Well today (Thursday) we took another trip to visit with some very special friends who live a couple of hours away from us. You might remember these dear friends from our visit with them last August... Click Here for "A Day Spent With Special Friends" . Since that time things have not been so wonderful for them. Our dear friend Howard was diagnosed with colon cancer this past winter, and he has been suffering quite a bit for the past few months. We've wanted to go visit for some time, but there never seemed to be a good time for them, due to the side effects of this cancer itself. However, we knew we couldn't keep putting it off, so today we ventured south to visit...traveling through intermittent rain, but not bad enough to cause any problems. I did not take any pictures while we were with our friends today, but we spent every minute just visiting and appreciating the wonderful friendship that we have shared for about forty years. When God blesses you with true Christian friends who have been there for you through good times and bad, you find it hard to see them struggling with such health issues and feel so helpless to do anything to help. We did pray together and that is the best thing we can ever do.
So now, on a brighter note, I do have a few pictures to share from our actual trip along the country road today...
We "flew" past this old red caboose rather quickly, and I wasn't even sure if I'd captured a picture at all, so was delighted to see that it did turn out pretty good...Not sure what is being done with it...but I always love anything to do with trains, so was happy to see this...
All along the road I kept seeing these beautiful wild phlox and other wildflowers, and I finally convinced hubby to pull off the road and let me take a few pictures. I was hoping to also get pictures of the many little white and yellow butterflies that were flying all over these flowers, but they were moving too quickly for me to get any pictures of them...so just imagine little butterflies flitting from flower to flower:
This patch of wildflowers was right next to a huge big field of vegetables...yellow squash, corn, and other stuff I couldn't determine...but it sure looked healthy and green! So wonderful to see!!
Aren't these wildflowers gorgeous? Our God is so awesome...
If you looked at the link I posted above about our Day Spent with Special Friends (you could click this link as well), you will see that my dear friend Evelyn had done some very special things for me on that day last year...i.e.; she restored//salvaged a beautiful old quilt that my hubby's grandmother had made for us as a wedding gift...and I wanted her to see how I was using it now in our guest room:
Yes, this is a different quilt from the wedding ring quilt featured last week HERE (Welcome Guest), but I wanted to use it here as an alternative. The original squares on this quilt are still rather fragile to be used regularly due to the age of the fabric used, but it will serve very nicely as a "nap quilt".
I also wanted Evelyn to see that I am now using the beautiful art/plaque she created, using some of the scraps from this quilt...The antique picture in the center are some "borrowed ancestors"...no one we know, but this is just an art creation. However, I do have plans to insert an old picture of my hubby's grandmother in this space as soon as I can make a good copy of it...then it will represent her as the creator of the original quilt.
Now let's escape over to Deb's place at Breathing In Grace and see what our other Friday Foto Friends have been up to!! Oops! I just saw that Deb is unable to host our gathering tomorrow....I hope she is okay...we will miss her this week. So, I guess we are on our own...I may as well go ahead and post this tonight and you will see it tomorrow when you wake up!
I am seeing it tonight!
ReplyDeleteI also posted even though Debbie isn't hosting this week.
Petunia does seem like a good name for them. (My mother used to call me Petunia but not sure it was meant in a nice way as I was usually in trouble when I heard it.)
All the flower photos are wonderful and I love the caboose because I am a train nut.
Hope Friday is a great day for you.
It's prom night tomorrow around here and the Famous Anonymous has her first date for it with a very nice boy.
Ah! So "Petunia" was a term of endearment...or should I say "enDEERment" in this case! LOL. When I was in trouble I usually heard my full name spoken quite loudly... Glad you enjoyed the pictures, esp. the Caboose. I was tickled that the picture turned out since we were literally "flying" by it when I snapped the cell phone camera. I hope your "Famous Anonymous" has a lovely time tonight at the Prom. I'm sure you will be taking lots of pictures? Will we be able to see them? I'd love to see your daughter in her prom dress. I find today's prom dresses to be so "interestingly beautiful"...much different than when I was a teen...they are very elegant. Exciting times!!
DeleteGreat photo's, Pamela. I love wildflowers and your guest room is so nice, I could sleep comfortly in it. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sylvia. I love wildflowers too and just ooh and aaah all the time we are traveling down the road when they are blooming. The pictures really don't do them justice. I would love for you to come sleep comfortably in my guest room someday! That would be such fun. Then I'd love to go sleep in your guest room too!!! Hope your weekend is filled with joy and blessing.
DeleteBeautiful photos Pamela as usual you always take wonderful shots. Hope your day is one of many blessings. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Toni. I enjoyed getting out for a ride, and even with the rain it was a lovely day. May your day be filled with joy and blessing as well.
DeletePam, your post today was wonderful. I loved seeing all of the pretty flowers...and I clicked back to the posts that I've missed with being away for a bit. Your guest room is just beautiful. The art project for the wall is such a clever idea and I love it that you intend to insert a picture of your husband's grandmother in the frame. How special!
ReplyDeleteThe photos of the wildflowers took my breath away, Pamela. Oh, yes, such wonder and beauty in God's fulsome creation!
ReplyDeleteBlessings and happy weekend!
I love the wildflower pics. We had some beautiful wildflowers here this year and the bluebonnets especially. So glad your hubby took the time to stop and let you smell or take pics of the roses, so to speak. I'm really sorry about your friends. I don't mind growing older, but it is so sad when we see our friends or family suffering. The quilt is beautiful - you are rich with quilts. Love the wall frame, too.
ReplyDeleteThere is a dentist over in Plant City who turned a caboose into his dental office. It is kind of a landmark over there. Fun to see trains re-purposed. I enjoyed your photos and love the quilt and the wall piece! How beautiful!! Glad you got to see your friend and spend some time with them. Prayers lifted!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pleasant trip you must have had on a road so beautifully lined with flowers! The decoration of the room is meticulous and very elegant!
ReplyDeleteI wish you a nice weekend! Sandrine
Loved your pictures, as always. Do you know the name of the red and yellow daisy-like flowers on the side of the road? I see them a lot and wonder what they are.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt made by your husband's grandmother is the Log Cabin design. It's a treasure. I'm glad you are treating it gently.
The wildflowers are gorgeous. The spring-like weather always cheers me up and the flowers along the roads are outstanding. Peace and Blessings.
ReplyDeleteAs always, your photos of the flowers are breath-taking, Pam. Thank you for sharing bits of your life and faith here with us.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
What a special tribute the plaque is...a wonderful idea. Your wildflower fotos are so pretty. We have the orange wildflowers here in Tennessee, too. Thanks for going ahead and posting your FFF link up. You Ladies are so awesome! 💜
