Splashdown!

Splashdown!  The Orion Astronauts from Artemis 2 mission to the moon have landed!

How many of you stayed up and watched the return of Artemis 2 last night?  I stayed up until I saw each astronaut WALK across the landing deck of the The USS John P. Murtha.  These are photos I took on our TV as we watched all the excitement, but I didn't get pictures of them on the ship.

Above, the astronauts are sitting on the "front porch", (inflated raft) in front of the Orion space capsule,  while they await the helicopters who came to transport them to the ship one by one.

Here are the helicopters hovering over them and pulling them up inside to carry them to the ship.

I love this photo:
Hooray! They all made it safely! Praise God!

These pictures were taken earlier as they entered earth's atmosphere from outer space:

I don't usually get all this excited about such things, but the older I get, the more amazed I am at the miracle of space travel.  I am amazed at the knowledge that God has given these extremely intelligent engineers and flight controllers at NASA, to design and build and carry out these missions with such precision and perfection! When I think of all the calculations that had to go into creating the spacecraft and giving it the ability to carry people around the moon and back so flawlessly, well...only God could give people such knowledge and ability. Yes, I know, so much is computerized...but people built the computers...and God created the people with the intelligence to figure all of that out!  I know it's way above my head how they could do all of that! So I just want to give God the glory and thank Him for their safe journey there and back home again!

Psalm 8 NKJV

The Glory of the Lord in Creation
To the Chief Musician. On the instrument of Gath. A Psalm of David.

1 "O Lord, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth,
Who have set Your glory above the heavens!

2 Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have ordained strength,
Because of Your enemies,
That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
4 What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

6 You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,
7 All sheep and oxen—
Even the beasts of the field,
8 The birds of the air,
And the fish of the sea
That pass through the paths of the seas.

9 O Lord, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth!"

I saw this on a post on Facebook, and I thought it was something worth sharing:

"Astronaut Quotes Jesus From the Far Side of the Moon

NASA's Artemis II mission marked America's return to deep space with the first crewed lunar flight in over 50 years. As the Orion spacecraft prepared to swing behind the Moon and lose all radio contact with Earth, pilot Victor Glover delivered a direct message rooted in Scripture.

"Christ said, in response to what was the greatest command, that it was to love God with all that you are," Glover stated. "And he also, being a great teacher, said the second is equal to it, and that is to love your neighbor as yourself."
He continued: "And so, as we prepare to go out of radio communication, we're still going to feel your love from Earth, and to all of you down there on earth and around earth, we love you from the moon."

Glover, a U.S. Navy captain, ISS veteran, and committed Christian, has openly carried his faith into space before. The moment came as the crew ventured farther from Earth than any humans in history, a stark reminder that core truths endure even when signals fade.
In an age of division and doubt, this simple declaration from lunar orbit cuts through the noise: love God fully, love your neighbor as yourself. No politics, no lectures, just timeless commands echoed from the void. Americans should take note. Faith, duty, and exploration still define the best of us. Godspeed to the crew."

Amen!

Have a blessed day my friends!

  3. I actually found myself crying tears of relief as I witnessed the flawless splashdown of this capsule, Pamela, and giving God profuse thanks for keeping these astronauts safe. What a miracle! Thanks, too, for including that quote from Victor Glover, a true man of God. May your weekend be blessed!

  4. I am thankful that they returned safely! I remember well when we first landed on the moon and being so excited about it (watched in black & white on a very small TV). Then the heartbreak of the Challenger blowing up in 1986. It is always a blessing when our space travelers return home!! I watched a few reruns of My Favorite Martian a week or so ago and just had to chuckle through each episode!! Thanks for sharing the photos, Pam. I did not stay up for the landing. xo

  5. I love what Victor Glover said, all glory belongs to God. I watched the entire event also, so many miles in just a few days.

  6. It is definitely a relief to see them all back on earth, having arrived safely. What an amazing trip. It was especially good to see how our Lord was honored in all of this.

  7. Yes and Amen !!!
Thanks so much Pam for sharing the photos of landing and Victor Glover's prayer and admonition for all of us.
We watch in awe too. So much has happened since we watched the moon landing 50 years ago.
It never occurred to me to take pictures from the screen. I wish I had done that.
    Have a wonderful weekend.
