Tuesday 4~ Lights

 Lights

Welcome to another Tuesday 4 by Toni Taddeo.

Let's talk about light, okay? You light up my life.. shine a light in the darkness, Miller Light. All kinds of light but how about at home?

1. Are you afraid of the dark? Is night or day your favorite time?
No, I am not afraid of the dark.  I don't like to stumble around in it, however. We keep flashlights handy beside our beds just in case we have to get up and check something.  I definitely prefer daytime so I can see where I am going and all the beauty of everything around me.

2. Do you have night lights in your home?
Yes. We have night lights in our bathrooms, kitchen, hallways and laundry room. Would you like to see them?  Here are some of my favorite night lights. Some are not used all the time, but just when we have company or I want to show them off to you. Mostly we use the kind that are photosensitive, which means they automatically come on in the dark without me having to switch them on. I use those primarily in the bathrooms and hallways.
This is the auto night light in my bathroom.

This little teapot night light, which was a gift from my sister years ago, is in the kitchen above the coffee and tea  "bar".

Here's a close up of the night light. Isn't it sweet?

This little night light shows two bears cooking marshmallows over a campfire. This was a gift from a friend when we lived in our "Camp of Woods House" in Salt Springs, where we had bears come to visit regularly. I never saw them do this, however. LOL.
Here's how it looks lit up in the dark room...really cute. And the light flickers like a fire.

And here's another little lamp with a bear roasting a marshmallow over a campfire. This was a gift from my sister in law Peggy when we lived in that house where the bears came calling. This is in the guest room.

Here's a close up of the night light...and yes, the light flickers like a flame.

I used to call our guest room at that house the "Bear Crossing Bed & Breakfast", so these items were very fitting.

Here's another night light that is also in the guest room...a sweet little church with a magnolia blossom on it. That's probably more in keeping with the theme of the guest room nowadays, since we no longer live in the woods among the bears. (But I still miss them.)

And last but not least is this beautiful victorian lamp, which I purchased from a dear 92 year old lady  (from our church) who was moving away to live with her son and daughter in law.   She told me that she always used this lamp as a night light in her living room.  As you can see, you can light up each section of the lamp by themselves, or light up the whole lamp:

I love this lamp. I really don't use it as a night light, however. I'm a little leery of leaving it turned on all night while we are sleeping.

3. How low do you set your air conditioning? Do you adjust it through the day?
Our central AC has an automatic thermostat. It actually is set so that it can go from AC to Heat if the temperature dips low enough or rises high enough.  We keep it set for 76 for the AC, and 69 for the heat. During the winter months here where we live in Florida, it can switch back and forth throughout the day quite often, as it is not unusual to need heat all night and in the early morning, but need the AC by afternoon.  I'm glad it is automatic and we don't have to keep getting up to switch one or the other on or off.  Update: I was writing that last night, when it was still quite warm and the AC was on. I woke up this morning to put the  finishing touches on this post, and I heard the heat kick on because it dipped down to about 50 degrees last night outside and the house felt chilly inside. So I am thankful the thermostat is set on automatic. Our temps will be back up to 82 today, so I'm sure the AC will be back on.  Also, we have been in the midst of some serious fires in the region around us, and the smoke is quite heavy outside, making it impossible to open windows.  Please keep praying for rain!

4. Do you keep any outdoor or indoor lights on all night?
As far as indoor lights, I've already shown you the night lights...and really the only ones that are on all night are the automatic ones in the bathrooms and halls, and the little teapot one in the kitchen. All the others are only as needed or as I said before, to show them off for company. LOL.

However, outdoor lights is another story altogether, and that is my hubby's domain.   We do have motion detector lights at our front door and back door, so they will come on automatically at night when there is motion near the doors. We don't keep them on all night otherwise.  BUT, we have what seems like hundreds of little solar yard lights all around our house and mostly in the front yard.  (Not really hundreds, but it looks like an airport runway out there at night!) I will have to wait for it to get dark to take a picture to show you.  That is my hubby's project...he checks those lights every night to see if they are shining, and when any one of them finally dies for good, we replace it right away with another from either the Dollar General or Walmart. (Because they are cheaper there!) He loves his little yard lights.  However, because they are solar, they usually don't stay lit up all night long.

Here you go:

The nice thing about all these little solar lights is that they don't use any electricity! And I don't have to worry about turning them on and off!

How many of you remember singing this little song...or teaching it to your children?  "This Little Light of Mine, I'm going to let it shine"...  There are other tunes  and versions, but this is the one I remember most.  So cute...

Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

  1. I like that old song, This Little Light of Mine. We used to sing it so often when I was a child. I also love all your night lights. You have so many nice ones. It looks like I have similar solar lights outside as well and I too get them from the Dollarama. It's a Canadian version of Dollar Tree and more expensive than the American dollar stores though I know prices have gone up there too.

  2. I love This little light of mine! Now it's in my head and that's a good thing.
I like your night lights. Terri D had some nice plug in ones that turned on automatically, so when we got home, we ordered some like hers.
Your home looks very cozy at night.

  3. Good morning!! All of your night lights are soooo cute!! I was just commenting on Linda's post, that my thoughts are that you can never have too many lights. I love all of the outdoor lights and even inside our home, I have those tiny White Christmas lights shining in several places throughout the house. It's never completely dark in the house. Unless the power goes out...🤣 I saw some solar light (Balls) that I would love to have that float in the pool, but they were a bit too expensive so I did not get them. Your outdoors looks great all lit up...I know this makes for a very relaxing evening when you sit out on the porch. We have rain again today...would love to send some your way. Blessings to you and your family...

  4. You have the most diverse night light collection I've ever seen, Pamela. Wow! Who knew night lights could come in so many fashions. Yes, we have night lights (not fancy), and outdoor lights with sensors. Tell John I love his little solar lamps, too. Blessings!

  5. I'm smiling, can you believe I still sing that song? Just one of those tunes that will pop into my head sometimes. You have the cutest night lights, I loved them all!!!

  6. Well Yes, this post is both De-Lightful and En-lightening. I love the way you answered and showed us all of your cute night lights, especially the teapot and the bears toasting marshmallows. Too cute.
We have a nightlight in each of our bathrooms that look about the same as yours. On in the dark ...off in the light. We do have a light in our kitchen nook that just gives a faint glow to the family room and helps us get around if needs be. We used to have solar lights in our backyard but they all finally died and we never bothered to get new ones.
I love the song you mentioned. I used to sing it for and sometimes with Lynne when I was caregiving her. The old children's songs helped trigger memories and she could often remember the words.
    Great post today

  7. I enjoyed seeing all of your lights around the house and yard too. I have a night light in the guest bathroom that I turn on when someone is staying overnight with us. There is also a set of rope lights above a couple of kitchen cabinets that were here when we moved in. I probably won't replace them when they burn out though. Dennis has put lights under the kitchen cabinets so we have better lighting when cooking but we turn them off at night because we light a dark bedroom and the kitchen is right outside our door.
We did have a lot more nightlights around the house when the kids were growing up. And I love that wonderful children's song. I still sing it sometimes.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  8. Enjoyed your post so much, dear Pamela! I agree about the nightlights and darkness, I love the light but don't mind the darkness as long has I have a little light. Your nightlights are so beautiful, and I love each one you shared, especially the lamp! I taught This Little Light of Mine to my children, and taught it in Sunday School, such a fun song to sing! I will be teaching it to my granddaughters too! I love solar lights, and have them all out in our yard. My garden is full of them! They make the night so lovely and enjoyable. Many blessings to you dear friend!
