Good Afternoon Friends! Here it is Friday already, and I haven't posted any Friday Fotos for my friends yet! Sorry! I was hoping to have more to share than what I do have, but it just didn't come together, so it is what it is. I'll keep watching out my room with a view while I write, and if I see anything photo-worthy, I will let you know. Meanwhile, here's what I've got:
Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!
What Do You See Outside YOUR Open Window Today?

Friday Foto Friends...I'm a bit late!
A few days ago, while on our morning walk, I was enjoying the remaining wild plum blossoms on the trees scattered about through the wooded lots...
Hard to believe something so beautiful would be growing on something that looks like this:
I call this the Isaiah 61:3 tree...
"To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
Rather fitting, don't you agree?
Yes, it is still February,
And I expect for most of you reading this it may still look a lot more like this:
And really and truly, even here in Florida it doesn't quite look like this yet:
But I do love that picture, don't you? Looks like a garden of hope and serenity and peace...
(I love this Thomas Kinkade calendar, and was surprised when I opened it up that it had these wonderful Bible verses on each page!)
But today it is 81 degrees here in Florida, (and I just heard our AC kick on) and here's what's actually growing in my "secret memorial garden" right now...these little azalea bushes that I planted last year had these buds on them the other day when we were expecting that big freeze. So my son covered them up for me with old sheets so they wouldn't get frozen...
And here is how they look today:
Here's a close up...aren't they sweet little ruffled edged azaleas? I love them so much and am so happy we were able to save them from getting frozen:
Although azaleas are pretty hearty and usually do weather the bad the weather fairly well...but I'm glad we took care of them.
However, we are expecting a cold front to move in tonight, with a lot of rain and the temperatures will drop down in the low 40's over night and our high tomorrow will be around 63, so "old man winter" isn't quite done for us yet either. I know that's no consolation for those of you digging out from under a couple of feet of snow today...I'm sorry. But I hope you enjoy the pictures anyway.
Now, the other day I saw this over around the bend in Still Waters Pond, and that's about how it looked to me without my zoom lens. I actually thought it might be that alligator that someone said he saw in our pond (but that I've never seen or heard and doubt seriously the veracity of his discovery)...I mean it does kind of look like an alligator sunning himself on an old broken down dock...
So I zoomed in and focused my camera a bit better, and this is what it was:
Just a shadow and old dark wood. No alligator! Whew! I am quite relieved!! But isn't it funny how our eyes can play tricks on us and make us believe things that may not be totally correct?
Now, if you focus your eyes really closely on this picture, you just might see two Canada Geese flying over Still Waters Pond early this morning, and you would be correct:
They were moving so fast that they are just a blur of wings and bodies, but they were sure making a racket, yelling out their goose call as they flew over the house and away for the day to wherever they go and then come back here again at night. I waved at them as they flew over the top of our house. I think they actually did wave back...but then again, my eyes could have deceived me a little bit. LOL.
Okay, let's shift gears a bit. Some of you may be wondering how my appointment at the Orthopedic Doctor's office was yesterday. Well, it was interesting and good. He did confirm that I do have "Adhesive Capsulitis" of the right shoulder, A.K.A. "Frozen Shoulder". My options were to just keep going to PT and see if it gets better, or to have a shot of cortisone in the shoulder right then and there to see if that will help, but still continue the PT. I opted to go ahead and have the shot, which was very interesting. In fact, it was so interesting I thought you might want to see for yourself:
This was the ultrasound picture of my shoulder and muscle area where he injected the shot, while watching the needle go in on the ultrasound. I was able to watch it too, and it really didn't hurt much at all. As a matter of fact, if you read the Dr.'s notes above that I included, you will see that he said "The patient tolerated the procedure well." I wish I could say the pain in my shoulder went away right away and that everything is just great, but it will still take some time to do its work. I am trying to be a good patient.
So, since I was such a good girl, hubby rewarded me with a trip to the local Cracker Barrel for lunch since we were already pretty close to it (and also because we had a gift card for it that was a Christmas gift).
Thursday's special was turkey and dressing and sweet potato casserole, with cranberry sauce! That's what I had, and it sure was good. Hubby had the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. He said it was good too.
But what I was more interested in was his plate! Look at that beautiful blue and white flowered plate! I've never seen that one before at Cracker Barrel, and I don't know how he rated to have such a pretty plate when mine was such a plain old white restaurant ware boring plate! I looked around at other tables and didn't see anyone else with this beautiful plate!
Maybe the effect of the steroids were already affecting me, but I just had to have another picture of that plate! LOL. This was after he finished eating, sorry it's kind of messy, but that was the best I could do without a dishcloth! LOL.
I actually considered asking the waitress if I could just take it home with me, but that would have been a little too crazy, even for me. I did look at the bottom of it to see where it came from...it's a Corona Hotelware plate, made in Colombia. I looked online and couldn't find this exact same thing, but what I did find was too expensive to even consider, so that's that. I don't need another plate anyway...but I just really liked this plate! LOL.
Okay, I think I've finally come to the end of my pictures for today.
I hope you enjoyed this little walk through the garden and around the pond and even into the Doctor's office with me, but most of all this lovely dirty blue and white plate! LOL. I need to come up with something better for a more suitable ending to this post...
Oh, I almost forgot!
I know you've seen pictures of my kitchen cabinets many times before (and you see why I like blue and white dishes, btw). Well anyway, yesterday afternoon one of these lovely cabinet doors almost killed me...well, not quite, but it was a very close call!
I opened up this door to put some dishes away, and the glass panel fell out almost on top of my head and landed on the counter below and did not even break!
(this picture shows it being held in place by a clamp after being glued back to the door)
It was a very close call! If that glass had hit me in the face and broke, it could have been quite a terrible thing. As it was, it landed on my sweet little birdie that was sitting there so innocently with her lovely spring bonnet, and it broke off her tail completely! Thankfully it was a clean break, and I was able to super glue it back on and she is just fine now and so thankful to be back in one piece.
And I am very very thankful that the glass did not break over my head or on my face or hands...it could have been quite disastrous. I praise God for His protection over me, and it reminds me that
"His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me". The little "sparrow" did get hurt, but not mortally. He was fixable. And this "little sparrow", me, did not get hurt, not even a scratch, and I praise God for sparing me what could have been terrible. And after some super silicone glue to reattach the glass to the door, and one of my hubby's super clamps, the door is as good as new today. Praise God for small miracles!!!
Okay, that's all folks. I hope you have a blessed and wonderful weekend. Stay warm and safe.

Your photos are lovely!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were not injured during the glass incident.
If I owned a restaurant I would go to garage sales and buy old pretty dishes, then have every plate at a table be different. It would not work for somewhere like Cracker Barrel though.
Thank you, Anne. Yes, I love old vintage plates, and I've kind of had that goal for my own home...every plate different. I am always looking for good vintage bargains at the thrift stores and flea market. But I was really surprised to see that at Cracker Barrel. I don't know if they used to sell this set of dishes in their store or not, I've never seen it before. But what I did find was beyond my reach. Oh well...it was fun looking at it. Made for some interesting dinner conversation while we ate. LOL. Have a blessed day.
DeleteI love this post, Pamela. Keeping in prayer in regard to your shoulder. OH, and that plate is quite lovely. smiles
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda. for the prayers and for the love! I'm glad you liked the plate too, even if it did have gravy smeared all over it. LOL. Now you are getting a glimpse of the real me. Can't wait to meet you in person. You may turn around and run back to NY! LOL. No, I doubt that. I'm not that crazy! LOL. Take care and stay warm today.
DeleteI can't get over how many gorgeous blossoms are already appearing in your landscape, Pam, and we're only in February! Ah, the benefits of living in Florida . . . Take good care of that azalea with the colder temps on the way. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd what a great report from the doctor! I'm here to vouch that steroids do help, although they can affect some swelling (for me, in my ankles) and disrupt sleep, but the relief is well worth the temporary inconvenience. Keep up that PT, and keep getting better by the day, my friend.
Oh, and glad God spared His wonderful sparrow - YOU!
Blessings!
Thank you, Martha. Oh, the steroid is starting to help now. I can feel a difference...but my face is quite flushed and hot and I've been a little hyper...but even that is better this morning (so far). I am very thankful for any relief I can get for my shoulder, and pray this will help it to heal. And yes, praise God for His eye being on the sparrow...both of us! Take care my friend!
DeleteMy eyes play tricks on me all the time! Your Scott sounds like such a helpmate, insuring those azaleas survive! I'm encouraged you elected to do the cortisone shot without incident. I remember whussing out for so long, my doctor was becoming quite impatient. That's something about John's special dinner plate! I remember there being a popular restaurant in Lake Wales (Chalet Suzanne) in the 70's that served meals on different china patterns. I never had occasion to visit, but I guess it was quite the thing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Myra. Yes, Scott is a sweetheart, when I can lasso him long enough to help. He works long hours and comes home tired, but he's very good to help any way he can. I was so glad the Dr. offered to do the shot right then and there. If I'd had to make another trip back I might have given up. I was so happy to get it over with! AND, so glad to go eat at Cracker Barrel as a reward! yes, the dinner plate was quite a topic of conversation, at least for me. John just rolls his eyes when I start taking pictures of our food and dishes. He's a good sport. Hope you are having a great day. Stay warm!
DeleteOh my, Pam! Thank goodness the glass didn't break and cause more damage to you and your lovely things. Glad birdie was able to "grow back" his tail feathers! I always love your photos! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri! Yes, I am very thankful to have escaped that near tragedy. God was definitely looking out for me...and the damage to birdie was fixable and she is good as new. But it was amazing that glass did not break or even hit the floor (or me). God is good. I hope you are having a peaceful and enjoyable weekend. It's supposed to rain here and get cold again. I think we have already had our high for the day and it is going down as we speak. Glad I kept the flannel sheets on the bed! LOL.
DeleteThank you, Linda. I'm glad you enjoyed a little "spring vacation" here today. But your snow is so pretty, at least I know it is when it first comes down. So enjoy the beauty while it lasts! Yes, I love Cracker Barrel too, but it is about an hour away from us, so I am happy we could go while we were there for the Dr. appt. Otherwise I would never have been able to use my gift card! And yes, I am SO thankful the cabinet door glass just seem to bounce away from me, and even though it hit poor widdle birdie, she is fine now, and all is well. God is good, and I am SO thankful! Have a lovely day, and try to stay warm and cozy. We are having another cold front move in today, and we've already had our high for the day of 51. It's going to be in the 40's the rest of the day, which is cold for us during the day! But, no snow! Just rain and clouds today. Take care and have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late. I started to comment and began to feel unwell. I'm OK now.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. Y'all are about a month or so ahead of us with the flowers. I can't wait for us to start wakin' up.
Have a great Saturday!
Love & Blessings. xx
I hope you feel better now. I am sorry you were "unwell". I've been praying for your mother in law and your husband too. Wondering how she is doing. It's been a chilly, windy day. Good day to stay indoors. Somehow the rain bypassed us, however. Just a little shower this morning. We could have used the rain. Oh well...I'm not complaining. Thankful for what we do have. God is good.
DeleteWow! What a thing to have happen. God's protection is evident!
ReplyDeleteI would not have been able to watch the procedure and the needle...oh mercy! Heavens, no. Hope that it
works well for you and that you get some relief.
Did you not ask the waitress about the blue plate? Now that I could have done! 😉
You would not believe what my February calendar page is. I think the calendar must have been for the South American market.
Yes, God's protection is evident. I am so thankful for that blessing. And actually I couldn't see the needle as he was behind me, but I could watch the computer screen and see the ultrasound and could tell when the needle went in, but it really didn't hurt. I was surprised. Just a little "prick" and it was over, and today I am starting to feel much better. A little hyper from the cortisone, but not as much pain, so I am very thankful. No, I didn't ask the waitress for the plate. I already had to ask her for lemons for the tea, jelly for the biscuits and a to-go box and the bill. She was very busy, so I didn't want to trouble her any further. I was tempted to wrap the plate up in my napkins and put it in my bag, however. LOL. But my better side prevailed and I managed to get over that temptation. Shew! That was a close one! LOL. Enjoy your February, and pretend you are in the South American market...LOL. Have a blessed day.
DeleteEnjoyed all of your pictures. I broke my shoulder -- fall in my living room! -- a few years ago and went through several months of physical therapy. It was helpful, but then went back to strength training at the gym and that worked magic. Seriously, and I got back my range of motion. On second thought, not magic, but with hard work, an answer to prayer. Prayers for your shoulder.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Buttercup! I can imagine that fall/broken shoulder was VERY painful. My little experience here with a frozen shoulder is painful enough. I would hate to go through what you did. We just don't realize how much we depend on our shoulders and arms to get through our daily living. Thank you for the prayers. That is the best thing!!
DeleteIsaiah 61 has a special meaning for me.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you call the tree that?
Well, if you look at the ground under the tree, you will see there are burned boards on the ground. There is the foundation for an old house (or trailer) there, and there are ashes and burnt logs around the bottom of that tree. "Beauty for ashes...oil of joy for mourning..."...I love that verse because I've experienced God's beauty for ashes and oil of joy for mourning and garment of praise for heaviness...God is always faithful to give us that after the storm or the fire...Does that answer your question. I guess I should have expounded on that further above. Sometimes I like to leave things open to suggestion or discussion...and you took the bait. Thank you.
DeleteSpending time with you is always interesting. You find so many fun things to see. I love seeing those glimpses of spring. Nothing like that here for a while yet, but I am daily praising God for all the snow. Snow means moisture later and we need that. I’ve had two cortisone shots in my shoulder. The first one helped some and the second one took the pain away. Now I was told I might need another one some months down the road. Have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize you were having trouble with your shoulder too. Is it frozen? Do you do any kind of physical therapy or exercises? I am trying to remind myself to do them every day while the cortisone is helping it to not hurt so much. I was reading about frozen shoulder, and it said sometimes it may take a year or more to totally go away...but in the meantime the shot certainly does help...but therapy is a good idea too. I am glad you are getting so much snow, even if it is cold! It certainly is beautiful, and you are getting such lovely photos. I enjoy seeing them. Take care and stay warm!!
DeleteSuch a great collection of photos Pamela! Even in the focused shot that wood looks like some kind of crazy creature. Your little azaleas are beautiful, makes me miss all of mine when I lived in Ocala. I wish they would grow where I am now. Same for the Redbud trees. That last incident was such a close call and so scary. You would think there would be some kind of little things holding those glass panes in place!
ReplyDeleteOur weather has been crazy. I had our AC running this week too and then expected some beautiful Florida winter weather today, but nope, chilly and gray. Hopefully we will get some nice spring weather soon and when we do I hope it will stick around for a while!
Have a great weekend!
Thank you, Martha. Yes, it does still look like a crazy creature out there...but that's what makes life interesting! LOL. Yeah, the only thing holding those glass panes in place is silicone glue. I try to to keep a watch on them to see if any are coming loose, but that one snuck up on me. So thankful it didn't break on me!! Yes, our weather is crazy right now. 49 this morning and drizzling rain, so it will be a raw day. But spring is right around the corner. We are blessed to live in Florida!! So nice to hear from you! Hope you are having a great weekend.
Deletebeautiful pictures I am so sorry about your shoulder (mine did that and got the shot, it took about 2 days for it to work, and boy did it feel good. I had a fall 2 weeks ago and think I messed my shoulder again can't get in to the dr for another 4 weeks. Those dishes are beautiful. I am so ready for SUMMER to get here. I posted the color version of the pic that you requested.
ReplyDeleteOh no, I hope you didn't do any real damage to your shoulder after you just had surgery on it? I would think they would want to work you in to check it...have you called them to see? I can't get to your blog to see the color version of what you posted. I am sorry about your blog being locked. I hope it can be restored.
Deletesomething has happened I can't access my blog :( I have reached out to help to see if they can help me revover. Can you PLEASE make a post for me that I am locked out or do you know how I can revover gatorsgal71482@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteOh dear...I don't know what to tell you to do. I just went to your profile site and it looks totally different. I guess the best thing to do would be to contact blogger and find out what happened. I will make mention of your being locked out in my next post, but that won't be until probably this afternoon as I have to get ready this morning for Sunday School and Church. I am so sorry this has happened. I hope it can be rectified..
Deletehello, this is Gina (I had to use Gary's email to get into my blog sigh. but thankfully I was able to use his email. I may copy it all to a new blog? sorry to bother you. Yes I called the dr, but due to the weather I will call them on Monday to see if we can get something.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you were able to get into your blog. I did actually get over to see the posts with the color picture that you did, so it is still available to me to see. I hope the problem can be resolved without losing everything. And I hope the Dr. will see you soon. You don't want to wait too long! Praying for you now.
DeleteThank you, sweet friend. I got into Garys blogger, and gave myself access back as administrator it was very weird. I am back again. I am going to give a few other people access just in case this happens again. Thank you once again
DeleteThose special plates at Cracker Barrel are used for specific meals -- like the hamburger steak, maple bacon grilled chicken, and the country vegetable plate. I don't know why they use them for some meals and not others, but I first noticed this at Cracker Barrel in Salt Lake City, UT when several of us ordered the maple bacon grilled chicken.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you were able to get a cortisone shot. Will pray that it works well for you.
That is interesting to know about Cracker Barrel! I've never seen those plates before, but apparently we haven't ordered the right meal to get them until now! Thank you for that bit of info! Thank you for the prayers for the effects of the cortisone shot. So far it does seem to be helping and I am very thankful. I just need to do the exercises while I am relatively "pain free". Hopefully between the two I will truly get well. Thank you again! Hope you are keeping warm!
DeleteYour pink blooms were all lovely to see, Pam. The blue plate did seem unusual and it was lovely. Sure hopt the shot and continued PT will help your shoulder in time, but sometimes patience can be so hard. You were sure lucky not only that the glass panel didn’t hit you and also that it didn’t break. That said, the glass panels look lovely.
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful to hear from you! I woke up thinking it is pretty chilly here in FL. right now, and I told you it would be warm! I hope you brought some warmer clothes and that you are having a good time. Yes, I am trying to be patient with my shoulder, and I am very thankful the shot is helping already. I just need to do the exercises now. And yes, I am very thankful that glass panel didn't break on me or anywhere else. The little birdie is all fixed now too and she took the "fall" for me. I am very grateful. God is good. Have a good time!
DeleteI have never seen such a pretty plate at Cracker Barrel and I think I have eaten at CB's since I was 20! Ask the manager, "Will you sell me a blue and white plate?" He just might! I am so glad the pane of glass did not land on you or shatter. And that the shot did not hurt too much going in. I used to be able to get relief within a few hours with cortisone shots to the knees. But how I hated the shots. When they work, they are fantastic. I hope they will work for you! Love the azalea blooms.
ReplyDeleteOh, Holly! It is so good to hear from you! I've been wondering how you were doing! Yes, I guess I should have been brave enough to ask about the plate, but I guess it's their "blue plate special", and they probably don't want to give them away. It made for some good dinner conversation and some blogger fill. LOL. Oh, yes, I am SO thankful the glass pane did not break, and especially that it did not break on me!! God had His little angels guiding that glass away from me. I was sorry my little birdie got broken, but she's all fixed now and just as happy as any birdie could be sitting on my counter with a spring bonnet on her head! And yes, the cortisone shot is working now...my pain is much less than it was, so I am trying to do my exercises and get this shoulder moving like it should. I just have to be patient and also diligent to do the exercises. I'm glad the azalea blossoms brightened your day. It is so good to hear from you!
