Today was a fun day, as you can see by the Spring Bonnet on this Longhorn Steer...(no, we weren't at Longhorn's, but the Mason Jar, a more fun country place)

We met with family to celebrate the birthdays of my sister Doris and also her hubby Art, as they both were born on the same day (tomorrow), but 2 years apart! This was my dessert...Cherry Cobbler! The other food was good too, but this was the only one that was picture worthy. LOL.
Here's the birthday couple now...
You may wonder about the daffodils...well, the family tradition was that our mother always baked my sister an Angel Food Cake for her birthday, and when we were little we lived on a farm in Pennsylvania, and the daffodils were usually blooming for her April 5th birthday, so my mother would always pick a little bouquet and put them in a little vase in the center hole of the Angel Food Cake.

Doris wanted us to see that she was actually wearing a shirt with daffodils on it! Anyway, in the past years since our mother died, I took up the tradtion of baking an angel food cake for Doris and putting the daffodils in the center. Sadly, here in Florida, where we moved to when we were still children, there were never any fresh daffodils available since they don't grow in Florida. We would always search for potted plants of them to use, but most often they would come out earlier in March and not be still available in April. So, I have had to resort to using silk daffodils. This year, since we were eating at a restaurant and not at my home, I didn't bake a cake, but brought the daffodils for her anyway. It's a family tradition!

Among some other things, I gave Doris this solar light hummingbird wind chime for her garden. She has a beautiful flower garden and all kinds of lovely things in it, so this will just be a nice addition. Art got a gift card and a book of crossword puzzles, which he loves and does all the time.
So here's Art and Doris, my "little big sister", since she is littler than me, but is still my big sister, and yours truly. It's nice that the Mason Jar has a covered front porch where we could sit and visit after we ate.
Also hubby and his brother Billy and his wife Peggy came and joined in the fun!
These pictures are not quite as clear (not my camera! LOL) But here is Doris, me, hubby, and Art.
And here's me, hubby, Billy, Peggy, and Art.
We had a great time and it was well worth the hour + drive to meet them there, which is a kind of half way mark for all of us.
Not to change the subject, but I was happy to see these fall mums making a comeback in my front yard! I always celebrate when any flower grows!!

This may be the first post in a long while that doesn't have any pictures of our wild kingdom. I thought I would give it a break and do different things. However, an update is important, I know. To answer your questions that I can hear you asking:, No, those people have NOT yet come and picked up the Muscovy ducks or Blackie Sue. I've been wavering back and forth on whether or not to let them take her, and if they don't hurry and come it will be a moot point as she will probably have her kittens somewhere in the woods and I will see them whenever she is ready to bring them to me. I am leaving it in God's hands. He knows what is best for the kitty and kittens and also for me. So I will just have to wait and see how it all turns out. If they come and can catch her, she will go with them. If they don't come soon enough, she will stay here and we will make the best of it. May God's will be done. However, I definitely DO want them to take those ducks! They are about to drive me nuts! LOL.
Now, that being said (without any pictures! LOL), let's move on to something else, shall we? I never got around to posting these pictures last week. Last Saturday hubby and I traveled up to see where our son Benton was setting up a booth at a special community celebration at the Keystone Heights Airport. We didn't know just what all was going on, and especially did not know there was going to be an antique car show going on there at the same time! I basically said HI to Benton, and then went and looked at all the cars! I love classic cars and enjoy looking at them anytime I can. I know our friend Barb from
My Journal Memories, and her honey Gary will enjoy these pictures, as I know they are also big classic car buffs! So here you go...these are the ones I enjoyed the most...

As we were leaving to go home, we saw more coming in for the day. We didn't know it was going to be such a big deal or we would've planned to stay longer, but we had things to do. Still it was fun and we enjoyed it. I hope you did too. How many cars did you recognize?
Well friends, it's getting late and I need to wrap this up. Tomorrow is another day, filled with hope and blessings as we put our trust in the Lord. Here is the verse for the day from one of my devotional readings:
Romans 15:13 NKJV
"Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
May you also be filled with joy and peace and hope, by the power of the Holy Spirit and from the God of hope Himself. Amen!
Good Night!!
What a nice time with family! You and your sister look a lot alike.
ReplyDeleteThe car show was quite something! So many cool old cars. I love the Studebaker and I always like seeing old trucks.
Well, I sure do love my raised bed that Benton made! I hope he did well!! I also love old cars and car shows! I'll take the GTO, the Mustang, and the 55 Chevy make my heart skip a beat!! Great photos!! Blackie Sue may have the kittens on your comfortable deck. Maybe put a box out there with an old towel in it (under the table). I sure hope they at least come and get the ducks. I know you will keep us posted. xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a great birthday celebration with Art and Doris, Pamela! Yes, daffodils always have a special place in my heart, too. And I never realized you were such a car fan until now! Those are great models, indeed, and I thank you for the photos that took me back to a simpler and simply fun time in our lives. Sure hope Benton didn't feel left out - LOL!
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you and to John always!
Happy birthday to your sister and husband. I remember you telling that daffodil story and the angel food cake. You’re a dear, to keep that tradition going for your little “big” sister. That’s strange that you can’t find any daffodils. What about a florist?
ReplyDeleteAww the classic car shows are starting up. Here we have Kool April Nites a week long festival of classic cars. That white thunderbird looks like the 63 thunderbird I used to have. I ended up selling it yo my sister.
What a cute name for a restaurant- the Mason Jar. Wow there was so much in your post, I know I leaving out things I wanted to comment on. Enjoyable post like always.
I won't tell you how long it took me to realize that is Doris not you. "Oh, Pamela has changed her hair color and that's a fabulous tan!" 😄
ReplyDeleteLOL. That is SO funny!! I never tan...just freckle. I was a redhead and Doris was a brunette...now we kind of melded together into the same...except she still tans and I don't. LOL.
DeleteOh I love those photos of your sister and the family. You and Doris have the most beautiful smiles. They are so genuine and full of joy. I love all the traditions you have and the daffodils is lovely. I love the thought of putting them in the center of the angel food cake.
ReplyDeleteLove all the Classic cars too. Dave and I love going to those shows too. Those Mustangs aren't too bad (:0)
Love them all
Sue
I had a 56 Chevy as my first car, looked just like this one but had aqua and white colors. I also had a 68 cammaro and back then I could tell you the name of a car just by seeing it. now I have to look up the emblem for find out what they are, because they all look alikes.
ReplyDeletelove all the smiles and fun you had with daffodils and birthdays and boy do I love cherry cobbler.. my mothers was to die for..
What good times you kids enjoy together! I love the idea of birthday traditions like the daffodils ... a wink from your momma above. (Mine was the green carnation, but both Tom and I completely forgot this year.)
ReplyDeleteBecause I suffer from (enjoy) an overactive appetite, I'm loving that sign hanging beside the steer. Do you think Benton could make me one?
If you are serious about the sign, I could ask Benton. Of course that size might be difficult to ship. If you had one, how big would you want it to be?
DeleteGood point! Maybe I should just settle for placemats or embroidered napkins.
DeleteHappy Birthday to both of them. Looked like a fun celebration.
ReplyDeleteWow, that car show was amazing. So glad you got to do that.
What a fun visit for all the cars.
ReplyDeleteAnd Happy Birthday to your sister and bil. You are so blessed to lived so near them.
Hoping for the best outcome for Blackie Sue and her babies.
Love, love this post. Happy Birthday Doris and Art!!! Wishing you a lovely day my friend.
ReplyDeletePamela: The car photos brought back some memories, especially the Studebaker picture. I remember when the Mustang was a new car, (I was in high school0 Thank yo for the trip down memory lane. Be blessed.
ReplyDeleteGary recognized and named every single one of the vehicles and most of the years. He's like a Car Encyclopedia. Thanks for sharing the pictures!!
ReplyDeleteI love your scriptures at the end of your posts. I think about doing it on mine but I can't think of anything to go with what I've just written, or I forget. I need to keep thinking about it. Those cars! The Studebaker made a gasp! It's just beautiful. But my favorite was the Mustang. My very first car was a Mach One Mustang. I would love to get another one some day! Did your son sell a lot of planter boxes? Those are really nice. He's very talented!
ReplyDeleteThe visits from family/friends is pretty neat! Love the daffodil tradition! I always enjoy an antique car show--great photos!!
ReplyDeleteSuper photos!
ReplyDeleteLooks like your sister and her husband had a wonderful co-celebration, Pam, and the daffodils were so nice to read about, carrying on a family tradition as well. I also like vintage autos and we have gone to many car shows but I could not name the cars. The Studebaker was interesting to me because my first ride was in one after I was born, My parents has a black model and it's what they took me home in and I have a few photos of it but do not recall the car. I hope that there will be a solution to those annoying Muscovy ducks.
