Thursday Thankfulness~ My Heart is Full

If you've been following my posts over the past week, you will know that one week ago today we were given a wonderful "Easter Surprise", when our grandson and his sweet fiancee' showed up for a long overdue visit.  And the joy and laughter and blessings continue.  Yes, they are still here with us, and as they are actually looking for work in the area, they may be here for a while.
But that's okay with us.  It's been a long time since we've been with our grandson Noah, and this is the first we've gotten to meet his sweet Dawn, and so we have a lot of catching up to do.
And they are are not sitting idle while they wait for a job to come along. In between applying for jobs in the area, they are also helping out here at home and doing other special things for us.

Dawn is a gifted jewelry creator, and is actually working on items to sell in our local flea market next weekend, which is held at the Deep Creek Game Farm not far from us.  But first she wanted to bless me with a very special gift:

This lovely little charm bracelet is made with a braided deer hide band, and special little charms that she and Noah picked out for me.  The flamingo, because they heard about my "attraction" to flamingoes (which is a long and fun story), a little silver heart with an angel in the middle, which stands for our son (and Noah's father) who is in heaven, the White Rabbit, for the Mad Hatter Tea Party, because I like tea parties, (Alice in Wonderland fame), a watering pitcher for my flowers, and a musical Treble Clef sign because I love to sing, and a little cross because of my faith in Christ.  Oh, and of course the sweet little tag that says "Family".  What could be more perfect than that?

Meanwhile, while that is going on, there's a lot more happening in the house.  Last week, (just before they arrived), our 20 year old microwave decided to die, just in time for Easter and company! So, although I didn't get any pictures of it, Noah and Benton and Rose all worked together to remove the old microwave, which, by the way, was also the hood/vent/light above the stove.  Once that was done, Rose actually had some new parts to try and repair it (fuses), (she's very mechanically inclined!) but that did not fix the problem, so we determined that we would have to scrap that one and get a new one. We went online and found a new one at a very reasonable price and ordered it. Of course, it couldn't be delivered before Easter...so we managed to prepare Easter dinner without the help of a microwave. (and heat up subsequent leftovers, etc., for several days w/o it. Fun!)

Finally the new microwave was delivered on Monday, and we decided that the family would gather on Tuesday for a chili supper that Rose cooked and brought over to our house, and then afterwards the kids would install the new microwave while I went to Choir Practice.
Before I left I managed to get a few pictures of the fun:

Rose and Benton rotating the vent or whatever it was called so it would vent up into the ceiling.

Benton acting silly and showing off his "I'm Mom's Favorite" T-shirt, since everyone had seen our other son Scott's T-shirt in the Easter pictures and he was not about to be outdone by his younger brother!

Okay goofball, back to work! LOL.

So here Noah and Rose and Benton are working together to reconnect the vent hose and install the new microwave to the wall.

They were all deep in concentration on this matter when I left for choir practice.

And when I came home, there it was, all installed and working beautifully!!!  What a blessing! What a joy to have smart kids who can figure these things out!!

In between all of this fun and activity, Noah has actually been helping his uncle Benton with some woodworking projects. He would like to learn the woodworking trade and follow in his father's and his uncle's footsteps.  Not sure if that will be what he does for a living or not, but it's always a great skill to learn. And the fact that he is here and helping his uncle is a real blessing in so many ways. I don't have any pictures of that yet, but will be looking for opportunities to get some as time goes by.

Meanwhile, last night "Grandpa" and I sat down with the "kids" and played a game of Yahtzee, (which GRANDMA WON!) and then a fun card game.

Hubby and I both remarked this morning how wonderful it was to have so much life in the house again.
Yes, my heart is full.

  6. That bracelet took my breath away, Pamela - it suits you to a "T". Dawn is so talented, as is the rest of your crew when it came to getting the new microwave installed and working. I'm grateful that ours held up while our own crew was here!
And I'm thrilled that Noah and Dawn are looking for jobs right there in your neck of the woods. I know you treasure your family as much as I treasure mine, so it will be a blessing to have these two young folks nearby at long last. Blessings!

  10. How fun that must be to have your grandson and his wife staying with you as they look for jobs so they can stay nearer to you. That is so special. What a nice bracelet that is and that they took special care to personalize it with your favorite things.

I have an over stove vented microwave similar to your new one. I hope mine lasts as long as your older one. I can’t tell you how many times in my adult life when an important every day appliance breaks down on or just before a holiday. Once my dishwasher went out at Thanksgiving! Oh well - just goes to show how we can’t ever depend on inanimate objects like we can on our living Christ.

Enjoy your precious time. God bless

  14. I am just so happy for you that Noah and his sweet fiance have decided to stay in Florida. I know you're heart is overflowing with that news. I sure know mine would be. And all of the time you get to have with the kids is great. Our family bonds over card games and dominoes too.
Rose is definitely a "jack of all trades" isn't she? How sweet of her and the boys to take care of installing the new microwave. Isn't it crazy how much we use those things?
And finally, that bracelet is a work of art. I love how personal the charms are and how they fit you so perfectly. What a blessing this time is for you.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy
