Tuesday 4~Ideals

Ideals

From our Hostess Annie: "Hi! Sorry this is late but I just got side tracked with a migraine on Sunday and Monday morning and forgot all about Tuesday 4.... but I hope it's better late than never....
Welcome to T oni's Tuesday 4... all about ideal situations."

1. What's your ideal road trip/vacation?
My "Ideal" road trip would be to travel the back roads through the country and small towns, with no specific time/destination so that we can stop when we want to stop and explore whatever looks interesting and eat at local cafe's and diners. Of course, we would be heading to an area of the country that we have always wanted to explore, but not in any particular hurry. Maybe parts of the northwest like the Dakotas, Montana and Wyoming, Idaho, etc., where we've never been before. Of course we would have to have unlimited funds to do this kind of trip, which we don't have, so that's why we've never done it and probably never will. But it's a nice idea. Otherwise, a trip to the mountains of north Georgia in the fall and staying in a cabin with our kids is also a lot of fun...and we are missing doing that this year, but decided we needed to take this year off for various reasons.

2. What is your ideal evening out?
LOL.  We are retired! We avoid going out in the evenings at all cost.  If we have to go out for dinner, we try to go by 4:00 and beat the crowds and get back home before it gets dark. Normally we try to go out for lunch and we like to eat at places that are more interesting than the normal humdrum.

3. What is your ideal way to handle criticism? Brush it off? Take it personally? Reflect on it?
I guess it depends on where it's coming from.  If it is someone whom I respect and trust...a true friend, then I will certainly give it proper attention and consideration. However, if it is a person on social media whom I do not really know or they do not really know me personally, I will consider whether or not the criticism is valid or if someone is just being petty or trying to make some kind of "statement".  In today's social media society, we often have to make decisions whether or not to accept someone's comments or to delete and block them. I've certainly had to do both, especially when it comes to politics and religion.

There are many scripture verses regarding criticism and discipline. These are just a few.

Proverbs 15:31-33
31 Whoever heeds life-giving correction
will be at home among the wise.
32 Those who disregard discipline despise themselves,
but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.
33 Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord,
and humility comes before honor.

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, ...

4. What is your ideal day off?
Well, now that I am retired, every day is supposedly a 'day off', except for the days we have doctor appointments and/or other kinds of business matters to tend to...grocery shopping, car repairs, house repairs/maintenance, church activities and responsibilities.  When we have a day with NO appointments on the calendar, we like to take a ride or go for a nice walk in a new location, and maybe go out to lunch someplace different. It's nice to meet with friends or family for lunch somewhere as well.   It's also lovely to have a day at home with nothing in particular to do so that I can read or bake or just go sit outside in the yard, weather permitting.

  1. Lunch out with friends and family is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and I think road trips in our own areas are just as exciting and lovely as going far away. Its nice to come home to your own bed at the end of a nice trip. I love stopping in local diners along the way. We did Sunday drives when I was a kid and stopped for lunch and then ice cream. I miss that a lot. Thanks for joining in. I sure wish more people wo uld.

  2. I think your ideal vacation sounds like my ideal vacation too.
Good thoughts on criticism too. Social media certainly has made things different in that aspect.

  3. I agree that social media has changed our lives in so many ways... good and bad. I loved "road trips" when I was a kid. My dad would load us up and off we would go on a Sunday afternoon, usually ending with an ice cream cone!! I've often dreamed of taking off and going cross-country with no schedule. Those days are gone, but it was always on my bucket list. I enjoyed your answers, my friend! xo

  4. I'm right there with you on criticism. Social media is often a shadowy place to me!
I can't remember the last time we enjoyed an evening out. My favorite is breakfast, then lunch -- not only are those the least expensive meals "out", that allows me a good guilt-free nap!
Your imaginary road trip so closely mirrors mine. Every now and then I think about doing that, but Tom's health right now precludes that. You never know! There's a former blogger I love who called their trip, "The last hurrah."

  5. I am just sad that you had a migraine for so long. I have never (Thank the good Lord) experienced one. I've had some terrible headaches, but from what I've heard migraines are the worst.

  7. Your ideal road trip sound wonderful, Pamela. As I've mentioned here before, because of health issues, we can't travel far anymore, but I so appreciate all the times we've been able to vacation in the mountains. Memories are almost as good as the vacation itself!

  8. Boy are you bringing back memories for me. Dave and I were known as the "Spur of the Moment " Guys. We would get a bee in our bonnet and off we would go .. maybe to the mountains, or down to Los Angeles or just bumble around San Francisco. So much fun.
We don't do that any more due to finances, a car that we can't trust to go very far and basically health concerns for Dave. He just can't sit for very long due to back issues. It truly is The New Normal for us. The adjustment is difficult but the Lord has blessed us with a wonderful family and a comfortable home. Its all good ... good but different ...
I do miss all the volunteering we used to do and the serving. We just physically can't do that any longer ...
But I will say it again ...
    We are Blessed !
    Sue
