I also received some sweet gifts...this wooden planter was made by our son Benton and Rose. Rose is still going to finish it by painting the tulip and holder and plant the sweet little succulents in the pot when it is done. They made these for the ladies that work at Home Depot with Rose who had to work today on Mother's Day.
Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Happy Mother's Day!
Happy Mother's Day from our house to yours!
What a blessing to have our family together today to celebrate Mother's Day together. We are very thankful and blessed to still have our grandson Noah and his fiancee' Dawn with us, as well as our son Scott and son Benton and his wonderful wife Rose. After a sumptuous dinner of grilled boneless chicken thighs (thanks to our grilling expert Scott), pasta salad, tossed salad, cole slaw, beans, jello, and rolls, we ventured out into the yard and the Memorial Garden to take this family photo. Again, thanks to our son Scott, who knows how to do the timer on my cell phone camera to set it so that he can run and jump into the picture before it snaps the photo. That's why it looks like he just ran in behind us just in the nick of time...that's what he did. I am glad these young people know how to figure these things out!
This morning we had a wonderful experience at church. I may have mentioned before that Dawn was creating some sweet little "Prayer Pillows" to sell with her business of creating jewelry, etc. Well, one of the sweet ladies of our church found out about it and after consulting with the "powers that be" in the church office, they commissioned Dawn to make 50 of these little pillows to give to each woman today for a Mother's Day gift from the church. So over the past couple of weeks she has been very busy sewing these little prayer pillows, spending many hours in her room cutting and sewing.
I even got in on the activity by sewing the little metal tags on each pillow. Each one was just a simple word, but with so much extra meaning...
Words like: Love, Faith, Trust, Believe, Hope, Beautiful, Family, Protected, Fearless, Brave, Miracle, Dream.
Each little pillow had a different message/scripture verse on each side, verses that we prayed would give hope, and faith, and trust, and love, and help the women feel protected and fearless and brave as they put their trust in the One true Lord.
A couple of extra special women received a larger pillow...Our Pastor's Wife (we forgot to take her picture)
And our friend Norma, who headed up this whole idea and helped make it happen...Here' Norma and Dawn this morning when Dawn presented her with the pillow that had her very favorite verse on it:
After putting each little pillow in a gift bag, the Pastor joined us in a circle of prayer to say a special blessing over the pillows, that they would be a true blessing to each woman who received them. Then they were distributed to each woman in the church service this morning, not just the mothers, but every woman, because we are all special women in Christ and deserve to be honored.
Here's Dawn also taking the bags of pillows out to distribute them to the ladies...
There were 50 pillows made, and we prayed there would be enough to go around to every woman because we did have some extra guests this morning for Mother's Day. I told Dawn that we would pray that it would be like the feeding of the 5,000, when Jesus blessed the five loaves and 2 fishes and there was enough food to feed everyone, with 12 baskets of fragments left over. (John 6:1-14). Indeed we had 5 pillows left after everyone had received one, and we counted five women who were not present today who were out sick or had other issues, who will be given those pillows as soon as someone can take them to them. God is so good!!
I cannot begin to tell you how proud I was of what Dawn was able to do for the women of our church. Even though the church did reimburse her for the pillows, it was still a labor of love and something that no amount of money could truly ever repay. I believe it also had a lot of special meaning for her as she worked with the scripture verses and read them over and over again.
After that, our Pastor had a wonderful message about the Virtuous Woman found in Proverbs 31:10-31. You may enjoy listening to this message and be encouraged!!
I also received some lovely cards and much needed bars of Lavender Goat Milk Soap. We used to sell this at Dixie Cottage, but the vendor is no longer selling the soap there since we sold the business, however Rose was still able to get some soap from her to give me because she knows how much I love it. That made me VERY happy!
So all in all it has been a lovely and very special day.
This is my special little Prayer Pillow. The tag says "Blessed", and yes, I truly am.
Amen!

Oh, what a fun day! I love that wooden tulip holder -- so creative. Of course, you know I'm loving the little prayer pillows. That's such a generous give-away to the ladies at services this morning. I wonder if this unexpected blessing won't prompt those 5 visitors to return again and again. Please let me know if Dawn should decide to open an Etsy shop?
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your blessings with us again.
She has had an Etsy shop, where she sells her jewelry primarily. Right now she works from her facebook page "The Dawn of Design". You can contact her there.
DeletePam: I know the ladies of your church felt blessed and were blessed by these very special gifts. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cecelia. I trust they felt the love of God in these little gifts. It was a very special time for both the giver and the receiver. I hope you had a good weekend. I hope your son was able to come? Peace and blessings to you as well.
DeleteHappy Mother's Day Pamela! How nice that the women got blessing bags! Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. It was a very special day in every way. I hope your day was extra special as well. Blessings...
DeleteThis post just makes my heart so happy, Pam!! What a blessing for you to have your family together and for the church to give Dawn such a lovely project to complete!! Wishing you all a blessed week ahead. That family photo is a keeper and I hope you can print it out and get it framed!! Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri. I agree, the photo is frameworthy. I hope I have enough ink in my printer! I guess I could send it to Walmart to get printed. That might be worth it. I rarely print photos anymore, but someday there won't be any photos left and that will be sad. Thank you for the suggestion. Hope you have a wonderful week.
DeletePam, That is the sweetest story. I mean that is truly a blessing and like you said even though no reimbursement was involved the fact that sewing and looking at all those words of faith left a mark that only HE can do. Just a most wonderful post. We too do that timed photo, sometimes multiple times.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandy. Actually what I said was that she was reimbursed for the pillows, but yes, the benefits of creating these pillows and reading God's Word on them over and over was worth far more than any money could pay. Yes, God was definitely in this venture from start to finish. So very thankful. And yes, I hear you about the "timed photo", sometimes "multiple times" until we get it right! LOL. It was fun and I am so pleased with the outcome. Hope your day was super wonderful too.
DeleteWhat a wonderful gift for the ladies at church! Enjoyed seeing the pillows and the pictures of the dear ladies!
ReplyDeleteEnough pillows to go around, and then some - what a mighty God we serve, Pamela! I will try to let you know which pillow verses I want for my granddaughters this week. Dawn is simply amazing! And I did love your Mother's Day gifts and photos, too.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Happy Mother's Day! Sounds like you had a lovely day. I just love those little pillows.
ReplyDeleteI hope you plan to framed the first family photo of you all - its great! You look so happy and content. Family does that to us, don't they? It looks like you had a lovely Mothers Day. For me, one son was home due to Covid and the other, dropped by after work, with homegrown roses he put in a vase and a beautiful card - he stayed and chatted with us for awhile. It was nice. I did talk to the other son, with Covid.- We talk a text several times a day.
ReplyDeleteThose pillows are so cute. I've not ever seen anything like that here.
Sounds like you had a lovely Mother's Day. Those prayer pillows are just adorable. What a sweet gift for the mothers at your church. Thank you so much for coming by my blog and leaving such a kind, loving comment. I hope to write more but I'm very aggravated with Blogger. It is not letting me comment in the normal way I always have...accept I went to Yaya's blog and was able to comment just fine. I keep getting a message telling me I can comment if I sign in to my Google account...I AM SIGNED IN, thank you very much!!! I even signed out and signed back in. Oh the headache!!! If you have any ideas how I can get it fixed please comment over on my blog. I have read and read and followed all directions to no avail. I hope this comment goes through...I had to put in my name and my URL.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet Mother's day you had. How precious are those pillows and I am sure every lady loved receiving one. What a nice thing to give to the ladies. Our church, years ago, used to give each mother there on Mother's day a long stem red rose. Now we have so many that they can't do that. I love the family picture of you all in the Memory garden. YES girl...that timer on the phone is great. I finally got a tripod before Christmas last year just so I could snap family pictures of us at Christmas using my phone. How nice that your grandson and his fiancé are still with you all. I am sure you all are enjoying one another. I hope that the rest of your week is lovely dear lady. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful tribute. My parents were married 3 months shy of 61 yrs. Love those pillows that is such a neat idea. I hope every woman there felt blessed to have such a gift. Love the photos of your family so fun! I have a new post.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your parents story and how they met and lived such wonderful lives, loving each other through "thick and thin". I'm so happy for Dawn too and how she was able to bless each woman in the church with a beautiful pillow, just for them. It does sound like you had a wonderful Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and hugs,
Betsy
Such a nice Mother's Day! Loved all the pictures. Pam---that first family picture is GORGEOUS, , love it. Please get that sent to CVS or wherever y'all print pictures there, and get a big 11x14, nice frame, and put that up displayed somewhere in your home. Great family picture. Love all those photos and you looked so pretty on Mother's day! The food sounded delicious. We had so much food.....still eating left-overs until just this very night, we finished them off. I could eat salmon every SINGLE NIGHT FOR SUPPER, i love it that much. LOL Hubby cooks it on a cedar plank or something, gives a great flavor. Hows your bluebird family/ We did take out the used nest and are waiting for new tenants!! Hugs and have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteMy husband's grandmother also got married in a tasteful suit like that, around the same time, just a few years later after WW2. I wonder if white dresses weren't the thing then because of the war. I know she wore one fancy item, her shoes. They were very nice leather and cost nine dollars. It was an extravagant purchase.
ReplyDeleteOops. Just realized I meant to put this comment on the other post with the wedding photos!
