Tuesday 4: "Home Sweet Home"

Home Sweet Home

Welcome! It's time again for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.

How would it be if we talk about some things related to home?

1. What styles of décor do you like? Mid Century? Colonial? Contemporary?
Our home is a combination of family "heirlooms", most of which were handed down from our parents and/or grandparents.  Nothing is particularly valuable, except for its sentimental value. I've written about our furnishings before in places too numerous to list here, so I will just share one picture I took this week and explain. Well, you know me better than that. When have I ever been able to share "just one picture"? LOL.

This is our sofa. It is over 30 years old, and actually is still in great condition, except the original fabric underneath is a blue, taupe, and mauve flowered upholstery.  After so many years I got tired of it and decided to get a slipcover for it.

During the winter months I had put this buffalo plain flannel comforter over it to make it more wintry and cozy.

And now, I decided it was time for something more spring-like for a change:

This tapestry throw was something I had given my Mother years ago, because it had a pleasant farm scene on it, and she always loved the farm  and longed to be back living on one.  There's a cow on the top of it you can't see in this picture.
There, now you can see it:

And a sleepy cat taking a catnap beside the rocking chair on the porch:

I was happy I could reclaim this for my own when we were cleaning out my parents' home after they both had passed away.  When I look at this now I think of them both and how wonderful they were...and how comfortable their home was....and that's how I want my home to be...very comfortable for anyone who comes to visit.

2. What makes your bedroom comfortable?
Our bed and just the general coziness of it...and being with the one I love...

3 What do you think makes a home comfortable and welcoming?
The people who live there.  Warm hospitality...love and people who truly care...

It really has nothing to do with furniture or things. It's all about the love that is shared in that home that makes one feel comfortable and welcome.

4. Do you share your home with pets? Would you tell us about them please?
We don't have any pets of our own, but we do love our grandpuppies, Sugar and Spice:
We are always happy when they come to visit. They are such sweet little girls.

Right now we are on Baby Bluebird alert.

This one is getting up his courage to stick his head out further and further from the nest...

Daddy was enticing him with a juicy bug, trying to encourage him to fly up and get it.

But as of this moment he has not "flown the coop".  I will keep you posted.

  2. Your home is so very inviting, Pamela, but it's the love shared in that house that makes it feel like a welcoming home. Thanks for the bluebird update!

  4. Loved reading your answers Pam. LOVE that bed too! We don't have any pets either but I do have granddogs. There is only one of them though that I will let stay with me if needed. He is an old dog in dog years but so laid back. Feed him and take him to the bathroom once in a while and he's good to go! My kind of animal. Low maintenance. Ha! Loving the bluebird! We don't see them often here but my mercy we sure do see lots of red birds. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  9. You do have a lovely home. Such good taste. Our home is Affordable Eclectic with heirlooms thrown in for good measure. I'm good with it as long as it's not cluttered. I can't stand clutter of anything.
    Love & Prayers xx

  10. You have a cozy and inviting home. I am surprised to see the youngster already peeking out so cheekily. It won't be long before the leaving happens.

  11. I sure enjoyed seeing the photos of your cozy home and hearing about the farm throw. The best homes are the ones with memories and love, not perfectly matched decorations. At least that's my opinion.
I answered the Tuesday Four on Mary's blog in the comments if you're interested.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  12. I enjoyed seeing your sofa through the different seasons. I love a comfortable home and yours is warm an inviting.

  13. I love the way in which you use a slipcover and accessories to transform the look of your sofa. Like having a new piece of furniture each season -- for pennies. (Yep, if I sound envious, it's because I wish I'd thought of that. lol) So sweet how you make Sugar and Spice feel welcome. My girlfriend often cares for her sister's pup and I remarked -- it's like a pet timeshare. All of the fun with none of the responsibility! Lifting my prayers for that baby bird's first solo flight!

  14. I love the way you change the couch cover for the seasons. It really makes a difference for each season. Won't be long until the baby birds will venture out, looking forward to seeing that!!

  15. I like your decor - my home is also a menagerie (not wild animals) of old things I have collected or have been passed down to me. ON the most part I don't keep them out year round - I rotate them so that it is not too much.
    Your bird pictures are precious.

  16. You have a beautiful home, and I've been in it at least twice (two different locations). It is very comfortable, warm and welcoming. And some really good food comes out of your kitchen, too! Of course, it's the PEOPLE who really make a place warm and welcoming, and you and John do that very well.

So sorry -- I think Blogger must have ate the comment I left earlier today.

  18. I so wish I had at least a few more things from my parents...or from my husband's family. We have very little. But it would be wonderful to include those things throughout my home! They make your home look cozy and lovely!

  19. Sometimes that older furniture holds up the best. I enjoyed your answers. I just remembered one day an Amazon guy came to our house to deliver a package and asked me if the deer in the front yard were mine? Haha!
