Tuesday 4 Questions about Me?

You...

It's time again for Tuesday 4 in memory of Toni Taddeo, our founder.

Let's talk about you this week.

1. How are you unique or different from your friends or family? How typical are you?

Well, the first thing that set me apart from my family was that I was "the little redhead"... see below:
I know you've probably seen these pictures before in some of my previous posts, but I always say "A picture is worth a thousand words".  I was the only one of my siblings to inherit the red hair from our father...which, by the time this picture was taken, his hair had already turned to a very dark auburn, and eventually a handsome snowy white (below).  My hair is still somewhere between a rather faded auburn and lots of white streaks suddenly appearing here and there.

This was the last official family portrait in 2005 before my mother died in 2006:
In my genealogical research I believe I finally discovered that the red hair gene came from my father's mother's father's side of the family.  My grandmother was adopted as an infant, and so we never knew her birth parentage until I did the DNA test and figured things out through Ancestry. com last year.

Besides the red hair, which you would be amazed at how much that becomes a major part of your identity...when I meet people I grew up with who haven't seen me in a long while, the first question they often ask me is "What happened to your red hair?" Anyway, besides that "claim to fame", I am often told that my sister and I look like twins. We both know that isn't true...she was the cute, petite brunette, and I was the tall, freckled redhead.  But somehow over the years we have melded together and have many same expressions and features. We often end up wearing the same colors and/or similar outfits to a gathering when we live two hours apart and never consult each other about what to wear. And we like a lot of the same things...a tea party, singing in the church choir...and family gatherings.  But she has the green thumb in the family and my talents tend to be more about photography and writing to you all.

2. How do you spend your spare time? books, hobbies, visiting, tv etc.
I probably answered that above...writing, photography, family and church activities and singing in the choir, and reading.  Lately hubby and I have enjoyed watching Murdoch Mysteries together, and prior to that the Midsomer Murders.  When we run out of those series to watch we will have to find another interesting and "fun" series to watch.  Or else he'll go back to just watching sports and I'll have to occupy my time elsewhere, like reading a good book or writing to you.  In the summertime we spend the majority of our day indoors because it is too hot outside to do much besides our daily early morning walk and evening walk and occasional rides in the country.   When "fall" finally arrives here in Florida, we enjoy being outdoors a lot more.  I am very much looking forward to fall.

3. What was high school like for you?
Well, I was very thankful to live in a very small town and go to a very small school, where everyone knew everyone and most of us grew up together the whole 12 years of school. I had a lot of friends and had many opportunities to participate in school activities like cheerleading, acting in school plays, singing in the chorus, participating in the FHA (Future Homemakers of America), and just generally having a good time!!  I wasn't the greatest student academically, mainly because I was too busy with all these other activities and so I didn't apply myself like I should have.  My father once asked me why I couldn't make straight "A's" like my cousin, and I said "Because I'm too busy enjoying everything else in school".  I wasn't that interested in going to college, but I did go to the community college for one year where I met my husband, and the rest is history...

4. This question has multiple parts:

a. Handbag: designer style or any will do?  I only change bags seasonally... and for church I may change to a more dressy style to match my shoes/outfit if I am in the mood or have time to do so.  I once had a tapestry bag that I carried for almost 20 years because it was that good. It was handmade by a sweet little old lady, and it held everything I needed for work and to carry a bank bag to the bank each day incognito, and it was washable...and it went with everything. I loved that bag, and only gave it up because the lining finally ripped and became unrepairable.  I still have it in my closet, however.  I really loved that bag. Maybe I will go find it and take a picture of it...
Those of you who know how much I love tea parties and pretty hats will see why I loved this bag so much.

b. Pajamas or night gown? This link will tell you about my favorite nightgown.  You will have to read that whole post to get to the part about the nightgown...and I'm still wearing that same gown. I have others, but I just like that one best.

c. Shoes: sturdy or pretty ? Comfy is more the word I would choose.  I wear Skechers most all of the time, even on Sunday, as I have a pair that are more like a black leather flat, except of course they have rubber soles and are very comfy, and they look fine with my black slacks. If I decide to wear a dress, then I have a couple of pairs of low heeled dress shoes, one navy, and one black. I occasionally wear sandals, but only if the outfit requires it. I really am not a sandals kind of person, even if I DO live in Florida!

d. Home decor: classic, modern, farm house style, traditional?  You've seen pictures of my house/furnishings before.  I would call it classic traditional shabby chic farmhouse hand me down style. How's that?  Nothing modern except the TV.

e. Movies: feel good, drama, romance, action?  Not really into movies that much anymore. I prefer old classic movies that actually have some real actors and actresses in them. I do like drama, romance  action, and funny movies. I loved Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Gregory Peck, etc., etc.  Actors from that era.  I often feel like I was born too late.  Most everything I really love came from way back when. I guess I'm just an old fashioned girl.

So now I hope you will check out what others are sharing today as well on Tuesday 4.

Personal Note: I want to thank all of you for your kind comments on my yesterday's post regarding our kids w/Covid.  Last evening was kind of scary. They both had been coughing so much all day that they finally decided to go to the Emergency Room.  My sweet DIL has pneumonia in addition to the Covid. However, they were eligible to receive the new Monoclonal Antibody Treatment.  They each had the infusion last night, and were able to go home around 9:30.  They finally were also given other prescriptions that should help them recover.  Why their Doctor couldn't have ordered this sooner I do not understand, but I am very thankful they went last night and were taken care of.  This virus is really running rampant in our area, and every day we are hearing of more people with it and many have died. I was at my PT this morning, and a man came in to tell the therapists that his mother would not be coming back for therapy anymore because she died from Covid yesterday.  It was just heartbreaking.  We thank the good Lord for sparing our kids and we trust they will continue to heal and get stronger day by day, but prayers are still much appreciated.  Thank you so very much.  I haven't been able to get around to reading everyone's posts because we've been doing a lot of other extra things to help take care of their needs without actually being able to be there with them. I am just so thankful we live close enough to be able to do these things for them.  God is with us.  God bless you all, and hug your family while you can.  Things can happen so fast, which sadly several of our friends here have already had to experience.

  1. This scourge of COVID reminds me of books and movies that have told about plagues that took out large numbers of people back in the olden days. Wth all the technology and science of this century, it's shocking how much of an impact COVID has made on the world. That tells me God is speaking to mankind.

I'm glad Benton and Rose were able to get additional help last night in the ER. Like you, I wonder at the judgment of our medical people these days. That is unsettling, too.

I continue to pray for your family.

    1. Thank you, Barbara. I know your life has been totally changed because of this "scourge", and I know it grieves you to see so many still struggling and losing their battle. Yes, I agree with you that God is speaking to mankind. It is sad that so many of our brightest and best are being taken from this world so soon, but we cannot question God's bigger picture that we cannot see with our earthly eyes. I definitely believe we all need to be ready, for "His redemption draweth nigh.." Yes, I do wish the medical community would get together on the treatment plan for everyone. If they would just give them better instruction and medicine from the beginning they could save so many more... Thank you for your continued prayers. They are not out of the woods completely yet, but they definitely have improved today since last night. Praise God.

  2. I love that tapestry bag, Pamela, and did you know I was a cheerleader captain in high school, too? Good memories!
So glad that Benton and Rose decided to go to the emergency room after all, and are now being treated properly for the Covid and the pneumonia. Yes, I will keep praying for them!
    Blessings!

    1. Oh, Martha, no, I did not know you were also cheerleader and a captain too!! No wonder we get along so well!! Must be something in our personalities that drew us to one another...but no, I believe it was something in our "spirit", and I'm not talking about "school spirit"...it was the "Holy Spirit" that drew us together. So glad. Thank you for your continued prayers for our kids. Yes, I am very thankful they made that trip last night. Already today they are showing much more improvement. So very thankful.

  3. You were a "Rah Rah"! *lol* Sorry, that's what we called the cheerleaders in HS. I tried out for that too but was hospitalized during the tryouts. I don't know if I would have been picked but my chances went crash right away.
I enjoyed your answers. The handbag is pretty. Once Upon A Time I had to carry a money bag to and from work. I also "disguised" it in something larger. Never had any problems and that was working in downtown Jacksonville!
I'm so glad the "kids" are better and pray the pneumonia is cured soon.
    Blessings. xx

    1. Thank you, Sparky! Yeah, we were the "rah rah!" type cheerleaders... no gymnastics stuff for us...just a lot of jumping and shouting and banging on megaphones and shaking the pom poms. I was never very coordinated, but I made up for it in noise. LOL. Thank you for your prayers for the kids. They seem to be improving greatly today. So very thankful.

  4. Hi girlfriend! Love this post. I always like to see the family pictures, you have some real nice ones. You and your sister look so much alike!! I love that picture of y'all sitting at the table, I would say drinking coffee......but KMOWING YOU---I bet that's TEA, RIGHT??!! ha ha LOL Your cheer pic is adorable......and you were CAPTAIN too?? You go, girl, LOL!! did ya'll have pom poms and the big megaphones we used to use?--I dont think they do that anymore. Cheer is so different these days....it's more of dance performances, where in my day we did more "stomp stomp CLAP, stomp, stomp turn, clap, herkie, cartwheel, reindeer jump HOLLER LOUD!" haha ha ha LOL! Saddle shoes!! They may wear tennis/gym shoes nowadays and of course the pro football cheerleaders most all wear BOOTS. Our daughter cheered, and then gave it up for majorette---- was feature twirler and twirled her fire batons, loved watching that! Never see majorettes anymore, a few down South, not many. My Mom was also a majorette and back then they wore the short white boots! I love old pictures. I think you and I both the same type movies....I like old movies and the old classics. I dont watch ANYTHING ON regular tv anymore....except We TV for the old shows, Green Acres, Carol Burnette, MASH, Mayberry, Gomer Pyle, Perry Mason, etc. and the like. Hubby and I do enjoy the old detective show Magnum PI, I think that was maybe from the 80s?? I LOVE THAT OLD POCKETBOOK Pam, that is so pretty!! I am asking for one for Christmas this year...I will try to send you a picture of it. It's EXPENSIVE, but for a Christmas gift maybe, ha ha LOL. I wish I would get lucky and find one at the thrift stores instead!! I hope Benton and Rose and doing better today, that medicine should help kick that sickness in the butt!! ha ha LOL Yes, their doc should've given them that right at the beginning!!!!--they mightve been able to fight if off quicker? Hugs my friend!!

    1. I love your comments above Debbi! You are so much fun, and yes, you are right...that was tea with my sister. I am not a coffee drinker. She likes Starbucks stuff, but not me. But she lives in the city where you can get that stuff, but not me. LOL. Yes, we used the big megaphones and pom poms when we were cheerleaders. I wasn't the most coordinated kid, but I made up for it in noise! I could really make lots of NOISE!! Probably why I am an alto today when I started out in school as a soprano. LOL. My best friend was a majorette and was very good...did the fire batons and all that. I was envious when we were younger of her skills, and I tried to learn how to be a majorette in Jr. High. But being a lefty I was very awkward and most of my throws of the baton ended up on my head or someone else's. I marched in a parade wearing boots and got such horrible blisters on my heels I had to drop out of the parade. Twirling was not my gift. Cheerleading was. Thankfully that was before they had to be gymnasts to cheer!! Yes, we love old TV shows and old movies too. And yes, praise God, Benton and Rose are doing SO much better now that they've had that infusion! Praise God for this new medicine. I just wish they could've given it to more people before it was too late for them. I hope you have a wonderful day! Lily Grace sends her love.

  5. So thankful that your kids was able to get more help. Lord have mercy my cough was awful. I can't even describe it except that I struggled at times to catch a breath to the hardship of the severe cough. I enjoyed reading your answers. Girl...I was a cheerleader for 5 years. Co-Captain and Captain. Well, ain't we just something! LOL! Love you lady. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

    1. I can imagine you were the peppiest cheerleader in the group! I was also cheering in Jr. High and High School. I wasn't all that coordinated for the little cheer routines, but I made up for it in being plenty loud enough for the whole grandstand to hear me! LOL. "Those were the days my friend...we thought they'd never end..." Yes, we are very thankful that God provided this treatment for our kids just in time. The doctor in the ER told them they were about a day away from being admitted to the hospital...and we know that wouldn't have been good. God is so good, and He is taking care of all their needs. We are SO thankful. I don't know how you and your hubby made it that week in the mountains, being so sick and away from home, but we know WHO was there with you...GOD!! So thankful He saw you through and gave you healing. Praise God. Amen!

  6. What a gorgeous handbag! I can only imagine the memories it evokes. Sure enjoyed learning more about your favorite nightie, too. Since it falls to me to take the pups outside first thing each morning, I have to take my 'nightclothes' into consideration.

I'm so glad Benton and Rose made the decision to seek immediate care at the ER! Still lifting prayers. You and John are angels.💛

    1. Thank you so much for your prayers and kind thoughts. We are just so relieved that our kids are better...even tho they still have a ways to go to get their strength back, but at least they are on the upward swing now. Praise God. And yes, if I had to take the pups out I would wear something other than my nightie, even though it is quite modest, but it's just the thought of it...LOL. Good night. My Nightie is calling...

  7. Oh gosh, I haven't been online too much the last few days so I didn't know about your "kids." So glad they were able to be treated and go back home. So scary, though, all the cases in your area. Please be careful and stay well! Look at you as a cheerleader! You were so stinkin' cute! You still are for that matter. :-) That is a cute purse, but I'd have to put an organizer inside it. I like totes but the organizers are a must for me or I spent soooo much time digging around for my keys. Nightgowns are pretty and so feminine, but I toss and turn so much they are all twisted around me and I can't stand it. I have a couple of really comfy, warm ones that I wear to lounge around in during the evenings in winter, but I change before I go to bed. I'm on the lookout for a nice pair of black and/or brown flats now that I'm back in a church and having to dress up a bit. I haven't found any I love yet...or that look like they will support my arch. This was a fun Tuesday 4 and I enjoyed your answers. Now I am off to read and listen to the rain Ida has brought us.

    1. Actually, my purse had a zippered pocket for keys, etc., and I kind of created my own organizers for cosmetics, etc. Somehow it worked for me for many many years, but yes, I did have to dig sometimes to find things. The skechers flats that I have (black) are very comfy and leather (or leather look). They are great with dress pants. I don't dress up a LOT for church, sometimes wear a dress or skirt, but mostly wear my black dress pants with different tops, so the black shoes are perfect. Thank you for the kind compliment about me as a cheerleader. I wish I could still jump up and down like that. That's probably why I have so many back/neck issues today. LOL. I hope you don't get TOO much rain. Have a good night.

    1. We seem to have a lot of the same interests. I love photography of birds and nature, just like you! It's fun to see the things you see in your part of the world as compared to the things I see here. Sometimes they are the same things! Amazing! I'm not much into "handwork", however. Never had the knack for it, being a lefty. No one could teach me to knit or crochet...or else I was just too busy to sit still long enough for anyone to try to teach me. I wish I had learned something like that, but can't do it now. I appreciate other people's work immensely! Have a good night!

  9. I'm SO glad Benton and Rose got the infusion! A couple from church both had covid and got the infusion and were better within a few hours. I am just so sorry they didn't have this treatment last year. So many lives could have been saved. (((hugs))) to you...and also to your DIL Darlene who just lost her mother. My heart goes out to her. Re: the bag...I am not much of a seamstress anymore, but I think you are right that someone could do that. I think it probably deserves its retirement as much as I do, however. I carried that bag almost every day to work for many, many years. It truly served me very well. Good night dear friend from Florida!

  14. Oh my goodness! I didn't mean to take a blogging break but I have just been so busy with Mom that I just unplugged even a little more to catch my breath and then I read about the kids. I went back to see the other post and bless your heart. I know you were praying and not sleeping. I am glad they are on the upswing and yes, I can't understand why they wouldn't give those things out so much sooner. We have a principal of one of our schools here down with it. He has not been doing good and in the hospital. I taught this man when I first started teaching. He was a freshmen in high school. I have been praying so hard for him. His daughter is having a grandchild today. I heard yesterday the most promising news yet and that his oxygen machine had been turned down to 75% from 100% of a few days ago. This virus is just awful as you well know. Y'all take care and I will add all of you to my prayers.

    1. Oh, wonderful! We just finished all the way through Season 14, and now I discover we will probably have to wait until April to be able to see it here in America, but their new season 15 starts in September in Canada. We are trying to figure out if we can stream it somehow. Don't think I can wait until April for the next episode!! We really have enjoyed it, even though it seems like they have hit every single social issue that faces society today and we don't always agree with their "views", but they are a pretty tame show compared to many, so we do enjoy it and the characters so much.

    2. We're not near that far into it yet. Maybe season 5-6, so we've got a bit. We don't agree with all their views either, but we do enjoy watching it. Maybe we need to stretch it out a little so we won't have such a big space of time before we can watch the new season. lol
