Wednesday Medley: A Pie-Full Blog

Here is a medley of questions you may choose to answer on your Wednesday blog.  There aren't any rules and there is no obligation. Link up if you want to.  I'm doing this to fill my Wednesday and if you are interested, then I invite you to join in!!  It might be fun!!

I decided to play along this week for the first time. So here goes. 

Questions for the Wednesday Medley...

NATIONAL PIE DAY

National Pie Day is celebrated annually on January 23rd. (Not to be confused with March 14 which is PI π Day.) 

National Pie Day was created simply to celebrate the pie.  It is a day for all to bake or cook their favorite pies.  Even more importantly, it is a day set aside for all to enjoy eating pies!

The first pies appeared around 9500 BC in the Egyptian Neolithic period or New Stone Age.

1.  Okay, fess up.  Tell us your top three favorite pies, please.  Will you have some pie today?

My top three favorite pies would be: Apple, Cherry, Peach, Pumpkin, Blueberry, Coconut Cream Pie (but only with my mother's recipe).  I won't be having pie today, because I just now this morning found out this was National Pie Day. But who knows what might happen before the day is over!  My mother was the official pie baker for the family, and she always baked pies for any occasion. People in town even paid her to bake pies for their holidays! Her claim to fame was her Coconut Cream Pie, but apple was probably next.  She always baked an apple pie for my birthday in September, (at my request), and now that she is in heaven my sister Doris has that honor (if she has time. If not, Costco apple pies are pretty good).  Here is a link to a blog I wrote on "The Pie Legacy" several years ago.

2.  While we are talking about food... are you a picky eater or are you ready to try almost any new food?  What is the worst thing you have ever eaten?  

I am not a picky eater, but I don't eat oysters or things like calimari (squid!), and that was probably the worst thing I've ever eaten by mistake...

3.  Baking could be considered an art as could cooking.  How do you define art?

To me art can be so many things...my daddy was an artist who could draw and paint. I used to be able to draw, but never learned to paint.  God is the Master Artist...

4.  Tell us a really stupid joke that made you laugh, please. There are just too many to include here...

5.  January 23rd is also National Handwriting Day. Do you have nice handwriting? Did cursive writing come naturally or did you practice in those double-lined practice books until your fingers hurt?

I am a lefty, and so I'm sure my teachers had a fun time trying to teach me to write in cursive, however, I actually used to have very excellent handwriting, especially for a lefty. Nowadays it is hard to write. Computer use has ruined my ability to write by hand. My brain wants to go faster than my fingers can keep up, and arthritis makes it uncomfortable.  

6.  Tell us something random about your week.

We went to Walmart yesterday, and discovered this beautiful red classic car parked in the parking lot.  I couldn't resist taking pictures. I love classic cars!! 

It runs in the family. My brother Clifford in North Carolina has restored several old cars in his lifetime.  Here is the latest one he is working on:

 That is my brother's bald head sticking out up there...He will probably not appreciate me showing that, but it's the only picture I got of him with the car! LOL.  Sorry, Cliff.  Love you.  (these pictures were taken last July when we went to his house for a family reunion)

Don't you just love this Pontiac Chieftan hood ornament?  I hope we get to see the car when he has finished restoring it.
