Here it is Monday, August 22, and I still haven't posted my usual monthly calendar post! August has just slipped right through my fingers with so much activity going on.
There's been no time for me to go swing on a swing like this sweet little girl and her doggy...the caption says "After Chores"...that's probably why I haven't...the chores just keep coming! LOL.
This painting is from my "Country Seasons" Calendar by John Sloane. His paintings always seem to capture my heart. Wouldn't you love to be there too? Oh to be a carefree child again...
Then on another wall in my "Room with a View" I have this Teapot Calendar, which features a different delightful teapot each month. My dear sister Doris gives me this calendar each year for Christmas, although she said last year they are getting more difficult to find...so we shall see what happens this year! I save them from year to year because they have so many interesting pictures and stories about teatime around the world...like this one from Rustic Brittany:
Now don't you want to find a delicious loaf of crusty bread and slather it with some creamy fresh butter and have a cup of tea with me? Let's do it!!
We can pretend we are sitting in this lovely cottage, which was painted so beautifully by Thomas Kinkade...Now that truly would be a delight!
One delightful thing that happened this month was our anniversary, which you already know about. We received this beautiful card from a thoughtful gentleman in our church who makes it his ministry to send out cards to everyone for their birthdays and anniversaries. Little did he know that swans are especially meaningful to us. My hubby bought the lovely glass swans for me one year because he remembered that his mother told us that swans were a part of our family crest on her mother's side. And even though I have been unable to verify that claim, it was still a beautiful thought and we have adopted it for ourselves. So receiving this lovely card on our anniversary was very touching.
Next week we will celebrate our son's birthday on his actual birthday...and then again we will celebrate with the family at large on Labor Day! Family from a couple of hours away will be traveling here on Labor Day so we can actually celebrate not only Ben's birthday, but our nephew Nicholaus' birthday, which is on the same day, just 31 years apart, and also my husband's brother Bill's birthday, which was earlier this month, and also my niece Debbie's birthday, which is a few days after Ben's birthday! Then of course there was our anniversary, and my hubby's brother Bill and wife Peggy will have an anniversary this month as well! August is a big month! Oh, wait! I almost forgot, my niece and her hubby had their anniversary this month too! And their son will have a birthday right around Labor Day...so it will be a BIG celebration! Everyone is coming here and they all want to tour Dixie Cottage after lunch! It will be a fun fun day!
So moving right along and flying by to say so long, like this pontoon plane that flew over us the other day while we were walking...

ReplyDeleteI have never heard that's why they serve bread and butter, maybe cookies too, with tea. Funny! These days people avoid bread. 😂
I am waving at you! Wish you could just parachute down and enjoy a tea party with me! As far as bread goes, if I have a fresh loaf of some kind of homemade bread, there's no avoiding it for me! Slathered with butter and maybe some strawberry jam...oh yeah!!! That's a heavenly treat if you ask me! Now I want to bake some bread...

My son says bread is his jam. Mine, too. I can think of no food any finer. Sounds as if your family has a wonderful reunion just ahead. So many reasons to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vee! Yes, my mouth is watering for some real homemade bread now. Not sure if I can make it right now, but I am tempted... And yes, we are looking forward to having our family together again. I pray for a breath of cooler weather if only for one day so we can be outside some of the time. Probably unlikely here in Florida, but we can always dream. LOL.

DeleteI truly enjoyed seeing all of your calendars and the explanations that you shared with us. We have had high tea in England at some smashing, (fancy), hotels with our dear daughter-in-law. Me in my home-sewn dresses at all! :-) No one cared. Tea-time is almost a sacred rite there and I love taking part in it all.

Those swans are almost identical aren't they? How sweet of your friend to send cards to everyone. I used to do the same at our church in Spokane. At our church here in Omaha, there is no fellowship list so I have no addresses to be able to send cards out. I do miss it but still send them to the church in Spokane.
I hope you enjoy all of the celebrations upcoming in your family as I'm sure you will. Summer is quickly winding down isn't it?

Thank you, Betsy, for popping in! Oh, how wonderful to have "high-tea" in England at those "smashing" hotels. That would certainly be a treat, and I am sure you looked stunning in your "home-sewn dresses". What could be finer than that? Yes, I love the Thomas Kinkade calendars and especially love the places he depicts. He was certainly a very talented artist. Oh, I also send out cards to everyone in our church, and they are signed as from "Your friends at ...church". It was a little "job" that was handed over to me by a lady who used to do it and they have moved on to another place. Thankfully our church is small and I can manage it, and I enjoy doing it. Another lady keeps up with the addresses of all new people and sends them to me, so we work together on this project. It really is nice to receive real cards from people. Sadly that is becoming a lost art, along with handwritten letters. I do miss getting real letters in the mail, especially from my mother, who has been long gone to heaven for over 15 years. I've kept a lot of her letters and love to re-read them occasionally...they are like a journal of sorts. Well, sorry, I'm wool-gathering. LOL. Thank you for visiting. Yes, I am looking forward to the family all coming here for Labor Day. It's been a long time since we've been together. DeleteIsn't it funny, August seems to be flying for you and I'm like, "will this month EVER be over?" I'm so going to ask Santa Claus for a Kincaid calendar like yours! But wow, that tire swing brings back sweet memories! In fact, one of my favorite photos is one of me in front of my grandparent's farmhouse -- I have it right there in the left margin on my blog to remind me I was once carefree. (ha)

ha ha! I guess because we suddenly got so busy the time is flying by. Re: the Kinkade calendar, I usually pick one up at Walmart or wherever I can find one reasonably. I especially liked this one because it had Scripture verses on each month as well. You can also go online on Amazon or Lang and find lots of calendars. Yes, I remember swinging actually on a little wooden swing at my grandparents' cabin in PA. We would swing up really high and then jump out. Not too smart. Lucky we didn't get a broken arm or worse! but when you are young you don't think of those things! Yes, we are looking forward to being together...now I just need to get my house clean! Re: the Teapot calendar, it is called "The Collectible Teapot Calendar for 2022 (or whatever year). It is published by "Workman Publishing Co., Inc., New York NY 10014. Also it says "pageaday.com" for the website. I hope this helps! I'm not sure where my sister gets it each year, but probably she orders it online. Good luck!!
