Tuesday 4: The Wild West

The Wild West

It's time for Tuesday 4 an invention of our late friend Toni Taddeo.

Let's talk about The Wild West!

1. Do you have a favorite TV western you enjoyed? Tell us about it.

Seems like I watched a lot of TV westerns growing up.  I remember watching The Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Gene Autrey, Zorro, Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Wyatt Earp, and Bonanza.  There were more I am sure. Rin Tin Tin, Fury, Sky King. Bonanza was the first one I ever saw in color at my Aunt Margie and Uncle Ed's house in Crafton (Pittsburgh) Pa.  I thought they must be really rich to have a color TV. We didn't have one for a long time. I was probably 10 years old.

2. Lots of western movies... which was one you enjoyed?

Gosh, I can't think of just one. I did kind of like the Clint Eastwood movies, and the John Wayne movies, and anything with Jimmy Stewart, Gregory Peck, Gary Cooper.  I really can't narrow it down to just one.  I just asked my hubby for his answer to this, and he said he really liked High Noon with Gary Cooper, and Shane with Alan Ladd.  I didn't like Shane...it was sad.  But High Noon was a good one with Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly.

3. John Wayne was in many westerns and had many fans. What actor is your favorite?

Well, I did enjoy John Wayne for sure.  But probably my favorite actor is Gregory Peck. I just can't think of any particular westerns he was in, but if he was in it, I liked it.  Gregory Peck reminds me of my Grandpa Tedlie. His voice is very similar, and every time I hear him in a movie, I think of my Grandpa. He was good looking like him too when he was very young. At least I think so.

4. You are going to have to move to a western state that has cowboys! Which state will you choose and why?

I would love to check out Wyoming or Montana.  Just not sure about the winters up there! But I love the idea of living there. Are those considered "western states"?    Maybe North Western?   They have cowboys, don't they?
Wyoming

Montana

Of course, people don't realize that Florida also has cowboys.

Here is a link to tell you more about  it:  The History of the Florida Cracker Cowboys

And even though Florida isn't a "western state", it's where I live, and right now I'd rather be here than anywhere else!

Thank you, Annie, for continuing the Tuesday 4 tradition started by our friend Toni Taddeo. I know she would be pleased to see it still happening each week!!

Y'all have a nice day, you hear??

  1. As I mentioned to Terri on her Tuesday 4, I was never a big fan of Westerns, although I've watched a few good ones. Yes, I think your grandfather DOES resemble Gregory Peck. Two good looking men, that's for sure!
    Blessings, Pamela!

  2. Good morning Pamela,
It's been a very long time since I commented on your blog (I have been reading it though..sorry) but with this one about the west I had to 'cause I love westerns.
First, I do want to say how glad and relieved I am that your children are feeling better, and I've prayed for them, and you. I hope everyone's health continues to improve.
As a child I loved Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. And I remember watching W. Earp, Lone Ranger and Rin Tin Tin. One of my favorite movies is "The Big Country" with G. Peck and C. Heston..But I have to admit, as old as I am now, I'm a diehard fan of "Gunsmoke". (Miss Kitty is my hero!)
I've never seen Wyoming or Montana, but like you, I would love to. Both look so beautiful.
    Do take care.
    Blessings, Linda

  3. Good morning, Pam! Boy, your answer to #1 sure resonates. I'll never forget going with my mother to the next door neighbor's house where the opening scenes from Bonanza were playing IN COLOR. My 10-y/o self was mesmerized!

Ya, Gregory Peck was a handsome dude; how neat he evokes memories of your grandfather! I never heard of the Florida Cracker Cowboys, but will be checking out the link. (Every day's a school day!)

    Have yourself a blessed one!

  4. I remember those Westerns, too. They were so popular, and then they just petered out, I think in favor of cop shows and detective shows, maybe. I remember Gunsmoke and Bonanza the best. Montana and Wyoming sure do have cowboys. I had a friend who grew up on a ranch there and she was a cowgirl, I guess, riding sometimes for over a day and still on their own ranch land. I didn't know that about the Florida Cracker Cowboys!

  5. Hey, your Grandpa does look a lot like Gregory Peck! How cool is that!?
I'm not much into Westerns. Never have been but there's a couple of films that are worth a watch: Silverado, True Grit (John Wayne), Open Range, to name a couple. I do like Robert Duvall. He's a true thespian.
I think y'all would enjoy a visit out West. It is beyond definition in beauty. I love it there.
    Blessings. xx

As for travel to a place to find cowboys, Colorado, of course!

  7. Hi Pam, I enjoyed my visit. Love the old school actors. I remember seeing Wizard of Oz for the first time in color. A lot of the neighborhood kids came over since we were one of the first to have a color TV. Have a great week!

  9. I loved all the tv westerns you mentioned. I remember being in love with Roy Rogers when I was just 7 yrs old, and I was constantly singing 'Happy Trails to You.' I bet my family got tired of hearing it! lol Yes I do see a slight resemblance between your Grandpa and Gregory Peck. There are cowboys in many of our states, wasn't every man a cowboy back in the day? :) smiles!

  10. Your grandpa was quite handsome and there is a resemblance!! The first time I saw anything on color TV it was The Wizard of Oz my my friend's house. I thought they were rich too. It was a couple more years before we got a color TV! Fun answers, Pam! xo

  11. This is just something I can’t relate to. I never watched TV until after I was married. My parents did not own a TV until much later.

  14. Obviously I have seen Westerns but I didn't really grow up with them. My husband loves Westerns. I have enjoyed some of the newer ones. Yes Montana and Wyoming are both beautiful states to be a cowboy!
