Now, here is my entry for today. This was originally written exactly four years ago, when we were getting ready to move into our current home. We've been through a lot of changes since this was written, but I can assure you that we are still "People Who Need People"...and we are the "
"Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance. In Your name they rejoice all day long, and in Your righteousness they are exalted. for You are the glory of their strength, and in Your favor our horn is exalted." Psalm 89: 15-17
Barbra Streisand singing "People" Remember this song? Click on the link to take a step back in time...and then please come back and finish reading this...
Last night I was having a time of reflecting over the past few weeks' activities, and I suddenly became overwhelmed with joy at what the Lord was doing in our lives. Although you may think this is crazy, I was in the shower cleaning up from a long day of painting and cleaning at our soon to be new home...and as I thought about all the people in our lives who have been bending over backwards to help us get ready for this big move, and for those people who actually have made it possible for us to even consider such a move, I suddenly broke out into singing "People Who Need People are the luckiest people in the world..." Barbra Streisand style... No, I don't proclaim to be as good of a singer as Barbra Streisand, and I am certain my family members sitting in the other room trying to watch TV will agree to that, especially when I sang it over and over and over again, louder and louder...mostly the same words over and over because I couldn't remember all the verses...but it was a celebration of joy...I was actually thanking the Lord for bringing people into our lives...other "people who need people" just like us...and I realized what that song was really all about. "People who need people are the luckiest people in the world", (although I would probably say they are the most blessed people in the world since I don't really believe in the word "luck").
There is something wonderful about needing other people...and other people needing you as well...and when God brings those people together to encourage one another and actually help out when someone is in need, both parties benefit from the united effort. The people who needed the people are blessed, and the people who responded to help are also blessed. I really think that's what God intended for His people to do...need each other, and then do something to help each other.
Our new house is actually a fulfillment of a life-long dream...perhaps in a small way, but also in a beautiful way. http://pamelasopenwindow.blogspot.com/2011/02/some-yearnings-of-my-soul.html This reference is a link to a previous post that I shared with you last year about "my dream home". That particular post was kind of skimming the surface of the whole dream of the kind of home I wanted to have someday...and although this particular new home does not quite meet all of those specifications, I have begun to realize that God is in fact answering my prayers. He is creating a "home that is a haven for people who need to feel ‘at home’", just like I requested. The people He has already brought into our midst who are right there helping us get the house ready to move into are exactly that..."people who need to feel at home", and we are more than happy to welcome them into our home. I guess the realization of this is why I was just so elated that I had to break out into singing last night!
"Oh sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth. sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods."..."Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples, Give to the Lord glory and strength. Give to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come into His courts. Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!"Psalm 96:1-4, 7-9
Thank you Lord, for bringing "people who need people" into our lives, because we too, are a needy people, and we consider ourselves very lucky (BLESSED) indeed. I can't wait to meet all the new people You are going to send our way. Thank you, Jesus, for answering our prayers. Amen.
This is how our home looks now, 4 years later! (picture taken in the summer when the sycamore trees where in full foliage) |
My heart is so happy for you and your new adventure Pam! A Camp in the Woods House? How wondrous! Rejoicing with you.
ReplyDeleteI went back and read your earlier desire and it is fun to see God answering your prayer. Reminded me of a fantasy home I wrote about a year ago. Maybe its time to hold it up before the Father huh?
You inspired me and I just posted my own "Dream Home", thanks Pamela!
ReplyDeleteDear RCL: I love your "Dream Home" post...I think you and I are running in the same vein of God's blood. Not sure what that means, except that we think a lot alike at the same time, and I believe it is of God. He wants us to have good dreams and hopes and desires...and if we open our hearts and eyes, we may see that He is fulfilling our heart's desires right before our eyes. We just sometimes have to look little deeper than the surface. He also wants us to be encouragers of other people's dreams, and that is what our blogs are all about. This is ministry, pure and simple. Love in Christ, dear sister.
ReplyDeletePam: I love the picture of your house with the sycamore trees in full bloom. It takes time to make the improvements to our homes. When the weather gets stable (warmer) we have a project or two that we will be doing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Cecilia. I know you are anxious to get up and get moving again after being laid up for a spell. But again, one step at a time. I hope we will all continue to stay in touch through our blogs. I've so enjoyed getting to know you and look forward to many more times of sharing our faith together.
DeleteI love that last photo of your home with the sheltering sycamore trees. I understand that it is time for change in blogland.
ReplyDeleteThank you Terra. I am looking forward to the "sheltering sycamore trees" to get their leaves back soon! (That will mean summer is near!) Yes, the time has come for our Random Journal Day to end, but not our friendship. We need to continue to look out for each other and cheer each other on! Thank you for being a "cheerleader" here! Blessings to you, my friend.
DeleteLove how a home can look so transformed with the changing seasons...so glad to meet you at Dawn's and look forward to seeing where the path leads us! Blessings-Kel
ReplyDeleteThank you Kel. Yes, we will all just have to be more diligent to watch for each other's blogs and continue to carry on our friendship regardless! Thank you for being a friend no matter what the changing seasons! Blessings to you.
DeleteYou can bet we will never lose contact even without RJD Pam! Your friendship has meant a great deal to me and it is a forever one for sure!
ReplyDeleteOh Susie! I hope when you reach "fame and fortune" as a best selling author you will remember me! LOL. I truly do hope you will become a best selling author! Your book should be in the hands of everyone! Yes, I know we will always be friends because God brought us together for a purpose. We are "people who need people...and we ARE the luckiest (Most Blessed) people in the world!"
DeletePam, what an inspiring post! I'm so thankful for the people in my life who are willing to help with a variety of things--expecting nothing in return. It's also a joy to be able to help others in a way that I can. The blogging world has blessed me with new friends, like you. We do need each other, going it alone is no way to live life!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Amen! I have appreciated getting to know you in the past couple of months...you are a blessing to me. I love your last name "Jolly"...because it always makes me smile when I see it. Not just your name, but to see your smiling face attached as well is what really makes me smile. Thank you for being a special person in my life.
DeleteYou and Susie have especially been gracious to me from my early days of blogging. I look forward to a Pajama Party in Texas or wherever we have it as God allows ...I can't wait to hug you both in person. Pamela, thanks for your faithful presence through all of your own personal disappointments and challenges. You are a blessing and such a testimony of His grace in my life through our friendship...Hugs.
ReplyDeleteI do hope and pray that day will come soon. We need that big group hug. But until then we will keep hugging each other here and there and wherever we can connect. You are a blessing to me personally, and I am richer for knowing you. (not in my pocketbook, but in my heart! LOL)
