Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!
What Do You See Outside YOUR Open Window Today?

Staking Out Our Claim
We were excited to go by our "new house" property this week and see that the surveyor had been there to stake out our property boundaries:
Front north-east corner
Back north-west corner
Front south-east corner
Back south-west corner
This last one, the back south-west corner, took some doing for me to get to. This corner is down by the pond, but deep in the woodsy lot that is on the south side of our property.
It is in this section of our lot that I hope to clear out an area for the "Secret/Memorial Garden".
The pond is on the other side of those trees above, so it will take some doing to clear an area that will give some good pond views. (Not going to remove the trees)
This is looking toward the front (east) of the lot, toward the street.
And this above looks back toward the house. So you can see it really isn't that far from the house.
There are many tangles of vines and trees and foliage, but it is cool and shady and with some brush cleared out it will be a lovely place to sit and pray, read, and meditate on God's Word. It may also be a nice little hideaway to have a little tea party now and then with the fairies...
Many people have asked if we would have a Secret Garden and/or Memorial Garden area at this house dedicated to the memory of our son. Yes, we will. Our son Matthew loved to fish, and in my mind, I can see him standing on the shore of this pond and fishing to his heart's content. Maybe we will get a little row boat someday to paddle around in the pond, but it is too small for anything larger than that. (And probably too many lily pads as well). I know that Matthew would be very happy for us to have this place. I wish he could have been here to enjoy it with us...but somehow I think he will be here in spirit...and certainly in our hearts.
Meanwhile, we are getting closer and closer to closing on August 12. We won't be able to move in immediately, but we are lining up things that need to be done to prepare for our move. Needless to say, we are getting anxious and excited.
I will close with
some thoughts from Psalm 37
3. "Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
4. Delight yourself also in the Lord,
and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
5. Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
and He shall bring it to pass.
6. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as the noonday.
7. Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass."
"25. I have been young, and now am old;
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
nor his descendants begging bread.
26. He is ever merciful, and lends;
and his descendants are blessed."
Praise be to God!!
Amen!

"Dwell in the land"
ReplyDeleteAmen?
Ack...that question mark is an oops! It should say, "Amen!"
DeleteI thought maybe you were asking, "Can I get an amen?" I was just gonna say yes, Amen! LOL! And yes, "Dwell in the land"...Those are God's words to us...
DeletePamela, that's so beautiful the way you honor your son. Will you be clearing out all the land yourselves? Lots to keep you busy. And He will give you rest.
ReplyDeleteIt really isn't that large of a spot to clear, but we will probably hire someone with a tractor/bush-hog who can do it and haul away the debris for us. We are getting too old to do too much of that stuff. I just want it clear enough to put my bench in there and feel safe and not overwhelmed with bugs and stuff...LOL. Matthew was an avid outdoorsman who mostly dreamed of being able to go fishing when he wanted to and loved sitting in the woods behind his house. So, for us to have a pond and a tiny little wooded area will be a great way to remember him. I guess I just feel closer to him when I am outside.
DeleteBeautiful...I didn't know your son, however, I certainty feel like I do because how you have spoken about him...many hugs my friend.
ReplyDeleteMatthew was a wonderful man, and we miss him every day, but not in a way that brings sadness. We like to remember his fun loving ways and how he loved the outdoors, and that brings us a sense of being closer to him. We know he is happy and content in heaven, and we will see him again one day.
DeleteWhat a beautiful green place. I hope all goes well with your purchase and move.
ReplyDeleteThank you. We are trusting that it will all go according to God's plan.
DeleteI am glad things are coming along for you. It will be here before you know it. These things take time. I have some things I want to do but can't seem to get to them. I understand about being too old to do some things. We have to hire out our lawn care. A former neighbor has done a lot of our handyman work for us.
ReplyDeleteYes, after our first move over here to "the parsonage" we realized that we are not as young as we used to be, and moving is not for sissies. I do pray this will be the last move we have to make in our lifetime...I don't mind lawncare, at least the mowing part. I appreciate our son who will do the week whacking for us. But this yard is smaller than our last, and I hope it will be a little more maintenance free. Somewhat...we shall see...
DeleteI know it's exciting to be counting down the days until you close on your new home. The place you've chosen for your Secret Garden and Memorial is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I just hope the bugs won't be too bad to enjoy it there. At least in the fall/winter months it should be fine here in Florida. Summer time is pretty much a no no for outdoor stuff for me anymore. Just can't stand the heat and humidity. But fall/winter is beautiful for at least 6 months. Yes, we are counting down the days... Thank you.
DeleteI'm so excited for you! Everything is going to be so nice when you get it all down. I know it will take time but I'm looking forward to following your journey. I especially look forward to the new Secret Garden. Please don't work too hard and take good care of yourself. A big move can be very tiring. I know you look to the One who gives us strength in all our circumstances. It's wonderful to have a Father so faithful to His children.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am depending on the "One Who gives us strength in all our circumstances." Without His help, we could not be doing this...or anything!! We are truly blessed to have our heavenly Father working on our behalf. Yes, I will keep you posted on our journey. One day at a time. Thank you!!
DeleteSo exciting for you are you are now in the home stretch to moving in! I can't wait to see what you do with the Memorial Garden. It is such a lovely idea and I think you have just the right property in which to do it.
ReplyDeleteThank you! We are getting "anxious" to get moved in and get started on our new adventures, but God's timing is perfect, and we will try to be patient and wait on Him to work out all the fine details.
DeletePam, what exciting opportunities await you and John with your new home. As you shared the staking of your property, I was reminded of the boundary markers of the land in the OT.
ReplyDeleteBoundaries do serve a good purpose--even in relationships!
I look forward to learning about all your adventures in setting up your new Secret/Memorial Garden!
Love and blessings!
I was thinking of those "boundary markers of the land in the OT" when I wrote this, but couldn't come up with the appropriate scriptures...but it was definitely in my mind. Funny that you would pick up on that as well. Stay tuned for further developments.
DeleteThis post makes my heart so happy for you!! I hope you know you can count on a visit one day next year (when you are settled and my new knees are healed!).
ReplyDeleteOh, that would be so wonderful! Yes, get those knees healed up first, and then we can enjoy a good visit. Maybe we can even get Barbara and her hubby to join us. Wouldn't that be fun??
DeletePraying your move goes smoothly and your plans for the property are fulfilled.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. God is with us. We are thankful...
DeleteYou will have a lovely place when you are finished clearing out the under growth.
ReplyDeleteLove the verses.
Hugs, Sylvia
Thank you, Sylvia. We have a ways to go, but we also have the rest of our lives to get it done. I am trying to be patient and not try to do everything at once and wear ourselves out. But you know me...I want to get it done and start enjoying it.
DeleteJust lovely, Pamela! Praying for a smooth transition to your new home.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Thank you, Martha. We are trying to take it easy, one step at a time, and let the Lord guide us. But I want to get it done yesterday...patience is not one of my better virtues! Thank you for your prayers. I need them!
DeleteYou have been trusting in the Lord and doing good and now you are feeding on His faithfulness. What a lovely reminder as we look back over the long months of waiting for this time to come!
ReplyDeleteYou are going to love the setting of your new home! I love the pictures. Be sure to [eventually] show us BEFORE and AFTER pictures of the memorial garden area.
I am sooo happy for you!
I will definitely try to take pictures as we go in this process. It may take a while to get the Memorial Garden done, as we will need to get the house in order first. But I do hope to work on the garden in the fall when it cools down and we can enjoy it. Right now is just too hot, as you know. One day at a time...God is working at this on His own time table, and that is where I am trying to stay!!!
DeleteSo exciting and I’m sure Matthew would be so proud Pam . I’m excited to see YOUR garden that you create . I’ve always been envious of your secret garden but in a good way ❤️ Just melts my heart totally . So proud for you and can’t wait to see everything you do at your new home . Hugs and blessings , Cindy
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cindy. I know God is going to bless our new place and new garden. Yes, Matthew would be proud and happy for us. I guess in a way this place will help us keep his memory alive even more, just knowing it is something he would love. But...the good news is, he IS alive...and enjoying so much better in heaven than anything this world could offer. We are so "proud" for him...proud in a good way, knowing that he is safe and happy and totally healed in heaven. Praise God. Thank you for being supportive and such a precious friend. Hope we can meet and hug one day!!!
DeleteHaving just moved ourselves, I am excited for your move. How precious to have the memorial garden for your son. My sister is Karen from Lily Valley blog. Just want to say "hi" and to wish you all the best in your new home.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laurel. How nice of you to visit! I appreciate your kind words and best wishes. Please tell your sister Karen that we miss her. I hope she is doing okay? Please let her know that I have been hoping she will come back to blog again when she is able. Praying....
DeleteI just went and visited your blog and realize that you live in Toccoa, GA! We used to live there many years ago, and our oldest son graduated from Toccoa Falls College. Also, the son for whom we have the memorial garden also attended there, but did not graduate from there. Anyway, I am happy to meet you and look forward to getting better acquainted in the future. Thank you for visiting today.
DeleteJust took some time to stop by and say hi... so looking forward to seeing your secret, memorial garden! 💜
ReplyDelete"Dress it and keep it!" I know you will!! I am so excited to see it all when you move in.
