A Time for Singing - Updated

This post was originally shared in 2019, but here we are again today, two years later. Not much has changed since then...we still miss our son every single day, but life does go on, and we like to remember to good times, the happy days we had together. So that will be our continued new song of life...as we give thanks to the Lord or the sweet memories we had together while we could.  And we have great hope for the day when we will all be reunited in heaven again. So thankful for that great hope through Christ Jesus our Lord.

"Oh, sing to the Lord a new song!
 Sing to the Lord, all the earth.

Sing to the Lord, bless His name;

Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
 Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonders among all peoples.

For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised..."
Psalm 96:1-4

 Today marks the 5th  7th anniversary of the date that our dear son Matthew entered heaven's gates. I always like to remember him this way...goofy and fun loving and full of laughter...

 This was our last family portrait together three months before he passed.  Our family had all gathered to celebrate his 41st birthday:

It's been five   seven years...and a lot has happened in those five  seven years...things that Matthew hasn't been here with us to enjoy or participate in...but I don't want to be sad today. I want to celebrate his life...not his death. I want to remember the happy times we had together...and look forward to the time we will all be together again someday forever.

You may ask me how I can "Sing to the Lord a new song!" when we have had such sorrow.  Well, I can sing because of Jesus...because of Jesus, Who died for me and for you and all of our loved ones...so that we can one day celebrate together again in heaven.

I can sing, because Jesus told His disciples in John 14:1-4, 6

1.  "Let not your heart be troubled;
you believe in God, believe also in Me.
2.  In My Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you.
3.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself,
that where I am, there you may be also.
4.  And where I go you know, and the way you know...

6.  "I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me."

And so today, as we remember Matthew, I am singing a new song in my heart.
Because of Jesus, I have hope in my heart.
Therefore, I sing.

    One day you will be with him again and it will be like no time has passed. You know how you have the garden for him at your home...I wonder if he has one for you in Heaven?

  8. I join with you singing! This morning I sat outside and enjoyed watching the birds soaring back and forth and listened to them sing. What a joyful noise. Life is so much better when we know our loved ones are with Jesus and we don't have to worry about them or grieve as those who have no hope. Our hope is in Him and it is uplifting and encouraging when we make the choice to rejoice in the Lord and be encouraged in Him.

  11. Pam, Your post is beautiful and full of joy and praise. We who are in Christ, really have no need to fear death--death really isn't death but a promotion to the fullest life possible. This attitude should cause others to pause, take notice, and want to know more--truly an amazing witnessing opportunity. Your son's life truly made a difference in this world; I know you miss him terribly. What a grand reunion you'll have in Heaven.

    Love and blessings!

  12. A beautiful post Pamela. It is so important to remember the good times with our loved ones and try not to be sad for we have the hope of seeing them again one day. Isn't it awesome? I know it doesn't take away the earthly sadness at times but one day your tears will be no more. Amen to that. Your son looked like a very lovely man with a great personality and sense of humour. Love and hugs. xx

  13. Your bird cups are so lovely...we have so many different kinds of birds that visit and I just love them. This week our bluebirds have finally returned and I think they are nesting...mom and dad both! What a glorious day it will be when you will once again be able to see your son, face to face. A beautiful, bittersweet post.

  14. Lifting you up sweet friend to our Lord. What precious memories you have of your son. I can't imagine that kind of loss nor do I want too dear Pam. But my heart can feel your heart as a mama. One sweet day you will be with your boy again. Oh I can already hear the sounds of the reunion. I love your mug. How beautiful. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

    1. Thank you, Cindy. This day, as well as Matthew's birthday, are both such bittersweet days for us. It is very hard to believe that he is not right there where we can call him or go visit him. And yet, he doesn't feel that far away to us. Heaven is only a breath away from all of us, and then that happy reunion will begin. Until then, we want to continue to remember our son for the happy, wonderful Christian young man that he was.
