I haven't been writing as much lately...trying to spend less time at the computer these days as I seem to have strained muscles in my neck and shoulders and sitting at the computer makes it worse...or is it the cause? Whichever, I need to limit my time here, so please forgive me if I don't make it around to everyone's posts every day. I am trying...I love to hear from each of you and hate to miss your news and views!! I keep trying out different pillows thinking that is my problem. I have been tempted to order one of those "My Pillows" from TV...has anyone else tried them? They are a bit too pricey for my budget, but if I keep buying new pillows at Walmart I might as well buy a "My Pillow" and be done with it...but do they actually work better than a cheap pillow? I would like to hear from some real people who have purchased them. What kind of pillow do you like best?
I really haven't had much to share anyway...we haven't had any big adventures or activities worth writing about...haven't taken many pictures either. I guess I am just kind of in a slump, so bear with me while I pull myself back up and out and get back on track. So here's what I have managed to accomplish:
This past Saturday I bought some awesome delicious juicy ripe peaches. I never buy peaches at the grocery store because they are never good...they usually are hard and then by the time they ripen they are rotten. So when I can find a good fresh peach at a farmstand, I am thrilled. These were actually good enough to eat!!
And before we ate up all of them, I wanted to make a peach cobbler. As many of you know, yesterday was a kind of bittersweet day in our lives. It was the 7th anniversary of the passing of our dear son Matthew from this life to his heavenly home.
This is a great picture of the way he often looked...
taken on July 4, 2009, before he was diagnosed in 2010 with the cancer that would take his life in 2014.
I always prefer to remember him this way, with this exuberance for life shining out from his face.
Anyway, it helps on these special "anniversary dates" to keep busy and do something positive. So we invited "the kids" over for a spaghetti supper last night and had this peach-blueberry cobbler for dessert.
Sorry I forgot to take a picture of it when it came out of the oven. This is all that is left this morning:
It was yummy. I added the blueberries because I really didn't have enough peaches left to make a good cobbler. But blueberries and peaches go well together, and this turned out really good.
I got the recipe from this church cookbook, which came from the church where I worked as the Church Administrator for quite a few years before retiring:
Here's the recipe, and as I said, I combined peaches and blueberries, about two cups of each:
I'm sure some of you may wonder if we ever see our Geese family anymore. Well, we drove over to the neighborhood where they are now living with their extended family, and this is what we saw:
One of the neighbors saw me out there taking pictures and asked me what I was doing there, so I explained about our little goose family and how they left our pond to go live in their bigger lake with the rest of the flock, and I asked her if she knew for sure if there was a family with three young goslings in this bunch. She said "Oh yes! There is a family with three young ones, and a family with two young ones, and then some other adults." I can't tell if our babies are in this group or not. They all seem too big to me to be our youngsters. I think there were more that I couldn't see from my vantage point, but the lady confirmed to me that they are there and they are well aware of them, so that made me feel good to know. The other evening as I was sitting outside in my Secret Memorial Garden a group of five geese flew over the pond and honked at me all the way across the pond. I wondered if it could be our little family saying hello...but I just don't know if the goslings would be that big yet...maybe they are?
Speaking of baby birds...Our bluebird couple has been quite actively feeding their youngsters every day, all day long. I am sure the babies will be making their appearance soon. I keep watching and hoping we will get a glimpse of them before they fly the nest.
They sure are getting some juicy grasshoppers to eat!
Now, switching gears, literally...
This is a picture of our son Scott's project car, his '91 Camaro Z28.
He has a long time interest in classic Camaros, and this is probably the 4th or 5th one he has had. He had Mustangs for a little while, but his first love is the Camaro, so this is what he works on and enjoys driving when things are working just right.
In these pictures he had just installed a new radiator and was very proud of the work he had done as a self-taught mechanic.
I have to tell you a little story...the other day on his day off he was going to drive the Camaro back to the golf course where he works (50 miles away) because they have a garage there where he can work on his car. He had mentioned that he would have to put the car on jack stands to work on the exhaust system. (see pictures below of the exhaust pipes he was going to install)
Well, I had expressed some concern about him working under the car with just jack stands because he said no one else would be around and he would be there alone. I've heard too many stories of people being crushed under cars I guess, and so I was a bit concerned about this scenario, which he assured me he would be just fine and that I was not to worry. But I am a mother. Need I say more?
Well, anyway, we had gone to church and out to lunch, and when we got home, Scott was still at the house, and I was surprised to see him there because he thought he'd be gone all day.
Well, here's what happened. On his way to the place, only about 2 miles from home, his brand new radiator boiled over and went dry...and he had to make an emergency stop at the nearest place he could pull over, which happened to be the Dollar General. He waited for the car to cool down, and then added a gallon or two of water, and drove back home. He said apparently the cap on the radiator had a crack in it and the pressure had leaked out or something like that, which caused it to dry up. So he couldn't go work on his car at the shop with the jack-stands after all! And now he has to replace the radiator all over again. But he is safe and God protected him...and I consider that perhaps that was God's way of protecting him from something that could have been far worse than a dry radiator!
Praise God!
I am so thankful for this young man with his sense of humor, blowing the trumpet!
So that's that for today. I hope you are having a wonderful day/week. Remember to hug your loved ones tight every opportunity you can. Like is just too short...we never know what the new day may bring.
Saw this on Facebook this morning:
And that's the truth.
Have a blessed day.
Dear Pamela, you certainly had lots to share, after all! I am not overly fond of peaches but your dessert looks wonderful! My husband, son, and grandson would love your son's Camaro! Funny how guys really get into their cars. I enjoyed the story about your son and his radiator issue. It reminded me of how the Lord protects us. On the weekend, my hubby ran over a piece of metal which caused a flat tire. Thankfully he was turning into our subdivision so he got the car home. But he had been undecided about whether to replace all the tires or not. He had to replace the flat tire, and when he took the car over to be serviced they told him he should probably get all the tires changed. So, we thanked the Lord for the flat because I believe that was His way of protecting us. We don't do a lot of travelling the past few years but with our son and his family moving to NB, we will probably be making some trips over there. It's best to have good tires on one's car.
ReplyDeleteI love the quotes you shared at the end of your post! Do take care, my friend, and I hope a new pillow will help you feel better. Blessings to you...Sandi
Thank you Sandi. It is so good to have you back again! You've been missed! And yes, that flat tire was probably a blessing disguise for you. I know we often put off buying new things like tires until we absolutely have to, and it's good when we get a warning without a lot of stress and duress. I know you are happy your kids are moving closer to home. That will be a wonderful trip for you to make as often as you can!!
DeleteI'm glad you were able to spend the day with family yesterday. It's good to be surrounded with loved ones on a difficult day. I hope you are feeling better soon Pamela. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. Yes, there is comfort in just being together, and having something positive to do, like eat! Thank you for your kind words. My neck has been a bit painful today, and I find myself having to walk around a lot instead of sitting too long...and one only feels like walking around for a limited amount of time too. So I'm just trying to make myself get up and down more often. As my sweet pappy used to say, "It's tough getting old!". Have a blessed day dear friend!
DeleteI am glad you made it through the anniversary day. Baking is always a good distraction for me. It is a mother's heart that makes her worry (concerned). I know God listens to our hearts and He watched over Scott for you because they are adults and don't always listen. I am so glad you found out about the geese.
ReplyDeleteI am always very hesitant to share or recommend items. I feel the blogs and social media already add to our discontentment and wanting things we don't need. I do have a My Pillow. My aunt and uncle got one and swore by them. I absolutely LOVE mine. You buy them according to your weight, so my husband's is thicker than mine. I sleep better when I sleep on mine even though I am always drawn to his because I like to be elevated. Now, that said, my mother doesn't like hers. I also bought the kids some for Christmas one year. One set of kids likes them and the other set doesn't, so that is looking like 50% like and 50% don't. Did that help at all:) ?
Have a good day and hope your neck feels better soon.
Yes, that did help...I am still debating on the "My Pillow" issue. I may take the plunge now that they are priced lower these days. I figure it's better than having neck surgery, which is what I'm headed for someday I am afraid. I've already had major lower back surgery, and the doctor said I'd probably end up with neck surgery eventually. I want to prove him wrong! So I value your opinion and may just take the plunge. Thank you.
DeleteGrin over Scott. Keeping in prayer over the anniversary of Matthew's death...
ReplyDeleteMy husband uses the My Pillow, he says its ok. But my son and I use Bamboo pillows-we like them as they are not so hot. I can't remember where we bought them, I think it was Home Goods. I finally gave up my childhood pillow---it finally bit the dust, LOL.
Again, keeping in prayer...and yes, my friend, the good Lord answers prayers in subtle forms (thinking of Scott). smiles
You still had a childhood pillow??? You must not drool as much in your sleep as I do. LOL. I am a mouth breather, and so pillows just don't last long with me even if they are washable. LOL. Thank you for your kind words and thoughts regarding sons. We mothers just can't help being mothers, can we? (((hugs)))
DeleteSo sorry about the neck and shoulder pain. That's what I have suffered from for many years because of all the yard work and such. Do stay off the computer. It will help you heal faster to stop irritating that area. I've learned: new injury apply ice, old injury apply heat. I also take 2 Aleve (NSAID) every morning and evening. Keeps me from being totally disabled.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos. I look forward to meeting your son in Heaven. He sure seems like a great guy.
I need to start photographing our Blue Birds. We've got a bunch nesting in Steve's nest boxes all over the property. It would be nice if we all lived closer to one another. It would be fun to watch the little birdies going about their business all day long.
Get well soon!
Sending Love & Prayers xx
Thank you Sparky, for your kind words. Yes, you would love our son Matthew. He was a very special person in so many ways. God must have very special reasons why He needed to call him home so soon. I expect Matthew is busily helping to build "mansions" for the rest of us. He had promised his grandmother a log cabin one day, and I suppose they are rocking on that porch now in heaven together. Anyway, regarding the neck, sounds like you understand my pain very well. And yes, I should stay off the computer, but here I am. I try to make myself get up more often and walk around for awhile, taking pictures of the bluebirds and such. And yes, I take Ibuprofen every day too. Thankfully it's manageable for now. I've already had major lower back surgery, and the Dr. said it was just a matter of time before I'd need neck surgery, but I am hoping to prove him wrong. And yes, you need to take pictures of your bluebirds and share them with us. I may have to come up there and see them for myself one day! Take care and have wonderful week.
DeleteThat blue bird is so beautiful...such a vivid blue. Love your last two quotes and I say AMEN!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cathy. Yes, I am amazed at the beautiful blue of the male bluebird. The female isn't quite so pretty, but she's devoted to her children.
DeleteHi Pam, I have been reading your blog for awhile now, and I really enjoy and look forward to your posts. I wanted to reply to you about the "My Pillow." In a desperate search due to neck pain I bought two. My husband took to his right away. It took me awhile...I actually bought a pillow from one of the motel chains we visited when we travel and I loved that more and used it all the time. It is soft and scrunchy and I could adjust it to my neck for comfort. However, after I had back surgery last year, I have been using "My pillow" exclusively. It is a little more firm than my other pillow, but I am not having any neck pain. It is also washable, that is a plus. They also have some travel size pillows that I got free when I bought the large pillow. I keep those in our cars and I love them. The My Pillow company offers some good deals, look around before you buy you should be able to find a bargain. I am looking forward to trying your cobbler recipe, it sounds great. Thank you so much for sharing your life and your faith, you have been a blessing to me.
ReplyDeleteHello Georgia! What a treat to meet you here! Do you have a blog? I would love to get to know you. Thank you for your helpful words regarding "My Pillow". I am leaning more and more that way each day, and with your recommendation that helps me a lot. I know they have lowered the prices quite a bit recently, so now is the time to consider it. Oh, I hope you will try the cobbler. It really was good, especially warm and with some whipped cream (or ice cream!). Your kind words mean a lot to me. I do hope we can get better acquainted. Blessings to you today.
DeleteHi Pam, I am sorry you are in pain. Having the right pillow makes a difference. I for two at Kohl's and they are fluffy and mold to my neck. I have had neck pain in the past from work and a car accident. I have osteoporosis and at some point I will have to deal with that. I am sorry also about the loss of your son. I am sure you still miss him a lot. I love that picture you shared of him and good to remember him like that. Praying you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan. I am sorry to hear of your neck pain as well. I guess it is something many of us have as we get older...and yes, having had car accidents and working at a computer or other physical work can certainly contribute to that. Thank you for your kind words regarding our son. Yes, we like to remember him before the disease took hold of his body...but it never got his spirit. He stayed strong in faith and also in being a happy guy right up to the end. He was a real example to everyone. Thank you again...take care dear friend.
DeleteThe anniversary days can be very hard. What an open and joyous face your son has. Of course, now shining in Heaven...As to My Pillow, I did not like mine. I have had the best luck so far with feather pillows. I had no idea I would like a feather pillow but I can get them to adjust and stay. I use them with a small C-shaped memory foam travel neck pillow. Thank you for the update on the geese. And I am glad along with you that your son Scott did not work alone under a jacked car. Although maybe he is not as happy about it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your very kind words. I do appreciate it so much. As for the pillow, after considering so many responses, I have decided to try the My Pillow since they are currently at a greatly reduced price. I could not use a feather pillow because I am a mouth breather and tend to "drool" too much! LOL. I need a washable pillow! Sorry, that's too much information. LOL. But might as well be honest. LOL. And yes, thank you for understanding about Scott and why I am relieved... and also for your sweet words about Matthew's countenance...yes, now shining in heaven! I know his exuberance is even so much greater there than it ever could have been here, and that is significant. Thank you. Thank you again for visiting. Blessings to you today.
DeletePamela, I am so sorry about the anniversary I can't even imagine losing a child. I also suffer from neck/back pain from the computer Thank you for stopping by always a warm welcome. ))))HUGS(((( Sarrah and Crissy give their love to Lily Grace
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Gina. I hope you are doing okay. I've been thinking about you and praying for you and your mother too. Thank you for the hugs. I hope Sarrah and Crissy are being good girls. Lily Grace sends her love.
DeleteHi Pamela, it's been awhile since I've come to visit. I'm not fully back but am slowly making my rounds. I enjoyed your post today. I hope you don't mind but I very much recommend you spend a little more time at the computer to do research about stretching your neck and shoulder muscles to bring you some relief. I know from experience that once you get a crick in your neck it can really take time to heal it.We often forget about our posture when we are busy working away at the computer and also we have to remind ourselves not to sit and work for hours on end.
ReplyDeleteI can speak to My Pillow. I have many. Actually this is the only pillow I've purchased in many years because a very good pillow these days is super expensive. I always buy mine on the home shopping network here when they are having a special deal and that way they aren't quite as expensive. Before using My Pillow I used memory foam and I absolutely love it because it provided the best support. If you buy one of these make sure you get the 'real' deal and not the knock offs. You should purchase one based on your size because it is important the space between the back of your head or your neck and the bed. If it is cushioned properly it helps to get a good sleep without sore muscles. Now the reason I switched was to try something new but also because the memory foam only lasted about 2 years and then it went hard. I can't imagine buying such expensive pillows every other year. The other thing is you can't wash memory foam pillows, only the outer cover. You can wash My Pillows. One thing about My Pillows is I really wish they had more foam. They do get scrunched up on a regular basis but you can readjust the foam very easy like the owner on the commercials shows you to do. I'm not sure when I bought my first My Pillow but I still have them plus I've replaced every other pillow with one of them as I think they are a bargain compared to my only other good option. Now as for how one sleeps with them. I can't say oh things have improved so much but at least using them doesn't annoy me or hurt me every night from total lack of support. I hope these comments help. Unfortunately politics has come into play and both QVC and HSN in USA have stopped selling My Pillow. Maybe you have other places you can buy but if you want to buy I would recommend you buy before the company possibly goes out of business. The owner and founder has gotten a lot of flack for his political views though I cannot remember what he actually said. It was when President Trump wouldn't vacate the WH and there was a lot of chaos.
This comment has gotten rather long so I'm going to end here. I just wanted to say I enjoyed your post. Love and hugs, God bless.
After more testimonials for than against, I have decided to order myself a My Pillow since they are currently at a greatly reduced price. Then I will let everyone know how it works for me. I am strongly in support of Mike Lindell, and appreciate all he has tried to do for President Trump. Our country is in a real mess these days, and it's not because of Pres. Trump. But anyway, I don't want to go there...that gives me stress and makes my neck hurt worse. Thank you for your input. I appreciate it so much. I consider you a very trustworthy friend!
DeleteThank you Pamela. I'm sure you will be very happy with the pillows especially since you will get them at a much reduced price. Win-win 😊
DeleteHa! Seeing your title, the wee record player in my head started playing Doris Day's 'Pillow Talk.' (Hey, it could always be worse!)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your neck and shoulder issues. Funny, not that long ago a dear friend and fellow blogger (Sandra at MadSnapper) suffered from the same thing. Now while at the computer she sets a timer and makes herself get up and do stretching exercises every 10 minutes. Sorry, I've no personal experience with MyPillow ... yet. I'm sorely tempted! If you take the plunge, I hope you'll review it for us.
Hosting that spaghetti supper for all was certainly a sweet gesture in memory of Matthew. I can't get over how much he and Scott resemble one another! Ooooh, and that cobbler. Suppose Matthew's up there saying, "Hey mom. You think that's good? Wait 'til you get a load of the nourishment up HERE!"
I love the way you think. I know Matthew is having the 'time of his life', and he will be there to show us around heaven when our time comes. That will be a great day of rejoicing in so many ways...to see Jesus face to face first of all...
DeleteRegarding My Pillow, after considering it, and the fact that they have reduced their price considerably, I've decided to order one. We shall see what develops...I will definitely let you all know. Thank you for the good advice re: timer. Great idea!
Thanks for sharing this post. Life does get busy and sometimes the blog is what suffers. I have contemplated quitting the blog and just doing Facebook. I’m just not sure how that would be. I don’t want to lose contact with friends.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have contemplated quitting Facebook and just doing the blog. But I have friends and family on Facebook who don't ever comment on my blog, except maybe on Facebook. And I have so many pictures in albums there from our family...I just can't walk away from it. So I stay here and there and just have to take more breaks now and then.
DeletePam: We are supposed to be getting ready for strawberry season up here. We prefer locally grown ones. Hubby bought some earlier at the grocery store and the first box of them were NOT good. I almost had him toss the second box. We waited a few days before we did anything with the second box. They were better. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteOh fresh strawberries from the farms are the best! We've already had our strawberry season here in Florida...it starts in February! I try to only buy locally grown strawberries as the ones from CA. are never as good. I hope you get some really good ones and make a strawberry shortcake or whatever you like...I know you don't eat flour products...strawberries are great on ice cream! Enjoy!
DeleteI have heard that "My Pillow" is good but we bought Tempurpedic pillows when we got our mattress and I LOVE them. Good luck and I hope you are able to get a good night's sleep. I do take Tylenol PM now and then and it works great for me on restless nights. Cute pictures of your Scott. He is certainly multi-talented! Glad he had guardian Angels with him!!
ReplyDeleteScott has a key chain that his Nanny gave him years and years ago, which has a "Guardian Angel" on it, and he never leaves home without it. I know his REAL guardian angel has been kept quite busy throughout his life. I hope to meet him someday and thank him. Hmmm, Tempurpedic pillows? Are they really comfortable? Well, I've bought the My Pillow now, so we shall see what it does. I hope it works. I also take a 1/2 benadryl with some ibuprofen at night...tylenol doesn't do me a bit of good except makes me sweat! LOL. Thank you for your kind words. I hope you have a great week and weekend!
DeleteAnniversaries of losing loved ones are difficult. This is a wonderful photo of Matthew. I am happy you live close to Benton and Rose and that you all enjoyed dinner together. The cobbler looks good. SC has good peaches and I look forward to buying a few soon. Scott looks like he has a personality much like Matthew. My daddy was talented at working on cars, more of a necessity than a hobby. Scott s Camaro is nice. I hope the My Pillow will help you tremendously.
ReplyDeleteThese were SC peaches, according to the man I bought them from, and they were very good. I hope he comes back to the flea market this weekend so I can get some more. Our three sons all have fun personalities...can be really goofy (we used to call Matthew "Goofy" a lot), but they also have their serious sides. They each have their own special creative sides as well. So wonderful to see their talents as they blossom. Matthew was very artistic, and was also a draftsman, both the old fashioned hand drawn way and then also the computer automated drafting (CAD), which is what he did for a living for a while until Noah came along and after a while Matthew became the "housedad" and worked PT at Home Depot, because Nicole had the best paying job and they didn't want to keep paying for child care after school, etc. So he and Noah were quite the buddies. Matthew left a big hole in all of our lives, but we know where he is and we will see him again. Scott loves working on cars and I wish he could've taken a mechanic's course and made a living at it, but then he probably wouldn't enjoy it as much as he does working on his own cars. Such is life. Thank you for your kind words. I hope My Pillow will help. We shall see!
DeleteHi Pam, I'm glad you can all get together and celebrate your son and help each other through the day. What a blessing you all are to each other. Those peaches look yummy! I love a good ripe peach, but it is so hard as you said to come across one. I have been wanting to try a quick (cheat) cobbler I saw on Facebook. It uses canned peaches so won't be as good, but since we rarely have anything peach (I'm the only one who likes them) it will be a treat. I haven't been online quite as much, either. It's a combination of trying to stay away and doing the hours and hours of online training for the job...I finished it today! Hooray! I will turn it in on Friday and see what happens next. I go through pillows like crazy because of the arthritis and degenerative disk disease in my neck/back. I have even tried a specially designed one for people with serious neck/shoulder pain that cost $250! It was awful. I sent it back for a refund. I had a MyPillow, a Bamboo pillow, and just about every other kind there is. I didn't like the MyPillow at all, but I had a medium firm one. I didn't know they had different firmnesses. I might like a more firm one. I seem to have the most luck with memory foam pillows, but even those only last a couple of months at the most before they aren't comfortable to me. I guess all I can say is good luck!
ReplyDeleteWow, I am so glad you are finally over the online training for your new job. I know you will be glad to actually get to work now! I am sorry that you also suffer from neck and back pain. It's no fun at all, especially when we like to sit at our computers or sit and read, etc. That is probably the worst thing for it. I did go ahead and order a My Pillow since they are greatly reduced in price right now. And yes, I ordered the one that I think is medium firm, which is what was recommended for my size, etc. according to the website. If it doesn't work, I will probably go back to my cheap walmart memory foam pillow. But you are right, they don't last long either. Not sure why pillows have become such an item in our day and age. I don't recall our parents having pillow issues, although now that I think about it, my mother used about 6 pillows in her bed, and brought them with her when she visited in a big duffle bag. LOL. So I guess she DID have an issue! Hope you have a blessed and beautiful day.
DeleteThat is a great picture of Matthew. Precious memories. Those peaches look delicious! We had a peach tree in our yard when I was growing up in CA and we'd have peaches and cream a few times a week. Now I'm in WA state and we have wild blackberries here. So now we eat blackberry cobbler. Gosh, now I'm getting hungry...
ReplyDeleteOh, but aren't those summer fruit treats so delightful? They don't last long, so we should enjoy them while we can. Thank you for your kind words. Also, I saw y our response about the dress choices, etc. I love burgundy...and for fall, that would probably be my choice as well. It sounds like a "fairytale" come true!
DeleteSounds as if you made the right choices for the difficult anniversary day. That photo is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMoms probably drive their sons nuts. 😁 Glad that everything worked out well.
I really like that "location" sign. It gets right down to the essence of things.
Keep looking for your goslings. I think they grow fast.
They must grow fast, because I don't see any that look like goslings over there now. I would like to look again, but the neighbors didn't seem to like me poking around. Oh well, now I am watching baby bluebirds in the bird house getting really big and I bet they will be coming out soon. I hope I don't miss their coming out party! Thank you for your kind thoughts.
DeleteGreat post, Pam! I so enjoyed it. And yes -- the choices you made for the anniversary day were perfect. That cobbler looks so good. I love blueberries and peaches together. And I so agree about the grocery store peaches.
ReplyDeleteBluebirds bring back such wonderful memories of my mother. She loved bluebirds and they had several of the bluebird houses around their yard. So often it seemed that on difficult days the Lord would send a bluebird my mother's way to encourage her in Him.
And pillows ... my hubby bought a My Pillow a month or so ago and he loves it. He let me try it out for a few nights to see if I would like one also. I did like it very much and ordered one for myself. It arrived while we were away at our volunteer job (at a Christian camp) and so I haven't yet had time to fluff it up and use it. But I'm hoping to use it tonight.
I am glad to know that you like the My Pillow. I have ordered one and hope it arrives soon. I am glad they finally came down in price a bit. What do you do at the Christian Camp? We have one not too far from us, and I've wished there was something we could do, but we aren't physically able to do too much outdoors, especially in the heat here, and I don't know what else they need for volunteers. A few years ago (when I was younger) I spent a week there as a counselor, and I had to do everything the kids did...obstacle course, swimming, relays, etc., and I was pretty exhausted by the end of that week. My hat is off to you for your service. I love Christian camping and wholeheartedly believe in it. Oh, the bluebirds are getting big...I can see them poking their heads up now and they look like it won't be long before they leave the nest. I hope I don't miss their "coming out party". LOL. Have a blessed weekend.
DeleteWe've been doing this work at the camp for 3 weeks or so, but are winding down now. My hubby may go one day a week from here on out, but we won't be staying over as we had been. My hubby was doing a lot of maintenance work -- interior and exterior painting, plus some chain saw work (cutting up dead trees), a bit of carpentry, and more. He also put up all of the lighting in the boys' tent area (they are big army type tents and the lighting needs to be re-hung each year) and changed out all of the batteries in the cabin smoke detectors. I helped with those last two tasks. I also did tons of laundry (they are turning one of the camp buildings into an inn and so lots of towels and sheets had to be got ready for that) and cleaned a lot of bathrooms. One day last week, I was also part of a work crew that came in for a day and cleaned three large bathhouses. I hung t-shirts to display in the general store and unboxed loads of candy for the sweet shoppe. On Tuesday I did a final walk-through of all the cabins (there are 19 in all) to be sure all was in readiness for counselors to arrive this week.
DeleteI hope that you like the My Pillow as much as we do! I am looking forward to a good night's rest with my pillow tonight!
I hope your My Pillow gave you a good night's sleep. Mine is enroute. We shall see if it is all it's cracked up to be! How wonderful that you and your hubby were able to do so much for the camp. That is a wonderful ministry, and I am glad you all have the skills and energy to do all of that. I used to, but not so much anymore due to back and neck issues... I love camp ministry, however, and would love to be able to spend more time there. It's a powerful way to reach young people for the Lord...I know, I was once one myself.
DeleteHi there my sweet friend, I know I already I already emailed but I hadn't commented anything here on your post. So neat you got to go over and see the geese and that y'all have BABY BLUEBIRDS!!! They will fledge pretty quick, we didn't see ours fledge but then again they obstinately refused the nice houses Mr. Front Porch built for them.....and chose other accomadations ha ha LOL!! But they live somewhere here in our yard and flit about and dance/fly/play and visit the "worm kitchen" ha ha LOL which we put out for them to enjoy. Oh my!!--I would've had the SAME REACTION BOUT GETTIN UNDERNEATH the car for your son!!---I always worry about safety and I've heard it a million times....."oh I'll BE FINE Mom", and I bet you have too, LOL. That Z28 car is really nice, I bet he is proud of it!! I think I remember when those came out back in the Seventies, ha ha!! Me, I loved Mustangs, ha ha, and I drove a red Mustang. It was a 72. are you feeling any better???---I was thinking about you today. Hope it's getting better. Pillows.........ha ha, ours ARE TOAST, old delapidated flat things.........we need new ones. We buy a new mattress cover this week, and should've got PILLOWS TOO. This will remind me. Let me know what you get and it it helps ok?? we did buy some pretty new sheets last year I think it was? Pretty pink rosebuds and got pretty new pillowcases............but not new pillows, ha ha ha!!! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debbi, for your cheery post always!! Yes, I am watching that birdhouse all the time, hoping to see them come out, but I am worried about the neighborhood kitties who love to frequent our back yard and pond area, looking for tasty morsels of whatever...Scott had to throw a ball at the cat last night to shoo him away from the birdhouse. The cat heard those babies and was very intently watching to see if any dropped out just for him...so that is a big concern. But I have to let God take care of His own little birdies. I can't be there all the time. As for pillows...I've been on a pillow hunt for a while, and just refused to pay the price for a My Pillow. But now they are reduced in price, and I figured if I keep buying cheap ones I could have already bought a couple of My Pillows, so I did buy one for me. I can't wait for it to arrive so I can see if it really works. I will let you know. Thank you for your sweet thoughts about everything!! God bless you. Have a Happy Memorial Day weekend.
DeleteSorry you are hurting. I am having trouble reading blogs. I feel like I want my life back after 10 years but yet I love my friends here. Hope your feel better soon. That cobbler looks delicious. Take care and God Bless.
