After trimming back the branches of our huge live oak trees in front of the house that were getting too close to the house, he then went to cut down that tree by the fence that is dying and needed to come down:
Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Wednesday Treasures~A Busy Day
Yesterday was a rather stormy day, with pop up thunderstorms scattered throughout the whole day, from morning until night. These two pictures were taken last night, while the sunset was shrouded in storm clouds:
Even in its darkness it was still quite beautiful and interesting, don't you think?
God paints the most beautiful masterpieces in His heavens for us to enjoy, even in the midst of a storm...He's always there!
First of all, I want to thank you all who took the time to comment on my post yesterday HERE. I always love to read your comments, and I also love to read your blog posts, but yesterday was a busy day and I haven't had time yet to get caught up. Maybe today will slow down a bit so I can catch my breath. But thank you for sharing your thoughts with us...I always look forward to hearing from you.
So, yesterday started out first of all, with hubby having a follow up Dr. appointment to go over his labs from his last visit. Thankfully all was good...even better than expected in some areas. So that was wonderful news!
From there we went over to the new Dixie Cottage store, which is still "under construction", to test out our keys that we had made copies of so we each have a set. The previous day I had gotten the new set made, and one key didn't work, so we had to take it back to ACE and have them redo it, and this time it worked fine. "If at first you don't succeed, try try again!"
So here I am...
And here is hubby...
We were also checking out the fact that the landlord has been true to her word that the building is being pressure-washed and primed and ready for painting on the outside. So far so good.
This is just a quick glimpse from inside, where the kids are starting to bring in items to prepare the store for the grand opening, which is scheduled for August 2nd. They are still working in the St. Augustine store until July 23rd, and then they will pack everything up and move it over here during the following week. They have a LOT to do!
Yesterday afternoon they had a meeting with prospective vendors who are interested in setting up booths in the store to sell their particular craft/art/designs. The space is limited to only about 5 or 6 different booths, (in addition to all the items Dixie Cottage already sells) but it sounds like there will be a nice variety of items from homemade organic soaps and lotions to stained glass, wreaths, custom signs/shirts/mugs, jewelry, etc. I can't wait to see just what all there will be! It's going to be a fun place when all is ready!
So meanwhile, back at the home front and in between thunderstorms, well, even during the storms,
we had our old friend "George of the Jungle" doing some tree work for us:
(click that link for pictures from the last time he was here 2 years ago)
He brought his family along to help with the clean up:
Yes, that's his little 4 year old son and wife helping out.
And yes, he's barefooted. He's been that way since he could walk...right there helping his daddy with the trees. George says that's how he started out with his daddy. Of course I worried about his stepping on something sharp and hurting himself...but I was assured his feet were tough as leather...
And he's quite strong too.
Meanwhile, across the street a dump truck brought in a load of clay to put down for a foundation under a new home that we keep waiting to see when it will appear. Looks like the truck about burned up its motor, but I guess not. He drove away just fine...
No big lift truck or heavy equipment for George of the Jungle. Just a guy with his trusty chain saw and lots of skill and experience. We weren't too sure how he was going to cut that tree down and not hit our fence, but he did it:
And then the rains came:
But that didn't stop them. The little guy had lots of fun running back and forth in the rain helping out and finding some puddles to play in as well:
It didn't take them long at all to get that tree cut up and loaded in the wagon and hauled away.
And this is what's left. I guess we should have asked him to cut it down to the ground, but who knows, maybe it will grow back even better. This part of the trunk didn't look too dead if you ask me.
Maybe I'll get creative and put something on top of it.
Well, folks, that's my Wednesday "treasures" for today. Nothing much on the schedule yet for today. Maybe some more storms rolling in by this afternoon.
Frankly, I think I need a day of rest. LOL.
Here's a favorite old song about the storms of life:
"Til The Storm Passes By"
In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face
While the storm howls above me, and there's no hiding place
'Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry
Keep me safe till the storm passes by
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand
Keep me safe till the storm passes by
Many times Satan whispered
There is no use to try
For there's no end of sorrow, there's no hope by and by
But I know Thou art with me, and tomorrow I'll rise
Where the storms never darken the skies
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand
Keep me safe till the storm passes by
Hope you are safe from any "storms" in your life right now...
Have a blessed and beautiful day my friends.

Love this
ReplyDeleteLove the Gaithersburg…have seen them in person when we lived in Ohio…the. Visited their restaurant and gift shop studio in Indiana…also at Gospel singing convention in Louisville and then when it moved to Pigeon Forge…Because He lives was my signature song at the church we started on the 1970’s. Second verse…Squire Parsons my favorite because from my area growing up…seen him a million times…oh my so many…been to so many gospel concerts…the Easter’s…she is a delight to chat with…Kim and all fro her group…love love your songs and your little church…prayers…hope to visit the new shop…
Oh, you've mentioned a lot of the great gospel groups/singers. I love to hear Squire Parsons sing Beulah Land. No one else can sing it like him. Oh, if you ever do come over to visit the shop, be sure to let me know ahead of time so I can be sure to be there! That would be great. I would wait a while until they get it really settled...it may be a while for all the "tweaking" it is going to need. But it will come together. I am trying to stay out of the way right now, however. I can't do much to help physically, but I can pray! Have a blessed day.
DeleteSo fun to see the pictures of the branches and trees being taken down. And it was fun to see your house from that angle. I hope the move will go smoothly. Looking forward to seeing the pictures when they've moved in. Hope you have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cathy. It was good to get the trees trimmed, etc., but now the sun is much brighter in places where it was shady before and I am having to adjust. And thank you for your best wishes for the store move. I am praying for a smooth move as well...they have a LOT of work yet to do and I am not able to help them much so I am better off staying out of the way until they get it more organized. Then it will be my turn to help out in the store. It's just hard to sit and watch for me. I hope you are having a great day as well.
DeleteYou live in a pretty area. That little boy cracked me up - reminded me of my 3 little boys when they would ride their bikes in the pouring rain. That stump would bug me. It might be fun to look how others have decorated a tree stump.
ReplyDeleteYeah, little boys and rain and puddles and being free to run barefoot...those were the days. And yes, I am looking at options for the stump. One of my blogging friends suggested a gnome house. I just need someone with some creative ability to help me. It may have to wait until the weather cools off a bit as well. Just too hot out there to do much creatively.
DeleteYou have shared my one outstanding favorite hymn. I have relied on it when I have had many difficulties that bothered me. I am in the midst of several storms at the moment. Please continue to pray for me and my family and my church family.
ReplyDeletePraying for you and with you, Cecelia. It's wonderful to know that God is always with us, and especially during the storms of life. May you know and feel His peace.
DeleteTrees are scary, especially when they are close to your house or other structures. I know it feels good to have that done before it could cause problems for you. I always love your photos of sunsets over your sweet pond and even with storm clouds it is beautiful. I can't wait to visit the new Dixie Cottage one of these days! xo
ReplyDeleteOh, I do hope you will be able to visit us at Dixie Cottage. They've got a lot of work ahead of them to get it ready on time...not for the faint of heart or the "aged". LOL. I will do my part after they get more settled. Right now I am better off to stay out of the way.
DeleteI’m cringing to see that little fella running around barefoot,. Ouch! It feels good to have the trees trimmed and all cleaned up, doesn’t it? Till the Storm Passes By, what a lovely song.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I cringed as well, but then I remembered the little guy came to visit two years ago when his papa was doing tree work for us, and he was barefoot then as well, and only two, running around just like he did this time. I wonder if he's ever had any shoes on his feet! LOL. He's a cutie but also a tough little guy! Oh, glad you enjoyed the song. It's one of my favorites. Always a comfort to know God is with us in all of the storms of life.
DeleteBeautiful song, and so very timely! Oh Pam, I'm delighted to hear John's tests came back a-ok! George and his 'crew' sound amazing; that little guy so industrious. What a difference they are, compared to these enormous machines and power lifts. Not a job for the faint of heart, for sure. It will be fun to see what you have in mind for the lone survivor!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Myra. Not sure yet what I will do for the "lone survivor". I need someone with some time and skill to help me create something, so that might be a while. All of my creative sons are very busy these days and my lone surviving stump is not high on the priority list. LOL.
DeleteNow, there are some hard and dedicated workers, Pamela! That little guy is as cute as he can be. Like you, we've had lots of rain, which we sorely needed. It's possible that more is coming today.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the news, and for the update on Dixie Cottage.
Blessings!
Thank you, Martha. Yes, the little guy is a cutie, and tough too. He never stopped moving around even in all the rain. And yes, we do appreciate the rain. It's just that things are growing so fast we can't keep up with it! I guess that's a good problem to have. Blessings to you as well.
DeleteThe Gaithers' version of Till the Storm Passes By has ministered to me over the years for various reasons. It is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteDealing with trees here in Florida (as well as all shrubbery) seems to be a never-ending occupation. I guess we have to do that to keep the jungle from overtaking us!!
Yes, it is a wonderful song...and it has ministered to me as well. And yes, dealing with trees is a never ending job for sure, especially the live oaks. They live up to their names!
DeleteHave a beautiful day. Regine

Glad that John's test all went well, Pam, and thanks for sharing. Also appreciated the updates on the Dixie Cottage move and it will be great to see the new space once everything is settled in. Nice to have some local vendors joining in as well. The tree cutting process was interesting to see, especially with that little fellow being such a helper.
ReplyDeleteOh we sure need more rain at my house. We got some yesterday but my poor pond is so low. God will send us what we need I know but I am wondering if I might need to do a rain dance! LOL! So excited for the kids Pam and praying the move is wonderful for them. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
