Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Sunday Evening Randomness
Good Sunday Evening friends! I hope you've had a pleasant day today, taking time to spend time in worship of the Lord, and resting from your week's labors. We've had a chilly, but lovely sunny day. Started out this morning at 27 degrees! Thankfully it warmed up to 56, but it's expected to be back down to 27 again tomorrow morning! Yes, here in sunny Florida! Here's a picture of the sunset on Still Waters Pond a little while ago. You can't see them in this picture, but a flock of geese had just landed on the pond a few minutes before, with a lot of honking and splashing about, and then they swam around the island to settle in for the night I guess. Peaceful end to a peaceful day.
I thought I'd share a few random photos from this past week, some from here at home, and a few leftovers from our trip to Georgia that I haven't shared previously. I'll kind of be working in reverse...
On Thursday and Friday nights I had the joy and privilege to wear this ring while I tried to sleep. Yes, this is a sleep apnea testing machine!
Oh how times have changed since you had to go spend the night at a sleep testing center, all wired up with electrodes to your chest and brain to determine if you were experiencing sleep apnea. Now they just send this little electronic ring in the mail, and you have to sync it with your cell phone via bluetooth, and wear this on your finger while you sleep and it records your breathing (or not breathing, as the case may be). No awful electrodes attached, no cannula in your nose...no machine whirring keeping you awake...just this ring, which glows red in the dark, and keep your cell phone plugged in nearby, and you are good to go. After doing this two nights in a row I had to package the ring back up and send it back in the package via UPS, their label provided. Hopefully the report has already been uploaded to whomever via the cell phone app that I had to download, and then they will report to my Doctor and determine if I need to wear a cpap machine or not. I don't want to, believe me. I am claustrophobic and hate having anything over my nose or mouth anytime, but we shall see what develops.
On a more pleasant note, earlier this week we took a walk to our usual walking path, and discovered that the wild plum trees are blooming already!!
Now, going back to Georgia, we saw this painting of "The Rapture", which was displayed in the historical museum in the old county courthouse in Blairsville, GA.
Below is a description of why the painting was there. I love that you can see the people flying up into the air to meet the Lord in the sky. This was supposed to be a depiction of the way it would look in the area of Blairsville, up in the mountains of Ga., back in the 1940's. We, as believers in Christ, are still looking forward to that day when we will meet the Lord in the air, and we hope that it is soon.(I Thessalonians 4:1-18)
Now, in another building in the same town, in a little gift shop, was found this plaque and this wall of magazine pages from the 1960's. Read below to explain, and then look at the pictures to see what you can find:
Recognize her?
Of course, this photo was taken way back when Bill Cosby was still considered
a great comedian and nice guy. Little did we know.
Who remembers Hires Root Beer?
It was fun walking down memory lane. Of course I was very young in the 1960's...
Oh, I thought I'd include a couple of photos from the bathrooms of the cabin we rented for the weekend. Thought you might enjoy seeing how they made the sink cabinets ...
And in case you missed church today and would like to visit ours, here's the message from today, taken from Romans 12:3-21, "Taking Steps in a Positive Direction". The choir is singing "Praise Him! Praise Him!" at the beginning.
Here's a few excerpts from the verses quoted in the passage for the message:
Romans 12:9-16a
"9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
16 Live in harmony with one another..."
Some good thoughts to end this post for tonight.
God bless you all, and have a wonderful week ahead!

I really enjoyed reading about the picture of the rapture. He first painted it on plywood, wow!! The pictures you shared from the museum were interesting and I did see Steve McQueen! The pictures you share of Still Waters Pond are always so pretty, whether morning or evening. Natural beauty made by God, I can only imagine being beside the pond and visiting with our Lord.
ReplyDeleteYes, the Rapture picture was so neat. I loved it. I'm glad you enjoyed all the other pictures as well. It was an interesting trip and also God has blessed us with beautiful views everywhere...we just need to look! Have a blessed and wonderful rest of your week.
DeleteThe wild plum blossoms are very pretty. I also love the serene bathroom decor at the cabin. I've never seen the oximetry ring before but I have undergone the testing at the sleep laboratory and used an oximetry tester that you wear on the finger.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what the new technology can do to make things easier for us. I hope it gets the right results...like I hope I don't need the cpap machine. We shall see what develops!
DeleteI loved following you on your recent trip! And I would LOVE to have that sink made from a dresser!! And a bathroom to go with it!
ReplyDeleteI may do that sleep test now that it's not so involved. It used to be a nightmare of an ordeal!
Wishing you a wonderful new week!
Yes, the sleep test was much easier than the way they used to do it. I don't have the results yet, but I'm glad least I didn't have to go spend the night somewhere. LOL.
DeleteAwesome photos, and I loveeeeeeeeeee those bathrooms. Wishing you a beautiful week. smiles
ReplyDeleteYes, the bathrooms were pretty neat. I like the one with the buffet for a vanity. My niece has one like that at her house. It's pretty cool. Yes, the sleep test wasn't all that bad, but I still couldn't sleep. Just the idea of it made me wakeful. Oh well. I just hope I don't have to wear a cpap.

DeleteIt's nice to have a phone or camera to capture some of the fun things you see from day to day. I love the bathroom! Hope the ring helps you figure out your sleeping. Enjoy your day...should be beautiful weather!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diane. It was lovely today after it warmed up a bit. I hope you got to take a hike. Yes, I love to take pictures of everything I see that looks interesting. When they created the digital camera it was like giving me a new toy and outlook on life! Of course, I never print my pictures anymore, but they are here for all to see and enjoy.
DeleteWow, that sleep ring is something else! My son had to check himself in for a sleep study last year and didn't enjoy the experience one bit. Praying you won't have to be outfitted with a cPAP! These images from the historical museum make me want to put it on my 'to do' list. That, and the yummy-sounding pot of jam. Was it as good as it sounds? Hope you're warming up down there and having a super Monday!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Myra. The sleep ring test wasn't bad, but I still was wakeful a lot during the night. Too much anxiety over it I guess. I am hoping the results will be that they ought to just knock me out and let me sleep from now on. LOL. The blackberry jam was good. It also had cranberry juice in it, so it wasn't overly sweet, which I liked. It is trying to warm up, but was still 27 this morning. Tomorrow will be 33. It's winter. What can I say? LOL>
DeleteWhat I would have given to not have had to go be plugged into all that stuff and sleep in a strange place. Hope your results will be good. I know have a Cpap, but it's not too terrible. lol Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteYes, I was very thankful for the new technology that made it possible for me to sleep in my own bed with only a ring on my finger. I still didn't sleep all that well...just the thought of something "foreign" on my body made me very wakeful. We shall see what the results will be. Probably they will say I need a knockout drug! LOL.
DeleteLoved your random photos, Pamela! That painting of the Rapture is so unique; I love it. Hoping the freeze doesn't literally nip the plum blossoms in the bud. They are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Maybe I will go take a walk tomorrow to see how the plum blossoms look. They are wild plums, so only the birds and critters eat them anyway, but still, I hate to see them "nipped in the bud" literally. Hope you had a great day too.
DeleteI like that 3D picture of the cabin! And all those magazine pictures. Definitely a trip down memory lane.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a trip down memory lane for sure. It was fun. It was a very nice weekend, in spite of the fact it was for a celebration of life for a loved one. We know where he is, and he would want us to have enjoyed it.
DeleteThat ring to determine if you have sleep apnea -- what a great idea!!! Have you seen on TV the commercial that you can buy a thing for $99 that just by touching it with your fingers, it gives you an EKG? That, too, is amazing.
ReplyDeleteIf you have sleep apnea, I hope you can get that implant they advertise on TV so a mask is not necessary.
I agree with you about the implant, but not sure I really want something implanted in my body...I'd have to really think about that and pray about it first. Depends on how badly I really need this treatment.
DeleteThat is very interesting about the test at home. I'm surprised the trees are blooming. The jelly sounds yummy. That is a sweet painting. Those cabin photos are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debby. Yes, I thought the plum tree blossoms were early, but if I look back at my pictures from previous years, that seems to be about right. They are wild plums and don't get very big or sweet. The birds and critters like them, however. The jelly was good. It was blackberry and cranberry juice. Not overly sweet.
DeleteTechnology certainly is amazing, Pam, and hope that wearing that sleep apnea testing ring produced informative results. A friend of mine had to use a CPAP unit and she never liked it either. Hopefully, you will be able to avoid that. The wall coverings were interesting and yes I recall Hires root beer even if I didn't drink it.
ReplyDeleteOh, did you drink A&W Root beer? That was my favorite, but you had to go to their drive-in place to get it. Now you can buy it in cans. I do remember Hires, and we probably did drink it. I'm a root beer fan more than coke or other sodas.
DeleteThanks for the photos - That rapture painting is neat.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has sleep apnea - fortunately I don't. I too would hate it and for the same reasons. Plus they mash down your hair or leave lines. I don't like anything obstructing my sleep.
Thank you. I agree with you regarding the cpap. Praying I don't need it.
DeleteI am sorry to be late getting here, Pam! That jelly looks and sounds very good! Not sure about the moonshine jelly! Wow! I do remember Hires Root Beer and the plum trees are beautiful!! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteNot too late. I'm still up and at 'em. Hope you had a good day. the jelly is good! Good night!
DeleteOh man, I sure hope you don’t need the CPA’s, sounds awful! I really love the magazine wall. Isn’t it so 60’s of someone to do that? Very cool!
