Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!
What Do You See Outside YOUR Open Window Today?
Remember: "When God closes a door, He always opens a window!" You never know what might be out there waiting for you!

Weakness and Strength...and A Little Adventure Just for Fun!
Just some turkeys crossing the road...a great way to start our Monday!
Here's a quick Monday morning check in! I hope you are all doing well and that you had a good weekend. My weekend was good for the most part. Had a few glitches with the neck spasms on Friday during therapy and also on Saturday, but by Sunday I was feeling much better, praise the Lord! Good enough to go to church and worship with our church family...
The Praise Team singing "There's Power in the Blood" was actually recorded last year. But the Pastor's sermon from Philippians 3:1-11 is current.
If you want to sing along with us, here are the words to this old time gospel song:
"Would you be free from your burden of sin?
There’s power in the blood, power in the blood.
Would you o’er evil a victory win?
There’s wonderful power in the blood.
There is power, power, wonderworking power in the blood of the lamb
There is power, power, wonderworking power in the precious blood of the lamb.
Would you be free from your passion and pride?
There’s power in the blood, power in the blood.
Come for a cleansing to Calvary’s tide
There’s wonderful power in the blood.
There is power, power, wonderworking power in the blood of the lamb
There is power, power, wonderworking power in the precious blood of the lamb.
Would you be whiter, much whiter than snow
There’s power in the blood, power in the blood.
Sin stains are lost in its lifegiving flow.
There’s wonderful power in the blood.
There is power, power, wonderworking power in the blood of the lamb
There is power, power, wonderworking power in the precious blood of the lamb.
Would you do service for Jesus your King?
There’s power in the blood, power in the blood.
Would you live daily His praises to sing?
There’s wonderful power in the blood."
There is power, power, wonderworking power in the blood of the lamb
There is power, power, wonderworking power in the precious blood of the lamb.
Amen!
After going out to lunch at our local True Grits restaurant with some friends and family, we came home and rested up for a while. Then Lily Grace was begging to go for an adventure...a Scavenger Hunt, to be exact. You can read all about it over on her page: https://adventuresoflilygrace.blogspot.com/2021/07/lets-go-on-scavenger-hunt.html
We had so much fun doing this, that we thought you might want to join in the fun! This would be a great adventure to do with your grandchildren or just by yourself. Then be sure to take pictures of your discoveries and share them in your next post! Here's the list, which actually came from the August edition of Better Homes and Gardens magazine, and you can upload it on your phone here:
There you see all the items you are to go searching for! Don't forget to take a picture when you find it! I think it would be fun to see how many different ones you can find in your neighborhood/town. Then please let me know when you do it! Hey! If I can do this, so can you! Enlist a cooperative husband or friend to go along with you. I think my hubby had just as much fun as we did. I am amazed at his patience with me and my little friend Lily Grace. Gotta love a man who will drive all over town with his crazy wife and her cute little doll, stopping the car every time she yells "STOP! I want to take a picture of that!" Sometimes we had to make a few u-turns to go back to the spot because he couldn't stop as fast as I could yell for him to stop. You get the picture I am sure. Oh, here's a few pictures that I didn't share on Lily's page:
When we had stopped the car on one of the back roads where we like to go walking to take a picture of a fire hydrant, I looked down the road and saw what I thought at first to be a bunch of buzzards gathered around some good road-kill. But on second glance I realized these were turkeys! A whole big flock of turkeys!! I'm thinking someone must be feeding them for them to all gather in that spot, boy did they start strutting across the road in a hurry when they saw me:
Sorry this isn't better quality, but it was my cell phone and that's as far as it goes for distance.
These pictures do beg the question:
Why did the turkey cross the road????
To get to the other side, of course...and away from the crazy lady with the doll and the camera, I'm sure!
On that note, I think I will say have a good day!
I'm off to therapy again this morning. Praying it doesn't get my nerves and muscles all in a spasm again. I know you gotta have some pain to make things get stronger, but jeepers...
One of the fellas in Sunday School yesterday made this observation, which I thought worth quoting:
"Pain is the body's way of getting rid of weakness."
Come to find out, that is a variation of a famous quote by someone named Chesty Puller:
I had no idea who "Chesty Puller" was, so I looked him up:
"Chesty Puller, in full Lewis Burwell Puller, (born June 26, 1898, West Point, Virginia, U.S.—died October 11, 1971, Hampton, Virginia), United States Marine Corps officer who was the most decorated and venerated Marine in the history of the Corps. Across three wars and two counterinsurgency campaigns, Puller won five Navy Crosses and earned an unrivaled place in the hearts of Marines as the quintessential Leatherneck—“hard as the frontal armor of a tank, tenacious as a bulldog, courageous to a fault, and scornful of anyone or anything that did not wear the eagle, globe, and anchor insignia.”
I might have known he was a Marine. Sounds like something a Marine officer would say to his recruits.
But hey, it makes sense. So if I want this weakness to leave my body, I guess I need to suffer a little pain in the process. So say a prayer for me! Thank you.
I prefer what God says to us through His Word:
9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
II Corinthians 12:9-10
Maybe there's a blending of thoughts here...through my physical weakness, Christ's power will become more perfect in me. He will give me the grace and the strength I need to face this challenge and any other challenge that comes in the future. This is another kind of strengthening exercise.
Okay...now...go find those items on the Scavenger hunt, and have a blessed day!!!
Oh, I love that old hymn! (Thanks for including the lyrics I'd forgotten.) Yep, your hubby's sure a trooper! Those buzzards -- albeit turkeys -- sure would've creeped me out, but y'all did a good job! Nope, I never heard of Chesty Puller; that quote's something to chew on. I'm gonna remember it. I'm off to Bible study in a few minutes, but yes. Thinking of you and saying a prayer!
Thank you, Myra! I'm glad you enjoyed the hymn. It's an old favorite for sure. I'm thankful for that "Power in the blood of the lamb" today. He gives me strength from day to day. I'm praying He takes this weakness/pain out of my body and gives me lasting strength physically as well. Glad you are at Bible Study and also thankful for the prayers. You are a blessing!
Sorry that you are still dealing with the pain and discomfort. Having dealt with pain, I know what a misery it is. I must say that when I ask The Lord for His help I get relief.
Thanks for telling me about Chesty Puller. It. makes perfect sense now. (My father (a Marine) would refer to Chesty Puller from time to time and the reference flews right over my head.
Thank you, Vee. I had therapy this morning and did much better than last week, so I am making progress, praise God! I am praying my way through this, and He is helping day by day. Yeah, I never heard of Chesty Puller before, but when someone made this comment yesterday in our class, I looked it up and found out where it came from. Interesting that your father referred to him too. He must have had a lot of influence in his day! And it still goes on!! It would be wonderful to have that much influence in a positive spiritual sense that lives on long after we are gone, wouldn't it? Praying it may be so, for the glory of God. Amen. Yes, that was a big flock of turkeys! I was amazed.
I had to chuckle at you might have known it was a Marine who said that originally. Tougher than me for sure. I like your sentiment at the end. I need His strength for sure. I do hope therapy goes better....may the end result in less pain I guess we should say. I have a sick pup here today. We are seeing the vet after lunch if he can hang on until then. A baby is coming Wednesday with inducing if not before. Wednesday would be good. I need to get the dog good and take Mother grocery shopping. Your scavenger hunt looked fun
Oh no. I am sorry your pup is sick. Praying he will be okay. You have a lot going on this week...new baby!! I will be praying for you to get through everything with joy and many blessings and a healthy happy baby and doggy feeling better too. (((Hugs)))
Thank you, Cathy. It would be a fun thing for your grandson to do where he lives! You might want to send him (or your daughter)a copy of the scavenger hunt, and he can send you the pictures of things that he finds. Thank you for your prayers. I am better today and very thankful.
Pam: I enjoyed your scavenger hunt. While I don't remember going on one, I hear they can be a lot of fun. I will have to download it and print it for my friends. I believe they will enjoy doing it. I am thankful you are feeling better. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
Oh, that would be fun if you and some of your friends could challenge each other and do this! I think it is fun for all ages. I am feeling better today and very very thankful for the prayers. Blessings to you and yours today as well.
I am thankful therapy went better today, from your comment above, and I am happy you could attend church and lunch out yesterday. I did view your blog on the scavenger hunt. Wish I was well enough and could drive to join in the fun. Praying that you improve every day.💞
Oh, Mildred, I wish you could too. It would be a fun way to take your mind off things, but I do understand when you are in pain you don't want to do anything by avoid pain and conflict. Praying for you every day too. (((hugs)))
A scavenger hunt. Haven't done that since ... well, forever. *giggle* That's a nice adventure idea. Good for all ages. Great pic of the turkey's. There's more of them here now since coyote hunting is allowed 24/7. The coyote's were decimating the population. I hope you're feeling better today. Blessings. xx
I don't know that we have coyote hunting here in this area. It wouldn't be a bad idea, however. We do seem to have a healthy population of turkeys around here. Gobble gobble! It's never too late to do a scavenger hunt! Might be a fun adventure for you and your hubby!! Is he game for a game? Would love to see your pictures if you do!! I am feeling some better today. The PT wasn't too terrible, so I am thankful to the Lord for His healing grace. Have a blessed day. We are finally getting some rain!!
Yes, the strength of Christ IS made perfect in our weakness, Pamela. Praying that enduring the pain of the treatments will make you stronger in Him. Enjoyed the parade of turkey vultures, and the earlier scavenger hunt with Lily Grace. Such fun! Blessings!
Thank you, Martha. You are very insightful always... You are on my heart and mind very much during these days. Praying the Lord is carrying you through this time of sorrow. Glad you enjoyed the scavenger hunt and the turkeys. These were real turkeys, not vultures. I thought they were vultures when I first looked, but then realized they were turkeys on parade. I guess they'll be hiding out until Thanksgiving...
Thank you, Ruth. Who said "inch by inch, anything's a cinch?" It's getting better, but I need to pace myself both in sitting and doing things. I am thankful that today was a better day. And yes, those turkeys were trotting along rather smartly! Have a blessed day.
I am so glad the therapy is starting to help, Pam, and hoping you didn't spasm more after todays session! That is quite a parade of turkeys you caught! We sang a couple of folder hymns on Sunday, including Rock of Ages. I love the old tunes! xo
Today has been a better day, thank the Lord. I am just having a bit of a spasm this evening...I think I sat too long watching Murdoch's Mysteries. Did you tell me about that show? On Acorn, detective in Toronto in 1890. It's a good one and we are enjoying it. Anyway, yes, that was a definite turkey parade! I hope they hide themselves before Thanksgiving. Rock of Ages is one of my favorites. See you soon!
I wish you could get more pain relief! Pain is so very wearing. You don't complain but it's just so miserable. Hugs to you (gentle hugs that won't send your neck into a spasm!).
Thank you, Holly. Actually, I seem to be doing better today, and I pray that each day I will improve. Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. Having friends who care makes a big difference in how we feel! And your hug would be most welcome, even if it did cause a spasm! I could endure it for a hug! :) Blessings to you today, and thank you again.
I am anxious to catch up with you. It has been a lonf hot week so far and I am trying to get back into my daily routine. I love the music and of curse, the song. Interesting info on the USMC, that made me smile. I am so sorry for the pain you have. It really takes everything out of a person. You are such a kind heart. I am very grateful I know you here and pray you have more good days than bad ones. I look forward to seeing Lily Graxe and her adventures too. Take care
Thank you so much! I am glad you are home and getting back into the "groove". It's always hard after a vacation, and yet in some ways it is always good to get home and back into a routine. Today has been a better day and I am praying that the therapy is beginning to work. I just have to be more consistent in doing the exercises. Lily Grace sends her love. Have a blessed and wonderful day.
I'm sorry to hear of your neck pain Pamela, certainly praying for you that the treatment brings healing! I like the quote you shared, its an interesting one, and no doubt true, I've heard that pain will spur the body to heal itself. Your turkeys are about like our turkeys here, slow and in no hurry to get across the road! We have so many of them, that they are now a pest and nuisance, although I do enjoy them, but we can't feed them, because they will just come in huge groups! I hope you continue to have a good week, and prayers that your neck will receive healing soon!
Thank you, Marilyn. My neck does seem to be feeling some better each day, for which I am very thankful. One day at a time... And yes, those turkeys were in quite a large flock. I do believe someone was feeding them, but they will be sorry if they keep having so many they won't be able to keep up with them. But they are fun to watch. I hope you have a blessed and wonderful day and week too. God bless you and thank you again.
I'm glad to hear your neck was feeling better by Sunday and I hope as you continue in therapy that your neck will feel better and better. I enjoyed the hymn. I miss hearing the old hymns which are hardly sung anymore in most places I've attended. Have an awesome week!
Thank you, Penny. Yes, my neck is doing some better and I pray it will continue. I am glad you enjoyed the hymn. I love the old hymns and am so happy our church loves to sing them. We have a good mix of songs, both old and new, and that seems to make everyone happy! The important thing is to sing praises to the Lord, one way or the other!! I hope you are having an awesome week too!
Love that hymn and I'm going to be humming it all day! Funny fact...back in the day a friend and I led a women's exercise group at church and one of the tapes we used was set to hymns. I still think of some of the moves every time I hear it. So if I am ever near you when it plays and you see me doing some rather hillbilly-ish squats, you'll know why. LOL I saved the picture of the scavenger hunt idea. I think Colton would love doing it. I just don't know when we might get to it. Work is going to be crazy busy for the next couple of weeks.
I am glad you will be humming some good old fashioned gospel music...even if you do do some "rather hillbilly-ish squats". That would be quite a sight to see! LOL. Oh, I do hope you and Colton can do the Scavenger Hunt sometime. You could modify it to be better for where you are...but I just thought it was a cute idea that could be a lot of fun for the "young'uns." (talk about hillbilly-ish ideas). LOL. Glad you are working. I am sure those dear people are so blessed and happy to have you there with them. What a wonderful "ministry". Thank you!
Thank you for visiting here today. I would love for you to sign my guestbook and let me know you stopped by. I always enjoy reading your comments and words of encouragement! May you be blessed as you go on your way. Please come back and visit again soon.
Oh, I love that old hymn! (Thanks for including the lyrics I'd forgotten.)
