Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Sunday Night Hope and Comfort
Happy Sunday. Just wanted to share today's message with you from Philippians 4:10-23, as well as the Praise Team singing, "Precious Lord, Take My Hand"
You can sing along with us, if you wish:
"Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, help me stand.
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn.
Thro’ the storm, thro’ the night, Lead me on to the light.
Take my hand, precious Lord; lead me home.
When my way grows drear, Precious Lord, linger near
When my life is almost gone.
Hear my cry, hear my call, Hold my hand lest I fall
Take my hand, precious Lord; lead me home.
When the darkness appears and the night draws near
And the day is past and gone,
At the river I stand, Guide my feet hold my hand
Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.
Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, help me stand.
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn.
Thro’ the storm, thro’ the night, Lead me on to the light.
Take my hand, precious Lord; lead me home."
I know there are many times when we feel just like this...we are weak and worn and tired, and we just need the Lord to take us by the hand and lead us gently home. How blessed we are that we have such a Savior as Jesus Christ our Lord, Who is always there, ready to help us stand when our own strength is gone.
I hope today has been a good day for you. We enjoyed church this morning, then went out to lunch with our kids and friends as per usual. It's just good to spend time together, fellowshipping and enjoying good company. I must say it is the highlight of our week!
Another highlight this weekend was this:
There's a story here. The other evening I saw a hummingbird fly up to our back porch glass doors and flutter about, looking inside, as if to say, "Why haven't you put out your hummingbird feeders for us this summer???" Well, to be honest, the only answer I could give was I was lazy. The hummingbird food has to be changed every couple of days in the summertime, because it is so hot outside that the sugar water will ferment and/or mold very quickly. If you don't keep it changed often and clean the feeder thoroughly, it could make the hummingbirds very sick and they will die. So, I decided rather than go to all that trouble, they could just search for natural sources of nectar out there in nature and not become dependent on me. I thought I was being rather noble.
But then, my son said to me, "Mom, I saw a hummingbird out there around the trees last night, and he was looking for food. Where's your feeder that you usually put out for them?" Talk about being shamed by my own son. I should have said, "If you want to keep up with boiling the water and adding the sugar, and then keeping it changed every couple of days and cleaning the feeder, then YOU are welcome to do so." But instead, I grabbed the pyrex measuring cup, boiled the water in the microwave, added the sugar, washed the feeder, cooled down the sugar water until it was cool enough, and put it in the feeder and hung it on the back porch where we could see it.
And then we were rewarded with these pictures, (and many more feedings that I couldn't get a picture of quick enough). There will probably be more to come later. And actually, the honest truth is, the female ruby throated hummingbird literally flew back toward the glass door after getting her drink and fluttered outside the window as if to say, "Thank you for caring enough to feed me."
Reminds me of this story found in Matthew 25:31-40
31 “But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. 36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? 39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!"
(To read the rest of the story, for what happened to the goats...keep reading from Matthew 25:41-46)
And then remember Harriet the Hawk? Looks like she came back for another fashion show...
Isn't she lovely?
I do believe she knows when we are talking about her...
After posing for us on the tree, she leapt down to the ground to see whatever she was spying on down there:
I believe there is a hole in the ground there, and I think she can see the wiggles of a mole in the ground, probably digging his tunnels...
She stood watch over the hole for a while, using her talons to dig at the ground a bit...
Looking around to see if anyone else was watching...
She flapped her beautiful wings and stomped her claws on the ground a few more times,
And after giving whatever was down there a real hawk eye look...she took off into the trees as if to say, "I'll be back later for you!"
Well, that's all for now...oh wait...Last evening on our walk we met this "deer" lady:
Sadly, I did not have my good camera with me, so these were taken with my cell phone from a distance, hence the poor quality. But I think you will get the "picture" anyway:
I think this is a great way to end this post for tonight:
Habakkuk 3:18-19
18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.
19 The Lord God is my strength;
He will make my feet like deer’s feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills.
Joy of the Redeemed
Isaiah 35:1-6
1. "The desert and the parched land will be glad;
the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.
Like the crocus,
2 it will burst into bloom;
it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
The glory of Lebanon will be given to it,
the splendor of Carmel and Sharon;
they will see the glory of the Lord,
the splendor of our God.
3 Strengthen the feeble hands,
steady the knees that give way;
4 say to those with fearful hearts,
“Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come,
He will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution
He will come to save you.”
5 Then will the eyes of the blind be opened
and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
6 Then will the lame leap like a deer,
and the mute tongue shout for joy.
Water will gush forth in the wilderness
and streams in the desert."
How's that for some hope and joy as we begin a new week? Be blessed my friends, and have hope.
"Be strong, and do not fear; Your God will come....He will come to save you."

Oh Pam, I don't know where to begin! This is a great hymn! Those verses from Matthew 25 are some of my favorites; I love how they complement the hummingbird looking for nourishment. Harriet-the-Hawk cracks me up; come to think of it, does the hummingbird have a name? Sweet dreams, my friend!
ReplyDeleteI haven't thought to name the hummingbird yet. We usually just call her "hummer". I often wonder what tune she is humming...maybe it's Amazing Grace...or Fill My Cup Lord...or Shall We Gather at The River? Anyway, thanks for stopping by. I'm way behind in visiting...I always love to hear from you.
DeleteHarriet is simply beautiful. All of nature is such a reminder of so much Scripture. He cares for them but us even more. I loved you analogy...and that hummingbird. It is funny how much we wondered if our kids noticed any of the things that they were supposed to and then bam... a statement such as the one yours made makes you realized they did notice:)
ReplyDeleteI love that hymn. I will try and come back to listen this week. I have gotten to where I listen to lots of messages since that doggone virus came along and put us all online to accompany my own each week.
Thank you, Sandy. Yes, all of God's Creation points us back to Him. You are right, if He cares for them so much, think how much more He loves and cares for us! And yes, I am glad my son noticed such things...now to get him to take over those duties for me would be nice too! LOL. But he's still a working man without much time for that now. His day will come, and perhaps he will remember to do that someday when I am no longer around. I hope you and the family are doing well. Been praying for your daughter and her sweet little family.
DeleteThat hymn is one of my favorites! I love your birds and the deer!! That hawk is gorgeous and the hummers are always fun to watch!! Pam, I wish you a blessed week ahead!! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri. It was a wonderful week in the world of nature here! One blessing after the other!! I do hope that you have a wonderful week. When's your next "big trip"? I love that you are able to get out and visit more. That is so good for you...and for the people who get to see you!! :)
DeleteThat portion of Matthew is one of my favorites, and I printed it out and had it hanging when I taught inmates. That and then pairing it with this from Corinthians: "This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!" I had a lot of devotionals they could come to the front and read, too, and they really liked the plainer texts of the Living Bibles. I love your photos today (well, I always love them lol), Harriet is something else, that mole was in mortal danger! The hummers are just adorable. They are getting good and strong before the profusion of flowers lessens, thanks to kind folks like you who feed them. And those deer pictures! How did you manage to cactch her leaping like that with a cell phone! Amazing.
ReplyDeleteActually, the cell phone takes pictures much quicker than my real camera, but my real camera takes better distance photos, just slower and can't move quickly from picture to picture, so I miss things when it is happening fast like that. I just kept snapping away as she was running across the road. I thanked her for putting on a show for us. I am glad you enjoyed it too. I love that you have taught inmates...what a blessing that is. My husband also worked with inmates first as a chaplain, and then also as a wellness director. It was in a women's prison, so it was a very interesting ministry. And yes, isn't it wonderful that when we belong to Christ, we are a new creature? How marvelous that God has given us this opportunity and hope. Thank you for being one who helps others become "new creatures" in Christ. That is why we are here on this earth...
DeleteThank you, Pamela, for the hope and the joy you've given us for the start of the week with these photos, scripture, hymns, and your own words. Beautiful! You have certainly inspired me, my friend, and the Lord knows how much I need that.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Thank you, Martha. I am so glad you enjoyed it. I love it when God brings it all together. He had a message to get across, and I am happy He gave me the way to do it. Have a blessed day my friend.
DeleteI call them Hummer's too. We have both ways of feeding: natural and the feeders. Last year I put out 6 feeders and that about worked to to death! LOL This year it's only two. I can keep up with that. Wonderful photos. The hawk is so pretty. The deer cute.
ReplyDeleteIf it stops raining for a bit (not complaining!) I plan to mow our knee high grass tomorrow. That's my 'fun' ... LOL
Love & Blessings. xx
Oh my, 6 hummingbird feeders would wear me out in no time. I used to keep two, but now I am just doing this one. I was late getting it out, as I know they will be gone by Labor Day most likely, but this is their feeding time to prepare for the journey, so I am glad I at least got it out for now. We have not had any rain this past week, so you can send us some anytime. Although with tropical storms brewing, I have a feeling we will be getting some rain again soon. Don't overdo the mowing. That's one job I had to give up (the push mower). I enjoyed it, but it wreaked havoc on my neck and shoulders. Thankfully our son has taken that chore over for me. And hubby rides around on the riding mower. I COULD do that, but no...that's HIS tractor! LOL.
DeleteThat running deer is quite a shot! You did well!! Thanks for the hymn. Words to hymns learned long ago (LONG ago - smile) often come to my mind to comfort me. This is one of them.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you enjoyed the hymn! It's a good old song, full of comfort and peace. We are so blessed to have such a Savior, Who cares enough to take us by the hand and lead us home. And yes, I was so excited to see the "running deer"...I was glad I at least had my cell phone to capture the view. I hope you are having a wonderful day...I'm off to PT this morning.
DeleteAmen! That's a beautiful song. We have a lot of hummingbirds in our yard. I just love watching them. Those are beautiful photos of Harriet.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debby. Oh, I am so glad you have hummingbirds where you are! Do you feed them, or do they have lots of flowers to get their nectar from? They are such interesting little creatures!
DeleteI had to chuckle over the son making suggestions. Mine does as well, in the nicest possible way. You are definitely living in an Animal Kingdom down there.
ReplyDeleteHa Ha, Vee! Sons are wonderful to keep us on track. LOL. And yes, it does seem like the Animal Kingdom some times. But now, where you live, do you ever see any moose, or are you too close to the cities? I know when we lived up there we were always watching out for moose! And bears too. But maybe you aren't as close to the mountains/woods? It was an adventure for us for certain.
DeleteIt is exciting to have the birds come to the feeders soon after putting them out. I have decided to not feed this summer. Maybe it's laziness but whatever the case that is how it iss right now.
ReplyDeleteI have not kept up with my other bird feeders very well this summer either. We've had so much rain...every time I put fresh seed out it rains and the seeds get all soaked and if I don't go clean it out soon they will sprout in the bird feeder! So it has been challenging! But we do enjoy seeing the birds come and go, so I try to maintain as much as I can. Hey, you've been busy having your house renovated...so I know you've had plenty to keep you occupied. I loved the pictures of your bathroom. So lovely! I know you are enjoying it!!
DeleteA lovely post and thanks for the hymn lyrics.
ReplyDeleteOh Mildred, I do hope you enjoyed them. If you clicked on the video, you could see yours truly singing it for you. Thinking of you this morning and saying a prayer for you. (((hugs)))
DeleteMany days I'm tired, weak and worn, but I am blessed to have a Savior who holds my hold and helps me. I love that song, and yep, I sang along. I don't know why but the hummingbirds passed us by this year. Mr D loves them so much, he was sure disappointed. Good to visit with you again.
ReplyDeleteDid you put your feeder out for the hummers? Sometimes they take different routes I guess. They know the weather patterns better than we do, and they probably know where to get the best food each year. God made them very smart. And yes, it is a blessing to have our wonderful Savior to hold our hands and help us each and every day. He loves us so very much. It is so good to hear from you, Mary. I love it when you pop in for a spell. Please do come back again!
DeleteGrinning....you always make me smile, Pamela.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful video and words here. Love the photos. All God's creatures need care don't we? Even the tiny hummingbirds. When we hung up our hummingbird feeder we had yellow jackets dive bombing it. So after dark we had to take it down. They are such evil critters. One stung Mollie two nights ago so we have to be careful with the little dogs. Mollie and her mom Lulu have been stung. Poor little girls. Lovely share and thank you my friend.
