Fall On My Front Porch...with a Surprise Visitor

No, please DON'T FALL on my front porch!  Just come enjoy FALL, as in AUTUMN, on my front porch!

Okay, now that I've got your attention...what I am trying to say is, Fall has arrived on my front porch...please come enjoy it with me!  There, does that make more sense?

As most of you are aware, I live in Florida...and fall isn't quite the same here in Florida as it is for you folks to our north.  However, that doesn't mean that we don't enjoy fall just as much as you do! Maybe in different ways...but we still enjoy fall...and actually, for us, our fall-like weather stays around a lot longer than it does for most of you!  When you are shoveling snow and scraping ice off your windshields, we are still enjoying the crisp, cool, invigorating days of fall weather!  Our "fall" type weather may still be here in January and February, but we will call it winter like everyone else...and pretend we are suffering when the temps dip down below 40 just so you won't feel too bad.  Ha ha!  Okay, enough gloating...and back to Fall on my front porch.

Here are a few pictures I took a few minutes ago.  The air is a delightful 50 something, the sun is shining brightly, and not a cloud in the sky.  Perfect day for sitting on the front porch.  However, we'd better do it early, because it is predicted to hit 82 degrees today...which is still pretty doggone wonderful!  So come on up on the porch with me...

I am so pleased that the mums are blooming so brightly.  But with this dry weather I have to water them every day or they wilt...

Looking back out to the front yard...yes, we live in the forest...and the soil here is mostly sand...so that is what that white stuff is...no, it isn't snow.
Come on inside with me and we'll get a cup of tea...
And now that you are inside, "Welcome to Our Neck of the Woods...Where life is good...fresh air, star gazing, and quiet spaces"....

Why don't you come in and sit a spell...actually let's go back out on the porch, where it is so perfect to sit and watch nature...

Oh wait!  I interrupt this blissful moment to bring you a news flash!  Woody Woodpecker (Pileated Woodpecker) just came knocking on my front porch right as we were getting comfortable...I kid you not...just this very minute, look who showed up...pecking away at my porch posts...not a good thing...even though he is beautiful to look at...we will have to do something or my porch may become one big pile of sawdust and woodpecker holes...

Even though that is treated lumber...this woodpecker seems to think it is fair game...so, what to do?  If anyone has any great ideas, please let us know.  In the meantime, enjoy the view...but someone please help me figure this out quick!!

Okay, that's all for now, folks...gotta run check in my library books before I get a fine for overdue books...

See y'all later!  I hope you enjoyed "Fall On My Front Porch".  It actually became a lot more exciting than I even planned for!!!! This was NOT a staged event, trust me!

    1. Thank you Sylvia. Yes, I guess he was, but I'm not going to let him peck away at my porch. I waited long enough so I could get some good pictures, and then I had to shoo him away! I think my next project will be putting some kind of sealant/stain on the posts to hopefully keep him away.

  3. Fall on Pamela's Florida front porch! Lovely. Your porch looks so inviting. We've had lovely weather lately to enjoy it. Years ago when I lived in a mobile home with vinyl "wood appearing" siding, we had a red headed woodpecker that would come and peck. So silly. Have a great day.

    1. Oh, hasn't it been delightful this week? I am SO enjoying this weather while it lasts! Even though I enjoyed seeing Mr. Woodpecker, I'm not happy about him pecking on my porch posts. Gotta do something to protect them...So, my next project will be probably putting sealant/stain on the porch posts....
Never a dull moment! Thanks for stopping by. Wish you really would!

  4. Your front porch looks very "fally" (that isn't a word...I know!). I was looking at some pots of mums the other day, thinking I should get one to put by our front door. That woodpecker is sure a beauty! I have no advice on keeping him from chopping away at your porch post though. Good luck! I love Fall in Florida!!

    1. Thank you Terri! Yes, I think "fally" is a good word! That's what we're doing now..."fally" things. LOL. Yes, get some mums...they brighten your world! I'm not sure what to do about the woodpecker either...probably need to stain and seal our porch posts, which should have been done anyway.

  5. Oh, Pamela, my husband would be so jealous of your marvelous photos of the usually elusive and shy Pileated! Your shots are glorious!
And yes, I'd love to set a spell on your inviting front porch. Love the decorations!
    Blessings!

    1. I understand how your husband feels. I often follow the Pileated Woodpecker around from tree to tree, trying to get it to stay still long enough for me to get a decent picture, and then today, for it to show up on my front porch just in time for a real photo shoot...what a surprise! However, I can't let that happen again, or we won't have a porch left! I would love for you to come join me on the porch. We'd have a great time chatting and getting acquainted. Let me know when you are coming and I'll put the kettle on for tea!!

  6. Well my goodness, we have pileated woodpeckers up here in Idaho, although the ones I have seen are fat and pudgy, lol! Can't imagine why he would be trying to eat treated wood either? That is a strange thing. I enjoyed your pictures of him, and your lovely fall porch, and a delightful chat inside with you would be just wonderful, or out on your porch! So happy to have met you, enjoyed the taste of fall in Florida :)

    1. Well, when things get too wild and crazy and cold up in Idaho, come on down and we could probably still sit on my porch! T'would be delightful! As far as the woodpecker goes, I think he can smell the carpenter bees that have done some nesting up in the beams of the porch this past summer...they are another wood boring pest we have to figure out what to do with...always something challenging when you live in the woods!

  7. Thank you for sharing your porch with your blogger friends! Always refreshing to sit and chat on the porch! Or nap...I have a large enclosed/screen front porch with a full size couch that I enjoy regularly in spring and fall here in North Florida.

  8. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely porch and front steps with us Pamela. I love the beautiful mums. Yes you are right that the autumn season lasts longer for you. Here in late autumn today, we had a surprise snow fall of 2 inches. Way too early for me as I'm not a lover of that white stuff. The Pileated Woodpecker is a beautiful bird. Great photos. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed weekend.
