Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!
What Do You See Outside YOUR Open Window Today?

What's Next?
Yesterday I was surprised to see this Sand Hill Crane standing all alone in our Still Waters Pond.
It is very unusual to see one alone. They are usually seen with their mate close by. This one kept looking back toward the shore, as if he was listening and watching for someone to join him.
But the longer he stood there, the more apparent it became that there was no one else coming.
Finally he started moving on across the pond, as if he was in a hurry to go somewhere.
As he reached the other end of the shore, he stopped and stood at attention, again listening and watching and waiting. I wondered if he was listening for a call from his mate, telling him where she was or that she was waiting for him on the other side. I didn't hear any sound...and if there had been any it would have been quite distinct....if you've ever heard their call, you would know what I mean.
But he stood there listening intently, as if he could hear something that I could not. And then, suddenly (before I could get my camera focused of course), he flapped his mighty wings and lifted himself up and flew away in a hurry.
Today, being another Sunday that we cannot join together in person with our dear church family, my heart and mind is tuned in to worship. I was thinking about this Sand Hill Crane standing there alone on the shore, waiting and listening for a call from his mate...and I thought about the church...and about myself personally. It is as if we are all standing and waiting, listening for God's voice to give us directions for our next step. We've been set apart for a little while, and we are getting anxious to get back into action together as The Body of Christ.
But before we can come back together, my heart tells me we need to be listening for God's voice in our own personal lives.
We need to be seeking His direction, and preparing our hearts for the "what's next".
I was reading in Isaiah 6, and the verse that stood out in particular for me this morning is
Isaiah 6:8
"Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:
"Whom shall I send,
and who will go for Us?"
Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."
Also I was reading in the Gospel of John 20:19-23, when Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection, and in verse 19 it tells us that "the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, and Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them,
"Peace be with you."
And then in verse 21, Jesus said to them again:
"Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you."
22. "And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them,
"Receive the Holy Spirit."
Jesus gave the disciples a command in Matthew 28:19-20 to:
"Go therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you;
and lo,
I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Amen.
We have this commission to go. We've been resting and waiting and hopefully preparing our hearts for the "what's next". God has work for us to do when we come back together. The way things are going in this world, we may not have much time left to keep sharing the Gospel freely.
This little song came to mind this morning as I was sitting here thinking about these things, and this is the prayer of my heart today. What about you? It may help us to figure out the "What's Next?" question as we ponder and pray and LISTEN for God's voice.
Here I Am, Lord, Is It I, Lord?
Praying you have a blessed and beautiful SONday. Let us not forget Whose day this is.
It is the Lord's Day.
Amen.

Another beautiful post my friend. What's next? I don't know.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a beautiful and peaceful day in warm and sunny Florida, grin.
You may not know the answer to the "what's next" yet, but God has a plan for your life, and in the fullness of time, He will reveal it to you. Stay focused on your goal of getting your papers done, etc., and before you know it you will be on your way to something wonderful. There IS light at the end of this tunnel, and no, it's not a train! Have a blessed day.
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful ❤️
DeleteHOPE you have a happy, blessed SONday, dear Lady!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debbie. It has been very happy and blessed and peaceful. God is Good, all the time, God is good!
DeleteWhat a great analogy you have drawn here, Pamela, with the lone sand hill crane and our current isolation from one another as the Body of Christ. Yes, I've been asking for weeks now, "What's next?" As days roll into days without anything on the calendar to speak of, I wonder and I listen for God's instructions.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed Sunday!
In the fullness of HIS time, He will show us the "what' next". It is difficult to be patient when we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We want to get going...but we have to wait on God for His "orders". He will lead us exactly when and where He wants us to be. Just stay tuned...His message will soon be clear. Praying your Sunday has been blessed too.
DeleteA lovely message for us today, Pam. Thank you! I hope the crane's mate is sitting on her nest and not that something happened to her! Do please keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri. I wondered about the mate perhaps sitting on a nest, but I don't think they are nesting near here. At least we haven't seen them here except once before about a month or so ago there were two of them looking around here, but they never came back that I've noticed. I think there is only room for one nest on this pond at a time, and the Canadian Goose couple has claimed that territory and defends it vigorously! But if I see any further activity from the Sand Hill Cranes, I will be sure to let you know!
DeleteThis is a beautiful post, Pam. After reading it, I Googled to find the sounds a sand hill crane makes. Then I came back here to comment.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know they usually have their mate close by. On Christmas Day 2017 there were 2 Sand Hill cranes walking down the sidewalk in front of my daughter's house. Since they were tame, I stood a little in front of them and Tom caught a snapshot of the two of them behind me, on either side. I like to refer to them as "my followers" (smile). Based on what you have said today, they must have been married to each other. How sweet.
Enjoyed the video of the song, Here I am, Lord. You are doing an excellent job of sharing Christ during these odd days of so much change. Pray that all of His people remain faithful to Him, not falling away, faithful to share His love and Gospel message for all who will listen.
How fun that you have two Sand Hill Cranes as your "followers". Be careful, or they will draft you as their "leader", and ask you to lead them back to South Dakota or Nebraska or wherever they came from! LOL. Just kidding. They are probably local cranes who have elected to stay here rather than do the "snowbird" thing. Anyway, we are called to be Christ's disciples, and to follow Him wherever He leads us. During these difficult days, it may be hard to figure out exactly what that calling is...but I have a feeling when we get back into "action" there will be much work to do, so we need to be prepared for the tasks ahead. I believe that time is running short, and many do not know the truth yet.
DeleteThis is a beautiful post. The pictures are wonderful and so is your commentary . I know that I can hardly wait to meet with my church family again.May God bless you day by day as we wait for circumstances to change.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ruth. Yes, I believe we will all have a new appreciation for our church family when we get back together again. Sometimes we just don't know what we've got until we can't have it! May we be ready to hear God's call when the time comes to get back to action!!
DeleteI needed this. To be reminded that we need to be seeking the Lord during this time. Sadly I haven't been doing that. My mind has been on work and family and virus and... thank you for this reminder and gentle nudge to get into His presence.
ReplyDeleteI think we all need reminders because our days are all running into one another, every day seems like the same day (Groundhog Day!), and in YOUR case, you've had other major issues going on...but God has been with you all the way, and He's there for you all the time. He sees what you are going through and He understands. Sending you hugs and prayers this morning from across the continent.
DeleteThe Sandhill Cranes are so beautiful and what amazing sharp photos you took! We've been hearing them when we hike but haven't seen one in a couple of weeks. We love the big birds we see here in Florida. Take care this week and stay healthy! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteThey may be sitting on nests or taking care of their little ones, also known as "colts". This is the season for that. I don't know why this one was alone. I hope he/she finds his/her mate and that all is well. I love seeing them too. Hugs to you as well.
