Good Evening Everyone! I hope this finds you doing well and enjoying special blessings of the week. We've been enjoying this week's cool morning temperatures in the mid 50's, and gorgeous sunny and cooler days. It has actually felt like fall here in north central Florida! Hooray!!
The cup of tea says it well, "Thankful and Blessed".
I am combining two days because I am late on Thursday, and I don't know what tomorrow may bring...so I might as well "kill two birds with one stone". Oh, maybe not a good way to start this post...but then look...there was this "murder of crows" out on Still Waters Pond this afternoon, and I guess that got me off to a more "sinister" beginning. LOL. Sorry about that.
Per Google: A "murder of crows" is the traditional collective noun for a flock of crows, rooted in old folklore and superstitions that associated the scavenging birds with death and battlefields." It looks like these crows are definitely scavenging for something to eat on top of the dried up muck along the shore of Still Waters Pond. The water in the background is still quite covered with algae, and I can only pray that we get some rain this weekend to help dissipate the algae and help the pond get back to being a "fresh water pond" again.
The crows weren't the only ones out there foraging for food along the shore of the "pea soup pond". Here's our resident Red Shouldered Hawk looking for something to eat...

Isn't that goldenrod plant lovely? Standing there all by itself, looking so proud and golden!
And here's that very handsome Hawk up in the tree! Isn't he gorgeous?
Some of you who are Facebook friends may have already seen some of these pictures the other day, but don't go away. I do have some new ones to show you as well. I just didn't want the non-Facebook friends to miss out on anything important!
Yes, sadly, everywhere there is water on the pond, it has been covered in an algae bloom. I looked it up to see if it is toxic, and I don't think this particular algae is toxic. It's just an ordinary algae. Hopefully it will go away when the rains come.
The Muscovy Ducks don't seem to mind swimming and fishing in it...
My little buddy Blackie and I have been enjoying these beautiful cooler days by spending some time walking around the pond and yard, and sitting in the Secret Memorial Garden watching the birds.
This is my little "Open Window" in the garden...
Actually, this is what that is...and my zinnias are enjoying it so much.
The swing needs some work and I'm afraid to sit on it until it is fixed:
But Blackie and I enjoy sitting on the garden bench together.
This is our shady little sanctuary where we can watch the birds and feel the breeze and just pray and give thanks to the Lord for another day of life and love...
I am thrilled that the holly tree is loaded with holly berries. They are ripening up and getting ready for the migration of the birds heading further south for the winter...usually the Robins and Cedar Waxwings come flying through here in November.
Blackie likes to sharpen his claws and claim this planter box as HIS territory!
Then he lays down in the grass and gives me "the look". LOL.
And then when I am heading back inside the house he loves to run and roll in the white sand in our driveway, hoping I will come tickle his tummy...(which I do with my shoe/foot)
And then he
tries to run into the house with me, covered in all that white sand...and well...nope! Not this time, buddy! Go roll in the grass and knock off that sand first! LOL. He is still such a scamp!
And we love him. He's been one of God's special little blessings to us.
Another blessing this week...we were able to go and cast our ballots for the mid term elections...
We are very thankful to have the freedom and right to vote, and I pray that we never lose that privilege. I'm only sorry I wasn't wearing a RED sweater instead of a blue one. Only because I don't have a red sweater...
Please pray for our country...and please go vote to keep our freedoms intact.
After voting we stopped by our local grocery store, and they had some nice fresh apples on sale. (Fresh from somewhere up north, Michigan, I think, since we don't grow apples here in Florida, boo hoo).
Hubby said he would LOVE an apple pie!
And it sounded good to me as well...so here you go:
And yes! It was as good as it looked, maybe even better!
Now here's a fall dinner...actually, our son Benton has been eating a lot of meals with us this week because his sweet wifey Rose is in Minnesota visiting her father and family up there, and so he's been over here for supper most evenings. On this particular night we had Kielbasa and Cabbage and Mashed Potatoes and corn. Now if that isn't a fall dinner, I don't know what is! The only bad part was after that Benton and I had to go to choir practice with a full tummy of some very gassy cabbage! LOL.
Then last night we had meatloaf, scalloped potatoes and zucchini and onions. This plate was actually tonight's leftovers, so it doesn't look as pretty as it did last night. But it was still really good!
Well, folks, I just went out and took this picture of the sunset before it totally slipped down behind the trees. I can see a tiny bit of clear water there on the pond, giving a little bit of a reflection!! Oh, that makes me smile so big!!
Ephesians 1:3
3 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ..."
Amen.
One more thing to be thankful for...last year's mums continue to bloom! It's the little things that make me smile and say, Thank You, Lord, for Your blessings on me! Amen.
Good Night and Sweet Dreams.
I enjoyed my virtual visit to the pond, which I pray will soon have more water in it. The hawk is majestic!
ReplyDeleteI hope those possibly from Michigan apples are good. I just got some here and they are yummy!
We voted too and I also should have been wearing red. :) Praying for this election!
Amen, Amen!! I so enjoyed your post, Pam!! I love seeing Blackie, and I love that there is water in your pond again!! Have the Sandhills been back since your last reporting? Your meals look delicious and it's nice that Benton can enjoy the meals with you while Rose is away. I know she is missed by you all. Sending love and a hug!! I'm enjoying the cooler temps, too!! xo
ReplyDeleteIsn't a goldenrod a weed - I am allergic to it! Hope your pond fills up soon. Blackie is so cute. I love your Polish Kielbasa. Yummy. We are heading to go vote tomorrow. Gee I pray for our country.
ReplyDeleteYour fall meals look so delicious Pamela and I hope you've saved a slice of pie for me. I've been craving apple pie lately. I suppose I should make one soon, lol but I don't feel like doing much when we are still undergoing renovations and things are in a bit of chaos. I'm just taking things slowly though there is always something to do! I love looking at birds searching for their worms and things to eat. The last night shot of the pond is so beautiful and I hope you get more rain soon to fill it all up again.
ReplyDeleteYou always make me smile...love, love, love all the photos and I also love kielbasa and cabbage, smiles. have a great weekend, Pam.
ReplyDeleteBecause I'm going through the radiation treatments, Danny and I voted earlier in the week. No one should ever take our ability to vote for granted, Pamela, I agree! I do hope you get some more rain soon so your pond will start looking like a real pond. The fall food, including the apple pie, looks delicious, too. Have a blessed weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Pamela, I am finally getting time to blog. I enjoyed your pictures. I have never seen a goldenrod plant. I sure hope you get some rain. We had lots of it yesterday. Your food all sounds so wonderful! I am getting hungry now. I hope to post later today and add more pictures from my trip to Israel.
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful you have so much wildlife to enjoy! Love all your blooms still, ours have been frosted out! Apple pie looks delicious, always a treat! So nice Benton can enjoy the meals with you. They all look yummy and comforting! So much to be thankful for indeed!!
ReplyDeleteWhere do I even start? The delicious apple pie, the pride in voting, or that warm looking fire. Each of these things gave me joy this morning. Sam and I voted this week as well, and the lines are growing every day. We are having chilled mornings but by the afternoon, it warms up enough to not need a jacket. Some really nice photos Pamela..love seeing all of nature and flowers.
ReplyDeleteHi Pam what a post! I don't know where to begin there were so many cool things to look at. Love the pics. We have a small to medium sized pond we named "Helen's Pond" after my mother, in the front of our property too. Our neighbor next door has a huge one that we call "Skip's Pond". Almost half an acre big with lily pads and a fountain, it's pretty cool ours is just a simple homey one for some catfish and brim. :) There are no fences so everything is open and you can often see the turtles migrating from one pond to the next. I love our turtles! Last week I heard this loud honking and looked up to see a couple of dozen Canadian geese landing in Skip's pond, it was really breathtaking. Hope you have a lovely day ahead! :)
ReplyDeleteThe western US is finally getting rain and I hope you get a lot more soon too. Pretty photos. Blackie manages the place nicely I see. I found a cute picture for my bathroom that says, Welcome to the bathroom. A cat will be with you shortly. Mine are all gone over the rainbow bridge but, I still love them. Happy Friday.
ReplyDeleteThat apple pie looks delicious! I haven't been on here recently and was a little surprised to see the pond wasn't full. Praying you get some rain soon! Have a great weekend Pamela!
ReplyDeleteI do love those little things that make me smile too.
ReplyDeleteBlackie is such a scamp but I can sure see how he has wiggled his way into your hearts.
I definitely pray that you get more rain and that it takes care of the algae. Those Muscovy ducks are getting to comfortable on your pond.
You make me hungry for a apple pie. Looks delicious.
Love your places where you can go and pray and just enjoy all the the Lord has given you.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sue
Pam, I enjoyed every sing line of your post. WE are such kindred spirits.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there reason for rejoicing when our cozy fireplaces come back to life?
ReplyDeleteYour meal plates look so very appetizing! Gosh, I think it was junior year Home Ec the last time I made an apple pie. My poor Tom has to make do with those that come from Publix' bakery. I love that Benton feels welcome to join you at the table while Rose is away. Will she be returning soon?
Wishing you ALL a most blessed evening.
I hope the algae gets off the pond soon. I really miss clear water when it scums over like that. I adore Blackie. He is such a sweet boy and I love that he stays around and doesn't run off. That apple pie looks so good. I haven't had apple pie in a long time. Here in WI they serve it with a wedge of cheddar cheese.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you and your family. How nice your son can pop in and eat with you! xo Diana
Your lovely secret garden is so peaceful. I can see why you love to spend time down there.
ReplyDeleteDinner at your house looks yummy. Especially the apple pie!
Hello! My goodness your meals look delicious!!!! And the apple pie?? Oh my! Enjoyed visiting with you today, my new friend! Have a cozy weekend.
