Wayfaring
Here's about as close to going on a cruise as I will ever get...and this is an old picture from about 5 or 6 years ago! I haven't been out in the kayak in quite a while, due to the shallowness of the pond, and the lack of strength in my arms. Maybe if the rains will keep coming Still Waters Pond will fill back up to a reasonable depth and I can try making it around the pond once again...but don't hold your breath waiting! LOL!
Welcome to Tuesday 4...
1. Where have you traveled and what is the furthest you've been from home?
Let's see, we are not big travelers. Probably the farthest away from home I've ever been would be the Space Needle in Seattle, WA. We flew there many years ago (probably at least 35) for a church annual conference. Although my hubby is not fond of heights, we managed to talk him into going up in the elevator to the top of the Space Needle, where we had lunch with some of our friends. I can assure you that he did not look down! LOL. I don't have any photos from that experience, so I will borrow these from the internet:

Back during the years that we were in the ministry, our church denomination would have an annual "Council" in a different location every year, and that was the highlight of the year for us as our church would send us to the conference. We usually had to fly to wherever it was, and we would get to stay in a nice hotel near the convention center. We always looked forward to meeting up with many old friends...other Pastors and their wives and people we had known from different churches where we'd served. It was like a great reunion/vacation for us...eating out at nice restaurants, and hearing inspirational keynote speakers (preachers), enjoying good music, and if there was time we would do a little sight seeing around the area. We got to go places and see things that we never would've been able to do on our own. Seattle is the one I remember most, but we also went to Washington D.C., Columbus, OH., Rochester, NY, Orlando,FL (which was like going home for us), just to name a few that I can remember! It's been a long time ago now, so I'm surprised I remembered that much! LOL.
2. Is there a location other than where you are, that you think would be a nice place to live?Yes, in the North Georgia mountains, (preferably in the fall and spring), and Maine or New Hampshire, but only in the late spring through fall. We live in the best place for the winter months already...Florida!
3. Do you have a photo or story from a favorite place to visit? (See above) The North Georgia Mountains...we have been trying to go every fall over the past few years with our kids. I didn't think we were going to make it this year, but they said "YES WE ARE!", so reservations have been made for late in October, lord willing and the creek don't rise! Praying for hubby's health to be better so he will feel more like traveling. Thankfully our son does all the driving.
4. What dream destination do you have tucked away in your heart? Do you think you'll be able to visit them one day or are plans in the making?Dream destination? I really can't say that I have one. I would love to go back to Maine someday for a good visit, not only to do some sight-seeing with our kids, but also to visit with our grandson Noah and his mother. When our grandson was little, we would always go for his birthday in October, and one of the highlights was to take him to the
Fryeburg Fair in Fryeburg, Maine. Many years ago with our grandson Noah in Maine
Uncle Scott always enjoyed taking Noah on the rides when he was there with us.
Here we are with Noah and his daddy, our son Matthew, and his wife Nicole, at a roadside scenic overlook in Maine, on the way to the fair. This was in October, 2013. Matthew passed away in May of 2014 after a 4 year battle with cancer. We haven't been to the Fryeburg Fair since then. Noah is now almost 26 years old, and I'm not so sure he cares that much about going to the fair anymore, but still, we'd love to go with him again someday.
So that's the Tuesday 4 for this week. Thank you, Annie, for coming up with the questions and doing this to honor the memory of our late blogging friend, Toni Taddeo.

Those are good travels and wonderful memories!
ReplyDeleteI'm with your hubby - I might go up in the needle but I wouldn't look down!
When my husband and I were managing a long- distance relationship he was living in Seattle. All the times I’ve been there I have never been on it. The last time, a few years ago they wanted $35 per person. Nope that $70 would go to other excursions! Now it’s about $45.
ReplyDeleteThe three states I would consider living in is beautiful Oregon, rustic Nevada or Arizona. Then I wouldn’t be that far from my boys!
One never knows where God will take us.
Another fun post. You've had such good travels. We've been all over America and one part of Mexico just over the border. Now that I'm old I'm quite content to stay where I am and not travel anymore. Only Day Trips are on our calendar now. Did one cruise once in May 2008. That will be my first and last. It was awful, miserable, boring and cost way too much money. I'll not do that again (too lengthy to explain here). In my opinion, you're not missing anything.
ReplyDeleteLove & Blessings. ❤️
What a lovely post---I've traveled through most of the US but not to Maine! lol
ReplyDeleteI so love that first picture of you, Pam! In large part due to my father's love of travel, I've seen all 50 states as well as Europe and Greece. Glad for the memories, but would I want to go back? Nuh-uh! With tensions being what they are, I'm not comfortable leaving the USA. I sure wouldn't say "no" to the Georgia mountains, however. I don't drive a Chevrolet, but remember Dinah Shore singing, "See the USA, in your Chevrolet!"
ReplyDeleteYour blog post brought back so many memories of my own travels! It's awesome that you got to see so much of the country through church conferences. The Space Needle sounds like quite an adventure, especially for someone not fond of heights! And I'm really hoping you get to go back to Maine and the Fryeburg Fair with Noah; what a beautiful tribute to Matthew.

Well Captain Pam, I like your cruise ship on the pond. I think Maine and New Hampshire are perfect in fall. I have only been to Florida once to visit my mother in law (they were native Floridians) in Miami. I was 21 and so the humidity did not bother me much at all. Isn't it wonderful to have photographs so we can look back on precious moments?
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in!!
Speeding through, Pam, trying not to miss any news from my dear friends, here!! I enjoyed your Tuesday 4!! Sending love and a hug!
ReplyDeleteYou've got some great photos as always Pamela. I love your cruise on Stillwaters Pond, lol. It's a very convenient location. I'll bet you and your husband had a wonderful time at the church conferences. When I was working, I always enjoyed the brief moments I would have to see something new when travelling to conferences or work meetings.
ReplyDeleteloved those photo locations. I grew up near seattle. I loved the north georgia mountains photo and the one of you in the kayak
ReplyDeleteNow that's such a great cruise ship you are on. Love the photo and your expression. Hope you get more water in the pond so you can go "sailing" again.
ReplyDeleteDave and I have been fortunate to travel to many places in the US and the world through work and church trips. Canada, Africa, Mexico, Russia, Uzbekistan, Scandinavia, and the good ole' USA. I have always wanted to see Maine and Upstate NY. Doubt we will ever make those but I can dream. We have loved our 3 cruises ... 2 to the Carribean and 1 up the Mississippi River on the old fashion paddleboat called the Delta Queen. That was so much fun .. one week of lazy river and visiting the cities along the way. From New Orleans up to Minnesota. Met such lovely people on board and had a ball. Maybe I have to do a post on that SOON, now that I am thinking about it.
Sue
I do love the Redwoods and really hope we can head north to see them again but its only if someone else drives us. Dave just can't do it anymore.
I do hope your Honey will be well enough to go on your trip to see family.
I like your cruise ship. With all the things happening with the ships around the world, I'm not sure we'll go on another cruise either.
ReplyDelete1. The farthest I've traveled is Japan several times to visit Alex and tour the entire country with him. He made an excellent tour guide. Very knowledgeable. Of course London too. Hubby has been all over the middle east, Egypt, Turkey, Romania, Croatia, Ukraine, Russia, Ireland, Scotland, England and much of Africa. I know I've forgotton a lot and goodness! He has some interesting stories to tell of attempted kidnappings and hotel room break-ins. I'm glad he's retired and doesn't travel anymore except with me.
2. We truly miss Spokane in the summer with no humidity. And our friends and church family. We would love to live there in the warm months and down south in the winter but we know we'll never move back to Spokane...just visit. Winter though, we may attempt it this year.
3. I've shared lots of stories and photos on my blog. :-)
4. Dennis and I have always wanted to go to Italy together and our son and DIL want to go with us sometime. However, with the state of the world, traveling isn't as much fun as it used to be.
I hope your Wednesday is going well.
Blessings,
Betsy
Hi Pam. Looks like you have some nice travel memories. I love that cute picture of you in your Kayak. We like to do road trips and I will fly if it is absolutely necessary, but I really don't enjoy the whole process of flying. We aren't really ocean cruise people either. We've been to well over half the states from New York to Hawaii, and I traveled to Mexico (Mexico City and Acapulco) when I was a teenager. Maybe when I retire, we will plan a trip to Europe. We shall see. I enjoyed this post. I hope you are having a good week. See you again soon!
ReplyDeleteI sure love that picture of you in the kayak.. my dear Sam says he will never again go on a cruise!! I enjoy them, but there are way too many people on a cruise ship for him. My favorite places to visit were Hawaii and Alaska . But..I’m happy in texas too!! I wouldn’t mind living in northern georgia .. I honestly like the mountains.. enjoyed this cute post
