Good Morning! Happy October! What is it about October that just makes us want to stop whatever we're doing and head outdoors, where hopefully the days are starting to get a little cooler and the leaves are starting to change into beautiful hues of orange, red and yellow...and we can't resist the temptation to have a cup of hot chocolate and sit around a campfire and roast some hot dogs and marshmallows and make s'mores with friends and family? That's how I feel when I turn the page of my calendars over to October, even if the temperatures really haven't fallen all that much yet, and here in Florida we really don't have so many beautiful leaves on the trees...but there's that certain feeling in the air (or at least in my mind) that makes me want to do all these things. At least I can dream along with Anne of Green Gables...
"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.
It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November, wouldn't it? "
So let's get on with the October calendars, shall we?
John Sloane's Country Seasons October painting, "Harvest Homestead"
I love how both of these two calendars are showing people riding in a horse-drawn buggy, enjoying a beautiful autumn day in the country. Wouldn't you love to be there with them? I would!
Thomas Kinkade's "Fall Outing".
I love the Susan Branch calendar for October...all in fun...
This reminds me of the only postcard I have saved from my maternal Grandma, sent to me for Halloween when I was just seven years old.
What an interesting teapot setting for the Teapot Calendar for October:
And I agree with what C.S. Lewis had to say here:
This is the description of that tea set, if you can read it...very unique!
However, THIS is more my style for tea time in October:
And speaking of autumn leaves and October beauty...I really don't have any of my own to show you, so I will share with you some pictures our "kids" sent us from their current trip to Minnesota for a family reunion for Rose's family:
This is Rose's current family of siblings (7 kids in all!) and their father. They have not all been together at "home" at the same time in a long time, and this was very special for them! I'm so happy Rose and Benton got to make this special trip.
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 NKJV
"16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace,
17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work."
On another note, I wanted to let you know that we have finally been getting some good rain this week...over two inches so far! There's still a long way to go before Still Waters Pond will be full again, but at least it's a start, so we are very thankful! And also thankful that storm that was in the Atlantic didn't come ashore, but at least it helped bring us some rain!! God is so good, and we are very thankful!
Okay, that's all folks for now! I know I've been a bit AWOL here lately...just been busy with "stuff" and haven't been able to sit down and read and write like I'd like. Hopefully things will get back to some kind of normal routine soon! Have a blessed October everyone!!
Happy October! I enjoy your calendars on the first day of the month.
ReplyDeleteBenton and Rose got some great photos. Hope they're having a good time.
Happy October, I knew these photos were not Florida Oct and glad to see them. wish I could feel some of their temps too. Today is bob's 89th birthday, he moved to Florida in 1970 when he was 34 and never left the state of Florida after that except to dart into Savannah GA a few times to visit my parents. I still remember and love the fall in Kentucky, this time of year and have not seen it since 1959. glad you got a little pond water and glad we did not get that storm and happy for your kids for their amazing trip
ReplyDeleteHappy October. Glad you finally had some rain.

I love that. I love October so much I could have 12 of them - meaning all year long.
I love the county - the colors - Halloween - apples - festivals - everything.
Glad you got some rain.
Happy for your kids trip too.
Happy October. I always love your calendar reveal. I can't decide my favorite which is probably why I would need multiples:) I do have multiples - what am I talking about. That was great that Rose got to be with all of her siblings. Much different setting than ours.
ReplyDeleteAs I changed my wall calendar to October this morning, I thought of you, Pamela. And right on time, you deliver with your blog post - LOL! All of them are beautiful and the tea pot picture is fascinating. I loved that Rose and Benton sent you photos of the family reunion they attended. Sure does look like fall there! And praise the Lord that you finally got some rain! Hope you get enough to refill your beautiful pond. Blessings!
ReplyDeletehappy October to you too.
ReplyDeleteLove your calendar pages for this month.
Happy to hear that you have gotten some rain. Every little bit counts.
It been threatening to rain for the last 3 days but always changes its mind.
Maybe Tomorrow ???
Minnesota photos from your "kids" are so lovely. Really Fall there. I especially like Rose among the corn stalks... too fun ...
Glad to see you blogging again. Sometimes one just needs a break to do Life Stuff ...

I have missed you and am glad it is just 'busy-ness' that is keeping you away from blogland! Your October photos are so pretty and I am so happy for Rose and Benton that they were able to be with Rose's family for such a special reunion! Family is so important!! You are getting more rain than us, but like you, I am so glad those storms stayed out in the Atlantic!! Sending a hug!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your calendars. I'm glad you've had rain, it'll be good to see some water in Still Waters pond again and the wildlife will love it.
ReplyDeleteYea for the parade of calendars! Everything looks so "Autumn-ey" (delicious!), butI have to admit, that Gothic tea set is plain creepy. Can you imagine sitting down for tea with the Addams family? (lol)
ReplyDeleteThat's so wonderful that Rose was able to reunite with all her siblings and her daddy. I hope they return safely with lots of good stories to share!
I'm glad that you have been getting some rain, and hopefully you will get to enjoy some lovely October weather soon! Sure enjoyed the pictures of Rose's family reunion, that is so special, and I'm so happy they were all able to be together! Beautiful scenes, and the corn looked ready too! I do love all things about October, and I am glad we live in a world with Octobers in it, indeed :) Blessings to you Pamela!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post (again!). All those wonderful colours in nature...somewhere. Here the leaves are just brown and a bit of yellow, due to the lack of rain. Two days ago I folded the bed in the gardenhouse and put it in the special bag. It won't be used anymore, as the nights get too cold. I managed to grow a huge tomato plant... no.. In fact it grew itself..., and I've put it in the gardenhouse. Maybe some tomatos will grow... I don't know. I love eating tomatos, but I think touching the leaves is no fun. I don't like the smell.
ReplyDeleteYesterday the afternoon weather was OK, so I went outside to make the front garden ready for winter as far as I could. Leaving enough places for hedgehogs....
Enjoy your october!
I am sure enjoying all of this fall surrounding you. God is do good to favor you all with some rain. hoping the pond fills up. I love that old tractor with the deepest colors surrounding it. complete beauty in each scene. blessings.
ReplyDeleteWe were in Minnesota the first week of September, before the leaves began to turn, although the temps at the time had taken a dive for the cool. It was refreshing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of northern family! I like the quote from CS Lewis!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are still in a drought and burn ban. We've had field fires in the area over the last few weeks, and I am only watering the flowers. It's the end of garden season, but I am still getting some bell peppers and jalapenos, so I have yet to yank the entire garden (despite drought). Glad you are getting rain. Hard to believe it's October already too.
ReplyDeleteYou are a ray of sunshine. Happy October.
