when the time "sprung back", I chose not to change our digital clock in our car. My thinking was it was a difficult thing for me to go through and "in a few months, I will have to change it back." Hubby understood, so that was all right with him. Peace and blessings.

    1. I am not looking forward to the "spring forward" of DLS, because that "lost hour of sleep" seems to take forever to get over. I don't blame you for not changing your car clock. I know those are a pain to change, just so you can remember what the real time is! I don't rely on our car clock all that much anyway. I still wear a wristwatch. Of course, that has to be changed too! Oh well, such is life! I guess it's good brain exercises for us. Have a blessed day my friend, no matter what time it is! xoxoxo

  6. Gosh, I'm sorry to hear about your dizzy episode. Scary stuff, but it's good to see (above) the meds seem to help. Ours has been a difficult morning, so I'm feeling blessed by this song. Thank you!

  7. I'm not sure why but I remember on St. Patrick's Day in high school we would wear read if we were not Irish. Your decorations are lovely. I like the longer hours of daylight too! I love all of the photos of the birds. So beautiful.

    1. Thank you, Debby. I don't remember anyone wearing red on St. Patrick's Day. Everyone pretty much wore green at my school, so they wouldn't get pinched, whether or not they were Irish! LOL.

  8. You had quite a show with all the birds this past Sunday!!!! I hope the dizzy spell is truly a thing of the past now. I've had some of that in years past. It's quite disconcerting.

But back to the bird show -- you really captured them well!!

    1. Thank you, Barbara. The dizziness seems to be gone, but I do have some sinus/allergy issues. Hopefully once the pollen goes away I will be in better shape. Just need to remember to take some allergy medicine on a regular basis until then. Glad you enjoyed the bird show! They've been very active this week. Must be passing through on their way back "home". Take care and enjoy your happy days!!

    1. Thank you, Terri! I've missed you too! But you've been having a good time with your friends, and for that I am most thankful. God has blessed you with wonderful people around you in so many places. God is so good. And yes, I am feeling better now. Very thankful to be upright and taking nourishment, as the old folks say. LOL. Have a wonderful day!

  10. I looked at that calender illustration and imagined my great-grandmother. My mom has the bonnet that lady wore to work in the garden and it looks very much like the one in the picture except that it is calico, I think. It's been a while since I've seen it. Your little St. Patrick's Day scene is darling and those tea cups! Beautiful! As are all your photos of the birds. I think you and my Nana would have been great friends. :)

    1. Oh, how wonderful to have the bonnet of your great-grandmother! What a treasure!! It ought to be framed or displayed where it can be enjoyed! I think you should put it on and model it for us! I bet I would have loved your "Nana". What was her name? I still think we're related somehow way back. Well, I guess we all go back to Adam...LOL. Have a blessed and beautiful day my friend.

    1. Thank you, Vee. Yeah, I don't much like vertigo...I guess I'm just a "dizzy dame". LOL. I am better today and am very thankful to be upright and sipping my morning cup of tea and watching more birds out the window already! Have a blessed and beautiful day. Do you still have snow on the ground? I imagine you do. I remember having snow on the ground in Maine and NH until May! Take care and stay warm and cozy. Love your new pic.

  12. I have a tea cup and saucer that match your Lily of the Valley tea pot and whatever that is in front. Mine is by Shelley of England (fine bone china). Is yours the same? // The story we were told back in the 1960s, and still in statements today, by the regional extension offices was that the time changes were made for the agricultural folks ... more daylight to work and harvest the fields in the spring and summer. I've always wished they would pick one or the other time and stick with it. The politicians always bring it up every year but nothing is ever done about it. *sigh* The more light we have, the happier I am, for sure! (More gardening time, don'tcha know. *wink*) // My husband and I have been bird lovers for all our marriage ... we would sit ourdoors until way past dark and listen/watch them. I especially love the cardinals, always have. I have a ton of bird photos, also! I should post some of them once in a while. Have a lovely and blessed week, Pam!

    1. Good Morning!! Oh, I would love to see your tea cup and saucer! You need to post a picture! My little mini tea-pot is by Staffordshire of England, fine bone china also. My sister gave it to me because I collect teapots, and she often gives me little mini ones, which I love. Oh, and YES, you SHOULD post pictures of your birds! My goodness!! What are you waiting for? Daylight Savings Time? LOL. Have a great day my friend.

  13. Oh I love that song!!!! One of my favs. Pam, I do hope that you are feeling much better. The first thing I thought when reading your dizzy spells was vertigo. I had that once. Only once and that was enough! I had a friend though that went through a heck of a time with it. It is crazy! I am ready to clean out my little potting area, repot, plant new and dig in the dirt. Maybe soon. I hope the rest of your week is wonderful to you. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  14. Lovely bird photos. Pollen is a pain. Flowers in spring, grass in summer, trees in fall and leaf mold. Always something to make us sneeze isn't there?
We had a 70F day last week but now its back to winter to finish up the season. I am not sure what planting I will get done as I can't do much with my back as it is, but I have so much I'd love to do.

  15. I did enjoy your birdie pictures. The spring season has hit my sinuses a wee bit this year as well. I usually don't have it nearly as bad as others so it is heavy for sure. I am looking forward to the springy days. I love the longer days of summer but I have never fared well with the time change in the fall especially. It takes me so long to adjust. It messes with my sleep so much especially as I grow older. I don't think we will ever go back to not changing it but it sure is hard to adjust and kids have a hard time just like us.
