It was a lovely morning, so we took a ride down to the Kenwood Recreational Park, a lovely park and boat ramp into the Rodman Resevoir and Lake Ocklawaha area. We try to go there several times throughout the year, to see it in different seasons and to just enjoy the beauty. Today was no exception! Here are some pictures that I took...and I have coupled them with Psalm 1 for today's Scripture reading. I hope you will enjoy the beauty of both the pictures and the Word together...
Welcome to my "Open Window"...a place of hope, encouragement, and adventure as we journey down the road from "Closed Doors" to the new opportunities God places in our pathway. I hope you will take the time to go back and follow the trail of mixed blessings and fears, failures and triumphs from the past and side-trips in the present. Perhaps it will conjure up some of your own special memories, and be an invitation for you to share with others. I look forward to spending this time with you!
What Do You See Outside YOUR Open Window Today?
Remember: "When God closes a door, He always opens a window!" You never know what might be out there waiting for you!

Wednesday Treasures All Around Us
Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
A fitting ending to this passage...
Don't be like the ungodly...instead be like the man (or woman!)
whose "delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night."
Sometimes it is good to get back to the basics, isn't it? In this world we are easily led astray by all the flashy things being offered on the internet or TV or in stores and places all around us. But soon enough we discover that those things do not bring lasting peace or happiness. They might fill a void for a little while, but there is only one way to fill the empty places in our hearts and lives...
"28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.
29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
for I am gentle and lowly in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls."
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Today was a good day to be reminded of these words, and to spend some time alone with the Lord, enjoying His beautiful creation all around us. Now that fall is on the way and the temperatures are hopefully going to begin to cool down a little bit at a time, it is a good time to get back outside and take advantage of all the beauty that He has provided for us to enjoy. I'm so thankful we were able to take this little walk today. It was a soothing balm for my soul.
How about you? What wonders or beauties have you noticed in God's creation around you lately? I hope you will share them on your blog if you can, or tell us about them here. Let's focus on what is lovely and wholesome, and try to stay away from the negative influences around us. That's what I want to do...who will join me?
Thank you for your kind comments on my previous posts. It's always so good to hear from you and also to read your posts to see what's going on in your lives! You are all a part of my special "Wednesday Treasures" (and beyond). Have a lovely week.

So very beautiful! There is nothing like Spanish moss to add special Southern charm. The Psalm is perfect for today.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mari! I'm amazed that everyone noticed the Spanish moss! I am so used to seeing it that I don't even notice it much anymore! But you are right, it does add to the "southern charm".
Deleteare those old cypress trees with the Spanish moss? beautiful. love the Psalms to go with it! What I have seen in God's beauty the last few days is the most amazing clouds. I have a post up!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Gina! The trees with the Spanish moss are live oak trees. It's funny that almost everyone commented on the Spanish moss, and I didn't even notice it until you all mentioned it! I guess because I live with it here it doesn't stand out to me like it would to those who are not accustomed to seeing it! It really does make a pretty "picture", but you sure don't want to get tangled up in it and get red bug bites! LOL. I will go check out your post. Hope you are doing well! It's good to hear from you again.
DeleteThe scenic pictures are a balm to the soul, indeed.!Fall is my favorite time of year to hike. Although still too hot, 100 today I know the cooler temperatures are coming in their own time. The only Spanish moss I’ve ever seen are in bags at the craft store. It does not grow in California. It really is nice how it embraces the tree and hangs like it does.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debby. The Spanish moss is beautiful, but if you get tangled up in it you will get "red bug" bites, and that is not pleasant. They are very tiny and you can't see them, but believe me, if you play in the spanish moss like I did as a kid, you will find out about them right away! LOL. I hope your knee/leg is feeling better! Been praying for you.
DeleteYour photos are so beautiful, Pam. Thanks for sharing them and the scriptures that highlight them so well. Hints of Fall are always so welcome!! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri. So glad you are back home safe and sound. Fall comes slowly here to our parts of the country, so we embrace whatever beauties we can find! Now we just need some cooler weather to go along with it!!
DeletePairing your beautiful photos with the verses in this Psalm brought both calm and hope to my heart, Pamela. God made His creation to suit us and may we never cease to praise Him for all His good gifts to His children. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. I love how God opens our eyes to see these things and to hear His voice speaking through His Word to our hearts. That's how I felt while looking at these trees and their beauty. We are blessed to be His children! Amen?
DeletePam, I liked the verse with the photos also. It is so pretty by you. Love the Spanish Moss hanging down from the trees. God is just amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed walking with me ! Yes, our God is an awesome God! His creation is a delight to behold, when we just open our eyes to see! I love how almost everyone commented on the Spanish Moss, and I wasn't even noticing it because I've become so accustomed to it! It is a thing of beauty!
DeleteYou shared such beautiful photos with us today Pam. I also loved the verses you shared with us. The world is so hectic. These peaceful photos are perfect to help us slow down and remember the beauty that the Lord created for us.
ReplyDeleteWe have one more night in our camper tonight. We had friends from church come out and visit us yesterday and another couple this evening. I served them all vanilla ice cream, fresh strawberries, chocolate syrup and whipped cream. They all seemed to enjoy it. God has indeed blessed us this week. It's rained most of the time we've been here and I've organized and puttered about putting non-slip shelf liner in the drawers and shelfs while listening to the raindrops on the roof. This is my happy place.
Take care my dear friend and thank you for your prayers for Dennis. His biopsy is scheduled for Sept. 23.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Thank you, Betsy. Sounds like you are enjoying your new camper a lot! What a blessing! And those ice cream sundaes sure sound good! So nice that friends could join you! I will continue to keep Dennis in my prayers. God is in control!! (((HUGS)))
DeleteGorgeous captures, Pamela!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. I am so glad you enjoyed them! It was a lovely day to be out in God's amazing creation.
DeleteI loved this walk! You got some pretty pictures ESPECIALLY the flowers! Look at those big old trees--- so twisty and with history of days past. Are those water lilies or what are those one flowers called-- I forget? Oh, I see cattails too. Those are neat. Glad hubby is feeling up to walks again-- even short ones-- fresh air and sun are good. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI think those flowers are a kind of water hyacinth. I'd have to look it up to be sure. Yes, the old oaks are amazing, aren't they? I know you love them. And yes, we are trying to get out and walk more again now that the weather is starting to cool down a teeny bit...if we can go early enough in the morning. Yesterday was beautiful. Thank you for popping in here for a visit. Sending you (((HUGS))) today.
DeleteSending you many hugs.

ReplyDeletea truly beautiful post Pamela...with each word and each photo, I found myself singing unto the Lord. I really enjoyed this. It is so delightful to wake up and to read a post that is so full of love and beauty..makes my day move forward with love and gladness. The Lord is good and His glory shines all around us each day. It's all in how our hearts are open enough to see the beauty. Love those old oak trees with the moss hanging from the limbs. Our days have been a bit cooler and so very enjoyable. Wishing the same for you all...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful thoughts and nicely accented with these photos! I crave the color and sounds of nature in a copse of trees!
ReplyDeleteOh wow. I'm so glad you and John took this walk and wanted to share with us. Paired with verse, my heart is full!
