Tuesday 4: Interests and Hobbies

Interests and Hobbies

Welcome to Tuesday 4 kept up in honor of Toni Taddeo. Let's talk today about your interests and hobbies.

Here is a Previous post about HOBBIES that I did last year. I don't know that anything much has changed, but I will try to update what I wrote before.

1. What are your interests and hobbies? .. reading? writing? collecting?

My most active hobbies would be writing this blog and trying to keep up with all my blogging friends! That can be a full time hobby in itself, but it is wonderful getting to know others here and making new friends, albeit we are mostly long-distance friends, but with the "miracle" of the internet, the distances don't seem so far.

This past year I have taken on an additional blog, The Adventures of Lily Grace, which happened when one of our dear blogging friends gifted me with the lovely surprise of "Lily Grace" in the mail! And now it seems like Lily Grace has taken over our home by a whirlwind of fun and activity. However, lately I've been remiss in sharing any of her adventures, mostly because we just haven't had too many lately. But she is still "alive and well", so to speak, and hopefully we will get back to having some adventures soon. She had hoped to participate in the recent graduation celebration of our nephew, but when we arrived at his home for the party we discovered that he had many of his high school friends visiting, and we thought perhaps it might be embarrassing for him to introduce Lily to his friends...so she sadly spent the afternoon waiting for us in the car. Thankfully we were able to find a shady spot to park.

So moving right along to other hobbies and interests, if you've known me long you know I love photographing nature, and well, most anything that will stand still long enough for me to take its picture. That includes family and friends as well.  This beautiful male cardinal stopped by for a brief moment yesterday.

And we've been joyfully watching Mr. and Mrs. Bluebird team-feeding their babies in this birdhouse finally! We haven't actually seen the babies, but judging by their constant activity going to and from with bugs in their mouths, we can assume there must be some hungry babies waiting inside:

This is Mrs. Bluebird coming back out of the nest, checking to see if the coast is clear before she goes.

Hello there Mrs. Bluebird!

And dutiful Mr. Bluebird soon arrives with a beak full of something yummy for the youngsters:

Hello Mr. Bluebird! Those little grasshoppers don't stand a chance with you around!

I also love to sit in The Secret Memorial Garden and enjoy my new swing while I listen to the birds and enjoy the gentle breeze :

And check on the progress of flowers growing, like the Rose of Sharon bush that we transplanted here from our previous home:

It's blooming quite profusely now that it has found it's "forever home".

Well,  I am sure most of you already know of my passion for collecting most anything that seems to remind me of loved ones or vintage dishes, linens, teapots and teacups, old books, you name it, I've probably got it.
Most recent  "flea market finds" you've already seen

This stunning dessert plate with the 22k gold trim...

The Apple tree Franciscan ware teapot that I THINK was my grandmother's dish pattern...

The infamous colander helmet!

And the re-discovery of these bluebird pillowcases that had been lost for almost two years and found in a bag hidden in the back of my son's closet, buried under who knows what!!

Now they are back where they belong on the guest bed, and Lily Grace is entertaining her new friends and teaching them songs with her guitar...

2 How much time a week/day/month do you devote to your interests?
Well,  judging by these pictures and stories above, probably most of my days are spent enjoying one or the other of these pass times.  When I'm not out taking walks with my hubby,  or cooking or baking with Lily, and going to church....

3. Do you share your interests with anyone?
I guess I've shared them here with you all every time I write a post!

4.Tell us why you enjoy your hobby, pastimes or interests.

I enjoy capturing pictures of God's beautiful world and sharing it with anyone who wants to enjoy it with me.  I enjoy writing about family, memories from the past, oh! I almost forgot...geneaology has become a passion this past year...but I've told you about that already in previous posts...it was wonderful discovering more about my ancestors, especially those no one ever had the chance to know because my paternal grandmother was adopted as an infant....You can read more about "Elva's Story" HERE.  I've done a few updates on that since its original posting.

I just enjoy life and sharing God's wonders with you all. That is my passion...sharing God's love and beauty!!

That pretty well sums it up. This came from a little devotional book my friend "Auntie Opal" gave to "Lily Grace" because it is entitled "Choose Grace".

I hope you enjoyed this little visit today. I look forward to learning more about your hobbies and interests too.   Thank you, Annie, for continuing this Tuesday 4 in memory of our friend Toni Taddeo.

    1. Thank you for visiting, Gloria. I love old movies, but I find I don't like to sit still that long to watch them! LOL. Plus, I don't like to watch movies alone, and my hubby doesn't always like to watch the same stuff I do. So we've been watching some British mysteries together lately, and that has been enjoyable. I haven't seen a Nintendo since our kids were young. Do they still make that? I am way behind the times when it comes to games and such. LOL. I hope you have a good week too.

  2. Great post, Pamela! Isn't it wonderful to have such enjoyable hobbies? I love reading, writing the blog, and enjoying God's creation each day. There are always new surprises! Glad to know, too, that the bluebirds actually came to stay.
    Blessings!

    1. Thank you, Martha. Yes, I do enjoy the things I have found to do since retirement. Writing and reading and visiting with good friends like you makes my day! I will be praying for your hubby this week too...It is good to have friends who will pray for each other as well. Thank you for being that kind of friend!

  3. Yeay for Mr. and Mrs. Bluebird and their new babies! This makes my heart so happy!
In spite of her years, I do believe Lily Grace is a wise soul, and fully understands why she was asked to remain in the car. That was a sweet thing to do, my friend.

Your photography always inspires me; and now, I can't wait to start hunting for forgetten treasure, too!

    1. Yes, I am really wishing the bluebird house had a clear side so I could see the babies inside! I do hope I will get a glimpse of them before they leave the nest. We are trusting that since we moved their house to a safer location they will not meet the same fate as before. Ha Ha, yes, "in spite of her years", Lily Grace is a very wise soul! She's such a good girl. She's just getting impatient with me for not having her own post here lately. Maybe tomorrow we will surprise you all with something! Oh, be sure to share what lost or forgotten treasure you may discover!! Have a blessed day my friend.

    1. Thank you, Annie. Yes, it can be time consuming, but all good friendships are worth the effort and time. Thank you for setting this up to help us all have this little get together each week. It's fun to see what others like to do as well. Hope you are having a better week.

  5. Well done. Love the pics, especially the birds!! Really enjoyed the post. You know, I forgot that one of my hobbies or interests is the blog, writing and digital photography. Brain fade from old age you know ... *lol*
Blessings to you all my friend. xx

    1. Brain fade is something I've been struggling with here lately. Just can't seem to keep the old brain stimulated as much as necessary to be cohesive and intelligent in my writing. That's why I rely on pictures so much. They can tell the story better than my feeble attempts at writing. Yes, digital photography opened up a whole new world for me. I don't have to worry about wasting film anymore!! LOL. Blessings to you too!! I love that outhouse!

  6. Loving all your photos, as always. Seeing your Franciscan tea pot brought back memories of my favorite aunt. That was her good china pattern. Oh, and I feel a bit better knowing you haven't been doing much posting because I haven't been able to get to much visiting of blogs in the last week or so. I guess that would be a hobby of sorts for me, too, though not as much as it was in the earlier days. I hope you're having a blessed and beautiful week!

    1. Thank you, Stacy. Honestly, I still think we're related somehow. LOL. Especially the collecting stuff...it's definitely a genetic thing. I enjoyed your last post. Sometimes we just need to let our minds rest and come up with something new and fresh. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. Have a blessed week.

  7. The Cardinal and blue birds are beautiful. I am enjoying the blue birds in my bird house too. You and I share many of the same hobbies. It is always delightful to make new friends through blogging. I love your flea market finds. And your church is so pretty in your photos. I wish you and Lily a wonderful evening.

    1. Thank you, Mildred. Do you know if your bluebirds have babies yet? I wish we could see them in the birdhouse. I'm afraid to get too close for fear Mr.Bluebird will bop me on the head! I've watched him bop the squirrel for getting too close, and chase away other birds. And yes, I am so happy we met here through blogging. It just seems like we should know each other in person as well. Maybe someday. Thank you for your kind wishes. I hope you have a pleasant evening as well.

    1. Thank you, Lori. Yes, Lily Grace can be very demanding...but I've had to let her rest awhile so I could get caught up! LOL. I hope you are having a good week too.

    1. Thank you, Terri. I have fun capturing pictures of God's beautiful world. I rarely ever print any photos anymore, so whatever goes into the blog and/or Facebook is the only place they will be seen. The down side is someday my kids will wonder what happened to all the pictures I took. Oh well...it is what it is. I have fun doing it. Thank you for visiting. I hope you had a good day today.

  10. Hi Pam, I always enjoy my visits here and love your pictures. That church looks like the one I went to as a child until I got married. I use to collect things but don't have any room left. I have several boxes of books in the garage because my bookcases are not holding kids games and books and my craft items. I do have one bookcase in the bedroom that hold my Bibles and favorite books. I love your antique sewing machine. It reminds me of my grandma.

    1. Thank you Susan. Books are another weakness, but I have slowed down on those and normally don't buy any new ones unless I personally know the author. I mostly check out books from the library to read. Thank you for your kind words. The antique sewing machine was my hubby's grandmother's. So it is special. She did a lot of sewing on that machine for her 4 daughters. Take care and have a wonderful week!

  11. What a great visit with you this morning while sipping my coffee. Loved reading your hobbies and I too enjoy some of the same ones. I am a lover of many things and some things I have truly had to put a hold on. Such a collector of dishes!!!! Lord girl...I need help! Seriously, I need to do some deep cleaning in that area. I hope your day is wonderful to you sweet lady. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

    1. I know...vintage dishes are my weakness. I am enjoying using the old fashioned ones more than the new ones. Maybe I just like that connection with my "childhood". And I know other people enjoy seeing them too, so if it makes people smile, then it is worth it. I may just send a lot of things to our church thrift store so others can enjoy them too. I am not attached to them...they are here to be a blessing to someone else. Have a blessed day my friend.

  12. With all those interests and hobbies your life must be full. As you know, I also love photography and bird watching. I'm not big into collecting things but enjoy seeing what others collect.

    1. I love to see your pictures of your birds especially. You always have some great shots!!! I don't really have any agenda when it comes to collecting. It's just kind of like if I see something I like and it is inexpensive and I can find a use for it, then I buy it. Eventually these things will all go to our church thrift store so someone else can enjoy them. Maybe sooner than later. LOL.

    1. Ha Ha...you have a bigger excuse! You work full time and are trying to find a new house and job and everything else! I don't have that excuse...I've just been kind of lazy lately when it comes to reading and writing and 'rithmetic. LOL.
