Trouble Right here in River City
(Per our Hostess Annie:)
Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 where we strive to interest you with 4 questions each week.
"ya got trouble my friend, right here I say trouble right here in River City..." the music man
Problems come to us all and you don't even need to live in River City!
Some you can solve, some you can't. Some scare you. For instance, on Facebook I lost a lot of people from my friends list and I have no idea why. It was enough people to make me think it was a glitch but then I was too shy to ask people if they had gotten rid of me because they just don't like me....so I did nothing. What about your problems?
1. Do you think that you handle problems well over all?I believe I do most of the time. I put my faith in God and trust Him to work things out, but that doesn't mean that I don't have some moments of panic or distress when things go wrong. My humanness rushes to the surface as soon as trouble starts, but then when I allow God to take over...and often times He just takes over without my permission because if I am too distressed to remember to "let go and let God" take over, He sees that and just picks me up and carries me through.
Romans 8:26-28 New King James Version
"26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."
2. What kinds of problems send you into a tizzy or downright scare you? Maybe some just exasperate you?Well, of course health problems for me or any of my loved ones and/or friends...things that come out of the blue totally unexpected can be frightening. But again, GOD.
I Corinthians 10:12-13
"12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."
Those verses do not say that we will never have temptations or troubles or sorrows, but that when they do come, God will see us through it. He will give us what we need as we need it to be able to cope and deal with the situation, whether it be temptations or sickness or other troubles that come our way.
3. We always have God in our corner but besides him do you have a reliable back up system to go to for help with car trouble, home repairs and maintenance, or any troubles that may arise for you?
It is sometimes difficult to find "reliable" persons for car trouble, home repairs, etc. They are often expensive and we never know for sure if they are reliable. My husband is good at finding people whom he feels he can trust to work on different projects that need doing. Oftentimes these are people in our church or friends of the family that are recommended to him or with whom he has cultivated a friendship and we have often found these folks to be the most reliable and also affordable. We have also found that living in a small town/community actually makes it easier to find help than when we lived in a city where everything and everyone was totally impersonal. It "pays" to develop a network of friends and people who are talented and also willing to help in time of need.
4 I love the idea that a lovely cupcake can fix anything at all. "Oh, you are sick? Just eat a dozen of these delicious cupcakes and you will be right as rain!" What foods, places, music or whatever can make a problem seem easier to handle? I guess we are talking about what brings you comfort in the way of material things.
LOL. I've never found "cupcakes" to be all that beneficial, rather they usually make me even sicker. LOL. But then again, a piece of homemade apple pie and/or a bowl of ice cream might help more. LOL But seriously, I do not usually go to "food" or other material sources to make me feel better. That is a real trap that can be very harmful for anyone to fall back on. I find my comfort in God's Word, in the fellowship of good friends, and music that is of a spiritual nature...old hymns, gospel music, inspirational music. Also sometimes when we are feeling a little "down", taking a ride in the country or to a lake or park where we can get out and walk and be in nature with God's beautiful creation for a while is very soothing. I've been wanting to take a ride to the beach (ocean) and just walk on the beach, but we will probably wait until things aren't quite so hot and crowded.
Sometimes getting away from crowds, people, and things is the most comforting of all. I love to sit out in the Memorial/Secret garden on the swing beside Still Waters Pond and just relax.
Here is how that looks right now as I write this early in the morning...things are a little damp outside from last night's rain, but everything is lush and green and beautiful, and we are thankful.
Well, that's today's Tuesday 4. I hope you enjoyed these answers. I want to thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers and comments over the past few days/weeks while we have been sick. We are mostly better, but still have lingering fatigue. We did make it to Sunday School Sunday morning so hubby could teach his class, but again, we were both so exhausted and feeling weak and went home right after and took another nap. That seems to be our pattern right now...we need naps a few times a day in between activities. Hubby ended up going to the Dr. yesterday and they gave him a big shot of vitamin B12 and put him on steroids for a few days. Hopefully that will give him the boost he needs to get over the hump. It keeps feeling like we get over the hump and then crash again, but little by little we are getting there.
Also, the events over the weekend regarding the assassination attempt on our former President and all of the horror that went along with that was very upsetting to us. We were watching the rally right when it all happened, and I can attest to you that the shock of seeing that happen in real time was very surreal. This was definitely a time when I felt very afraid and overwhelmed with anxiety for those moments when everything was unfolding and we didn't know the outcome. I began to weep and pray immediately. We are SO thankful that President Trump was okay, but our hearts go out to the families of those who lost a dear loved one and the others who were wounded, and for the trauma that struck so many hearts at that moment. We are praying now for God to work in the hearts and lives of people in "high power" in our nation, and may our country turn its heart back to God.
Amen
Okay, let's all go over to
Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 and see what others are saying today!Have a blessed day my friends.
any problem that is OUT OF MY CONTROL sends me into a tizzy. I am a strong, independent, problem solving (some say bossy, know it all) and when I can't take control I get in the old Southern Hissy Fit. ha ha.. health issues are mostly out of my control so they top the lists. I am NOT a caregiver, a natural at it, and now am thrust into that role and find it very difficult. aging is another thing out of my control and I DON"T LIKE it at all...
ReplyDeleteI do understand your feelings...old age is definitely not for sissies, and the older we get, the more I feel like a "sissy". I don't thing any of us enjoy the role of having to be a caregiver, especially when it is someone we love and we feel powerless to help them get better. You may need to find a friend or someone with "caregiving" gifts to spell you now and then...give you a break so you can take a day to go do things for yourself that you enjoy...lunch with a friend or whatever other kinds of things help you relax and be refreshed. If you don't have such a "friend", I will be praying that God will bring someone to you who can help you in that way. You need to take care of YOU before you can take care of others non stop. May God provide who and what you need and soon. (((hugs))).
DeleteThank you for always finding and sharing these comforting verses, Pam.
ReplyDeleteI like to think (ha!) I prepare myself for every "just in case" scenario. Yet, while speeding down I-65 last week for Tom's eye appointment my car's dash flashed: "Low tire pressure detected" ... and I panicked. Thank goodness, Tom insisted I pull off the next exit so he could take a look and reassure me everything looked fine. Heck, not only do I not know how to change I tire, I don't even know where our spare's located. (I do, however, keep the # of road service in my phone.)
Still praying for your and John's complete healing!
PS ... and praying for our Country. Not only fragile, but I felt Shattered watching the footage from Pennsylvania.
We had that situation with our tires, and kept checking them and they were fine. We found out that as tires age their sensing device that is in them begins to break down and sends that signal to our "smart cars". You may want to go to one of those drive in places that change the oil or a tire place and have them check it with their equipment. We did eventually replace the tires because they were getting old it was time to replace them before they really did "malfunction". I couldn't change a tire either if I had to. Thankfully, God has always brought some kind soul along to rescue me every time that has happened. But still, it's a good idea to get them checked out ahead of time just in case. And yes, "fragile and shattered" are good descriptive words for how I felt as well. PRAYING.
DeleteLike you, prayer is my very first response to the sudden upsets of life, and without a doubt, since Beloved's passing 3 1/2 years ago, I am learning more about what genuine trust in the Lord means.
ReplyDeleteAs for coping mechanisms, depending on the issue at hand, my resources include quiet piano hymn music (songs that just "roll" from one into another, such as that by Stan Whitmire), hot coffee with hazelnut creamer or hot tea, peanut butter, and the movie My Blue Heaven with Steve Martin makes me laugh even after having watched it MANY times. More recently, I'm learning that riding my bicycle by myself in our immediate neighborhood while singing out loud hymns and chorus -- that's a great help, too.
I also absolutely love to read my Bible with a pen and 4 colored pencils in hand (red, purple, blue, and green). I underline verses/phrases that are really speaking to me, using red for general statements of fact, purple for what describes God, blue for bad things to avoid, and green to indicate what I need to do or should be doing. I began doing this a few months after Beloved died. Then later, when I want to review something I've read, those colored underlines jump out at me as a summary.
I think most of us look to God for comfort. He is so much better at helping me to calm and see things better. Loved your answers! Have a nice week. ♥

How Firm a Foundation..the words of that song rang in my heart as I read your beautiful and full of Faith answers to the Tuesday 4.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are feeling better and pray that this will continue for both you and your Hubby.
I love your places of quietness on your property. What a respite from the "Storms of Life"
For me...cupcakes don't solve my problems...now a bowl of ice cream does calm things down a bit now and then,,haha..
I think I handle problems fairly well but most of the time my tummy gets in a knot and then I have to remember to give it over to the Lord.
I am so grateful for my family and friends that are always at the ready to help out. Its a two way street..we help them and they help us too.
The church body is my family too.
Great questions
Sue
Prayer is the best recourse but it is so easy for me to devolve into a mess. I've done it too, like, when the A/C quit working and it's 100* outside. Now, we have the window unit A/C permanently installed in a living room window for the "next time". With the Biden EPA ruining the capacitors this is going to happen over and over and over ... be expecting it.
ReplyDeleteThe Church and all the Believers are my family too especially since I have no actual family. I know many pray for me. I enjoy praying for them and my blogging buddies as well.
Hope y'all are staying cool and still feeling good.
Pamela 💙
I loved your answers. Prayers are also helpful for me too.
ReplyDeletePam: I have been praying for our country for a long time. This attempt did not surprise me. I don't like it, but it didn't surprise me. The young father who got shot and died was a member of the GMC church in Pennsylvania. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteHi Pamela, I always enjoy the verses you post. You Still Waters Pond looks so nice and green, and I am glad you got rain. I am praying for our country and trusting in God.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a tragic event. It seems to be so much hate in our country and it's heart breaking. Only God can 'fix' us, I also pray for the leaders of our country, local and national, to let God guide them in all situations and decisions. Let us love our fellow man, even if we disagree on issues, let us not hate so much as to kill.
ReplyDeleteI always love seeing the pond in the rain.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't see the attack in real time, but soon were alerted and turned on the tv. Yes, praying for our country and our leaders for sure!
Another fun Tuesday 4. I just love how lush and green everything looks outside right now from all the rain we've been getting. I got soaked through after work when I went to Publix for a few things. It was sunny when I went in and pouring when I went out! What a mess - but we need the rain!! I'm glad your pond is filling up again and hope it stays that way now! Glad you are both feeling better!! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why some go to be approved and others do not. This one showed up on its own. I will go double check some others. If they are on older posts, I think I have to approve them first, so I will go see if I missed some. Thank you for letting me know!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your answers. Hopefully you are all back on the mend. Yes, that was a shocking situation. And it bothers me how quick people on both sides started accusing the other side...a human was almost killed and another one was...nothing else matters in those moments during and following. :(
