Monday Monday

Good Morning! Not much new to share today, but thought you'd want to know that the Sand Hill Crane Family came back by for a visit.  "Colt" (on the right below) is getting almost as big as his mother. I don't know where they've been the past week...maybe they took a "Spring Break" vacation to show "Colt" the sights around town. But anyway they came back and stepped right back into their routine where they left off.

Mrs. Bluebird stuck her head out of her house to see what was going on in her yard this time.

Between the turtles laying eggs and the Sand Hill Cranes trampling through the garden, I think she's beginning to think that "Still Waters Pond" isn't so still after all!

The cranes were happy to take a bath and find some good juicy snacks in the water.

And then they wandered on around to other places to eat and eventually back out to the island to sleep for the night.  I'm glad they are back. I was missing their daily activities.

Oh, and speaking of the butterfly garden...here's a picture of the first "butterfly" to visit the garden that I've seen.  This is a Common Checkered Skipper.  He may not be the most beautiful butterfly in God's kingdom, but he's cute, and he seems to like the flowers, so that makes me happy.

Speaking of things that make me happy, our church has a breakfast every 3rd Saturday and every 5th Saturday.  It is open to the public and is a way to reach out to the community and welcome them to our church.

So we went on Saturday morning and enjoyed a great breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage...or you could have biscuits and sausage gravy, grits, eggs any way you want them, french toast or regular toast. You can pick and choose what you want, or you can have some of each. It's a great deal/meal for $6.00! Includes coffee, tea, and/or juice.
Y'all come!

Speaking of church, here's our service from yesterday.
The choir was singing an old hymn favorite,
"Great Is Thy Faithfulness"
and the Pastor preached from I Corinthians 12:12-30, entitled "Ouch, That Hurts!", a message about the Body of Christ, and when one part of the body hurts, so does the rest of the body...and how much we need each other.  Great message.

"Great is thy faithfulness, O God, my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with thee.
Thou changest not; Thy compassions, they fail not.
As thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine with ten thousand beside!

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!"

We love our little church family. It's a wonderful place to worship God and grow in His Word. We have a wonderful pastor, and his wife is our music/worship leader.  For such a small church, we have a lot of outreach ministries that we support in our community and beyond. And now my hubby is serving as the teacher of the Adult Sunday School class as well as a Men's Bible Fellowship on Monday mornings. I am so happy that he is able to continue using his gifts of teaching God's Word even though he is retired. It's been really good for him.

Another thing we enjoy is going out to lunch after church with a group of church friends. We never know exactly who all will join us as it might change from week to week.  Lately we've been meeting at this little country cafe' in town called Nanna's Country Cafe'.  It's good country cooking...nothing fancy, but most weeks we have a reserved big table where we can squeeze in as many as possible.  I think I counted 13 people from our church there yesterday, but we couldn't all fit at the same table. Even so, it was just great having that added time of fellowship after church with sweet people. To me it's like the icing on the cake after a good church service!

One of the joys of living in a small town. We don't have a lot of places to choose from to go eat, but this place has been the most accommodating for our groups each week, so they win the prize!

Then we went home and took a nap. LOL.  But later our "kids" came over for supper and brought homemade egg rolls. I wish I had taken some pictures of them. Rose really knows how to cook them. They were SO good!  They were a meal in themselves, but I also cooked up an egg omelette with spinach and cheese and sausage in them and that made for a great supper! It was fun to have our kids over. We don't get to see them as much it seems these days because their business keeps them so busy. Happy for them that they are going to take a little vacation this coming weekend up to the mountains of Georgia.  They said we could go too if we wanted to, but even though we would love to do so, we really feel like they need a vacation without the parents along this time.  It was sweet of them to ask, but I think they were probably just as relieved that we said no.  LOL.

Well, I guess that's all for today. Here's a good thought/verse for the day:

Ephesians 4:1-3
1. "I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord,
beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,
2. with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3. endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
Amen.

  2. Isn't it wonderful what good God can do through a church with the right heart no matter what size it is? My church is also small, only a little over 40 official members and maybe another 30-40 regular attenders, and like yours it has a lot of ministries. We are growing, though! Over the last year with covid mandates expiring and fears easing more and more of the members have returned (when I first attended last spring hardly anyone was in the services) and we have been drawing in more and more new people. I'm sure it has everything to do with the way God's love shines through the pastor, elders, and everyone they are training up. Pastor told me it wasn't always that way, that he was shocked by how insular they were when he first visited, but he decided to accept the job and do his best to show them how God meant for the church to be. I think he had about a year before covid happened, so he is just now really building up steam. So glad there are churches and people who follow God, even in the hard stuff, and bring light and hope to the world. I enjoyed your photos of life at Still Waters Pond as I always do. Have a blessed week, Pam!

  3. I'm so glad to hear Colt and his parents have returned! That 3rd Saturday Breakfast is a sweet outreach; I know if I were to see something like that while out and about, I'd ask Tom to pull in. Does your congregation have a dedicated cook, or do members take turns preparing and serving food? I love omelets and yours sounds delish; I'm gonna go dig in the freezer right now and see if there's some frozen spinach.

  4. beautiful photos. I love when our churches still sing the old hymnals. The church I attend does 3 traditional hymns and 3 modern songs. Also, a smaller church with a lot of ministries. One of our missionaries just returned from Ukraine, to send baskets of love to the missionaries that our church supports, I can't even imagine how scary that would be right now. So glad that the cranes came back, Colt is sure growing. Thank you for sharing. Yesterday was my birthday, made a post that you may like, I hope you have a blessed week, Gina

  5. Oh that is exciting news, that the Crane family has returned. It sounds like a wonderful way to bond with church family to have a breakfast together . We have a potluck, after the service, once a month and that also helps bond us together.

    1. Thank you. "Nanna's" always reminds me of a little cafe' we visited in Maine, but I can't remember the name of it. Somewhere near Saco/Biddeford. They always served a basket of blueberry muffins with every meal and a pot of tea. I wish I could remember the name. This place doesn't do that, but they have teapots on display and it is just a little diner much like that place was. We grow blueberries here too, but they are not the wild kind like you have in Maine. I told the lady that runs the cafe' they ought to offer blueberry muffins when they are in season. They did have blueberry pancakes one day when we went for breakfast, so that made me happy.

    2. I just looked up the place...it is called "Ashley's" and it is in Lyman, Maine. If you are ever down that way, look it up! It's not fancy, but it's sure good!

  8. Your photos say a thousand words at least. It looks like you have had a great weekend and good message at church. Have to have my posts short and sweet lately because I have not had much time to be here, but it keeps me from thinking too hard :-)
I always love your blogs. So encouraging and beautiful to see the photos. And it is indeed good to encourage one another

  14. Such a lovely weekend. We have a small church, as well, but we do love our church family. And fellowship:) We sure could use a cute cafe for Sunday lunch...how nice! And that breakfast sounds like a great treat! Love all the special things that make your corner of the world "home" to you!! Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!!

  15. WOW! All that for $6. Now that would be my kind of deal and what a wonderful way to reach out and beyond to others. Oh I love that your sweet hubby is so involved with leading at church. Your church reminds me of my youth days Pam. Small town, small church, good preaching and wonderful fellowship. Our church that we have been a part of for many, many years is quiet large. Though we surely took a hit during the pandemic and seem to still struggle with attendance building back up. Some, I honestly feel has simply gotten lazy. (oops, was I suppose to say that?) Ha! I must admit, I miss the good old days and sometimes I find myself longing for those days of old. I hope that your week is wonderful. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  16. I'm glad you get to attend those breakfasts. Due to my following my gluten-free diet, I am unable to partake of most of our fund-raiser dinners. I try to contribute supplies for them. Your church sounds like a church "family'. That is very good. Most of our congregation are senior citizens. I love the people. When they know of a need, they pray that person and their need.

  17. Your Sunday supper sounded very good. Pleasant post, Pam. It was good of you to turn down the invitation to go with the kids to the mountains. You understand the importance of "alone time" for married couples. Good for you!

  18. I think it's marvelous that your church, as small as it is, reaches out to the community with those Saturday breakfast, Pamela. It really is a perfect way to meet new people and invite them to fellowship, and hopefully, worship with you all. I love, too, that you have a group that regularly goes to lunch together after the service. As I'm finally getting back to going to church with some regularity, I'm definitely going to look into joining a Sunday school class and doing more volunteering.
    Blessings, my friend!

  19. How special that litlle (big) Colt has returned for a visit. Your property was his beginning and he must know that.

I enjoy smaller churches but they are are to find here in my town. We have too many of those huge churches and we have one MEGA church that is known world wide. We have found a new church now for the last 10 months that we enjoy and are pursuing membership.

I find after awhile, the churches start getting too worldly. It sneaks' in...through music, worship and their teachings. One has to know their Bible these days.

  20. Nice to see that the crane family has returned, Pamela. Surely, if we lived closer we would go for Sat breakfast at the Methodist Church and also to Nanna’s Country Cafe.
