Wednesday Treasures...A little "Rest for your Souls"

Happy Wednesday Morning! Welcome to my "Wednesday Treasures" for this week! This is the day I like to share special treasures that I find, either inside or outside of my home. Today will be a mixture of both.

Let's start with a verse for the day, which I believe goes along well with the things I see, and also for where we may be in our Lenten Journey leading up to Easter.

Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV
"28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

The rosebush that I recently planted is blooming again. I was afraid that some of the buds would be hurt by a late frost we had last week, and although some of the  edges of the petals are a little bit frost bit, that didn't stop the roses from blooming beautifully to give us such delight! This is how looks this morning

And this is how it looked yesterday morning...

Yes, there are two of them, and even though the frost did a little damage, they are blooming for the glory of God...and their fragrance is exquisite!

I thank the Lord for these little blessings...every blossom is a gift...

And here's another "gift", or "treasure"...Yes, that's Blackie, who came to visit me here in my little "Room With A View" while I was working h ere this morning...He just loves to be near us, wherever we are. Right now he's sleeping in Daddy's lap, but you've seen pictures of that before...

You may be getting tired of the pictures of the wisteria...but everytime I see them they are such a joy to me, I have to take their picture. We saw these in another location on our morning walk yesterday, growing there on an old homesite in our historic section of our little town, where they had to tear down or move the old houses to widen the highway you see there in the background...

I just love that these flowers continue to bloom every year in spite of the fact that the house where they were planted is long gone and the persons who tended  and cared for these plants are no longer there or even living to see the fruit of their labors from so many years ago. The flowers continue to grow and flourish and bless us today.  I wish those dear ones who planted these wisteria could see that what they did so long ago still matters and gives joy and delight today!  Oh! That my life could be that kind of treasure even long after I am gone...what we do here today does truly matter!!!

I wonder if all those trucks and people passing by on the highway even take notice of this beautiful treasure that is gracing the byway?  I did...I first saw it from the highway, and I knew I had to come see it up close and personal!  Yes, friends, the things we leave behind us do have a lasting impact on others who may pass by in the future!  Something to really think about, isn't it?

And speaking of our historical downtown, do you remember when I shared with you about this old building that used to be a general store for many many years, and was literally almost falling down in disrepair, and I kept hoping and praying that someone would come along and restore it???

Here's a link to a previous story about "The Brush General Store"

And here's another one! I've been obsessed with this store for a while! That link tells more of the history of the store, with some old pictures from way back in it's heyday!

Well, I was excited to see painters out working on it last week, and when I drove by last night on my way to choir practice, it appeared they were done painting, and look how lovely it is:

Now I am just waiting to see what the new owners are planning to do with it! I hope it will be something fun and exciting!

Back home to our house and the still very dry Still Waters Pond...some of you have asked about our Sand Hill Cranes. Normally this time of year they would have already been nesting and have had one or two baby "colts" by now.  However, this year, due to the very dry pond, they were unable to build their nest as usual. I think they may have tried to, but because there's no water surrounding their nesting area, they were accessible to predators who could literally walk across the pond to get to their nest, and I think that is exactly what happened, so our Sand Hill Crane couple is childless this spring. I don't know if they will try again if/when the pond ever gets any water...I assume they will just wait until next spring and try again then...hopefully! I miss watch the new baby "colts" growing up in our yard as they have for most every year we have lived here.

But anyway, here are some pictures of our couple standing out in the dry pond yesterday morning...

I hope they have another chance next year! Please pray for rain! We are supposed to get some later today, but it doesn't look like it will be much, if any.

This was the sunrise yesterday morning. Today it is too dark and cloudy, and I don't expect to see the sun all day...but there's still sunshine in my heart...

I hope you enjoyed these "treasures" today, and that this little time spent enjoying God's creation together was a time of "rest for your soul".
Have a blessed rest of your day and week.

  1. so sad for your cranes and for you and all of us with no babies to watch. when we had our beautiful flowers in the back yard, I took photos of the same flowers every time I went outside and posted most of them. I have a label called Backyard Jungle, and then labels for each flower hundreds of them. bring on the wisteria, I love it and we have no flowers at all but tiny weeds... and the jungle died in 2020 and never came back
Hugs to Blackie, he could sit in my lap if he wants too

  2. Your roses are gorgeous. Every bloom anywhere catches my eye. I walk at least twice a day with the baby and Gus, the Springer. I never take anything to listen to. I just love to listen to the birds and look at nature. There's some wisteria at the end of my path one way. I stop and admire it every single day at least twice a day. I love nature, but just like you, it is so dry up here. Our grass could use a good watering as well as the shrubs. I honestly think my day lilies and amaryllis would already be doing more if it was raining some. I think it is time for our prayers to be spoken.

  4. I feel so sad for the cranes, Pamela. Like you, I'm hoping that things will be better for them next year. The wisteria photos are lovely and I'm so glad the old store has been given a new lease on life. I'm sure you'll keep us updated on how it will be used in the future. Blessings!

  5. Hi Pamela, I think I have that same rose. I call it a candy cane rose. That is sad about the cranes not nesting and the pond drying out. I will pray you get some rain soon.

  6. The roses and wisteria are so beautiful! I also see a lovely Easter scene made by Benton in the background. We think it's so special and it's on our mantle. It'll be on my blog tomorrow!
I'm happy they are fixing up that old store and am anxious to see what they do with it.
I'm sad for the cranes and pray you get some rain!

  7. Each Day is Such a Treasure. I love your roses, frost bitten and all. Still beauty in the "flaws" ... seems there could be a sermon in there somewhere ...
It is sad that the cranes aren't nesting but hopefully next season will bring new life.
I love how your home is filled with little vignettes of your treasures throughout your place.
    hugs

  8. What a wonderful Blog topic -- Wednesday Treasures!
That roses colors are so very striking. Rich! I'm so glad your recent frosts weren't its undoing.
Like you, I'm sure taken with that old store's transformation. Actually, one of my favorite colors. If no-one was around, I'd be sorely tempted to take a closer look inside.

  9. That rose is beautiful. The wisteria is so pretty. How nice that you saw painters and it will be interesting what goes into that building. That is interesting about the cranes. Hope they do well this year. Have a nice day.

  12. Oh wow, I didn't realize you all were so dry down there! I sure will be praying you get some rain soon. This has been a wet winter and spring for us. It's sort of unusual. Those roses are gorgeous!
Also, thank you so much for all the prayers for my family recently. They have helped tremendously. My girl still has a lot of work to do, but she has some new tools to work with and is doing pretty well about taking care of herself. The family went to an indoor water park today for a school field trip. Glad they could do that.

  13. I am so surprised that with the dry weather you all have had, that the wisteria is such a deep purple color. I love wisteria but really wish it would hold blooms for a longer period of time. Goodness Pamela..that rose is stunning. my roses are beginning to bloom and bless their hearts, I finally put out some rose feed. They probably feel neglected. Blackie is enjoying his best life. I enjoy seeing the pictures of him as he soaks up all the love. Each day is a blessing and I am so thankful to be enjoying the beauty of Spring.

  14. Oh, I will never get tired of you sharing your flowers, garden and more with us. I love roses, but the beetles eat ours here in Wisconsin. I am planting some plants that are to help with that. The other plants are to be more of what the beetles want to eat. So am in hopes these plants the beetles will go to, and leave the roses alone.
    Praying for rain for you.

  16. I can see I'll have to comment on my strawberry picture as these ones are very late in the season. The shops are also advertising them for $1 a kilo and that is very cheap so I think there must be a glut of them.
I had to go back and look at the posts of the house, what a big difference the new owners have made, it was quite derelict, wasn't it? It'll be interesting to see what they make of it, so you'll have to keep us posted.
You'll be wanting a real downpour to fill the pond but it may be getting too late for the cranes to raise a family this year, such a shame.
And Blackie makes me laugh, the big outdoor cat has discovered the joys of the indoors :)

  17. I love roses and yours are exquisite. I have less experience with wisteria but I agree that the ones near you are beautiful. I do take time to stop and appreciate flowers along the way, especially those that don't appear to be taken care of and yet they thrive. I'm so glad Blackie found his forever home. Isn't he a wonderful companion for both you and your husband? Praying you will get more rain soon.
