This "pond" used to be just a marshy area before last fall's hurricane and the subsequent rains...I was amazed at the amount of water still in these marsh areas...that is actually a good sign that our water tables are rising.
These grasses along the side of the road and pond on the other side show signs of paths worn through them from the deer and possibly the bears...
I should have let you hear the frogs croaking while taking this picture...they were very loud. There may have been an alligator croaking as well, so I didn't want to venture too far from the safety of the car...
Again, this used to be very dry and barely a marsh...and now it is teeming with life.
This tree was staring at me as I drove further down the road...interesting face, don't you think? Not sure if that is a llama or a deer...it certainly got my attention...
The Florida Live Oaks are always very interesting in their shapes...
Mr. Red Shouldered Hawk flew right in front of me and landed in this tree. It was nice of him to pose for a quick picture before taking off again after his supper...
When I got back to the house, I decided to walk around to our own little pond area to check on the Sand Hill Crane family, and ran right into the deer family on their evening stroll...as you can see they are quite as curious about me as I am about them...
This picture is funny...the deer on the left has four ears and eight legs...and the one on the right is leaping away as quick as he can...literally caught in mid-air.
What a treat to discover the Sand Hill Crane family settling down on their island for the night.
Here is one of the "colts"...as you can see they are getting taller every day.
From a distance you can see the four members of the family spread out across the sand bar island, where they settle in every night...the same place where their nest was. I guess they feel safe out there.
Last, but not least...this dragonfly landed on a frog-gig spear alongside the dock. And time for me to head back home, thankful to have found some pictures to share with you!
I hope you enjoyed this little ride through the woods near my home. If you ever come to visit for real, we will be sure to take this little ride (or walk if you're brave enough!)
Now let us walk on over to see what our other friends have been up to this week. You can find them at Deb's place, Breathing In Grace. Have a blessed and beautiful day my friends! What do you see outside your open window?
I regularly bike a trail in suburban St. Louis where I've seen a family of wild turkeys, a herd of deer (rushing in front of me; fortunately, my brakes worked), beavers, rabbits, suicidal squirrels desperately throwing themselves at my bike spokes, all sorts of birds (including an American bald eagle), snakes of various kinds, and once an eight-foot long black snake. How did I know it was eight feet long? Because it covered the entire width of the trail.
ReplyDeletewow! sounds like you live in an interesting area for wildlife too! And an eight foot long black snake? Now, that is a LONG snake! We do have plenty of black snakes here, but I don't think I've ever seen one quite that long. They do love to hunt all around our house, sometimes a bit too close for comfort, but I won't kill a black snake or other non-poisonous relative as they do keep down the rodent population. (unless they try to get in the house...then it is fair game...) Thanks for visiting! Love those crazy squirrels...
DeleteWow, Pamela! God is so good, giving you these wonderful photograph opportunities in the eleventh hour. Thanks so much for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
I agree that God was good to bring out the wildlife just at the right moment! I do give Him praise for sharing His wild kingdom with us here! Never a dull moment.
DeleteLovely wildlife pictures, Pam! I enjoy seeing the Sand Hill Crane family...and the picture of the deer (with the one in mid-air) should be entered in a contest somewhere! LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Yes, that deer was definitely kicking up his heels to get away quick! Such fun! Thank you for visiting. It was fun seeing all of this in my quick little jaunt down the road. God is good to provide just what we need to show off His majesty and beauty!!
DeleteYou have a world's record with the deer that has 8 legs. What fun that photo is.
ReplyDeleteHa ha!! I thought so too. I love God's wild kingdom...always so interesting! Thank you for stopping by for a visit!
DeleteO yes Pamela, I enjoyed this little ride through your woods. What a wonderful world. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteThank you Aritha! Isn't our world magnificent? Our God is an awesome God!!
DeleteI loved this stroll through the woods with you! Thankfully we live in the country and see wildlife regularly Happy weekend
ReplyDeleteForgot to tell you...Loved the tree with the face, Looks like a deer to me. I have one that is really cool looks like a cyclops
DeleteIsn't it wonderful to live in God's beautiful wild kingdom? Thanks for loving the tree...I thought a deer too, but a very strange albino one. I'd love to see your cyclops!
DeletePam, Once again, you've captured some amazing photos of God's amazingly beautiful and stunning creation. Water does revive, renew, restore--without it plants and all live die. Best of all is the Living Water we have through salvation in Jesus Christ alone.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Yes...where would we be without that Living Water? We'd be lost...and thirsting for what we do not know...But thanks be to Jesus Christ for His sacrifice and gift to give us eternal life. Amen!!
DeleteYou live in a very beautiful area of Florida to get such great photo's. That tree caught my attention right off and I had to look closer to be sure it was an animal, maybe a giraffe! Beautiful just beautiful, all your photo's. Be careful out there by yourself...with all those wild animals.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sylvia...yes, I thought of an albino giraffe. LOL. We are blessed to have such beauty around us...but so do you, in a different way. God's masterpieces are everywhere if we just look!!
DeleteWonderful wildlife photos. The running turkeys makes me laugh. Love the dragonfly.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol, yes the running turkeys were funny. I couldn't stop the car fast enough and get my camera focused quickly enough to get a really good picture, but you get the message...they were heading for the woods as fast as they could! Such fun. Thank you for noticing the dragonfly. He was the final act!! have a blessed weekend!
DeleteThat was quite a treat to see so much wildlife near you. I love to see the deer. Thanks for sharing the photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Karen. It was such a fun little jaunt down the road at the last moment...and God brought out all the best stuff to see just at the right moment! His kingdom is pretty spectacular...both the wild kingdom and the heavenly one!!
DeletePam: God know what He was doing when He found this place for you. You do enjoy it. I love the picture of the tree with the "face" on it. Peace and Blessings.
ReplyDeleteThank you Cecelia...yes, I agree. I do enjoy living here. I can't imagine ever living anywhere where there wasn't something fun and interesting to look at. But beauty can be found anywhere if we look hard enough! Peace and blessings to you too. I hope you get to take your little vacation soon.
DeleteThat is a pretty place, the water, the sandhill cranes and that neat photo of the dragonfly.
ReplyDeleteYou've captured and shared some beautiful wildlife photos. I absolutely love marshes. They attract so many kinds of birds, insects and wildlife. Have a happy weekend Pamela!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful selection of photos. Thank you for sharing them with us.
ReplyDeleteYou have bears as well as alligators? Very brave to go out there alone. And eight-legged deer too? Amazing! I bet they run fast.
God bless.
You are so brave to venture out into bear country! (I wonder if they are ever afraid to go out because of cars?)
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to see the sandhill cranes thriving. But my fav is, of course, the llama deer tree. :)
Sadly I saw a bear who was killed on the road the other day. I took some pictures, which are on my facebook page. I may include them in a future post just so people can see the reality of life here in the woods. Yes, the cranes are a happy family. I hope they continue that way. And yes, the "llama deer tree" is pretty unique!! It sure caught my eye! God has a sense of humor in a lot of ways.
DeleteI was about to yell at you for going out alone until I read you were in a car. I thought a bike or something. Was happy to see you were in a car.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful to photograph the things around you? It lets you see more than just touring around since you look for great things!
I like the photos of the deer especially. They are such beautiful animals.
Nice photos. I hope you have bear spray just the same young lady!!!
Ha Ha!! Thank you for caring enough to "yell" at me about going out alone. I rarely do, especially toward evening or too early in the morning. I definitely kept my ears and eyes wide open. I was so thrilled to have so many different "beauties" appear during that short span of time! God's blessing for sure! I do not have any bear spray, but I make a lot of noise when walking...and these bears are pretty shy unless they get cornered or have their cubs with them. I am careful, believe me.
DeleteSuch awesome fotos. I actually thought the tree was a giraffe at first! 😁 Happy SONday sweet Lady! 💜
ReplyDeleteIt does kind of look like an albino giraffe! It sure caught my attention! Happy SONday and Anniversary to you dear friend.
