Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!

Thankful Thursday
"Praise the Lord!
Praise the name of the Lord;
Praise Him, O you servants of the Lord!
You who stand in the house of the Lord,
in the courts of the house of our God,
Praise the Lord,
for the Lord is good'
sing praises to His name,
for it is pleasant."
Psalm 135:1-3
Today is Thankful Thursday...although every day is a day to be thankful to our Lord for His goodness and mercy and kindness unto us, His precious children.
The past several days we have had some wonderful rain here in our neck of the woods...and I am so very thankful for this. Here is a little glimpse of the rain clouds forming over Lake Kerr one morning this past week as we took a little ride to get me out of the house...
And I am very thankful to see how the flowers, trees, and grass are growing as a result of all this wonderful rain.
This is a Rain Lily, which only blooms when we have rain...
I am so thrilled that the wisteria is blossoming again after we had cut it all down when we put up the new fence a couple of months ago!
The Crape Myrtles are starting to blossom,
and the little Drake Elm tree we planted in April is really growing as a result of all the rain:
Today I am thankful to be getting stronger since my little surgery almost two weeks ago. I made my first trip to Walmart today, which was tiring, but I am so thankful to have survived. Could not have done it without my sweet hubby taking the lead and taking care of check out, lifting, and carrying everything in the house. I am so blessed.
I am thankful for my comfortable home, this wonderful reclining chair, and the ability to mend the binding on our favorite "blankie"...
"For the Lord has chosen Jacob for Himself,
Israel for His special treasure.
For I know that the Lord is great,
and our Lord is above all gods.
Whatever the Lord pleases He does,
In heaven and in earth,
In the seas and in all deep places.
He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth;
He makes lightning for the rain;
He brings the wind out of His treasuries..."
Psalm 135:4-7
"Your name, O Lord,
endures forever,
Your fame, O Lord,
throughout all generations.
For the Lord will judge His people,
And He will have compassion on His servants."
Psalm 135:13-14
"Oh, give thanks to the Lord,
for He is good!"
Psalm 136:1

You look so happy and cute in your blue top, mending your blanket. The rain is helping all kinds of growth around your house, including the rain lilies (new to me).
ReplyDeleteThank you Terra. Yes, the rain lilies are unusual...they pop up when we get a lot of rain and bloom for one day. They are often seen alongside the roads. I guess they are technically a wildflower.
DeleteYou look very nice in your chair and very well. I didn't know about rain lilies. Doesn't Florida get a little rain almost every day? So the rain lilies might bloom more often or is it just from a heavy rain shower. High five to your husband for taking such good care of you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nonnie. Florida has been in quite a drought this past year, and we hadn't had any rain to speak of all spring...so we are very thankful for the rains that are now finally coming. Yes, hopefully we will get some kind of rain almost every afternoon during the summer months. The rain lilies are mostly a late spring/early summer event...they are wildflowers that just pop up in the strangest places! There are several in my yard, when it rains!
DeleteI love the flowers you have down there. My grandmother, when she lived in west central Georgia had a Crepe Myrtle bush that I remember as being beautiful. You are looking good as you recover from your surgery.
ReplyDeleteThank you Cecilia. Thankfully I am feeling better each day and trying to do a little more as I can without overdoing it. I am enjoying the flowers now that we are getting more rain. It had been so dry for so long everything was drying up and turning brown. Now it looks lush and green again! Praise the Lord!
DeleteGorgeous photos, and so much to be thankful for! Every day, I write down seven things in my gratitude journal for which I am grateful. Never fails to brighten my day.
ReplyDeleteTake good care of yourself as you heal, Pamela!
It is such a wonderful habit to be in...counting our blessings and naming them...it helps us to see just how blessed we really are, even in the midst of trials and tribulations...God always shows us His kindness and mercies. Thank you for popping in!!
DeleteThey are certainly moody looking skies you have there but if they bring welcome rains all is well. Your flowers are so pretty and colourful, a real delight to see. I'm pleased you are healing up well, take it easy and look after yourself.
ReplyDeleteDiana
I have heard about all the rain Florida has gotten, I'm thankful it wasn't destructive, and that it has been productive, bringing out all kinds of flowers to bloom! A nice drive you had along Lake Kerr! I didn't realize you had surgery, and I'm so sorry to hear about it, but thankful you are on the mend! Having a sweet and precious husband to take care of you is such a blessing indeed :) It is always a day to be thankful, but I enjoyed your verses and reminders about just how blessed we are and to praise Him! Hugs to you today :)
ReplyDeletePam, You're correct, we all have so much to be thankful for, if we have eyes to see and a mind to grasp it. The Lord has blessed us with so much each and every day. The photos you shared really brought to life your thankful list.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what rain does to the whole of life during those times of drought (I remember how bad things looked around here during those drought times, for example 1988). Timely rain is something to be thankful for.
Glad to hear you're continuing to recover.
Blessings!
