Random Sightings

Do you ever wonder how a Canadian Goose sleeps?
Well, wonder no more...standing on one leg with his bill tucked into his wings, he is resting peacefully, but keeping one eye open for any impending danger and ready for action...

Meanwhile, his lady-love is still obediently sitting on the nest over on the island, safe from any danger we trust...

"Father Goose" Statue...He loves to stand one-legged on that tree stump, and can stand there for long periods of time just like a statue...

Uh Oh! It is no longer a SECRET!  Now we know who keeps drinking all the water out of the birdbath in the Secret Garden, and sometimes tipping it over on the ground!

That is one loooonnnnnng kitty cat! Poor kitty...that birdbath is almost empty...and there is a whole pond not even 15 feet away...

Who you lookin' at? Never see a cat drinking from a birdbath before?

Well, I'll just mosey along, but I'm sticking my tongue out at you...

Now, see? Aren't I the picture of innocence?

Meanwhile, Mother Goose is still safely sitting on her nest over on the island. Good thing cats don't like to swim that far...

Oh, while I was writing this I looked out my window of my "room with a view", and I could see a lot of activity way over on the other side of Still Waters Pond.

"Father Goose" is having himself a grand old time splish-splashing about, taking a bath...

He found a nice shady cool spot where the water is a bit clearer and deeper,

And for the last half hour or so he has been diving and swimming and splashing about, have a grand old time.

I'm sure this serves a good purpose besides just having fun in the water, but then again, who knows?

Maybe Father Goose is getting bored with just sitting around waiting for Mother Goose to hatch her babies, and he said "I'm going to go for a swim and take a good bath!"

Looks like he is really having a great time! Makes me wish I could join him!
But trust me, Still Waters Pond is only a good swimming pond for the ducks and geese...No way am I putting my body down in that dark  water where I can't see what's under there...no way!

Switching gears...yesterday was chilly and rainy...stormy actually. Just the opposite of today.  Definitely not a good day for swimming the pond! When we came out of church and headed to our local "Hog Wild Cafe'" for lunch, we got kind of wet and chilled.

It sure was a welcome sight when we stepped inside the restaurant and saw they had this cozy warm fire blazing!

Of course, I wasted no time getting right up to the fire...

And then Hubby joined me.

And then our Pastor and wife joined us too...if you look closely you can see his shirt is very wet from the rain...it rained so much yesterday we were about to wonder if we should have called Noah to come pick us up on the Ark...

But we warmed up and dried out and had a great lunch with family and friends. Such a blessing after a wonderful morning in God's House.

After a long day of stormy, wet weather, we were blessed to see this gorgeous sunset to end out the day.

It never ceases to amaze me the many ways God has to surprise us and bless us with His lovely creation.

"They who dwell in the ends of the earth
stand in awe of Your signs;
You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy."
Psalm 65:8

What kinds of random sightings have you had lately?
Why not keep your camera handy and take pictures whenever you see things worthy of note.
It is always a blessing to see the many ways God chooses to show us His glory and beauty and even fun all around us.

Have a blessed and wonderful week.

    1. OH, it was so lovely and warm! Who would ever think we would want a fire in Florida in April? Very unusual, I can tell you, but it sure felt good!

  3. We marveled at how beautiful the sky looked last night....so soft and pastel! You took an amazing photo. And it's great fun to see the Geese on the pond. Hubby and I both looked at the cat photos. How funny! My hubby loves cats....me not so much! heehee! Enjoy your afternoon! It's gorgeous today!

    1. Thank you, Diane. The sunsets are always something to rejoice about here. The cats are everyday fixtures on their little routes around the neighborhood. They have their routine places they check. This was the first time I ever caught the cat in the bird bath. We thought it was a raccoon that usually knocked it over at night. Now we know it could be any of the critters, not just the raccoon! Hope you had a great day out jeeping around! LOL.

  4. Lovely photos, Pam! That fire at the restaurant looks welcoming. It was nasty down here, too, and turned cool. I was happy to hear that Barb got home safely!! Have a good week, dear friend! xo

    1. Yes, we enjoyed the fire so much...who would think so in April in Florida? But it really was welcoming. I am so happy you and Barb had such a great visit and that she got home okay. She's getting much braver taking these little trips. Very proud of her taking these steps of faith. You too. You both amaze me. Blessings to you today.

  5. Father Goose ... I love that! More so, perhaps, the expression on kitty's face -- watching you watching her drink.
That restaurant's fireplace looks so welcoming. I've not been there (yet), but I love it all the same. That, and the adorable little student desk.
Hopefully, you're going to inspire me to be more impulsive with my picture taking!

    1. come on down, Myra! You would love it here I am sure! You can watch the geese and the neighborhood cats...and I never even noticed the student desk at the restaurant until you mentioned it. See? You notice random sightings too! You DO need to keep your camera handy (cell phone works just fine...that's what I used for those pictures. I only use the "real camera" for distance pictures and especially the ones on the pond so I can get good close ups.) So just go "snap" when you see something that you like or that makes you laugh. Selfies are fun too! LOL.

    1. Thank you, Sandy. Yes, these geese are getting more interesting day by day. I am in great hopes for some goslings this time! Oh, I am glad you got to see some cardinals. Aren't they beautiful? I love to watch them too. Have a wonderful week.

  7. Lovely scenes. WHat have i been seeing today? Snow and blowing snow. i thought we were having spring, but today looks a lot more like winter. although, I would rather have rain, we need the moisture in any form we can get it.

    1. OH wow! More snow? Yikes! I know I'd be tired of it by now too, but you are right..."we need the moisture in any form we can get it". It was really dry here too and that rainy day we had was a big help. We just need it a bit more consistently. And I do hope your snows will be over soon and you will just start getting nice spring showers. Take care and stay warm and safe!!

  8. I put nice clean water all over our land (we have over 6 1/2 acres) and all my dogs prefer to drink out of the nasty bird bath or at the muddy branch that borders our property. *sigh* Must be a latent wild animal thing goin' on I don't get. *lol* I enjoyed your photos. Y'all live in a paradise too.
    Blessings. xx

    1. Ha Ha Sparky! Animals just love to be who they are. We can try to civilize them all day long, but they enjoy being natural creatures with the instincts God gave them to survive in the wild. It's just who they are. You know, even you and I like to "let our hair down" now and then and just be "wild"...LOL. Kind of like, "You can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl". LOL. I love being a "country girl". I would love to have more land out in the wild, but we are thankful to have our little piece of wild country right here with God's creatures right at our doorstep. Someday I'd love to come romp over your acres and see the muddy branch that borders your property. That sounds pretty neat to me!! Have a blessed day my friend, up there in your piece of paradise!!

  10. Mama goose and the eggs will be quite safe from the kitty and just about anything else, island or not. When my family lived in the wildlife preserve there were many ponds and many nesting geese. I found out the hard way just how fierce a goose can be when nesting. They will attack and dive-bomb you. Stay away from the nest! Loved the photos. We are back to gray, chilly weather this week.

    1. I watched Father Goose take off after a Great Blue Heron this morning, who attempted to land in that tree above the nest. That goose did a lot of flapping of wings and honking and charging and the Heron finally decided it just wasn't worth it to hang around here and took off. Yes, Father Goose is definitely king of Still Waters Pond right now. I don't even dare try to go out in the kayak until they are done nesting...

    1. Thank you, Debby. Yes, we've been enjoying our geese and their antics here, and the neighborhood kitty amuses us as long as it doesn't bother our birds! It was a treat to have a fire here in Florida in April...that is a rare occurrence, but it sure felt good!!

  12. You always get the best photos, Pamela, and I'm so glad you are able to eat out with family and friends! Danny isn't quite up to going to a restaurant and actually dining in, but I hope he will come around soon as I really miss it. And the rainy day followed by that gorgeous sunset? Oh, how God surprises us!
    Blessings!

    1. Thank you, Martha. We are always so blessed when we see these gorgeous sunset masterpieces that God creates especially for His children to enjoy! And I understand Danny's concern regarding dining out. He's had some real concerns and I don't blame him for being extra cautious. At least you finally got to be with your family, and that is better than any restaurant any day!! Praise God!!

  14. So much activity going on near your pond! The cat stretched out so long makes me giggle. Lol
The cozy fire was a thoughtful gesture by the restaurant. I was blessed to watch bluebirds move in the blue bird house we just put up. Sending wishes for you to have a restful night.
