Friday Foto Friends ~ Humbled and Blessed

Happy Friday, Friends!  Time for some "fotos" from the week, and yes, I actually have a few this week!

Can you guess where we were yesterday?  Maybe these lovely ladies serenading us on the mandolin by the light of the moon with a basket of beautiful flowers (lilacs, maybe?) will give you a clue!

Or perhaps this cute Flapper Girl, enjoying a delicious Sundae with a cherry on top will help you to figure it out...

Perhaps this handsome fella sitting on the rocking chairs on the "front porch" will give you a better clue...

Give up? Well, maybe seeing these two smiling faces from their rocking chairs on the front porch will certainly give it away! Of course! We were at Cracker Barrel! Now if you live in an area of the country where they don't have a Cracker Barrel, I am truly sorry for you!

Anyway, yes, we were enjoying a late breakfast yesterday morning at Cracker Barrel in between my appointments at the Univ. of Florida Neuromedicine Hospital in Gainesville, FL.  We had a lot of time to kill in between appointments.  My first appt. with the neurosurgeon was at 9:30 a.m., and then he sent me for more x-rays, and after that I was blessed to actually get an appointment at 2:30 p.m. for a Nerve Conduction Velocity test, followed by and Electromyography Test (EMG). I say "blessed" because this appointment only became available due to a cancellation that morning. Otherwise, the next available appointment would not be until December!  So, even though it meant a long wait, we knew we could not pass up on that opportunity.

Therefore, hubby and I spent the intervening time enjoying a late breakfast because they did not serve lunch until 11:00 and we got there at 10:30. After that we shopped a little in the store of the Cracker Barrel, and then went on to do a little more shopping at a couple of other stores in a nearby shopping center.  After that we went back to the hospital to just wait it out...and it turned out my 2:30 appointment did not actually happen until about 3:30, so it really was a long wait.

While we waited for my appointment we had time to just sit and observe people around us. I can tell you it was a humbling experience. My problems seem so small when I see what others have to live  and deal with in their lives. One young woman in a wheelchair, totally incapacitated and who could only make low guttural sounds to make her needs known, was being lovingly cared for by, I assume her mother, who had to be at least my age.  After watching this dear soul for a while from a distance, we both concluded that she was actually an intelligent young woman, trapped in a physical body that she had no control over. It was very heart breaking, and as I said, humbling.  Her image has not left my mind even yet this morning, and so I lift up a prayer for her and her mother, that God would somehow brighten their day and give them a sense of His presence and peace in their lives.

Regarding my own situation, I will have to wait on the neurosurgeon to get back to me with the results of the tests to determine what is next. His first thought before seeing the test results was that he does NOT think I am a candidate for surgery yet.  However, from what I was able to ascertain from the neurologist conducting the nerve tests, there is nerve damage in my arm, and so something will have to be addressed. I will wait and see just what that "something" will be.  Meanwhile, I guess I keep going to physical therapy...

So now for some more happy photos from my back yard on Still Waters Pond:

The Sand Hill Crane Family flew in again for some dessert. It was fun to watch them poking around in the grass, digging up whatever it is they like so much.

There actually were three of them, the mother, father, and grown baby, but it was hard to get all three of them together in one photo.

I always feel honored when they come to visit.

We do enjoy what God provides to bring some beauty and joy to our days.

And that would include this Rose of Sharon, that continues to blossom in the "Secret Memorial Garden".

The leaves are starting to turn yellow from the heat and sun and also because it is "fall" approaching. But even that variegated color is lovely, don't you think?

And these little red maple leaves are growing up from the stump of the tree that was cut down recently when we had some tree work done. I was not thrilled that they cut down this tree, but they were trying to open up more light into that area so the trees in the "secret garden" could get more sunshine and actually be healthier.  However, I intend to let this maple tree just grow right back up if it so pleases.  It looks like it wants to, don't you agree???

Oh look! We have a new inhabitant in the birdhouse!!! Actually, there are two interesting creatures on this picture!! I wonder who would win that battle...the lizard or the wasp?

Yes, this lizard has taken up residence in the Bluebird house. He pokes his head out throughout the day to catch some bugs and say hello!

He has claimed it as his own, but when the bluebirds come back to roost in the spring I hope he knows he will have to move out!!! This is their house, and he is just a squatter who has no proper lease!
But I guess it's okay for him to stay and take care of the place until they return.
Even little lizards need a warm, dry place to live.

Here's some thoughts for today:

Romans 12:9-16
9.  "Let love be without hypocrisy.
Abhor what is evil,
cling to what is good.
10.  Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love,
in honor giving preference to one another;
11.  not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;
12.  Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer;
13.  distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
14.  Bless those who persecute you;
bless and do not curse.
15.  Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.
16.  Be of the same mind toward one another.
Do not set your mind on high things,
but associate with the humble.
Do not be wise in your own opinion."

Thank You, Lord, for these thoughts and lessons today.
I am humbled and blessed.

  1. Once I saw John and the rocking chairs, I knew y'all were at Cracker Barrel, Pamela. I haven't eaten there in ages, but do love going. Thanks for the detailed info on your neck situation. Know I'll keep right on praying for healing for you! And as always, your photos are lovely. The sand hill cranes are quite majestic.
    Have a blessed weekend!

    1. Thank you, Martha. I think everyone who knows about it loves Cracker Barrel. I love the store as much as I love the food, maybe even more! And who could pass by an open rocking chair on a front porch on a lovely day? Thank you for you prayers and concern. I know God has a plan. I hope your weekend is blessed as well. Thank you.

  2. I guess Cracker Barrel by the lattice board behind the pictures:)
    I am so glad you were able to get all those tests done. And yes, when we look around our problems always seem smaller. I do hope your little maple comes back up. IT just might next year for sure.
    Take care and prayers for the right direction on your neck.

    1. Thank you, Sandy. Yes, I am glad to have those tests over and done with. They were not very pleasant...shocking and piercing!! Oh MY!! I do hope they will lead to some answers as well. And yes, I also hope the maple will keep on growing, regardless of whether or not it is in the best spot. I love it!! It's out little bit of autumn color in the fall!

    1. Thank you, Linda. Well, you know what you can do about "no CB"...you can move where there IS one! LOL. I know you will do what is best in God's time. Thank you for your prayers. I will continue to pray for you as well.

  4. You found good ways to while away the hours waiting for that important appt. We may not know exactly what is needed for the nerve damage, but The Lord does. Perhaps it is as simple as time to heal.

    The post before this about the old dresser was very interesting. I like the way things were all jumbled up, but then you got them sorted. Story of my life. ☺️

    1. Thank you, Vee. Yes, it was nice to do a little leisurely shopping for nothing in particular. Not my hubby's favorite thing to do, but he was gracious and allowed me some "time" to poke around awhile before I had to go back and be "poked" on, literally. I hope you are correct that time to heal may do the trick. That would be lovely. I am waiting on the Lord for whatever He says is best. Oh, I am glad you enjoyed the story about the dresser. Wasn't that fun? We just never know what stories are stored up in an old piece of furniture. I tend to view old furniture as someone's old friend who held all their special "treasures" while they needed it, and now it can hold mine...and perhaps it will share its secrets with me as time goes by. Every piece is a piece of someone's history. Yes, we all have "jumbled up" stories in life...that's what makes life interesting!

  5. I am thankful that you did not have to wait until Dec. for tests but I know yesterday was a long day. I pray that you will get the answers you need very soon. Keep me posted.

    1. Thank you, Mildred. I appreciate your prayers so much. Yes, it was a long day, but I am so thankful God worked it all out so we could get it all done at once and not have to keep going back and waiting. You know what that is like all too well. Praying for you, my dear friend. I hope you are doing okay in between your treatments. You are very much on my heart and mind. (((hugs)))

  6. Oh, I am praying for you, Pamela! Be well.

    "Bless those who persecute you;
    bless and do not curse."

    Amen to that! Very important in these days we are living.

    P.S. My money's on the lizard!

    1. Thank you so much, Sandi. And yes, I agree with your "Amen!". And I like your "bet" on the lizard! I bet he could take care of that wasp too. I don't see the wasp around his house anymore...maybe he already did...

  7. I'm glad you got the appointments out of the way. Even before the plandemic it was getting hard to see Doctors on time because Obama messed with our excellent healthcare plans. Glad this all worked out for ya.
    We have a Cracker Barrel in Waycross. I stay outta there 'cause I'll spend all my money there. LOL
    Wonderful photos.
    Blessings. xx

    1. Thank you Sparky. I am thankful it all came together, and now just to wait on whatever the next step is. Praying for God to take care of it for me. I tried really hard to spend some money in CB yesterday, but like everywhere else, their prices have gone up on things too. I just looked and thought..."I'll wait til they go on sale." LOL. But it was fun looking.

  8. I love Cracker Barrel, we have one in the next city which isn't far at all. A trip there is usually saved for special occasions. Great pictures of the Sand Hill family, it must be very relaxing to sit and watch them. Sending you prayers of healing and that your pain goes away. Hugs and Blessings!

    1. Thank you, Mary. I appreciate your prayers most of all. I am beginning to think that is the ONLY way to take care of this. I know God is able, and perhaps I just need to let go and let God take it away. I really don't NEED this pain, nor do I want it. So why am I holding on to it? Thank you for your prayers of healing. I am very grateful. Hugs and blessings to you as well.

  9. Love the pictures from your yard as always. I love all the creatures you see and the Rose of Sharon is beautiful. We have some neighbors that have them in our neighborhood. Yep, I think you're going to have a beautiful Maple tree there again.

    I love Cracker Barrel and actually have 2 of their rockers on our front porch. We bought them long ago and our oldest painted them black for us a few years back. Still love them.

    Hope from all your tests, the neuro guys will be able to figure out what to do to help your pain to leave.

    Take care and have a great week.

    1. Thank you, Cathy. I hope you are right about the maple tree! It is right beside the pond, so I know it likes that location. Maybe it will grow back up even prettier than before! Oh, how wonderful you have two rockers on your porch from CB. I had one at our last house on the front porch, but I gave it to my DIL when we moved here because we did not have a covered porch. Now we DO have a covered porch again since we covered the deck, but no rocker! Maybe someday I will splurge and get another one. I bet yours are pretty. You should take some pictures and show us! Thank you for the good thoughts about the "neuro guys". I hope you are right. If surgery isn't an option, then I don't know what else. PT really isn't helping the pain that much, so I'm not sure. I know God is able, so I will wait on Him to show me the way. Thank you for your kind notes.

  11. The front porch rocking chairs always give it away! Cracker Barrel is sure one of the best places to dine (and shop!). I'm so glad you got that appointment, Pam. Seems like it was meant to be. Hope you get results and some plan for healing soon! Love you, dear friend! xo

  13. Cracker Barrel is one of my favorite places to just look around at everything. I’ve actually found some cute tops that were different and I really enjoy wearing. I’m glad you got your appointment, but isn’t it crazy how we hurry up and wait? One of my dearest friends has a daughter she’s been caring for like that since 2006. Her daughter is very intelligent, and very grateful to her parents to take care of her. I love that passage of scripture. That last line, I love the Message translation that says “don’t think you know it all“.

    1. Thank you, Nonnie. Yes, CB is a fun place to shop for holiday decor items and just fun stuff. I always love to poke around in there and see what's new. Regarding the dear "child"...Blessed are those who are caregivers...may God bless them and give them the strength and love and stamina to keep moving forward...and the peace of mind and heart that God is with them and will help them in all the days to come. Oh, good translation, "Don't think you know it all." Boy, does that ever hit me between the eyes sometimes!! I've had to be reminded of that many times. Very humbling indeed. Have a blessed and wonderful day.

  14. I've never been to Cracker Barrel as we don't have them where I live. I'm glad you and your husband were able to pass the time in a useful (eating) way while you waited for your appointment. It is a huge blessing that you were able to get two appointments on the same day despite the waiting around bit. I know what a hassle it is to have to wait for appointments and it sounds like you had to drive to another town to have your appointments. You're so right about being grateful for what we deal with because when we look around, there is always someone who has it much tougher. I feel for people who care for the disabled loved ones and they worry what will happen to them when they are no longer around to care for them.xx

    1. Thank you, Penny. The Cracker Barrel started out as a "southern style" of family restaurant, but now it is all over the U.S. It's a fun place with a great little country store where you can buy all kinds of fun things. I can't believe I didn't buy a thing except a big shopping bag for Christmas gifts...they are only $1.99 and so handy for many things! Yes, our Dr.'s office is about an hour from home, so it was not feasible to go home in between appointments. It was a long day, but so glad we got it all done in one day. Yes, my heart goes out to those who have dear loved ones that they must care for, often without much help. May God give them the extra strength and love and stamina that is needed for each day...and a peace about the future as well. Thank you for your kind words. have a blessed and beautiful day.

  15. Well, darn. I've no idea what happened to yesterday's comment, but it must have fallen prey to the internet gremlins. Oh well, it just gives me another opportunity to lift my prayers for that sweet girl and her mother you witnessed. I think I know what love and sacrifice is, but gosh -- that one's difficult to wrap my head around.

    Before I go any further ...LOVE this picture of you and John. Frame-worthy! How fortunate that second appointment opened up when it did. I'll be keenly interested in what they mean by 'addressed.' Oh, and that lizard! The second photo just begs for a caption doesn't it? I mean, the expression on it's face ... I can't even!

    1. Thank you, Myra, for your thoughts even if you did have to repeat them. It is always wonderful to hear from you. Thank you for your kind thoughts regarding the young lady and her mother (hubby thinks it was her care-giver, not her mother, but either way, she was dedicated and caring, and that says a lot to me!) Anyway, I can't get her out of my mind either. She actually looked right at us as she was wheeled by. Her eyes showed interest and intellect. We were studying a big abstract painting on the wall, trying to see the real "picture" inside the layers of paint, talking about it and wondering just what the artist was trying to tell us. She turned her head and looked first at us, and then at the painting, as if she understood what we were doing. It really really touched my heart. Perhaps she could see the true beauty hidden in that canvas that we were trying hard to decipher. It was humbling indeed. Oh, yes, I am anxious to find out how they will "address" my situation. I hope they don't wait too long to figure it out. And yes, the lizard is comical. Today a chickadee flew onto that house and pecked around as if he was checking it out for possible habitation. The lizard stayed hidden inside until the bird flew away, and then he came out and looked all around as if to say, "whew! that was a close one!" I love God's creation outside my window. Never a dull moment. Have a blessed and wonderful weekend.

  16. "Wait" Don't we all dislike hearing that word and yet it's a common requirement for anything we want to do. I hope the results come out to whatever would be most favorable for you and to give you relief from pain.

    1. Yes, "wait" is a word I have had to deal with throughout my life, as I am sure you have also. I always want God's timing to coincide with "my timing", but when all is said and done, I am always thankful that "God's Timing" was the one that turned out to be for the best. He knows from start to finish what is best. I just need to trust Him to work it out. Thank you for your prayers and kind thoughts. You are a blessing.
