Friday Foto Friends-Joyful Trees and Other Beauties

"Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it.
Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the Lord.

For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth.

He shall judge the world with righteousness,

And the peoples with His truth."
Psalm 96:12-13

We took a ride this past week to a little town on the other side of the St. John's River, to visit some dear people at a church where my husband used to be the pastor. They had invited him to come and speak at a "Seniors Luncheon" ...JOY...Just-Older-Youth, they call themselves, and afterwards we enjoyed a marvelous pot-luck luncheon.  I'd say we were definitely in luck with that luncheon...such great cooks they have at that church! It was a wonderful time of singing, preaching, and eating.  The pictures above were taken as we drove around that little community,..the town is known for its fern business, supplying ferns to the florists of the nation.  The top pictures are of a natural hammock of oak trees with the ferns growing underneath their shade. So beautiful, don't you think?

The picture below is of the church parsonage next door, where the pastor lives. That is where we lived when we served at that church almost 20 years ago! (Time sure flies!) We weren't there for very long, but yet we made such long lasting friendships there...some very special people. So thankful for the privilege of serving the Lord there.

"Oh sing to the Lord a new song!
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, bless His name;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day."
Psalm 96:1-2

This little mockingbird likes to perch on the tree right outside our bathroom window. I love the expression on his face as he is looking in at me looking out at him!
I wonder what he is thinking? Maybe I should ask you to caption this...

And speaking of looking out the windows, this is what I saw this morning (Thursday) when I looked out our front windows to our front yard:

What a wonderful way to start the day!!

In this picture below the deer had all run over to the far side of the yard as a truck drove by on the road. They were ready to leap into the woods and hide if that truck had gotten any closer...

After the truck passed by, the leader of the herd went to the road to check both ways before they decided to move on down the road themselves... (I love that one little deer who always seems to know I'm watching them)

And there they go!

Back to the back yard fence we go...I came home today from a ladies' luncheon (forgot to take pictures!)  and found these "new friends" sitting on the fence posts...Our neighbor loves to tease us with these things he finds at yard sales and he wants to share them with us so he leaves them on the fence posts for us to enjoy.  I think I need to tell him that we are trying to downsize and get rid of things, but I don't want to hurt his feelings. He is a dear soul and this is his way of having fun...so we are playing along and having fun with this...
"Oh come, let us sing to the Lord!

Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before His presence with Thanksgiving;

Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms."
Psalm 95:1-2

I hope that each of you will have a marvelous Thanksgiving...hard to believe that is next week already! I know it will be a busy week for all, so we will catch up with each other as we are able.  The important thing is BE Thankful in all things!! We are a very blessed people. Please Pray for the people in California who have lost their homes, and also for those in Mexico Beach, FL and Panama City, FL, who are all suffering the loss of their homes and many also who have lost loved ones. May God be merciful to them and send the help that they need. Amen.

Now let us venture over to Deb's place at Breathing in Grace and visit our other Friday Foto Friends.

  1. My first thought with that first photo was what a beautiful canopy. What a nice treat for you to visit your old friends and see the house where you lived and enjoy all that good food. I like that name for them JOY. I always enjoy the sights you see on a daily basis. I saw a mockingbird like that watching me walk Annie the other day. When we were driving to Tulsa, a deer ran out in front of me as I was driving at 75! I slammed on the brakes and he made it to the median, looked both ways and then backtracked again in front of me. I was so thankful I was able to stop! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

    1. Whew! I am so glad you were able to stop in time for that deer. That could have been bad for both of you! We hit a deer once and it totaled our car, so we watch really carefully when we have to drive at night especially. Thank you for visiting here today. Yes, God is good...all the time good!!!

  2. Morning Pamela. Love the photos of the trees and what lovely memories of the church parsonage for you and a nice visit to see old friends. Of course your nature photos as usual are wonderful. Enjoyed seeing the gifts of the "new friends" left by your neighbor for both of you to share too. Have a day of blessings my friend.

    1. Thank you, Martha. I do hope you have a blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving as well. Sometimes we just need to get away and look for the peaceful settings to get our hearts and spirits refocused. God is everywhere present...we just need to be aware!

    1. That's a very nice thought. I thought he was in shock seeing me in the bathroom looking out at him...LOL. But yes, the birds know when it is a wonderful day. They get up early to give praise to their Creator!!!

  6. Great photos and scripture, Pam!! What fun to be back with old friends for such a nice occasion! That parsonage looks like it is cozy. Lives touch and we always leave part of us behind and how wonderful when we can visit those 'parts' now and then!

    1. Yes, I agree. That is one place that we have felt welcome to go back to many times...they are very gracious, loving people...and they were a blessing to us at a time that we were the ones in need of encouragement. God knows just what we need when we need it.

    1. Thank you Cecelia. It is always such a joy to see these things to take pictures of. God provides so much for us to enjoy each day if we just take the time to look around us.

  8. The photo w/the ferns is my favorite. It looks like an outdoor cathedral. I didn't know ferns from that area are sent so far and wide!

And the little figurines -- that's fun!

    1. I'm glad you saw the "cathedral" in the trees. That was my first impression as well. Yes, this is Pierson, Fl, and, yes, the ferns go all over the country if not the world. It is quite a business. And yes, the figurines are fun...even if I will have to pack them. Actually they may become someone's "white elephant Christmas gift" . LOL. Have a blessed weekend.

    1. Thank you, Carol. Yes, I love the trees too...just couldn't resist a picture of them. And the deer, well, what can I say? They are such fun to watch. I feel so blessed to see them so often, and I know others enjoy them as well. Thank you.

  10. You have a lot of deer friends there! I hope you have a nice weekend and Thanksgiving week. I am praying for California, I have a granddaughter who lives there but not in the wildfire area.

    1. Thank you, Karen. Yes, we do have some "dear deer" friends here. Both kinds. Oh, I am so glad your granddaughter is not near the wildfires. That is such a horrible thing, and it breaks my heart to see so many homes destroyed, which represents family homes and lives uprooted. So very sad.

  11. JOY...Just-Older-Youth. I LOVE that concept!!! I had to go back and look at the foto again when you explained those were ferns underneath the trees. WOW!! That's just amazing! It had to be beautiful to see. What a sweet, fun neighbor you have. And, that wildlife...I wish I could look out my windows and see that instead of a neighbor straight across the street. (insert sad face) When we moved here, it was all woods around us...now it's all people. (insert another sad face) HOPE you have a wonderfully blessed THANKSgiving! (are you shocked I'm visiting on Friday?!??!)

    1. So happy to have you visiting. I understand what you mean about neighbors instead of woods, but then again, I am trying hard to prepare myself to perhaps live in a neighborhood again with more neighbors possibly, and to be able to be a lighthouse to others as the Lord directs. We don't know how the Lord might use us. But, yes, I am a woods lover, and love to see nature in all its beauty. However, we are called to be salt and light. (I'm talking to myself here...please don't think I am reprimanding...it is a struggle for me to live around a lot of people. I tend to prefer deer and birds and bears...) Yes, we do have a sweet neighbor behind us. He is a kind of a loner, but he loves to give little gifts, and has done so since the day he moved here. We return the gift by sharing our family/friends dinners with him...he will enjoy Thanksgiving with us. He gave me a lovely cut-glass turkey dish to hold cranberry sauce that belonged to his mother, (who is in a nursing home), so we will use that on our table. I know he will miss us when we move, and we will miss him as well. So praying God will send someone to buy our house who will care for him as we have and vice versa. Yes, Just Older Youth...and they live up to the JOY part for sure. It was such fun. Have a blessed Thanksgiving. Take care of yourself and enjoy your precious Mama while you can. I know you do.

  12. Such beautiful photos you've shared. So many beautiful ones but I think the very first one is my favourite. It just took my breath away.

You are so blessed to have made wonderful, long time friends at the place you used to shepard. It's so awesome when we make beautiful friends in Christ. The best kind :-)

Your neighbour sounds like a nice person I hope you will be able to find a home for all the fun stuff he leaves for you to enjoy :-)

    Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Thank you, Joyful. Yes, the first photo was my favorite as well. A cathedral of sorts, don't you think? Yes, God has blessed us with precious friends wherever we have gone, and these folks at this little church have been especially wonderful to us through the years. Our neighbor here is a sweet fellow...kind of a loner, but we have "adopted" him and he will join us for Thanksgiving dinner next week. His little "gifts" are being disbursed among us with smiles. He has given me a lovely cut glass Turkey dish that will hold our cranberry sauce next week. It belonged to his mother, and that is how she used it, so we will do the same. I will have to show pictures next week. We are blessed with good people, and so thankful for each and every one, even you dear friends here in "blogland". Such a happy reunion we will have one day in glory!!!

  13. Don't tell him you are downsizing! Just regift them to someone else as they come, or attach some of them to the posts and leave them there for the next people to enjoy. Its a cute idea I think. The wolf howling is especially a nice idea on the post.
I kind of like having neighbors. After all the world was made for people. I love having kids noise in the neighborhood around me too. I would feel lonely without it.
Lovely ferns and lovely photos this week.

  14. A beautiful post, Pam!!! I LOVE that first picture-Wow!!! We had a JOY group in our old church, too. They did lots of things together. There is a beauty in having old friends, isn't there? A different relationship than those with newer friends.

I hope you have a blessed Sunday- xo Diana

  15. A lovely post Pamela. I enjoyed seeing where you lived and ministered earlier in your life. I enjoyed seeing the deer in the yard and I especially enjoyed the whimsical pieces your lovely neighbor leaves for you. What a fun thing to do :)
