Yesterday was a wonderful day of Thanksgiving!
The new flag in the yard was a gift from my sister to welcome our guests into our front door:
And welcome them we did! From near and far...family from both sides of our family tree came together to share the bounty of what God hath provided...
The Steiners and the Hutchinsons and their offspring
My sister Doris Mursch Hutchinson had most of her family here, and I had most of my family here
The Mursch Sisters: Doris and Pam
And the Steiner brothers also had most of their respective families here...
The Steiner Brothers: John and Bill and our families below:
It was a grand day in every way, filled with much joy, laughter, and good food!
Great-Grandson, Jack. It's a family tradition!
The cookies were baked by my youngest son Scott, seen here mashing the potatoes:
And there was a new member of the family, "Snuggles" the dog, who was sniffing out all the goodies. Seen here with his loving "keeper", our niece Shannon.
So after the day was over and everyone returned to their respective homes (no, no one opted to stay over in our
"guest room"), and the food was all put away and everything cleaned up,
I woke up this morning and decided it was time to "put away Thanksgiving" and start preparing for Christmas. I know many of you have already put up your trees and have done other decorations even before Thanksgiving, but I am a Thanksgiving "purist" or "Puritan", preferring to keep the two holidays totally separate.
(Click HERE for previous posts written on this topic) I have a difficult time multi-tasking with the two major holidays of the year, so I have to keep them separate for my own sanity's sake.
But today we started the day out quietly and peacefully, spending some time on the deck, reading from God's Word, watching the Wood Ducks swimming around the pond:
Aren't they beautiful???
And as I thought about all the wonderful blessings of yesterday (and this whole past year), I was suddenly filled with the joy and energy to begin the Advent and Christmas season anew...
Starting from the outside and gradually working our way inside...(that will come in the days to come...again...one thing at a time...)
And I knew that this year, in our new house in our new neighborhood I wanted our Christmas message to the world to be about the true meaning of Christmas.
And as we took a little ride to go take our walk in the woods this morning, we passed a place on the side of the road where a man was selling these wooden Nativity silhouettes! I've long admired them and have wanted one for the longest time, and I told my hubby that was all I wanted for Christmas this year...and so he turned around and we went back and bought this to put along side our original little wooden tree with the message: For Unto Us a Child is Born"
And then we got home and I started getting ready for Christmas!
Our little front porch tree is all decked out and lit up to spread the joy...
And the front door is ready to welcome guests...
And we are ready to welcome the Christ-child...The Savior of the World!
Christ is coming! Time to start preparing our homes and our hearts to receive Him!
Isaiah 9:6-7 New King James Version (NKJV)
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Glad you had a wonderful time together. I love your Christmas display.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your new outdoor Nativity! It is really beautiful and perfect with the tree proclaiming the message of Christmas! I am so glad you had such a wonderful Thanksgiving in your new home and now, on to a very Merry Christmas!!
ReplyDeletePamela your new home is just simply cosy and perfect for all the hospitality you showed to others over Thanksgiving. No doubt at Christmas there will also be more hospitality going on :-) I love the welcome flag your sister gave you. It's beautiful. I too like to keep the holidays separate but we are fortunate in Canada to have far more time between Thanksgiving and Christmas to prepare things. Even so I do not decorate for Christmas too early. The Christmas things were brought from storage today and I hope to have time to decorate later in the week. I do like your outdoor Christmas tree. It is so cheery. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos you have shared of your Thanksgiving. I love your Christmas decor and look forward to seeing more. Hope you and your husband are feeling much stronger now and will have a healthy December.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the many smiles, I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend. smiles
ReplyDeleteHi Pamela,
ReplyDeleteHow nice to see all the happy pictures of your family. Making new memories in your new home!
Is that a grapevine tree on your porch? (I have a small one in my bedroom decorated with little angels that have been given to me over the years.) The nativity on top is so sweet and I love the lighted one above it. The silhouette and tree in your yard are adorable! Yes, it is time to prepare our homes and hearts to receive Him...
Blessings, Linda
Yes, Linda, that is a grapevine tree. I made that from wild grapevines from our last home in Salt Springs. It was quite a project, and I am happy that it has lasted for quite a few years now!Thank you for enjoying it with me! Yes, "Oh come let us adore Him..."
DeleteWhat wonderful family pictures...and now you are all ready for Christmas. I haven't done one thing yet-except I took down Fall/Thanksgiving. I really need to get busy. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diana. I am hardly "All ready for Christmas". Just getting started. Haven't bought the first gift. I am truly a person who works better under stress...or at least I used to be when I was younger. I am finding that system doesn't work as well with my older body these days...so I keep vowing to do better every year...so far I haven't made much progress. Old habits are hard to break. Thank you for visiting!!
DeleteSo good to see you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with your family and I really enjoyed all the pictures.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful family gathering, Pamela! I'm sure a grand time was had by all. And your Christmas decorations are both lovely and tasteful. I had every intention on starting my decorating today, but it will have to wait until tomorrow, not that we are planning to do too much this year. Danny's back has been acting up, and we're going on vacation in mid-December, so we decided to opt out of putting up our tree. Instead, we will make our nativity scene the heart of our Christmas.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, my friend!
Amen to the verse at the end...written many, many years before Jesus was born.
ReplyDeleteLook at all the love in your family! Wonderful photos. 😊
And...gotta say again that blue was a fantastic choice for your door. It is gorgeous! (As is the flooring in the kitchen in the photo of Snuggles!)
Love the Nativity silhouette!
Have a Merry Christmas, Pamela. I have a feeling this one is very special for us all.
I enjoyed your outside decorations. Your new nativity piece is beautiful. We had our son here yesterday and today. I haven't even started on decorating for Christmas. I still say that you are a born decorator. This first week of December is ultra-busy for me. If the weather holds, I will be doing something away from home every day. I may plan to get decorations out next weekend.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to catch on blog reading while my grandson is taking a nap. I love the Nativity sign. My husband makes a point to get ours out as soon as possible. He bought one for both kids to put out. The government can take them away from all the city places, but we still have our yards to shine the light.
ReplyDeleteFamily gathered around a table is about the best thing a Mama can get. I know you enjoyed them all.
