"The Secret Garden Chronicles"

This morning I entered The Secret Garden, to sit and ponder what messages the Lord would send to me through His Word and His lovely creation.

The first thoughts that came to me were:

"How lovely is Your tabernacle,
O Lord of hosts!
My soul longs, yes even faints for the courts of the Lord;
My heart and my flesh cry out
for the Living God."
Psalm 84:1-2
As I looked above me I could see new growth of leaves on the Wild Black Cherry Tree that will help shade the Secret Garden throughout the summer months and also provide natural food for the birds.  This brought a smile to my face and joy in my heart for the many ways the Lord provides for His children and creation.

And then I began to sing the chorus (written by Matt Redman) that actually comes directly from Psalm 84:

How lovely is Your dwelling place
O Lord Almighty for my soul longs
And even faints for you

For here my heart is satisfied
Within Your presence
I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings

Better is one day in Your courts
Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts
Than thousands elsewhere

One thing I ask and I would seek
To see Your beauty
To find you in the place Your glory dwells

My heart and flesh cry out
For you, the living God
Your spirit's water to my soul
I've tasted and I've seen

Come once again to me
I will draw near to you
I will draw near to you
Better is one day in Your courts
Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts
Than thousands elsewhere

As I was reading these verses and singing this song, my eyes were lifted to the treetops surrounding me, and it truly felt like I was sitting in a lovely tabernacle, with the perfectly blue sky as the ceiling, and the treetops were pointing up like a church spire, lifting their hands in praise toward God Almighty.

And then I know I heard God say to me to start writing these thoughts down as I sit here in the garden...this is what He spoke to my heart:

"Don't wait and try to remember the words I speak to you
when you get back inside the house to your computer...
but GO, get a new journal and begin to write
the messages as I tell them to you.
I want you to write a journal from
The Secret Garden...
My Own Messages to you from My Heart."

A little later my hubby and I took a ride to the nearest store where I could find a new journal book and begin writing...so here it is...

This may be the beginning of some very special communications between God and me...and I look forward to  sharing what He wants to teach me here in this place that has been set apart for prayer, worship and meditation on God's Word.

Thus begins
"The Secret Garden Chronicles"

Then I was directed to Psalm 86:10-12

"For You are great,
and do wondrous things;
You alone are God.

Teach me Your way, O Lord;
I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your Name.

I will praise You,
O Lord my God,
with all my heart.
And I will glorify Your Name forevermore."

Yes, Lord, This is my prayer as I begin this new adventure in The Secret Garden with You!
Make Your Presence known to me Lord...here in the "Secret Place of (Your) Tabernacle."
(Psalm 27:5)

"One thing I have desired of the Lord,
that will I seek;
That I may dwell in the
house of the Lord
all the days of my life
To behold the beauty of the Lord,
and to inquire in His temple.

For in the time of trouble
He shall hide me in His pavillion;
In the SECRET PLACE of His tabernacle
He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock.
And now my head shall be
lifted up above my enemies all around me;
Therefore I will offer
sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;
I will sing, yes I will sing
praises to the Lord."
Psalm 27:4-6

Thank You, Lord, for speaking to Me today.  I am ready to do Your will!  Amen.

    1. I am excited too...and waiting for the Lord to show me His plan and words of inspiration and encouragement and probably some exhortation along the way. As I "rest" in Him, I pray He will infuse me with His strength and power. Amen!

  2. Your photos of the trees reaching toward the heavens reminded me of a Chris Rice song, "Here in My Cathedral," which speaks of being in God's presence when content in His creation. Oh, how special and sacred this secret garden is turning out to be, Pamela! So thrilled that God spoke to you about the journal. I'm sure we will see many blog posts in the future that were inspired by your obedience to Him in this.
    Blessings!

    1. Thank you Martha Jane. I am truly excited that God is leading me on this journey...and back to writing in a journal again.... I've neglected journaling over the past few years as I've done most of my writing on the computer...but there is something wonderful about taking "dictation" from the Lord just as He speaks it to my heart, wherever I am. Yes, I am sure you will be hearing more about this as the days go by. Thank you for your words of encouragement and affirmation.

    1. God is already blessing my heart with His Presence and His treasures of blessings. I find myself wanting to stay and linger there all day...but then I wouldn't be able to do the things He instructs me to do...so...here again I need self-discipline! Thank you for visiting with me today in the Secret Garden. We have wonderful things in store...

  6. I have had a wonderful time playing catch up with the secret garden. How wonderful that it is finished and you are able to use to commune with our God and He with you. I think He has a great sense of humour, He speaks to me either when I am in the bath or driving the car and if I need to write it down I like to get it down as soon as I get home, I still haven't got into a habit of journalling though.

    1. Thank you Diana...I'm not sure that I would say that the Secret Garden is "finished"...it seems like something new develops every day...as you will see later. But with God...there is always something new and fresh every day!!! Yes, God DOES have a sense of humor...I understand what you mean about needing to write things down when we are in the strangest places...I have lots of notes scribbled in my purse and my Bible and on envelopes and scraps of paper... The Journal is a great place to write as God directs...but it doesn't take the place of those spontaneous moments!

  7. Love the beautiful blue sky in your tabernacle! What a glorious design. :)

    He shall hide me in His pavilion, the secret place of His tabernacle... This touched my heart. A pavilion is an open place, and a tabernacle is big and visible. It's not under a rock. Who hides in such a place? The hiding place of God isn't a place of fear or shrinking back, it's a gigantic monument... kinda turns all our definitions on their head. You want me to hide where?? :-)

    Your journal is purple, the color of royalty!

    Bless you, Pamela!

Oh, the journal...Family Dollar special...yes, I picked the purple because it struck me as the best...and I am glad you pointed out the color of royalty! Makes it even more unique and wonderful!!! Thank you for your visit here to the Secret Garden. I do hope you will be back!!

  11. Oh Pam, this is so exciting! Journaling (especially the old-fashioned way) is so meaningful for me. There is something special about writing by hand that is lost at a keyboard. Your photos were so soothing--the weather where I am has been overcast for days and days. Enjoy your special time with the Lord!

    Blessings!
