This will be a departure from my usual Advent posts these past couple of weeks. Today is
Friday Foto Friends (Click HERE for link to other friends), where we post our favorite pictures of the week or from wherever we've been lately. So, these are a few of my favorite nature posts from the past week. If you are one of my Facebook friends you may have already seen some of these photos...so "bear" with me...(no pun intended...or maybe it was intended...read on)
Some things are not always what they seem...
At first I thought this big green spider was protecting her catch in her very intricate web...but on closer look I discovered that the huge sack behind the spider is actually a sack of baby spiders!!! Yikes! I almost walked right into this very disturbing web!!! Shew! That was a close one!!!
NEXT:
As I walked down the road I noticed that there were two sets of footprints in the sand...
kind of reminiscent of the poem about the Footprints....where the Lord was walking with the man...
Well, in THIS case, it would appear that something was walking with the man...but it definitely wasn't the Lord! (Or perhaps the Lord was there...carrying the man...)
Look closely...you will see that on the left are the footprints of a BEAR, and on the right
are the footprints of a human...Hmmmm....were they walking together??
Well....after seeing this fella outside my kitchen window later, I can assure you, it wasn't ME walking next to that bear!
Please don't fear, I was definitely inside my house when I had
this close encounter...safe and sound behind concrete block walls. When the bear saw me, he took off into the woods quite rapidly: (hence the blurriness of this photo)
Okay, enough disturbing photos. Here are a couple of cute ones to finish off the day:
This cute little squirrel was nosing around the fountain in our memorial garden, when he had a close encounter with the resident "Froggy" statue. Then he jumped on the bench and started moving forward...and had a close encounter with ME:
Hello! Or perhaps it is time for me to say "Good-Bye"....until next week!
I hope you have enjoyed these close encounters and little nature break from whatever busyness you are doing right now...most likely Christmas shopping, decorating, baking, working, all the "stuff" that goes along with the Merry Christmas season. Whatever you do, take time to enjoy the close encounters with God's world around you! There's always something (or someone!) out there to take your breath away, if you just take a moment to notice!
Have a blessed and happy week!
Wow! Pamela, You take some amazing photos of Nature and the animal kingdom. You are an excellent photographer. Thanks for sharing them with us and thank you so much for your prayers and well wishes. Have a day of blessings my friend.
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you Toni! I just feel so blessed to live where I have this opportunity to see so many interesting things! But, YOU have SNOW! Now that's interesting too! I love to see the snow, especially from inside a warm house! Take care and I hope your back is feeling better today.
DeletePam, I love the pictures of nature you're able to capture. Thank you for sharing them!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Thank you Kim. I am so glad you stopped by...and that you enjoyed this little nature break! Sometimes we just need to see how the rest of God's world lives! Have a joyous and blessed day, my friend!
DeleteIndeed I did enjoy these photos from 'this' side of my computer (both the spiders and the bear). The two sets of footsteps is quite mysterious.
ReplyDeleteHi Gayle! I believe you are a new visitor to my "wild kingdom"! Thank you for stopping by. I am so glad you enjoyed these little views into God's "Wild Kingdom". Actually, I cannot lie, the bear footprints were there first. I actually walked right by the footprints without noticing them at first, and then looked back and saw them as the sun shown on them. So I tiptoed back around to get a picture of the bear prints, and then saw that my own shoe prints were also in the picture. But I like the mystery part about it too...makes for a good story...
DeleteThe spider picture is the creepiest thing I've seen all day! ick! I'm glad too that you didn't walk into it! I might not ever see you again if you did! lol :))
ReplyDeleteHa ha! That is true!!! I did actually go back later and lop off that part of the branch as this is on the little cedar tree growing in our front yard by the road. I was afraid it was one of those big webs that would take over the tree. I made sure to lop it off beneath the web, and threw mama spider and all her babies into the woods together. I'm sure she can rescue them. They were starting to crawl out of the web at that point...hundreds of tiny spiders...yikes!!
DeleteThe spider did me in. My greatest fear! Phobia? Probably. The bear was beautiful. We haven't seen one in a few months. We guess they have found their winter homes by now. I love the squirrel. They are very entertaining to watch.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the spider photo, but you have to admit, she was a pretty green spider! Where do you live that you have bears? Ours, here in Florida, are still finding their way to their dens for winter...and they really don't hibernate here...just take naps for a while I think! Ha! Thank you for stopping by. I hope you'll come again someday!
DeleteI love you little squirrel. Here the squirrels have an other color (redbrown). Yours is so special for me. Thanks for sharing. Brrr, spiders makes me afraid. This one I have never seen. No Christmas shopping or decorating. Reading and listening to beautiful music. xxx
ReplyDeleteScary web for sure.
ReplyDeleteI remember walking along the shore of a river and seeing those pigeon toed foot prints of a big old bear and feeling shivers up my spine because I didn't know how old they were!
I like squirrels better, they are much safer!
Wonderful photos.
Oh.My.Gosh. That spider! I definitely shuddered when I read about the baby spiders!
ReplyDeleteYour photo talent is amazing. I for one would never have ventured close enough to the spider to get that good photo. And even though you were inside with the bear pic was taken, you did a great job of capturing the mean look in his eyes. Gave me the shudders.
ReplyDeleteYour bear photos are fascinating! Scary, but fascinating!! Love the squirrel too!
ReplyDeleteYikes...that spider is creepy! I really love all your nature photos...there's that squirrel again, he's so cute!
ReplyDeleteOh, mercy.....that spider! I'm glad you didn't walk into it. I don't even like looking at the picture. I agree, the squirrel pic is much better to look at. You live in such an awesome place, though. Are you ever scared to go on your walks? I'm thinking I'd be jittery at every little noise! Yes, I'm a scaredy cat! 😉
ReplyDeleteThank heavens for a zoom on your camera for you to get such wonderful shots! I'd say the scary thing would be to see two sets of footprints - one human and one bear and then suddenly to see only the bear ones! LOL Have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the squirrel photos! I am very partial to these amusing creatures, and you can see why here, Pam: www.gladetrilogy.wix.com/theglade
ReplyDeleteAnd that spider? That would be one too-close-for-comfort encounter for me.
Blessings!
Wow, I would sure prefer the cute squirrel for my close encounter!
