Time to Focus

I've been debating on my "One Word" for 2015 for several days.  Every time I drive into our little village I pass this sign (seen above) at the community park.  And every time it hits me between the eyes.  At first it seemed to be a little "out of focus"...I had to fine tune it a bit, zoom in my lens and adjust the settings of my mind to bring it in a little clearer.  Could this be the message God was sending me?

Then I read from the book Jesus Calling by Sarah Young on January 1:

"Come to Me with a teachable spirit, eager to be changed.  A close walk with Me is a life of continual newness.  Do not cling to the old ways as you step into a new year.  Instead, seek My Face with an open mind, knowing that your journey with Me involves being transformed by the renewing of your mind. As you focus your thoughts on Me, be aware that I am fully attentive to you..."

Okay, that got my attention, and then again on January 2nd:

"Relax in My healing Presence.  As you spend time with Me, your thoughts tend to jump ahead to today's plans and problems. (How did you know, Lord?)  Bring your mind back to Me for refreshment and renewal.  Let the Light of My Presence soak into you as you focus  your thoughts on Me. Thus I equip you to face whatever the day brings.  This sacrifice of time pleases Me and strengthens you...."
(Strengthens...there's my One Word for last year...)

I don't recall seeing the word focus in the Bible, but I have a feeling if I study into it a little deeper, I will be able to find many references to focusing my attention on God and what He is wanting to show and teach me in this new year.

Here's one...

"Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!
Remember His marvelous works which He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth..."
Psalm 105:4-5

And here's one of my favorite verses to quote:

"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us,
and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
LOOKING UNTO JESUS, the Author and Finisher of our faith,
Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the
Throne of God."
Hebrews 12:1-2

Yes, I believe God has been directing my thoughts to focus my attention on His face...or, yes, I guess you could say "refocus"...get things put back into perspective, zoom in on what is most important, see things more clearly through the eyes of Christ...the "Author and Finisher" of my faith. I cannot think of any better site upon Whom to set my sight.

So, how about you? Are you ready get your life back in focus?  There is no better time than the present to clean off our lenses and get our eyes and hearts tuned in to "Seek the Lord and His strength, to Seek His Face evermore!"

Yes, it is time to "Re-Focus!"  FOCUS  IS MY NEW ONE WORD FOR 2015! By the end of the year I hope to be seeing quite clearly.  Come join me as we zoom in on this new adventure into the glorious Face of our Lord and Savior and His marvelous plans for our lives in this new year.

  2. Great choice of a word that God guided you to. Philippians 4:8 is about focus too, as it reminds us to think on "whatsoever things are noble, whatsoever things are good ... think on these things." Happy 2015.

    1. Ah yes, Terra! I have that particular verse on a little plaque on my desk where I am sitting right now! It is there to remind me to "think about such things"...or to "FOCUS" on those things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable...praiseworthy...yes...a great verse for the year! Thank you for your thoughts today. I pray that your New Year will be full of such wonderful thoughts as well.

  3. Great post Pamela, I have had this on my mind now for days. I believe God wants our Focus to be on Him not on ourselves but to love and show His love as well, to focus on Spiritual things not earthly things.
    Have Blessed New Year!

    1. Yes, I believe this is a message for ALL of us in this new year....and especially for our nation...to focus our attention on GOD before it is too late. I am looking forward to all that God is going to show us throughout the year. I'm glad you are going with me on this journey!

  4. A very good study on the word you have chosen. My word for 2015 is--"Strength" I need God's strength to say on this gluten-free diet. I sat in my computer chair a few days after I discovered I needed to be on this diet and probably will be for the rest of my life. Blessings to you and yours.
