Saturday Beauties

Last night's "Snow Moon" they call it...not sure why...we certainly don't have any snow here in Florida, but I know somewhere some of you may still have a lot of snow....

This is a little clearer picture of the moon last night...it was stunning:

And then when I woke up this morning, it was still stunning.

The clouds added an interesting dimension to it.

I was taking these pictures while standing on our back porch, overlooking Still Waters Pond.
I wish you could have heard the sounds of the bullfrogs and the early morning calls of the birds...I'm thinking it was the Canada Geese talking to each other on the other side of the island, or perhaps some Sand Hill Cranes...I couldn't distinguish exactly what was making the sound, and dummy me, I didn't think to record it, but it was beautiful.

I told my hubby we need to sleep with the windows open so we can hear the pond sounds at night, but he reminded me that we also live near a busy road, and he already hears the cars racing up and down throughout the night, and we wouldn't get much sleep...

I guess I just need to get up really early more often and go sit on the back porch and listen. It was beautifully melodic...and being a Saturday morning there wasn't much traffic noise at that hour.

I hope you enjoyed these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them...but then again, it's one of those things where you really need to be there to fully appreciate it. It was a glorious start to my day, time to thank the Lord for bringing us safely through another night, another week...

And thanking Him for all the good things He does for us every day that we take for granted...sunshine, fresh air to breathe...and our very breath. This past year has certainly helped me to appreciate this gift of breath.

Once the sun came up the birds began to sing...they are very active right now. They know spring is here, at least it is here where we live,  and it is coming soon to where you live I hope!

I thought this was an amazing photo of this little goldfinch resting on the grasses beside Still Waters Pond, contemplating his next move...amazing how he can sit on such a fragile reed and maintain his balance.  God certainly created the birds with marvelous skills, don't you think?

Mr. and Mrs. Bluebird are still very busy either furnishing their house, or feeding their brood...I'm not sure which yet...

There is a LOT of activity in and out all morning long and then again in the afternoons.
Here is Mrs. Bluebird, sticking her head out before she takes off again for some destination outside where she is gathering things she needs for her nest:

This Blue Jay kept passing by, and Mr. Bluebird made sure to shoo him away. I know that blue jays can be nest robbers, so I pray he stays  away from our little family.

Here comes Mrs. Bluebird, with something in her beak...Is it a twig, or something to eat? I'm not sure what, but she was doing a lot of that this morning...

There she is again...

Mr. Bluebird sits nearby in a tree and keeps a watchful eye on the birdhouse:

He looks this way and that...

And he even looks at me!!

Oh, look! There is Mr. Goldfinch...pecking at his feathers...he's finally getting more of his golden plumage!

I love to see these brightly colored birds in our trees. But I know this is temporary. The Goldfinches will soon be headed north for their summer homes...and I don't know where the Bluebirds will go, but I hope they will stay all summer. That would be so nice.

Mr. Bluebird bows his head in prayer...

And Mr. Cardinal says Amen.

Hope you have enjoyed this little visit to Still Waters Pond on this glorious Saturday morning.

Psalm 136:1-9
1.  "Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
2.  Oh, give thanks to the God of gods!
For His mercy endures forever.
3.  Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords!
For His mercy endures forever.
4.  To Him who alone does great wonders,
For His mercy endures forever,
5.  To Him who by wisdom made the heavens,
For His mercy endures forever;
6.  To Him who laid out the earth above the waters,
for His mercy endures forever;
7.  To Him who made great lights,
For His mercy endures forever..
8.  The sun to rule by day,
for HIs mercy endures forever;
9.  The moon and stars to rule by night,
For His mercy endures forever..."

Amen.

  1. I was up way before dawn this morning and enjoyed that beautiful moon from my back porch as well. As much as I like to sleep a little later, I do love being up and outside before dawn to watch the world wake up. I love all the sweet little bird shots too. Enjoy the weekend :)

    1. So neat to think we were looking at the same moon this morning, maybe at the same time! I think that is so cool, that people everywhere see the same moon and the same sun and stars! I am glad you got to enjoy the early morning "light" today as well. Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. Beautiful photos. Yep, still have snow on the ground here. The moon was bright last night, not warm enough to open the windows here, smiles.

    1. I am glad that you had the same bright and beautiful moon as we did! Isn't that amazing? But yes, I am sure your weather is still a bit too cool for open windows. Actually, ours was too in the night, but it has warmed up quite a bit today. Probably pushing 80. I'm still watching for that special house for you, and I hope you can find that special job. Praying!!!

    1. Thank you, Sandy. I love them all too. I am just more excited about the Bluebirds I guess, because this is my first time having them stay around and build their nest! I pray the babies will be safe and that we will get to see them! Yes, God's creation is always magnificent.

    1. Spring is definitely on the way. I'm not sure where you are, but it will get there soon. Sometimes here in Florida it feels like spring gets jumped over and we go straight to summer. I hope not. I love a nice long spring...Have a blessed weekend.

  5. Oh I love your pictures! Isn't the moon such a beautiful thing?
I love your birds too. The state bird of Missouri is the Bluebird, but we have more Cardinals and Bluejays at my house. Loved your answers. Have a nice weekend.

    1. Yes, this full moon has been so bright and perfect. And the birds have been just stunning lately! So many colorful ones. We normally have more cardinals and bluejays too. These goldfinches and bluebirds are temporary I am sure, but I am enjoying them while they last! Thank you for visiting...

  6. Darn, our cloud cover precluded us seeing that moon. LOVE those you shot with the clouds. I'd love to have something like that blown up and framed. That wee bluebird sticking her head out of the birdhouse makes my heart smile. God is so good!

    1. yes, the clouds rolled in this morning while I was watching the moon, but even that was beautiful to see. It was just a glorious morning. And the bluebirds have been making my heart smile all week long. God IS so good!!! yes indeed!!!

  7. You did have to rise quite early to get those gorgeous photos of the moon, Pamela - wow! I loved the bird pictures, too. Our feathered friends are quite active, and singing a lot, in our neck of the woods. Spring has most certainly arrived!
    Blessings!

    1. Is it my imagination, or are the birds more active this spring than before? I know we never had all of these last year. The bluebirds flew through and kept going, and I never even saw a goldfinch last year except for maybe one day. So I am glad they came back this year and stuck around for a while. Spring has been so beautiful here, but it is fleeting fast. We have had 80 degrees the past few days... I don't want summer to come this quickly. Blessings to you too! Maybe you will get a real spring.

  8. Pam: I had a short night last night. I woke up a bit before 5:00. I laid back down about 9:00 or 9:30 and then received a call from a dear friend. We talked for almost an hour. We had a nice conversation about how I was doing and about her life and her children. She is on a special trip and took the time to respond to a text message I sent her.

    1. How wonderful to have that great conversation with your dear friend. I know that meant a lot to both of you. I love to talk with dear ones whenever I can. We seem to rely too much on electronics these days and not enough on voice to voice conversations. I miss that. So glad you were awake and refreshed and ready to talk!! Enjoy your Sunday tomorrow.

  9. The sounds of early morning are so special. when I stepped outside this morning, although we had a good layer of snow on the ground, the birds were singing cheerily.

    1. Yes, even the snow doesn't stop the birds from singing. They are content and happy wherever and whenever they are free to fly and gather food and sing for the glory of God! I love that. I am so glad God created the birds, and that we are privileged to see and enjoy them. Blessings to you today.

    1. I will be looking at the moon again tonight, if there are no clouds covering it. It's getting dark now, so it won't be long. So, if you go out and look at it, and I go out and look at it, we will both be looking at the same time! Isn't that marvelous? God puts His beautiful lights in the skies for us to enjoy and to give us light. And we clap our hands with delight!! I think even Lily Grace and Tracie and Amybelle and Tansi will enjoy seeing the moon!!! Have a blessed and glorious night my dear friends.

  12. Nothing better than starting the morning outdoors just as day is breaking. I too love to hear the birds greeting each other, feel the breezes begin to stir, watch the sunlight begin to glint off the leaves. Here in the Midwest such reveling will have to wait another couple of months. Have you ever heard what Michael Hyatt (former president of Thomas Nelson Publishing) calls the outdoors? God's living room. I love that!

    1. Oh, "God's living room". I love that!!! Yes, God does live in that spacious room, and He inhabits the praises of His people. When I see such glories in the skies I can't help but clap my hands and sing Glory to God in the Highest! I hope it won't be THAT long before you can hear the birdies in the midwest...I think some may be on their way back north pretty soon. They sure are active right now. Thank you for visiting from your part of the country. May the Lord bless you with His peace and joy!

  13. Fabulous moonshots and the birds too. Wow! That is a plus of living near a natural body of water. It brings out the wild life and gives you, and us, so much enjoyment.

On my latest blog post you asked if I freeze the meat pies. The answer is no. I had taken them out of the freezer and baked them a day later than planned. They are there in the fridge to snack on or have a few for lunch with salad. I haven't cooked all that much this past week so having the snacks on hand has been helpful. In other weeks I might have frozen them. Thanks for visiting my dear.

    1. Thank you, Penny! I'm glad I saw the moon yesterday morning, because this morning it is foggy and there is no sign of the moon at all, even though last night I could see it bright and full. Thank you for explaining about the meat pies. They sure do look good! That sounds like a good "snack". Have a blessed Sunday today!

    1. Thank you so much Holly. I am so glad you enjoy seeing these pictures as much as I enjoy capturing them and sharing them with you! I was surprised to see the photo of Mr. Bluebird bowing his head in prayer. Sometimes when I snap the picture I can't really see what they are doing because by the time the camera snaps they sometimes have changed position. (I have an older camera for long distance photos). So when I saw that I was surprised, and it seemed to be a fitting ending to our "story", along with Mr. Cardinal saying Amen like a good shoutin' Methodist or Baptist should! LOL. Hope you are having a great Sunday.

  15. Such beautiful photos. I so enjoy seeing all of the wonderful bits of nature you capture. After spending a night at my biological father's summer trailer, I might agree with your husband on the windows. Dad's trailer is only about 5 feet from the banks of his pond and all of it sits way back in the woods. (Hard to believe that at the time I was born it was all a big pasture!) Anyway the bedroom has windows on both sides. It was hot and they don't have air conditioning so we had to have the windows open. On the pond side the bullfrogs were right outside croaking all night and on the woods side the tree frogs chirped all night. It was really loud!

By the way, thank you for your continued prayers for our son and his family.

    1. Ha Ha, those bullfrogs and tree frogs can sure be noisy for such little things! I think it would be fun to listen to them ONE night, but yeah, I need my sleep too. And yes, I will keep praying for your son and his family. Praying that God will make a way to reunite all of you in peace and love soon. Life is just too short to have these kinds of breaks in family relationships. May the Lord open their hearts and eyes before they have only regrets... God is able. We will keep praying. Have a blessed day and stay warm.
